Hanging out with a friend in Norwich and right next to her apartment, across the parking lot is These Guys Brewing Co.! So we walked over there for lunch to check it out! Here's how it went! Atmosphere/Appearance: It was pretty quiet since it was a Sunday around 1:00pm so there weren't a lot of folks. Our guest was handicapped and in a wheelchair so they allowed us to sit in their sunken room which has access directly from the outside. There was a lot of natural light, light woods, exposed brick and an unfinished concrete floor which gave this place a real tavern and warming feel. Service: I can't remember who took care of us, but I don't recall having any issues whatsoever. Food: I started off with their wings of course! We got their South Asian Beer Sauce which was pretty decent, but reminiscent of a sweet Thai chili. However, the wings were thickly-breaded and I'm not the biggest fan of that. They were cool, but I wouldn't spin the block for them. As a side I got the steamed broccoli which actually was really good! They were al-dente and not too hard or soft with plenty of seasoning. My wife enjoyed a salmon dish with Brussels sprouts and asparagus while our friend had a grilled chicken Caesar salad. I don't remember hearing complaints from either of them. Value: My wings were $15.00 and they were of the jumbo variety, so I guess they were worth it. Side of broccoli was like $6.00 I believe, so it was a relatively inexpensive lunch. The Caesar salad with chicken was $21.00 and my wife's salmon with vegetables was $25.00. So this place isn't a cheap-eats kinda deal, but it's not terribly expensive either. In conclusion, I liked it here! It's chill, the food was decent and it was a nice place to hang out. We had a hard time finding this restaurant. Our map apps brought us to two different places, but we were persistent, and so glad!! Our server was amazing! So efficient and friendly. While we waited for food, we were captivated by the ambiance and decor! Completely surrounded by windows and ropes! We felt like we were on a sailboat! Wow! The bar was very lively. The food was fantastic! I had a signature burger that was perhaps one of the best burgers I've ever eaten. Cooked to perfection!!! And the sweet potato fries were wonderful! And this is just the beginning of this positive review. We were one of the last tables to leave, close to closing. We drove 30 min to drop off our son, when his girlfriend discovered she had left her purse behind. We called the number on our receipt, with no hope of an answer or response. After a couple tries, a manager answered, and offered to have someone WAIT at the restaurant another 30 min. so she could return and retrieve her purse. WOW!!! The new location for these guys is absolutely gorgeous with waterfront views and plenty of parking. They always put out a solid product in terms of food and service. This time I had their summer salad which featured chicken, blueberries, fried goat cheese croquettes, mandarin oranges, and red onions on salad greens (if I forgot any ingredients I'm sorry). It came with a blueberry dressing that was absolutely to die for. The salad was incredible and I had half left for dinner that same night. The venue is fantastic! Right on the water with a nice breeze. The service was alright albeit a little gruff. It wasn't busy but the bartender was maybe having a bad day. It didn't take away from the experience at all. Just felt a little rough. The nachos were great! The sweet and savory of the tuna, seaweed and the aioli made the dish! I would come back again. The atmosphere, beer and service was outstanding. We had fish and chips, which was good but the fish was dry. The batter coating was very thick so maybe that was the reason, too long in the fryer. However, the coating was very tasty and not oily at all. We also had the chicken wings with special sweet/ spicy sauce - excellent! If this is your first visit to Norwich and the restaurant use your GPS! The town streets were one way and difficult to navigate on a rainy night. Will definitely visit again. Came by to meet up with friends at their new location at the Marina. Dinner portions were large enough that my friends had to take almost half home. We also had some appetizers that's were delicious and great portion. When we arrive the had a live band that had just finished playing and sadly they didn't have background music playing. We tried some great draft beers and left as the kitchen closed at 9pm and it looked like the bar was emptying out. Service was great as usual. read more

Thank you These Guys for hosting my family's private event last week! My (now) SIL had her rehearsal dinner at These Guys brewery, and everything was delicious and well organized and went very smoothly. First of all I LOVE that this is a female owned business. Secondly all the staff was very attentive and personal- I felt like I was a regular there, and i dont even live in CT. Thirdly they pumped out tons of hot delicious food which was nicely plated & everyone enjoyed. My favorite was the veggie stuffed mushrooms, and i liked the flatbreads and salad too. Last but not least the beer was delicious! I think my fav was Jeanne's dream, an apricot hazy fruit beer, but the strawberry blonde was also a personal favorite. They also have cocktails & wine to cover all their bases. Highly recommend These Guys for a private event and I bet the bar is a great spot any night of the week! read more

