The associates who were at this store a few weeks ago (2/10/12) are so nice & sweet. First, they're open til 10pm on Fridays! How awesome is that? I got in around 9:40pm, intending to use the short span of time to keep myself from over-shopping. I ended up trying on about 20 things, and the associates didn't rush me at all. They were just having fun closing down the store, singing along to the radio, and helping me out and suggesting things. They held the store open for a good 30 minutes after closing! The items they didnt have in my size they ordered for pick up at one of their several other locations (perfect - one in North Beach near my place, one in Mountain View near work). I ended up only buying 2 things and they were totally awesome about it - didn't make me feel bad at all for taking so long! read more

I'm gonna put it right out there now. I'm taking one star off because I wish some of the stuff were a little less expensive so I could afford it. I discovered this place in SF and when I found out that we had one here in Campbell, I wanted to jump up and down for joy. This boutique is a hodgepodge of everything from jewelry, clothes, candles, furniture, shoes, accessories, handbags, cards, and probably a whole lot of other stuff that I'm forgetting to mention. When I walked in here, the sales associates were able to pick out some cute dresses for me based on my description of what I was looking for. 2 of them came back to my fitting room with about 6 dresses and shirts to try on. While I wasn't able to purchase everything, I came away with the one dress that I adored. I wish this store was as BIG as the one in Mountain View. I came here Friday night during the Mission Holiday Block Party. Everything in the store was 20%off! It was amazing! I just wish they had more products stocked up! I felt everything was crammed into this tiny store. I was running into people and I felt I was going to walk by and accidently hit something over. I was in a buying mood, but just didn't see what I wanted because they ran out of a lot of stuff! The store has really cool stuff with a cool 20% sale going on now, but their service is awful. Me and my friend went in at around 7:30, and the employees never came up to me and my friend and just kept staring at us and only approached the white customers. One of the employees, a young Latina woman, bumped into me a few times but never said excuse me or acknowledged that she bumped into me. This place has cute things, but unless you're white, don't expect good service here or to feel welcomed. read more

I want to go to Therapy!! Hah? OH the store, haha! Ok! I love this store! I always find something to buy here, gifty stuff, knick knacks, books, bags, cards, folders, notepads - yesterday, I found a USB port that looked like a bar of gold (perfect for the bf, he enjoys gold panning, and loves that show "Gold Rush"). Haha. I usually spend so much time in the front of the store where they have all this cute stuff that I never make it to the back to look at the clothes and shoes. Nice personnel always and I love the re-usable orange bags they give you for your purchases - perfect for taking lunch to work, heh heh. Store has dope stuff. I was honestly going to buy a few items. Everyone that works there is trash. But refused to give this establishment my money because I felt super judged and unwelcome the entire time I was there. I went with my friend today and It was really discouraging and I couldn't even enjoy my shopping experience. The workers were friendly with every other white woman in the store but not me the Black woman with an Afro. I didn't get a "is everything okay" but nope, everyone else did. C'mon guys. I hope the 20% signs mean you're going out of business because I swear if I go back with the same experience as I had tonight which was THE worst shopping experiences I've had in the mission, I don't know something has to be done. Love this store! It's so full of cute stuff. It's not a huge store but totally stuffed so can definitely spend a long time browsing. I loved all the cute little notecards, cards, art prints. A lot of typical housewares stuff, but the cutest version. There's also some clothes here, but it wasn't my style. I wish I could have taken so much of this back on the plane with me! I did buy a few things and they're already up on my wall (aka not things you impulse buy on vacation and end up never using). Also has those typical kitschy things with sayings on them, if you're into that. The place is crowded though, so be careful maneuvering around all the objects! read more

A great store! I love that it's selling unusual stuff, with "Good Night, Trump" being one of my favorites! Maybe next time I come back to this store, I plan to get a birthday card with a narwhal on it (and make my grandma hold on to it until my next birthday) and maybe I'll also get "Good Night, Trump", so I can read it out loud to my little cousin (who lives in Israel BTW) through Skype. New Therapy convert! My galpals have been raving about this boutique for years, but until today I was unable to negotiate the cramped racks and browse beyond the footwear and accessories. That all changed when I was led to a dressing room by Daphne. I think she could smell the shopping bug on me, and plied article upon article of fabulous duddage on me in hopes of procuring the perfect find for my wallet. Turns out, she succeeded as I walked out with a Cheshire grin, four terrific dresses, an adorable skirt and a neato Free People top for the price of a fancy dinner. I will gladly forgo V-day dinner for these! Hooray for Daphne! read more

