Dr. Pittman is a teacher first and foremost. If you have any questions about what she is doing/what is going on, she will explain it to you in a way that is accessible to the typical human. She is also a great listener as her physical therapy sessions end up becoming mental therapy sessions. I went here for 2-3 weeks and was highly disappointed. Lack of professionalism - The physical therapist I was working with is quite young; however, she just flat out did not like me for some reason. I would see how she engages other patients, but, for me, not so much as a how was your day. That's fine, as long she gets the job done, but she she couldn't even do that. I probably spent around 20-25 minutes in each session. 1/2 the time she was on the computer while I was doing exercises. She wouldn't take into consideration anything that I would tell her. Worst muscle/trigger point 'massage' ever. It was like someone was poking me with a stick. Even after her initial treatments failed to work, she didn't bother adjusting the exercises. It was very clear she did not care. There is another place called Center for Neuromuscular Therapy right down the street. It is x10 better in all regards. AND - the sessions are 1 hour long in a private room. read more

*Update* Needless to say I was I surprised when I got a call from the office manager to come in for another running analysis, so I did. This was a completely different experience (in a good way) Not sure if they were being extra attentive so my review would change or if this is just how the different PT operated (either way is fine by me). This Running analysis was way more hands on and informative than the first time, so I am a happy patient. The PT I worked with this time was very knowledgeable and answered all of my questions, I got to actually see the video of me running so I could better understand the body positioning she was telling me about. I am a visual person so seeing myself run definitely let me see the things that she informed me of that need to be worked on. Most people don't particularly "love" coming to physical therapy, but I do! I broke my foot and sprained my ankle during ballet class a year ago and started seeing Dr. Joanne Devito over the summer. This place is full of expert practitioners who understand how athletes (and dancers!) use their bodies and the stressors that accompany them, as well as those just going about their lives with normal activity. It's a positive, encouraging, fun environment - there's always laughter and happiness while I'm there! Since coming to Therapydia, I've not only recovered from my injuries but I can honestly say I am a stronger, better dancer now because of my physical therapist. Jane clearly knows what she is doing but she was also a bit curt and patronizing. I learned good things from her but was looking for a bit friendlier delivery. Primary complaint is the space is run down and poorly arranged. Right when you walk in there are scuff marks on the walls. The therapy space itself is tiny, with hardly any equipment, and awful acoustics. All the therapists and patients are packed together in one room, making the din unpleasant. read more

I sprained my ankle playing soccer in early June and thought I could RICE and tough it out and it'd go away. That was not quite the case after a week, and putting any sort of weight on my left ankle (including escaping from the dungeon known as Farragut West metro escalator) was very painful. Like most regular folks, I yelp'ed for a place close to work and found Therapydia. Jane was my PT and she was great and very attentive. Over the next 7 weeks or so we did a series of PT exercises and by the end of the summer, I was able to squat and run again. I was only seen for ~20 minutes of my 30 min appointment. Always late with other patients or not. Would always turn on TV to watch football stuff and talk to others. I had to pay $150 for each lousy treatment! Treatment did nothing for me. Waste of time, money and effort! Told me I was healed! Now I am seeing a real, helpful and tentative physical therapist. This place is thebomb.com! I came into Therapydia barely walking. I have a chronic illness and was almost immobile. My knee swelled and I could not bend it, my back/chest was spasming and painful, but after physical therapy, I was able to bend my knee and the pain subsided. I WAS AMAZED! I have been coming into Therapydia twice a week now and it is the therapy that keeps me in motion. My therapy rotates between my elbow, my knees and my back/chest. I have been seeing Dr. Tim Vidale for about two months now. He is helping me recover from a fully ruptured achilles tendon, and we're both working toward me playing soccer again. This injury is terrible and it's a tall order. I really like visiting Dr. Vidale, and his treatment and exercise are helping me recover from this injury faster than I expected, and faster than a friend who had the same injury last year. Even my surgeon is impressed with the progress I'm making. The biggest reason I gave Dr. Vidale 5 stars is because of the personal attention and the program he put together for me. You book 30 minutes with him, and you are the only patient he sees during that time. That is far superior to other PT clinics I've been to where the therapist spends 5-10 minutes with you and sends you off to do exercises while they see other patients. Dr. Vidale is continually monitoring my progress and tailoring the sessions and take-home exercises for me. He is very responsive to my discomfort (achilles tears HURT) and pushes me to work through it while staying cautious not to do any damage. He's everything an athletic person would want in a physical therapist. He is a current athlete and understands the physical condition we want to get back to. read more

