I found theory online and chose to go there as I too am a stylist - and they work looked really solid. I like the Aveda brand ethics so I made an appointment with Ivy the place was cute and lots of parking, safe and easy to access! it was clean and cool and wasn't blaring music. Super relaxing vibe. Ivy gave me a full consultation and a solid price before we did anything. I appreciated that !!! she literally gave me exactly what I wanted. She was funny and nice and focused on the health of my hair. Made no promises on what we could achieve and totally delivered !! I went to Theory today as a walk in, unsure of exactly what I wanted but needing a cut. Enter Brittany. She was incredibly attentive and listened to my ideas without being condescending (I've had that a time or two with stylists). She made a few suggestions and worked with me to come up with the perfect cut. I won't be going anywhere else from here on out. She did an amazing job and I absolutely love my new style. Great experience, Ivy talked me through a style I was thinking of and she had great suggestions.

I have been going to this hair salon for a while, and they send you a text to confirm you're going, but then they send you multiple texts all the time to re-confirm, even at 6am in the morning. I asked them multiple times to stop confirming after they just confirmed the previous day, but they keep texting to confirm all the time. I asked them to "PLEASE STOP TEXTING ME after I just confirmed yesterday!" and they then, after 18 months of business cancelled all of my appointments, including the one that day, just because I asked them for the 50th time to stop texting me all the time to confirm. If I confirm the day before, then I don't need to confirm again 2 hours before the appointment. This is ridiculous. read more

I went in needing layers for my gray, and a sort of "V" cut for the back so more of the brunette underneath would show. Teresita was so thorough and professional as she explained my gray layers wouldn't blend well with a V shape only in the back, so she blended them all perfectly. Notice the back is longer then shorter around the side because I didn't want it shaved or stacked near my hairline, which she informed me is a low one. Yesterday was my first time getting my hair colored here and it was a great experience! Stephanie helped me with articulating exactly what I wanted and asked questions throughout to make sure it was always what I was wanting! I came in with greasy, brown hair that had been highlighted a year ago but was growing out. Yesterday I got partial highlights and it blends soooooo well with the color that I already have! Stephanie is so good at mixing and applying color. She took her time and listened to me. Not to mention, she's fun and easy to chat with! Super sweet. She remembered details that I had told her my previous haircut visit several months prior, which I thought was awesome! I was lucky to have stumbled back upon the salon! I had an appointment with my typical-not this- salon on a Friday but unfortunately the lady had to cancel. I did not have a back up stylist, all the other ones I had tried at that salon (I.e., not this one) I don't really care for. I did a little research on other Aveda based salons, in the north Austin area. I called a few and they all required a consultation then schedule a second appointment (I was on a time crunch because I needed my hair done for the next week). I then called Theory and asked if they had anyone available for a partial balayage (I understand, not an easy process for stylists)... they did! I was super nervous because I'm kind of picky but decided to give it a shot since I needed it done! The lady, Brittney, asked me for picture prior so she could estimate the time it would take to do my hair. When I arrived at Theory she was so nice and made me feel at ease about the whole process. She didn't question herself and was really confident in being able to make my hair look like the picture. She did not ask me a million questions, as if I know what the process is to make my hair look like the picture. I was so relieved, since I know nothing about how to get my hair to look like the picture I showed her. She was so knowledgeable in color! She did not push products on me upon leaving. First time customer of Theory salon, and dirt time going to an aveda salon. I will definitely be a repeat customer. After my visit here I'm really baffled as to why they had some poor reviews on here and am guessing those people may just be an all around generally angry customer. Came in today and booked with Cecilia for my first ever pixie cut. My hair was down to my but before she cut it. Cecilia was absolutely WONDEFFUL. Being this was my first dramatic hair cut she talked me through the cut, let me know everything she was doing and why she was doing it and made sure I was comfortable during the entire process. The cut and style was perfect. I also really loved the pre cut massage. I have a 9 month old baby so it was well needed lol. The salon was clean and beautifully decorated. Different staff checked on me often during my wait to ask if I needed anything to drink. I was all around well pleased with the entire service. Thanks Cecilia and Theory staff! read more