It goes without saying that Therapy has some insane threads for both X and Y chromosomes... but it seems like the ladies get a better deal at this place than us gents. With the exception of a few punny shirts on the clearance rack, you really can't find anything worth buying for less than $90... and that's just for a Ben Sherman plaid shirt I can pretty much buy anywhere in the city. They also have rad jackets and sweaters, but all are north of $100, and some are in the $200 range. If you're a baller, good on ya... but I don't have the scratch to make purchases here more than once or twice a year. On the other hand, my girlfriend found some sweet lady duds in the $40 or $50 range, which is a pretty great deal. When I have some cizzash burning a hole in my pocket, I'd totally be willing to shill out a few ducks on some of their attire... but alas, it's San Francisco and when you're spending $3 on medium-sized cups of coffee on the regular, a budget surplus isn't very likely. read more

OMg, oMg, OMG, omG. Give it up for the top shop with the mostest. The bomba** shop from the block. THE place to go for reasonably priced, yet VERY stylish apparel, shoes, and accessories... plus a whole lot more. Big fan, here. BIG fan. *Tano handbags (a huge selection) reside here. So many colors and styles- I've never seen such a selection anywhere else. *They carry Sam Edelman and Pink shoes. *There are racks upon racks of Anthropolo-gesc apparel at non-Anthropology prices. I found some lovely tops and dresses here that I should have bought for $40-100. Their selection reminds me a bit of Aprie, but on a slightly higher end scale. For the boys, they carry some looking stuff. I couldn't really tell you more than that b/c I was too busy browsing for myself. Sorry, gents! If that isn't enough, they've got an assortment of Archie McPhee type items in the front to keep you entertained when you're done oooohing and ahhhhhing over items in the back. On a leisurely trip to the Mission (in San Francisco for all my Hawaii yeelps), my friend and I stopped by Therapy. It's an adorable little boutique with everything from dresses to handbags to cute gifts for your girlfriends. My friend had specifically come in search of "the perfect handbag." But like finding "the perfect man," it rarely appears when you're searching for it. Once you stop looking it somehow manages to find you. So Zen huh? Maybe I should start writing fortune cookies. The were having a dress sale at Therapy on that particular day but as I am now six months pregnant I didn't even bother looking through the racks because it would just make me depressed. So instead I found something which I knew would surely fit my fat belly perfectly...sunglasses. I'd been looking for a cheap pair of sunnies and found some black ones for $14. It's tough for me to find sunglasses that fit my face so I was fairly elated when I put them on for the first time. The sales girls at Therapy were very nice and had the whole intentionally messy hair meets model chic thing going on. They even gave me a good recommendation on where to get a quick pregnant girl snack. Thanks Therapy for the gloriously cheap sunglasses! I'll be back for some dress shopping once I lose my baby weight! read more

I don't quite understand the pricing scheme at this store. $50 dresses and $40 hats? What?! Also, the "28" price tag on the cheap-looking "stainless steel" rings are in dollars, not pesos. SF will readily admit it's the most expensive place in the galaxy. For the price of a cocktail, you could probably buy a star. But at Therapy, I felt like there were things I wanted to buy (TOMS! dresses! handbags! Nixon!) at really reasonable prices. I have been to many places similar to therapy in style and type of gifts and items they carry. I loved this place the best. They have gifts for every body all year round and all occasions. The employees were exceptional, helpful and not overbearing. Usually when I go into stores similar to Therapy - the staff is usually very yuppie and pompous and depending on how threatening you look they either follow you around the store or they don't even acknowledge you. The prices are VERY DECENT. I've been into other stores where the same item is 50% more than what I have found there. So Kudo's to Therepy for selling great quality products and not seeing how much you can get over on your customers. read more

