Atmosphere was stunning. Food was good, but service was not great at all. I had to track down my waitress multiple times, I think the other waitress helped me more than my own waitress did. I ordered a "to-go" for my husband - Gyro with sides and dessert. When I got home and gave him the gyro, there was no cucumber sauce. I live an hour away, so I couldn't just pop back to grab what they missed. He was very disappointed since that is the best part of the gyro. read more

We had our daughter's christening luncheon at Theo's and were so impressed with the service, the prices, and the quality of the food! We needed to make last minute arrangements for a party of about 25 people on a Sunday afternoon. Flo was extremely helpful by arranging a private room for us with a limited menu (10 item of our choosing), rather than having a buffet. They allowed us to bring a sheet cake and even provided the plates, silverware, and the cleanup. The servers were quick, courteous and executed the luncheon without a hitch. The food came out piping hot and SO delicious (I had the Theo's Trio- omg so good!!). Everyone in our party was extremely impressed. We can't wait to go back again!! :) read more

Theo's Metro is an interesting restaurant. As another user reported, it is in a building that used to be a popcorn factor which adds to the cool factor. I have been here twice for dinner and have enjoyed the food both times. Authentic Greek is difficult to find in the Northeast PA area, so that being said, it is the best Greek around. The food is always fresh and portions are large. This review is based on my latest visit for dinner. To start, I ordered the hummus with pita chips. The hummus was fresh and homemade as were the pita chips. Flavor was good in the hummus but the fresh pita really helped to bring it up a notch. They also have an appetizer that consists of three dips including the hummus, so if you're new to Greek cuisine, its worth trying the sampler to see what you like and what you don't like. For my entree, I ordered the gyro platter with lamb souvlaki. I was disappointed to see that it was simply standard gyro veggies (lettuce, tomato and onion) on a fresh pita with lamb cubes instead of gyro meat. I had expected some different grilled veggies. The lamb was fantastic and cooked to order (I ordered medium). The side I chose was lemon potatoes. These were good, but let me down a little with their dry, crumbly texture. It seemed like they were prepared at least a day in advance and simply reheated. Flavor was just 'ok' and I would not choose them again. Portion was good and I left the restaurant feeling full. I will likely return to Theo's when I am craving Greek again, but I would not recommend it to someone simply visiting the area. read more

We love Theo's. It is our favorite restaurant. Our first visit was wonderful. Service was wonderful. The atmosphere is perfect. The drinks are on point. They always have excellent specials. We had the lamb shank with pasta it was so tender it melted in my mouth. My Husband had the Surf & Turf it was cooked to perfection. We have taken my In-laws they enjoyed as well. Theo's is a jumble of a place. The building used to be a popcorn factory -- seriously -- and they left some old machinery there to prove it. They clearly used each part of the factory in a unique way. One small, narrow room now has a waterfall and a mini-golf course set up. Random little Greek figurines pepper the place, with the overall effect of assuming the owner loves yard sales. But on to the food. I went there for lunch, and had an appetizer of tzatziki dip with pita, and an entree of a chicken pita sandwich. The pita bread was just beyond delicious -- warm, soft, perfect -- and the french fries that came with my sandwich were great, too. Highly recommended for lunch or a casual dinner. When I went there for lunch, there were so many tables and so few people sitting there. The person who took me there told me she wondered how Theo's stayed in business, because every time she went there it was practically empty. If that's the case, what a shame -- I'd hate to lose such a quirky, yummy place. read more

My sister and I came here on a Saturday afternoon. We had the beef gyros. Sister loved the lemon potatoes. I enjoyed the lemon egg chicken orzo soup. We started our meal with calamari, and the portion was huge, enough to take plenty home. We ate so much that there was no room for baklava, so I purchased some to go. Atmosphere is great, family friendly, and is in an old popcorn factory so there is old equipment for nostalgia's sake. Christina catered to our every need, being professional and personable. Wow. I've been to so many Greek places in south FL and NYC area and nothing's compared to this place. I will have to say I wasn't in love with the Tadzhiki but I had the gyro platter and my date and the lamb chops and both were amazing. I also had the lemon chicken and orzo soup it was the best. The place itself is pretty cool with the decor. I think I may make the drive just to come back here (just kidding because it's like more than 2 hours from NYC and there's nothing to do here). Theo's is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is always great, and I've never had a problem there. I don't eat Greek food very much, but there's still plenty for me to choose from. Since I'm not into the Greek food, I can't really comment on how authentic it is. I've had their Filet Mignon, Honey-Glazed Salmon, and Grilled Chicken, all of which were delicious. They serve warm rolls which are among the best rolls I've ever had. They always like to taunt our party of two by giving us three rolls so we have to fight over the last one! Although they will offer more when they're all gone. Last time I went I got the fried brownie bites with ice cream for dessert... they are to die for! Save room for dessert! read more