Update: Cecelia called me the next day and apologized for not speaking to me at the salon. I appreciate her having the compassion to do that for me. It's now day three and I'm just still in shock about my hair. I can't wear it half up anymore because one side of my hair is much lighter than the other half :( I washed my hair for the first time and the damage is just extremely bad. My curls have turned into waves now and really frizzy looking. I can't wear my hair naturally curly anymore now. I'm so heartbroken :( Original review: I came in for a light brown balayage and specifically asked for no blonde. I informed Mariah that my anniversary was this weekend and my wedding was coming up in a couple months so I wanted my hair to look more natural. I also showed her photos of the hair color I wanted. When Mariah was done with my hair it looked like a super ashy blonde with strands of white in it. Complete opposite of what I asked for! The worst part was my hair was very damaged. Mariah left without a word, she didn't even ask me if I liked the color. Another hairstylist named Amanda began cutting my hair.. Amanda noticed the damage on my hair and said I'd have to use a lot of care products on my hair since I went so light. I informed her that I specifically asked not to go blonde and showed her photos of the color I originally requested. She agreed that the color was done incorrectly and toned it for me. The color turned out very odd like a dark color and my hair is very damaged now. I bursted into tears while they were styling my hair because it looked so bad. They kept saying that the color looked more like the photo I showed them when it looked nothing like it. They had me in that salon from 1pm-8pm. The whole time the owner was there and never approached me! They kept saying it's just color but didn't seem to care about the damage. I wanted to go back to red after the wedding too but now I can't since my hair is so damaged. I'm still in emotional distress right now and just heartbroken that my hair is damaged and will not look like I visioned it for my wedding. I was charged $200 for their services at the end. I told them before I left that I wasn't even upset about the money. I just wish the owner would have at least talked to me or someone would have made me feel better. Or they could have acknowledged how hurt I was! I was in tears again when I left and felt like nobody cared. I could go on and on. Please do not go here. read more

Steph did my hair for my wedding day and she did a great job. I needed a trim for my split ends and for my bangs to be styled. She did a great job. I suffer from postpartum hair loss so I needed a major confidence boost which she was able to provide. I was instantly greeted as I walked in. All the ladies seemed to be nice and professional. I was offered a beverage of my liking. The store was very clean and well kept which I appreciate very much. Stephanie made me feel very comfortable and she was professional. I wouldn't recommend this salon! I got my hair cut finally for the first time since COVID-19 hit the U.S. and I was very disappointed in the result! I asked for master stylist assuming her work would b better BUT all she did was cut length off. I felt like she was n a rush to get me out of her chair & had no interest in what I wanted from the service. I Arrived at the salon with my hair curled at the ends and left with a really messy blowout that she gave me. Her work was very sloppy! I would never recommend this place to anyone! I brought my daughter and her friend in last week to make appointment and was quoted 148$ for half head bleaching and her friend was quoted 90$ for highlights. Today was there appointment and they go in and are charged double what they were quoted my daughters is over 300$ and her friend 225$ waste of time going in ahead of time but they sure took advantage of two 16 year old girls without a parent being there! Times are already difficult and I would of gotten others quotes 148$ seemed fair but now it's 300$ and that's way to much for what services were provided! Theory was the only salon I found online that mentioned short hair specifically and I'm very glad I found them. I enjoyed meeting Lucy who did a great job of reviewing what I wanted (very short Pixie) and making adjustments along the way. Unfortunately, I had someone new color my hair the last time I came in, and the lack of skill in applying the color and toner resulted in breakage. I now have several small chunks of hair missing from my head. I gave 2 stars instead of 1 because I really do appreciate the service I received in the past, this particular stylist just was not up to par. I have been to Theory Hair Salon 1 time for a haircut and overall I had a good experience. I really wish I could rate this how I saw it as a 3.5 star business/experience, but I've decided on 3 stars because the experience and environment left a lot to be desired. Pros: 1) I like my hairstyle and have received some compliments on it. 2) Convenient location close to I-35 & an H-E-B for those of us that are busy 3) This salon does accept walk ins (if they have a stylist available) 4) Overall clean environment and orderly if not a bit on the utilitarian side 5) Aveda products = higher quality 5) Diversity among the employees Cons: 1) The salon is on the small side and for the prices of services and Aveda affiliation I would have expected a "nicer" ie spa-like setting. A little bit of change of decor, paint, lighting, etc go a long way! It looks like a Supercuts with better fixtures... 2) The chairs are staggered at an angle but the sound carries so much. Like every word from the front desk or the stylist/client near you is pretty audible. As a result they turn up the music (or it seamed that way) - and it wasn't anything relaxing playing 3) The staff weren't particularly friendly, engaging, or "chatty". Even small talk or just a simple smile or compliment. To me a stylist should be a natural people person and be able to have a generic friendly conversation with any client UNLESS the client doesn't want to chit chat. It was like a awkward first date! Being friendly puts people at ease - especially when you are a new client!! Unfortunately my stylist either didn't notice or didn't care. 4) The iron clad cancellation, no show, and late arrival policy you have to sign. This wasn't an issue for me but I think it's excessive. To be clear: you better not be late or you cancel or you'll be paying for some or all of your service. *No exceptions*. I wonder if that rule applies to the salon staff and in regards to MY TIME? If my appointment time starts more than 15 minutes late or my stylist needed to reschedule (hello life) would I receive a free service? This policy should be revised because it is very much a one way deal on their end. A better idea for the owners and management at Theory Hair Salon: deal with the PROBLEM CLIENTS - you know the ones - and leave the rest of us out of it. My time is just as valuable - if not more - than yours. And remember- a smile and a kind greeting go along way! Even if it's not "your client" or you are done for the day. Be nice and engaged in creating a wonderful experience for each person and making them feel special. Basically try harder to "turn it on". You're at work and you work with people. This is the South. Smile at a person that walks by you or makes eye contact with you. Dare even to say "HELLO"! Trust me - you'll have a better day when you do. read more