Pro tip: No matter how ambiguously lettered their chalkboard sign might be, this store is in fact not named The Rapy. It took us many more seconds to determine this than it should, and I'd like to save you the embarrassment. Once that was settled, my group sauntered in and was pretty much instantly blown away by all of the concentrated awesome within their four walls. I had bought a home like RIGHT before our visit, and was mentally decorating it with their wares, resigning myself to the idea that I could never afford anything in this incredibly well-curated SF boutique. NOPE! The price points were shockingly low! People with regular jobs can shop here and have nice apartments! Color me pleasantly surprised. Now it's been a minute since I've visited, and I don't want to talk up merch that is no longer there, but I will say that I'll be checking out Therapy on any and all return visits to SF. read more

Easily one of my favorite stores in the Nission, between here and Candystore I'm definitely buying something. For girls, they have a super collection of local and national brands, but choice brands they are. The same goes for guys clothing, think Gama-Go and Ben Sherman, Paul Frank). The real fun stuff, though, is Therapy's selection of toys, stationary, books and assorted other what-nots. You can always find a perfect gift here, with just the right amount of stylish kitsch. Special points for staying open late on weekdays, I think until 8pm on some nights, so you can stop in like normal people after work. The Therapy addendum next door stocks sofas and other types of furniture, some artwork, pillows and rugs, and housewares. read more

This is one of my favorite little shops to browse in when I'm in the Mission! Cute kitschy knickknacks, a lovely selection of Voluspa candles, funny quirky cards for every occasion, SHOES!, purses, CLOTHES! (both men & women), baby items jewelery, sunglasses and Nixon watches. I have found great gifts for people here, and yanno... well sometimes I don't need gifts for others. I just want things for my own damn self. hah! I know a lot of gals will contradict my review, but this is coming from the male fashionista perspective. Yes, there are a lot of cool things here I love. They have a great selection of gloves during wintertime, nice bags and awesome books! I've also checked out the gals clothes collection and it's pretty good. My friend loves shopping here so I frequent this place more than I'd like. HOWEVER, as this store markets itself as indie, fresh and unconventional, the male fashion here is so extremely conventional. It's all Penguin Brand western shirts and polos. Really, really boring conventional stuff. It's so upsetting to see such a diverse and fresh ladies section and such a boring and unremarkable male's section. Other than that, I love the people that work here, I love the books and it's a generally good place to spend some time while waiting to be seated at a nearby restaurant. read more

I think the term "Valencia Corridor" needs to die. It's the MISSION, ok? It doesn't need your real estate terms to make it pretty. I remember the days when any decent SF citizen would not be caught dead on 16th and Valencia. That's right people; no bars, no restaurants, just crackheads. Thank heavens for urban-renewal, because now I have a new reason to come here during daylight hours! Therapy is a clothing and novelty boutique...somewhat along the lines of Anthropolgie and Ambiance. Like so many businesses these days they are running some awesome sales: $60 cocktail dresses, affordable outerwear, shoes, boots, Vegan Leather handbags (among others) all marked down 20%. There are brands you might recognize like Free People and Hobo combined with others you may not. It works though. The pieces cater to both urban and natural tastes...funky and fashion-forward. There is a little something for everyone here (including the guys!). The awesome sales people will be more than happy to help you select the perfect gift, big or small. Definitely a therapeutic change from some of my regular SF shopping stops. read more

Therapy is the best-- I can always find something unique and fun here. The employees are all extremely friendly and remember my pug and shower him with treats whenever we come in. The manager is exceptionally awesome, he has so much energy and is always ready to help! This store is great for finding a unique gift for a friend, cute cards, awesome candles, neat home decor, stylish clothes, humorous gifts, books, jewelry, you name it-- Therapy has it! What's awesome is that they are all quality items, not junk or tacky. Some of my favorite purchases from Therapy have been a hipsterish picnic blanket, a succulent and cool pot to go with it, and a polka dot dress that I adore. Dating Advice for guys: A smart guy who actually likes girls and wants to attract them would come here and ask the friendly, well-dressed sales girls for suggestions. I spend a lot of time at my boyfriend's bar watching guys fail over and over again at picking up girls, and the two guys I notice never fail also happen to have the best style of all of the guys in the room. I also happen to know that both of these guys have and do shop at Therapy. Yes, it's a little on the pricey side, but just as they say you dress for the job you want, not the one you have, the same goes for girls. If you show up to a bar on a Friday night wearing a Wal-Mart quality shirt, you're going to attract Wal-Mart quality girls. You spend at least $50 on your video games (unless you buy them used) and let's face it, such a purchase only decreases your chances of getting laid and/or meeting your dream girl. That's roughly the cost of a shirt from here, which you can wear time and time again, increasing your chances of catching all those fish in the sea of love. read more

