Came here on a weekday and they just opened for business so not very busy yet so service was good except for when you have someone in front of you who lack self-awareness by taking a long time to figure out what they want to order and asking endless questions as if making a life and death decision! Cute little coffee shop in cozy Mt Shasta. Surrounded by little restaurants and snow. Sitting under the boutique hotel Summit Lofts, this shop is easily accessible. Lots of space, a fire place and one bathroom. The menu is simple, but varietal. At the time we went, they probably could have used another person making coffees because we were done with our cinnamon sticky bun by the time our name was called. Food, initial service, and ambience are all good. It was the attitude of the shift manager who decided to hold a what appeared as an impromptu 1 on 1 with her employee on the side walk right in front of the main entrance like she was a bouncer at the coffee shop is the problem. Guys got a mountain bike blocking the exit, just thrown the bike down right in the exit, as he and her are discussing his schedule. Problem being ... my hands are full of my purchases and I'm assumingely supposed to step over or attempt to somehow go around. I stopped and waited-didn't say a word...Dude realizes and apologized for blocking the MAIN DOORWAY IN AND OUT. Manager type tells me I'm wrong and a rude. No. I'm a well paying customer who just left your staff a 20 tip and spent another 40 on breakfast items. Your one lack of professionalism is astounding. Two your ignorance is even more so. And three the small town mentality of your "hipster delusion" is even more wrong. I just feel sad for you. Customers beware! Hope the cashier had a good birthday! read more

Wow! We just happened on this gem! They should be called bakery and coffee place. The coffee was excellent, I mean not bitter. No one wants bitter coffee. You can see the bakers cooking which you know it's fresh! The staff was caring and even walked our food out to the outside tables. Being that Theory Coffee is in a spec of a town, I must say, they do great business thanks to their quality. Yan and I shared this turnover sausage pizza thing. Perfect! I had their mango iced tea and we shared a hot latte. The restaurant is wide and open and you have places to relax. If I lived here I'd come here most mornings. The ambiance is laid back. I think people come here for the atmosphere; a spacious, and quiet place to sit and have what many say is great coffee (I wouldn't know as I'm not a coffee drinker). The chai latte was a liquid concentrate & very sweet with not much spice albeit apparently a masala spice chai. The veggie quiche I had was ok. Gluten free crust. They apparently have good pastries & bread but didn't try them so can't comment on how they are. What was impressive was the spaciousness and quiet atmosphere, as well as the friendly, and fantabulous service; by both Brandon & Maddi who are there regularly. They made the experience special. All in all it doesn't have the warm charm of some cafes but the large windows let in a lot of light. It's not the most stunning view being on the corner of Mount Shasta Blvd., bt most people here are reading a book or on their laptop or devises, or talking abc it provides a great no-pressure space for that! read more

Cozy fireplace. Festive decor for the Holiday season! Still in process with the tables not having arrived yet, but clean and beautiful inside. Their coffee is prepared with care and knowledge and isn't burnt! What a beautiful place to work on a cold day! I ate the bacon quiche. It has a potato crust and is beautifully cooked and still creamy. My husband loved their breakfast sandwich with the mustard sauce! I've visited this place 3 times and 2 out of the 3 times I've been disappointed in the quality of service, customer service, the food, and even some of the customers. Let me explain.... the first day some strange guy probably on drugs got in my face said some disrespectful things to me because my dog sensed he was a low frequency person and did not want to engage. The 2nd time was fine, except this time I ordered a baked item and instead of them offering to heat it up, i was given a hard, cold pastry. Today, the young man greeted me with an attitude like i was wasting his time. Very annoyed to be working with people clearly. When i ordered, he handed me a rock hard, cold pastry and then proceeded to serve over 7 other people , forgetting about my coffee and never even apologized for it. He played around the back , laughing and being loud and ridiculous. That being said, it's a nice place, modern, comfortable, has a fireplace, plenty of seating, large windows. The staff was friendly and the sausage foldover that I tried was good. If you're the laptop at the coffee shop type of person this place is for you. If you just want to get a large cup of coffee and a muffin or a bagel there are better places. read more