Jane is the best therapist I've had in my life. I went for TMJ and migranes and my life is transformed. I was taking medication everyday to deal with my pain but that has significantly reduced with this treatment. She has changed my chronic pain in 8 weeks from almost unbearable to extremely livable and manageable for my life. I've been seeing Tim (Dr. Vidale) since August 2016, and I'm grateful for each session and the progress he's helped me make. Highly recommend Tim! I came in with a whole lot of issues - from neck and lower pain to frequent headaches to foot injuries keeping me from running again. Tim took the time needed to give me a thorough assessment to chart my future care. He makes sure to adjust the plan as things change (e.g. painfree in an area or new pain in another area). Tim has a gift for understanding how pain in one part of the body can be caused by pain, tightness, or another issue elsewhere in the body. He makes sure to treat me in a way that keeps my entire body in mind. Tim introduced me to dry needling - a treatment that, for me, hurts quite a bit but that has helped me see quick gains related to muscle tightness and mobility. Tim always works at a pace that makes sense for me and the degree of pain/discomfort the needling may cause that day. In January of this year - about 5 months after I started going to Therapydia - I had a nasty fall that resulted in some new pains, bruises, and scars and startled me quite a bit. Almost immediately after the fall, I called the office and John (Therapydia's awesome office manager!) helped me get a quick appointment with Tim that very day. Tim made sure nothing was broken, helped ease some of the initial discomfort from the fall, and made sure I was both physically and emotionally sound. I was so upset that the accident had happened because I didn't want to go backward when making progress. Tim helped assure me that we'd get through this together, and he's kept his promise! This is just one example of how Tim goes above and beyond. My family lives across the country, and Tim has started to feel like family to me. I go in twice a week, and we share stories and laugh about life. The sessions fly by, and I always feel better at the end of each one. Because of Tim, my quality of life has drastically improved. I'm hoping that this review doesn't make him more popular than he already is (because that will make it tougher to get my appointments scheduled), but he deserves the recognition. I have frequent sinus-related and migraine headaches and I have endured the pain for years. I've taken prescription meds, which have had awful side effects and/or have just had to suffer through the pain until the migraine subsides - which is typically no less than 2-3 days (leaving me debilitated during many of the episodes). I tried non-traditional treatments including acupuncture and had minimal relief or success. Dr. Vidale has treated me for knee and upper back pain and used a technique called DRY NEEDLING on my back. I will not lie, it was a little painful, but the treatment worked and helped tremendously with my back pain and muscle tightness. Upon discussing my chronic migraines, Dr. Vidale also mentioned that dry needling is used to treat headaches and that he has treated many headache patients using this method. I was weary at first, particularly because I am not a fan of needles. But once I had THE monster of all headaches that started at the end of the week and continued throughout the weekend, with no relief in sight, I contacted Dr. Vidale to try dry needling. I was definitely nervous as he located and placed the first needle at the site of my headache. I felt a small pinch and some discomfort but was amazed at how I could feel the tightness and pressure in my head release IMMEDIATELY. He continued with 3-4 more needles and within 5-10 minutes my headache was GONE - I PROMISE!! My headache did not return and all I could do was wish that I had gone to Dr. Vidale sooner for him to treat me using dry needling. If another migraine decides to rear its ugly head, the first call I'll make will be to Dr. Vidale because I know that he will provide quality and effective treatment that will allow me to get back to enjoying life quickly. read more

