I have to agree with the first reviewer...I felt unsafe walking into this building and had to wait for Fred to answer the door to the suite. After being let inside I realized that there was no receptionist or other people at this business, being a young twenty-something female, I felt somewhat uncomfortable with this. Through it all I said I'll give it a try. I wish I could say that it got better and I had a totally relaxing experience but it was the direct opposite. There was just a single stiff sheet on the table and paper towels on the head rest. Now I am not the fanciest of folks, but his suite just looks run down and unprofessional, marks on the walls, fluorescent lights etc. For me the last straw was that he left the room three times during my massage. The first to pick up supplies, the second to EAT LUNCH, the third...he did not explain. I understand that I purchased a discounted massage (Groupon) but this is just unacceptable. Again, just my opinion, but I will not be returning and immediately spoke with Groupon afterwards in order to get a refund. read more

I found Fred through the Groupon deal also - I could NOT have been more pleased. When I recommend him to other people (and I have, often) I say that there is no incense, no candles, no little bubbly fountains. These are POSITIVES in my book. Fred is a knowledgable, thorough massage therapist who managed to untangle a horribly messed up shoulder situation for me in just a couple of visits. Maybe he is not the right choice for someone expecting a spa treatment - you can certainly find that elsewhere. But, if what you are after is a Therapeutic Massage (!), he is fantastic. I have to mention something else, for no reason other than it explains many of the issues brought up in the negative reviews. Fred is blind - he can't see. If you prefer the lights to be off, you will need to hit the switch yourself. He might not think of it, or realize that they are on. This also explains the plain decor - he doesn't really care about what adorns the walls. It also explains the locked office door, which I found odd at first, until I met him and consequently put myself in his shoes. He cannot see you to identify you, so maybe he prefers to greet people in a predictable spot where he is somewhat in control. I'm not sure I'm expressing that right, but I think that's what the locked door is about. I'll ask him tomorrow : ) In my experience, everything in the massage room is clean and sanitary and utterly pleasant - sheets, head/face rest etc. It might be worth pointing out that I have had a lot of massages in a lot of different styles from many different people. Fred is an incredible massage therapist and also a wonderful person. I was experiencing terrible back/neck issues for 8 months or so where I would wake up 1-2 times per month with a sharp pain in my neck and upper back. I could barely move and had to call in sick to work several times. I saw several massage therapists and a chiropractor, but nothing seemed to help. Since I started seeing Fred in spring of 2015, I haven't had this happen. Also, my wife had an issue with her neck that Fred resolved. I've got to disagree with the other reviews. This was by far the best massage I've ever had in my life. Sure, there are no spa-like bells and whistles but when it comes to the actual technique, it just doesn't get any better. I have very tight muscles in my hips and no has has EVER been able to get deep enough to actually release them. Fred was able to unwind the deepest tiniest little tendons, all without hurting me. If you like deep-tissue sports massages and don't mind the lack of frills, this is the place to go! read more

Therapeutic Touch occupies 2 small rooms in a professional and perfectly respectable business building. I rather admire the efficient, minimalist use of space. Fred is a good massage therapist and a very interesting guy. For me it's a great combination-a good massage and if I choose to chat I receive insightful, mature and engaging responses. Fred is all about massages, not burning candles, or tvs playing cgi landscapes, or little electric fountains pushing water over a fake rock. If I could give this business a negative star rating, I would. It was the worst "massage" I have ever subject myself too. I thought about running away as soon as I realized it wasn't an actual business office and had to knock on the door to be let in. The massage table is horrendous with PAPER TOWELS being used to protect your face on the head rest. I was disgusted. There was no blanket per normal massage businesses, no calming music, and the flourescent lights were on the entire time. Not to mention, Fred talks to you the whole time which isn't very relaxing. At the end of the massage he told me "just use the sheet to get the extra lotion off." uck! I got this massage through Groupon and promptly reviewed it to their customer service. I was refunded and hoped they got the point. I was disgusted to see it as a recent deal again and that over 450 were purchased. This was the worst massage I ever had and the worst birthday "treat" I could've purchased for myself. If any of you truly believe it is a great place to go, you've never had a real massage. I strongly disagree with any negative review of this business. This is not a spa, so someone seeking a hot towel spa experience should go elsewhere. What this IS, is a massage therapist who understands the physiology of the body and uses his training and intuition to solve the chronic muscular stress or pain issues of his clients. I've had hundreds of massages - I'm a massage therapist myself - and Fred is one of the few that I have been very impressed with. I initially visited him through a Groupon purchase. He has a strong, deep touch, and I found that he took my cues about how much talking I wanted to do during the session. He was courteous, professional, and he didn't pressure me to work with him further. If you have any chronic muscular issues, I would highly recommend working with Fred to get to the bottom of what's causing them. read more

I bought two massages with Fred through groupon. The business is located in an office building near Baptist hospital. Fred was extremely professional and kind and he was not talking during the massage. There was relaxing music playing and the flourescent lights were not on, only a bit of natural light filtering in through the blind. Was this the best massage that I've ever had? No. Was it the worst? No. I have a hard time finding a massage therapist that uses light enough pressure for me. Most of them feel the knots in my back and can't resist getting in there deep, but Fred was very conscience of my request for light pressure. read more

I visited Fred after experiencing substantial back pain all across my back, due to increased workouts and training for a half-marathon. He came highly recommended by a friend, and after spending over an hour with him, I can see why. Fred was able to pinpoint the most painful areas of my back, and gently, but firmly, work them into submission. When I left his office, my back felt normal for the first time in a month. Those of you who want a luxurious spa-like experience, this may not be the place. No, there's no candles, cushy robe, or free glass of wine. What you get is someone who knows what he is doing, and who fixes your problem areas. Not to mention that he is extremely courteous, friendly, and does not try to sell you on another appointment. I have been to Fred twice in the past year and my wife goes tomorrow. Yes, Therapeutic Touch is very much a no frills establishment with minor inconveniences; however, I have had a very good massage experience both times and would not hesitate to return. There were fitted cloth covers on the head rest, the sheets were clean and fresh, and there was a blanket for whatever level of comfort/modesty you need. I think the trick is to be specific as you should be with any other massage therapist - where the stress is centered, the kind of massage you like, whether you like to talk or not, and don't hesitate to ask Fred to dim the lights as needed. The location is certainly in a professional office building, but it is a small dated space with no real waiting room. read more

I am just stunned at the other reviews. For many years I have had terrible problems with knots in my back and have seen many massage AND physical therapists to no avail. I thought I was destined to have to get a massage every month so that I could move. Fred not only fixed my back, he did it with such slow and gentle pressure that I was NOT SORE the next day like I was with so many other therapists. Additionally, he gave me exercise and stretching ideas that WORKED so well I only go about once every six months now. Yes, I agree his space isn't the best, however, it allows him to charge less and be in a safe neighborhood. Re the lights -- just ask him to turn them off! I think his use of the bed sheet to remove the massage oil is practical and efficient -- it's not like he doesn't wash them! I am also totally fine with the paper towels on the face rest -- again a practical and efficient use of an item rather than buying some I'm sure more expensive specialty product that does the same thing. Finally, I have great conversations with Fred and think of him as a chamelion, being able to talk to any kind of person about a wide range of topics without judgement or drama. That said, I'm positive he would be less talkative if you like. I give him 5 stars and tell anyone who wants a good, professional massage to see him. read more