I've been here a few times and I have to give multiple stars for the kouign amanns which are *excellent* and not commonly seen in cafes. The staff (for the first year or two at least) was always pleasant. I don't recognize many of the current staff so I'm not sure if it's a seasonal shift or a turnover. A few reasons for lost stars though: (1) they often run out of baked goods somewhat early and on other days (like when I last visited this summer) the flies chilling out on the pastries were rather off putting. (2) zero noise absorption in the ceiling or walls so it gets pretty noisy even when not super crowded. I'm not sure why they haven't invested in different ceiling tiles or other ways to mitigate this -- the location is huge and they often are decently full. (3) only an issue in the past year or so: for some reason this cafe now seems super resistant to offering drinks in mugs even though there are numerous ones stacked up and ready on the espresso machine. Knowing from prior visits that they default to to-go cups, I specifically requested if I could have a mug and the person taking my order said that was no problem. When I went to get my drink, the barista had made it in a to-go cup. I let her know I ordered it in a mug (I honestly would have been fine if she'd just swirled some hot water in one of the MANY clean mugs sitting right in front of her and chucked the drink into it), but instead she told me that they are only doing to-go cups. Which is ridiculous if the person who took my order said a mug would be fine. It is a completely different experience sipping from a ceramic cup versus a to-go cup and if I'm paying $7 (plus a tip), I would expect the more pleasant option, especially as I specified that it was available before ordering. And would have ordered something else if her answer had been no, so after paying and waiting that long, it was pretty frustrating. I do like the fireplace, the seasonal variety of available drinks, and the option of a reasonably large sit down cafe right here in town. They could and should do a lot better on basic customer service though so 2 stars it is, and I haven't been back since then. Might I go again? Potentially, simply because it is so conveniently located, but at this point I prefer to make my own coffee and pastries (fingers crossed I will one day master the kouign amann!) or visit a better cafe in nearby Yreka or McCloud. read more

Coffee shop has an inviting aesthetic you might find in other California towns such as Verve in Santa Cruz, and Scout in San Luis Obispo. Clean, minimal, with plenty of seating and natural decor. The black coffee was fantastic, and stood out from the hotel drip coffee I enjoyed during my visit. Still, the coffee was dollar less than similar coffee shops elsewhere. read more

I love good neighborhood coffee shops. This one recently came to town so my partner and I dropped in hopefully to give it a try. The kids behind the counter seemed nice but were pretty slow: there wasn't anyone else there when we ordered, and it took a long time to get our food. The Ambiance was..well...*sterile*. I mean, it's clean, don't get me wrong, but it isn't warm and welcoming. There's a cement floor, and it's cold feeling, with no art and it feels like a doctor's office. And my biggest gripe: there isn't really any place to eat the things they offer. We tried a sausage foldover, two hot drinks, and some dessert pastry that I can't even remember now, unfortunately. It was that unmemorable, I guess. We had two hot drinks: a latte and a mocha. The coffee was on the bitter side, but the real problem was where do we put everything? I don't understand how you can tout being a community space but not have anywhere for visitors to eat and drink the things there purchase there? There were no tables for us to sit at. We sat down on one of the bench seating things, next to fireplace that wasn't lit (this is in December), and had to put our drinks on the bench seats. And set our plates there, as well. It was awkward? Like, it's just weird to have a coffee shop with no real tables, but all this bench seating. Where are you supposed to set your stuff? The sausage foldover felt like something you'd get at a school cafeteria. The coffee was lackluster. And it was ALL expensive. Just, no. But, I *do* have solution. If you want to stay in Mount Shasta to have your custom coffee, visit "The Gallery", across the street and down a ways: they are under new management and their pastries and coffee are actually good. But better yet, let me clue you in to a REAL gem of a neighborhood coffee shop, a few miles up the road in McCloud: it's called Spill the Beans Coffee, and it's small and welcoming and homey, with a fireplace that stays on and Uh-MAZE-ing homemade pastries and breakfast burritos and lattes. read more

Pros: Monkey bread was delicious, so was the brioche sandwich. My colleague and I stopped in before heading out for fieldwork and the service was quick which we appreciated. The person who took our order was really kind, shorter with glasses, didn't catch their name. Cons: I got pecan pie latte, I mostly just taste nutmeg and not really any of the espresso or the pecan pie flavor that was advertised. My colleague got the pumpkin spice latte and also doesn't take much pumpkin. But the BIGGEST RED FLAG: Maddie (sp?) made our coffees and my colleague witnessed her wipe her nose with the front of her hand and then proceed to make our first coffee, and I separately witnessed her wipe her nose with her bare hand before making my coffee. She then used those same hands to zest the nutmeg onto our coffees. This is food safety 101, please wash your hands anytime you touch your face, let alone wipe snot from your nose. Overall probably would return for the treats but probably not the coffee. read more

Even though most of the staff is wonderful there is a girl named Sasha that I have had help me several times and she is so rude and not customer service oriented one bit. I can't believe the owners have this person at the front of the house interacting with customers. She is beyond rude.