Actually, if i could rate it to zero, I would! PLEASE DONOT GO there!!! I had a very frustrating experience with Thyrapydia after almost 5 months of treatment and intense sessions and major insurance and coverage issue. This is the worst PT service in Washington DC by far, i can certainly say that after trying another PT center. I had an injury in my left knee and was referred to them by my primary care. My therapist was Robert Rogacki, I was not feeling better with the treatment and started feeling pain in my other knee. Later, I had more injuries in my ankle and it was not explainable and i get to know that I have hypermobility disorder and after doing a research and reading, it all made sense and I was referred by a rheumatologist to start special PT treatment for hypermobility (which I was already doing) and here is the shock, my PT continue to give me the same exercises even after the new diagnosis and was not able to give me advice on what to do in terms of exercise so he was completely clueless about Hypermobility so I decided to do myself a favor and suspend the treatment with them (It was a great decision!). Apart from that, I had a a major issue with the insurance as two month after starting with Thyrapydia, all my claims were rejected by the insurance and my balance reached USD 900 and they never told me anything. I figured out by chance from an automatic payment notification, when I asked about it they told me "YES, THERE IS AN ISSUE!!!!". Later, it was another four months of STRUGGLE with them and their Staff member (John) in the reception who was not able to sort out the insurance issue. IT WAS ONLY WHEN I DECIDED TO NOT GO THERE ANYMORE, they started chasing me for the payment as their HQ in California started calling me and THREATENING ME. I insisted on not paying and asked them to sort it out with the insurance, as IT IS THEIR DC OFFICE fault. After four months of struggle and fight, their headquarters sorted it out with the insurance and I still had to pay part of it, but at least the insurance covered the majority. I am sure I am not the only person who experienced such an issue, it seems that they do that on purpose so we can pay out of pocket and they don't tell you so you can continue the treatment. I was waiting to actually heal and test this out so I could write an honest review. I have a condition called Chondromalacia patella. Let me start by saying that I went to a few other PTs before this and my issue was not remotely addressed. I used to run a lot and about 2 years ago I started to feel a pain in my knee when I ran and over time also when I walked. Last winter was really terrible for me and I knew that I had to take this seriously and do some solid research to find a good PT! I thank my stars that I found Therapydia DC! From the moment I walked in, I could sense that this place was like no other. Dr. Vidale spent a lot of time explaining the condition to me in layman terms. I made him repeat it so many times and yet he answered every doubt patiently. He is very friendly, caring and passionate about your recovery. He gives you exercises that are very doable and I did not realize that I ever so effortlessly built muscle around my knee! I like to get personalized attention and that is the best part about this place! I wasn't left in a corner doing the same exercise for an hour by myself (like the old PT). In fact, the doctors even correct you during the sessions when you think they are not looking! I loved the high fives at the end of successful sessions! :) Also, in my first session, I had no idea about dry needling and was skeptical. He explained how it works and I trusted him with it! It has worked so well that I am planning to go back for dry needling for my chronic headaches! I have seen Jenn when Dr. Vidale was not available one week and she is amazing too! I had a soccer mishap that my orthopedic surgeon described as the "worst sports-related injury [he] had ever seen." I went to PT for about 6 months after. I thought it was as healed as it was going to get. A year ago, I had my third surgery on the same ankle. I found Dr. Vidale online and figured it would be similar to my first round of PT. Here are some key differences: 1. Your entire session is 1:1 with Dr. Vidale. My last PT had several patients doing exercises at any given time. Dr. Vidale devotes the time and energy to really understand the injury and monitor progress. If he assigns me ninety calf raises, he is watching all ninety of them. 2. Dr. Vidale works with athletes. PT sessions feel like practice. Once you master one drill, Dr. Vidale will make it more challenging or give you a new drill to do. He does not give praise to make you feel good, he gives praise when you accomplish something. 3. At my last PT, my goals were set by some mysterious industry standards that may or may not have had anything else to do with me. Dr. Vidale sat with me at the beginning of my PT and we established mutually agreed upon goals. This helps me monitor my own progress and be able to identify growth. 4. I look forward to my PT sessions each week. First, Amina is an awesome office manager. Not only is she competent and good at her job, she is also fun and friendly. Next, Dr. Vidale really shows an interest in his patients and has a great bedside manner. Even if I am frustrated with my inability to complete exercises perfectly, I still leave having enjoyed the experience. When I first tried PT a few years ago, I had no idea what to look for. Because of my ignorance, I submitted to substandard PT that caused me to not heal properly. After my experience with Dr. Vidale at Therapydia, I know what excellent Physical Therapy is. I rarely write reviews, but Therapydia warrants one. Jennifer Nelson is hands down the best PT I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot. Her knowledge and bedside manner is just incredible. After my chronic pain was flaring for months on end, she was finally able to locate the root cause and calm it down. I am now so much more functional and cannot thank her enough. Unfortunately, I had to move out of the area, and can no longer see her... I wish there were more PTs out there like Jennifer. My one complaint is the difficulty in getting appointments. The PTs all book out pretty quickly, so unless you book several visits at a time, you will end up waiting. I wish they would cap the number of patients each PT takes to allow current patients more access to appointments. But regardless, she is amazing! read more