True to its name, my friend and I were drawn to this shop following our mid-day meditation session. Therapy has two stores side by side ~ one for furniture and one for women's and men's apparel, hats, shoes, and gifts (i.e. jewelry, books, watches, artwork, frames, witty cards and baby items). They channel a retro-eclectic style, with a healthy dose of whimsy. The two women who helped me ~ Desiree and Emillie, were very kind and helpful. I saw this as they were helping other customers too. Stand out service like this is (sadly) few and far in between these days, so coming across this outstanding customer appreciation really brightened my day that much more. All-in-all, I had a great 'Therapy' session and even found a couple of items I've been searching for, both reasonably priced. I look forward to returning! read more

This is my happy place. I went to Therapy looking for some fake mustaches (see my review of The Go Game). Not only did they totally deliver with the "mustache for every day of the week" set I also walked out with the cutest headband and visions of all the other stuff I wanted to buy. Looking for new, fab sunglasses? They've got 'em. Super cute dresses or shoes? They're here for sure. Accessories from earrings to bracelets to hair stuff? You bet. Plus all that zany, kitschy stuff that the mustache set would fall into. And, best of all, the staff is super, super nice. In places like this sometimes the opposite can occur and that really makes me reluctant to spend my money in shops like that, no matter how much I love their stuff. I'm glad that Therapy made my buying decisions easy. Although, I'm not sure my wallet agrees. read more

Shoes! The salesgirls here were totally adorable and way more fashionable than I am. They have a great eclectic selection of...well..everything. Hats, shoes, bags, tops. The shoes even say on the bottom which sizes they have left which was helpful. I bought a super cute pair and had to stop myself from also buying a Betsey Johnson purse. Why I like this place: They take AmEx. Shoes. They are next to an awesome tapas bar. Shoes They have cute purses Shoes. The vibe in here is really nice too; it should have been annoying but it really wasn't. I really love this store. Like it's serious-moving-in-together love that I have for Therapy. Aside from having a metric shitton of knickknacks, books, comics and other assorted stuff, Therapy has REALLY super cute clothes, shoes and purses. The sad thing is that it's a little too expensive for me, so I rarely shop there. Example: I have a tarty dress that I'm planning on wearing to Alice S's art opening next Thursday; but, because I'm going to be there in a professional capacity I needed to un-tart it a smidge... So I figured I'd buy a cute little cardigan to go over it. OF COURSE Therapy had a cute little cardigan - short sleeves, rhinestone buttons, shows some without showing all - perfect for this dress. Cost to Kate for this cute little cardigan (which is cotton, btw, b/c I'm allergic to wool, suckas so don't even try that "was it cashmere?" shit with me!) $52 FIFTY TWO DOLLARS. Ugh. The thing is that I love this store and their clothes so much that I will shop there regardless of the fact that I'm broke. I only bitch about it afterwards. Oh yeah and the staff is exceptionally attractive in a punk-alt-indie way and really nice. Go ahead add insult to injury. I am aghast that I haven't reviewed this eponymous establishment after over a decade of delighted patronage! My hip girlfriend who is literally a trendspotter for one of the world's leading retailers (seriously, her title is "Senior Director of Trend" and you WILL know where she works) introduced me to Therapy around 2002. It's hard to find anywhere else with clothing & jewelry as cute, sunglasses & accessories as hip, and deals so incredibly delish as this place. And note I'm referring to the clothing store. I wish I had a fatter wallet to do some damage to the *extremely* hip furniture store just adjacent. But I have looked, and drooled, and attest to its worthiness. Back to the clothing & jewelry place: I get my cutest chunky rings and earrings here. I got my first unique cell-phone (pre-smartphone) hip-holder here. And I get the most perfect gifts and cards here. The service is always friendly and they stay open LATE: past 9pm on weekdays. In San Francisco, the City that Always Sleeps. Janelle, Dani, and Dom, provided me with one of the best retail experiences I've had in a long time tonight. I came in looking for dress slacks for an interview, and had kind of a bitchface when they told me they didn't have any, but they didn't give up on me, and were so kind and polite. Janelle asked if I might be interested in something else, and could they help me pick out an appropriate outfit. I put down the bitchface and allowed them to help me. All three of them grabbed a few items that they thought I might like that also met my criteria and fit within my budget. They did such a fantastic job choosing pieces that I never would have selected for myself - so good, in fact, that I had a really hard time choosing which outfit to purchase. It feels good to support a local retailer that understands the value of providing excellent customer service, and hires top-notch staff. I have a monthly clothing budget, and I work nearby, so I will definitely be visiting Therapy again soon! read more