Within minutes, I was receiving a scalp massage with peppermint oil followed by a shampoo and deep conditioning that were so relaxing, I nodded off a couple of times. I showed the hairstylist the exact color that I wanted and asked several times if she would be able to do it(red/maroon) She kept seeking out help from her manager during the whole color process.. I was not happy with the color nor cut, she ended up cutting more than I requested. The whole time she kept trying to sell me their hair products and kept saying how thick my hair is.(they charge more depending on hair thickness) Also, near the end she asked if I wanted to have my hair flat iron. I said no, but she insisted & I ended up getting charged for it and wasn't even notified prior. I feel like she should've been upfront about the charge. Overall horrible experiance, paid $200+ and was very dissatisfied. They ended up gifting me a leave in conditioner to make up for the color.. but not worth it. PS: Hair color didn't last more that a week. Waste of money. - I know reds last less than any other color but I've always had this color done & it's always lasted me at least 1-2 months. read more

I went to theory hair salon because Tuesdays and Thursdays it's $25 you can get your hair blowdried and washed! And then I found a great stylist her name is Stephanie she is my very kind works very well and you have great person. I was going to maybe once a week to have a wash my hair so she would wash it blow dry and then flat iron it. My hair is very short now so it only takes a couple pieces to flat iron. Well I was paying her $35 and a pretty good tip. Last time I went in I washed my hair was $35 she blowdried it and then when she said well if I iron it it's gonna have to be an additional $30. I was like you're kidding me she said no they saw me flat iron and now there's a fee so instead of 35 it was 65 for very short hair. Well as you can see I no longer go to the salon and I did find a salon called the Blow bar they charge $40 to give you champagne Mimosa's whatever you want to drink they will wash your hair blow dry and flat iron and put really good product in it and no more than $40 can't beat the price the place is absolutely stunning the people are great the only thing I wish is that Stephanie was working over there. And this is why I don't wanna go that is Theory hair salon. They should look at customers or clients because I was coming in every week pretty much and they do not take Care Of you so I highly do not recommend them anymore. And this is how short my hair is and they want an extra $30 to put a couple pieces of ladder in it to make it $65 definitely not worth the time! Go to Blo bar they're awesome and they will take care of you as a client. The only thing will be sad is that Stephanie won't be doing my hair anymore and I wish her the best a lot but I feel she probably will lose her clients because of the high prices at their hair salon! read more

Today I called this salon for the first time asking for a same day appointment, expecting no availability, but I was delighted that I was able to get in with Ivy within just a couple of hours. I have a textured, A line bob cut that can be tricky to find the right stylist for, I've found, so it's always scary giving someone new a try! I am so grateful and delighted that I chose Ivy (there were 2 options and I just went with my gut for Ivy). She listened to everything I told her and she was able to study my previous stylist's cutting methods to keep my style going (which is exactly what I wanted!!). I felt like I was in really good hands with her from start to finish.