Okay. I am Greek, my family comes from near the village the owners say they are from, and this was the worst excuse for Greek food. EVER. I always order the same food when I go to unknown Greek places so that I can make honest reviews. One: Saganaki is not flamed using Bacardi. Our waiter and the 2 waitresses I witnessed doing the Saganaki flaming did not even BOTHER to say Opa. Then when ordering the Avgolemeno soup, the waiter was so confused, the soup was possibly the only edible part of this meal. I then ordered Pastitcho which is made with a VERY specific macaroni, like the box for every brand that makes it now says it on the box. Here? Hey I don't know if this is 'authentic' Greek or not. Theo's is one of my favorite places. Nothing is overly salted or greasy. Service is great. The place is comfortable. The beer is ice cold. Not surprised by the mixed reviews, this place is hit or miss. I've had great dining experiences here and very mediocre ones. I keep going back because I'm sentimental, enjoy the atmosphere, and would be sad if Theo's went out of business, yet I sometimes wonder how they survive as a restaurant. It's two days later and the flavors are still dancing in my mouth. My wife and I tend to go here every few months. Every time we begin to eat, we ask ourself "Why don't we eat here once a week?" Theo's can be a little hard to find if you've never been here before, but it's well worth the journey. Nestled in a neighborhood, your GPS will tell you that you have arrived at your location. You will think, "Dang this is a SMALL parking lot." Don't fret that is only a small lot for the bar area. Please take a turn down the small alley next to the building for a much larger parking lot behind the building. Now walk in, go ahead walk through that old freight elevator. You hear running water? Yup, that's a bit of a waterfall in there. Pull up a table and notice some of them seem to be repurposed doors. I highly enjoy repurposed objects. My wife and I always seem to get the same table which is fine with us. It's a good table. Go ahead and order yourself a drink, they have a full bar. If you fallow my reviews, you will know I often judge a place on their beer selection. Well for Theo's being a great greek restaurant and not a beer bar, they have a pretty good selection to choose from. We will now move on. Trailing behind your drinks you will get some olive oil some bread. YES! I needed a small snack. After some good conversation (and me stealing my wife's phone so she would look at me and not Instagram everything) the glorious soup came out. Here is where I would normally insert some flowery description of how good it was. Mentioning the vibrant yellow color and the way it melted in my mouth..... Wait....ummm.. Enter the main dish. Mind blown! I can honestly say that everything was amazing here. And neither my wife or I have ever had anything bad on any visit. Now for the close, the dreaded bill! For all our food and spirits, the bill was very reasonable. For service. Our waitresses have always been great! Super attentive to their tables, able to answer any questions about the food or drink. If you are looking for something different from the norm, defiantly put on your stretchy paints and head to Theo's Metro. The BEST place in NEPA! Seriously it's underrated and needs to be discovered even by the locals (I'm from Philly). The feta cheese is the best I've ever tasted. So good I take it go in a separate container... their dip combo (hummus, tazaki, eggplant dip) is a must try for an appetizer! I'm a fan of their Greek salad and the vegetable mousakka. Also the lemon potatoes are a must have! Alcoholic beverages are unique and very good. It's also vegetarian friendly. Caution: You may walk through the bar and it's fan and smoky. Not the the dining area. If you get lost just ask the bartender! If there isn't street parking go down academy (a small street) for rear parking - also an entrance there. read more

Delicious authentic Greek food. Eclectic building that was originally a pop corn factory. Hand painted tables and beautiful Greek decor. We chose three appetizers dolmades, spinach pie and the fried cheese. All were amazing. First time having this cheese appetizer that had lemon squeezed on it. Delicious! We then had chicken kebobs and lamb chops. Both were delicious. Of course Baklava for desert. The service was excellent. We will definitely be back! read more