I visited Dr. Tim Vidale for a foot injury. He was knowledgeable and professional. He explained everything that was happening with my foot, why and what the treatment plan was to fix it. He used a tablet to show what was happening under the skin. I left my first appointment feeling like I know what was going on and that it was going to get better. It did get better, much better. I like that Dr. Vidale really listens to what is happening with your injury throughout your treatment and tweaks or adds when necessary. The exercises were not always pleasant or easy but they worked! The office is wonderful, not at all what i expected for that building. Light and airy and friendly. The receptionist warmly welcomes you in. I tell everyone who knows me how PT went that he is awesome. He is really an awesome doctor. read more

These guys are the best. There is a reason everyone gives them 5 stars. At first glance, it's the personal attention really separates this practice from others. But then you find that not only does the team want to make sure you are getting their full attention, but they want to make sure you see results, too. I work with Jennifer, and she is terrific. I came to Therapydia for knee surgery recovery but told Jen about chronic hip paid from a pulled groin muscle that occurred more than 10 years earlier, plus chronic shoulder pain and she concluded that it was all related. The work she is doing across all three problem areas is definitely making a difference! I actually asked my orthopedist for another prescription when my first one ran out so I could keep going. If you're looking for a PT that is NOT running an assembly line of patients lying on massage tables or getting some kind of heat therapy, but actually giving patients 1-1 time and attention, go to Therapydia. read more

Dr. Nelson is great. However I feel that the environment is very unprofessional. The therapists talk to each other about movies, politics, sports etc. as if this is a barbershop or social setting. As the client, this makes you feel like you do not have their undivided attention. This is unacceptable. There is also no privacy curtain, you are treated out in the open with all the other clients. I truly hope the staff reads this and makes changes because their talent is being over shadowed by their lack of professionalism. I will not be returning. read more

My visit with Dr. Vidale was my first with a physical therapist. I am not much of an athlete but I somehow injured my hamstring at the gym. Dr Vidale was very accommodating and very kind. He even eased my nervousness by making me laugh at myself. I felt like I had his full attention during the entire session. He explained my injury to me and made sure I understood what happened and what needed to happen going forward. I think my PT is great. However, I feel that 30minutes is way too short to get any kind of thorough treatment especially when a patient is in a lot of pain. I overheard another patient saying that her muscles are tight, rather than being in pain. So, it doesn't make sense to spend the same amount of time with patients who are just tight rather than in extreme pain. read more

Dr Tim Vidale is a miracle worker. I have been with him for about 8 weeks and am amazed by the improvements throughout my neck, upper and lower back. He knows the human body like a map and can pinpoint targeted areas that need work/treatment. Dr Vidale has also been very helpful advising me on ergonomic positions while using the computer, as extended sitting was uncomfortable for me and wrote a letter on my behalf advising my employer to provide a standing desk. He obviously deeply cares about his patients, which is one of the many outstanding traits of his practice. Before meeting Dr. Vidale I was skeptical of PT being able to help, and as a former personal trainer, thought I knew all the best exercises and treatments, and wasn't sure what I would get out of it. I extremely happy with the results and could not be more grateful for his treatments. I am thrilled with the results and his practice thus far. In fact,I even brought my wife to work with a female PT who recently joined his practice. One of the many amazing things about Therapydia is that Dr Vidale's practice focuses on each patient individually. He does not juggle multiple patients at once, but instead will give you his undivided attention and care, which is unique and much better for patients. During my 1 hour evaluation, he gave me his complete attention and carefully and thoughtfully explained what was happening in my anatomy, what he recommended, and why. This leads me to my next point, which is that Dr Vidale is extremely skilled in his treatment. One of his specialties is called 'dry needling'. I was pretty skeptical/fearful of this at first, let me tell you. essentially it is a form of acupuncture where the practitioner is inserting microneedles into the skin to stimulate muscle tissue which has knotted. While I admit that it can be slightly painful at first, the results are outstanding and worth every second of the treatment. I actually looked forward to the slight tingling sensation this needles provided, as I knew my muscles were being released and the microspasms the needles caused were helping the knots become much smaller and eventually disappear. Dr Vidale is so, so, highly skilled in this art. My first session was quite mild, and he only progressed with the dry needling as I felt comfortable and provided feedback. In summary, I would highly recommend Dr Tim Vidale for any and all of your PT needs. Specifically, mine was for a work-related issue in the back from sitting and he really helped me with this. I feel he would be equally good at treating any sort of injury (as I read in his Yelp reviews, myself before deciding to come here).