I'm half debating whether or not I want I want to write a review for this boutique... because the more people that know about this place, the less clothes for me!! Just kidding. Kind of. My bank account is extremely upset with me for all the money I spend here. Never have I ever walked out of this store empty handed, and I get compliments on literally every item I've bought from this store! Everything here is reasonably priced. No, you're not gonna get cheap Forever 21 prices here, but you won't get low quality, cookie cutter articles of clothing either. You get what you pay for, people! If you want better made, more unique additions to your wardrobe, Therapy is without a doubt your go-to store. Besides the actual apparel being undeniably fashionable, the sales associates here go above and beyond to help you with whatever you need. Whether I'm looking for a dress for a special occasion, or just casually browsing around, or even if I need a second opinion on which color sweater to buy, they are always approachable and willing to offer their honest opinion. On more than one occasion, different sales associates have remembered who I am and what I bought on my previous visit (which might just mean I shop there way too often.....). Even if the exact size or color you want isn't currently stocked, they try their best to order it for you or get it from their other store! I live out in Modesto now (if you don't know where it is, don't worry its not important), but I still make the hour and a half trek out to SF to shop here (and maybe also to visit Tartine a few blocks away). If you're looking for a gift, this is the place to go. Affordable and unique, everything in here has some personality. Customer Service: I once saw a Dolly Parton prayer candle and came back a few weeks later to purchase for a coworker. Unfortunately they were out of that particular one (who knew there were that many Dolly fans??) however, they were super helpful in transferring one from another store. I was able to pick up the gift at the original location within a week. Everyone was super helpful! read more

One of those stores I adore but pretty much never purchase anything from. Bottom-line, out of my price range for the quality that I'm getting. Yes, the clothes are definitely adorable and the variety is beyond normal chain department stores... But the clothes can be quite trendy at times and I'm having a hard time accepting that this ruffled 1980s sweater look is back in. That and the 1990s grunge unshapely shirt look that popped up overnight. Plus, I don't want to pay $80 for a plain jersey knit wrap dress. Or $98 for a Little House on the Prairie granny sweater. Does this just mean I'm really out of touch? Probably. But truthfully, I don't mind. If y'all want to have your trends, go for it. But still, I return to this store every so often in hopes I'll find a non-trendy and affordable gem. That's why I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with four stars instead of three. I will note that I don't trust the staff here. My friend was looking for a holiday dress for an office party and I walked in the middle of the staff girls giving their "Oh, that's NICE! That color looks really good on you!" opinions on a dress that really wasn't her style. Look, ladies, I've known this girl for ten years. We've even lived together. I know what she likes and she likes honesty. Needless to say, I cut through the BS and helped her find a dress for her holiday party in less than 15 minutes. Which is more than the sales associate who thought she'd want to wear some shiny paisley dress can say. I took one look at that thing and remarked: "Yeah. I don't think my friend's going to like that fabric." But no no, she's the sales associate so she showed it to my friend anyways. And yeah, I told you, she didn't like it. I came here with one of my girlfriends because she had to return something, and this is one of her new favorite stores -- she thought I had to check it out. I'm not a shopper -- I like to get dressed, and on occasion, I think shopping can be fun. If you have money. Which I don't. They seemed to have a huge sale, and the entire store was 20% off. They had a decent sales rack with some jeans and sweaters that were going for $20 or less. I tried a couple of things on, and I liked some items -- but I didn't really love them. In these tough times, I really have to love something to buy it. I saw a couple of cute shoes, but the ones I would have even considered purchasing were only available in small sizes... how many women have feet that are 6.5?!?!??!?!!? Who are these teeny tiny women? Does foot binding still exist?!?!?!!?!? Nevertheless, I wasn't all that impressed, and left empty handed. read more