This is one of the few restaurants open on a Sunday night. I really do like the unique qualities in the decor of the restaurant. I've been here on 3 different occasions over the past 2 years. The first 2 times, the service was terrible (my family said "Never again!") but the food was decent. The last time, the server was friendly and the service was good (it was late at night and we were the only customers) but the food was not good. I ordered a fish and it was tasteless. (I added salt and wished I'd brought some of my spices from home with me.) It tasted as if it was microwaved. Theo's has the most interesting atmosphere in the area. It's an old popcorn ball factory turned into a restaurant. It has a inside water fall and even a mini-golf course. We have used them in the past a lot for events. They have large spaces perfect for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, etc. The only problem is it might be too large for the kitchen. This review refers to a meal in June 2014; I completed and posted the review August 2014. Very disappointed! Because of the good food, casual atmosphere, and the fact that it's a locally-owned establishment, this had quickly become our favorite restaurant in NEPA for lunch or dinner, just the two of us, with the kids, and when we had out-of-town visitors. The service was always a little problematic (I see one reviewer describes it as "meh" -- that's a good description of a typical day) -- they always seemed understaffed and to have been caught by surprise when there were customers. Sadly, tonight was the straw that broke the camel's back for us. The small restaurant was about half full in the late afternoon, and we probably should have left when it took the one waitress working twenty minutes to get to our table, at which time we had to insist that she take our order for entrees along with the appetizer order (the hostess had brought our drinks). Fifteen minutes after taking our order, the waitress came back to the table to tell us that there was no hummus (at the beginning of the night in a Greek restaurant? oops!) and ask whether we'd like something else as an appetizer. "No, just cancel that," we said, at that point, believing that our food would be coming out shortly. Instead, twenty minutes later, she came back to the table and said "the Greek guy came in and made the hummus" (!), and plunked the appetizer in front of us (not asking if we still wanted it or offering to comp it, despite the wait and the fact that we'd cancelled the order). As we waited, people at the tables around us couldn't get their checks, or were just leaving money on the table and walking out because they couldn't get anyone to take their money. It took one young couple next to us maybe 20 minutes to get their check paid. They eventually got the hostess to take the folder with payment, but when she brought it back, they realized that they'd just broken the bill(s) in the folder, but not taken actual payment. After some time, they were able to get the hostess back to the table and explain the situation to her. From time to time, the hostess, visibly upset at how badly things were going throughout the restaurant, would come over to our table to see if she could refresh our drinks or bread. Again *some time later* ... a man came out of the kitchen and delivered our food (I was thinking maybe a manager or family member who'd come in to help pull things together), I asked sympathetically (but also trying to make the point that it was clear to the customers that things were going very wrong), whether they were as short staffed in the kitchen as they were out front. He said that they were, but made no apology and didn't seem to register that I was making a complaint. It had to have been close to two hours from the time we sat down until the time our food arrived. At that point, we were all at the end of our patience and had lost our appetite; before the food even came, we knew that we'd have to ask to have it wrapped. When we did so, there was no acknowledgment that there was any kind of problem; the waitress just said, "Sure," and sent some boxes to the table. If this evening had been an isolated event, and the waitress and manager recognized that the situation was unacceptable and were apologetic, we may have chalked it up to the restaurant's having had "one bad night," but the fact of the matter is, this short-staffing seems a matter of policy. This restaurant has character and good food -- a nice option in NEPA -- but we won't be back until we hear (through word of mouth and reviews) that the situation has changed and the problems with staffing are resolved. The older reviews seem stronger than the more recent reviews, so I hope they can turn things around! read more

This was one of the worst dining experiences of my joyous life. Our waitress was ill-equipped for any type of socialization. I know I make women nervous but this was ridiculous. My friends didn't even want to have anymore drinks because it took her 25 minutes to come back and ask us. Let's forget about the popcorn factory novelty factor here. The waitress brought out the wrong steak not once, but twice. We were there for almost 2 hours before I had a chance to eat and speak with the Owner. She made every excuse in the book, when a reputable business owner would have just Apologized from the beginning. Even Orville Redenbacher would have complained about this Third Rate operation. Not a place for after 7pm large dinner parties. We had a group of 20 with reservations. Being a fan of Greek food I was thrilled to be surrounded by family and good food. The family part was right, the food part was wrong. We had 2 servers that covered our group. They wore shirts that said 'It's All Greek To Me' when I ordered spanakopata, my server asked me what it was. I had to show her spinach pie on the menu. To which she pointed out the back of her shirt to me. They had 2 choices of soup, I love the lemon chicken soup, they were out of it, so I opted for the second, and was told they were out of that.We that ordered soup were offered a salad, I ordered the house dressing and got a container of balsamic vinegar(not the good kind) At our end of the table, being family , we picked at each others plates, The gyro meat taste like 'Spam' not to tasty, more like something I would feed my dog. Poor dog! They came around and asked if we would like more drinks, and then told the patriarch of the family he would have to switch to another wine, as they were out of his, the asked if we would like more water, to which I replied, I would like a glass that held water. The lemon slices were soft and old. We were then instructed to go out into the main room of the restaurant to look in the dessert case to select our deserts. When i asked if they had 'galaktoboureko'. I was given the long sad story about how much time the woman in the kitchen cooks. Not my problem, hire help. All in all, when hungry for Greek food go to 309 highway in front of K-Mart an get a gyro from the vendor kart and save yourself a 'TON' of money. read more

I've been here about 3-4 times so far and I love it. It's the only greek place I know of in the area, and they have plenty of non-Greek items as well, if you're not into Greek foods. I never had any of the non-Greek foods though, so I can't comment. I went on a tuesday recently and the service was kind of meh, but it was relatively busy for a Tuesday night maybe because they have a 2 for $22 where you get an app and 2 entrees so that's a pretty nice deal. My favorite menu item is definitely their spinach pie with a side of lemon potatoes. The shrimp saganaki dinner is also a good choice. Overall, really good quality tasty food that is a little different than other nearby restaurants. read more