3 Horrible Experiences with These Guys Brewing Food: We both got sick from eating their food two of the three times we went. It was really bland and we went in with high hopes that their new location would come with better food. The food they had in their old location was similar with bland typical American bar food and really greasy. Service: We jogged their one day and ordered a calamari and diet coke just because we wanted something to peck at and the server was so annoyed we didn't order a drink with alcohol. Another time we wanted to sit with some friends and the waitress waved us off like we were a nuisance to her. It felt like we were not allowed to be there at all for all three times. The waitress unprovoked, also gets sassy and annoyed if you ask to get seated. Finally, we called ahead this time to get reservations and got hung up on mid conversation without any follow up calls or apology. Ambience: The new location is a waterfront that is nice but, with the poor service they have there is no point in even going unless you want a bad time. It can also feel cramped if you are sitting inside. My advice: Don't go thinking you'll have a good time or good food. It's not worth it. read more

If it wasn't for the exceptional staff and service it would be hard to find any redeeming qualities here. The area: honestly seemed a little run down and sketchy. We couldn't even tell if the brewery was open. Wouldn't want to go there at night. The beer: I understand not every beer can't be treehouse quality but we tried a large variety and still couldn't find one we enjoyed. The food: it was fine. Some in our party weren't happy with how the food tasted. I saw the soup and it looked horrible tbh. The pricing: I could not believe how expensive the dinner options were!! This is a brewery, not fine dining. I'm not afraid to pay up for a great meal but this was true sticker shock, especially based on how average everything was. They do have a nice bar area with a decent bourbon selection so I'll give them that. With so many good breweries in CT, even in this area, I see no reason to visit this one again. read more

The location was really nice. Beer was excellent. Cocktails are a bit expensive but that's just the way it is. As for my meal, I got the brewhouse Burger. Everything but the bun was really good. They could have stepped it up by simply toasting the bun or provided something a little more artisanal. Fries came cold but they were quickly replaced when I brought it to the server's attention. My wife got the Caesar salad which was really good and a side of macaroni and cheese. But it's just scooped out of a big pot and put into a little individual serving baking tray. First off the Parking is horrendous, very little parking and you had to circle the lot several times waiting for someone else to leave for a parking spot. We had reservations for seven o'clock and wasn't seated until a little after eight, the tables are mostly outdoor, there is no lighting not even as much as a tea light on the table (there was one dim light off in the distance on the edge of the dock). Thankfully there was a QR to scan for the menu, otherwise I would have never been able to read it. I ordered fish and chips the fish was in a hard crunchy batter that was heavy on the peppery side, but thankfully the fish was flaky. It was served with a side of Parmesan fries aka French fries with a lite sprinkle of Parmesan cheese on them, nothing special at all, not worth the extra $. The bright spot was they had a wonderful musician that was singing and playing a keyboard. I would not visit again based on my experience this one night, there are many better food establishments with ample parking, better food and lighting. This is definitely a place to skip. read more

I am kind of aghast that this place has such a high rating because I think I'm being generous with 2 stars. We came here for dinner for a girls' weekend and yes, the location and view are gorgeous. It's right on the Thames river where you can sit outside on the water and watch the sunset while the ships come in. The night we came, it was busy. No problem. The server was super nice and doing her best to keep up with the crowd. We got our drinks which were tasty and the next time our server came by, we ordered food. And that's where everything went downhill or more like, it fell sharply off a cliff. The food was TERRIBLE. I could make better food at home, and I am at best, a mid-level cook. But my home food would be James Beard worthy compared to this. I'll give them that the queso was good, but separated. My salad was sparse and roughly chopped, the elote pizza was on an uncooked, flavorless crust, and worst of all, my friend's salmon was borderline raw. As Gordan Ramsey would say, "It's about to swim off my *expletive* plate!!" Nor surprisingly, my friend was violently ill later that night. Girls' weekend ruined as I had to drive her an hour home and pray she didn't vomit in my car on the way. The next day, she called to inform the restaurant. They said, "When this happens, we usually give out gift cards." USUALLY?? So food-poisoning is apparently a regular thing around here??? She didn't want a gift card because, uh, we're not going back and it's not super close to us. They doubled-down and refused a refund of $28 so here I am to tell the story of the, "Salmon that destroyed my friend and could have ruined my car." If you are brave enough to go here, I am BEGGING you to only go for drinks and the view...unless you want to kick start your diet with a case of ecoli. read more

Made reservations for 7:30pm utilizing OpenTable. Last reservation was for 8pm. Walked in at 7:15pm and was told they were closed. Weird because the sign on the door said they are open until 8pm and OpenTable accepted the reservation. Other diners were observant and stared at us awkwardly. Humiliated and embarrassed. The situation was handled poorly. Owners? Manager? Turing away paying customers 45 min before close is asinine and a poor business model. Will never go back. Ever. read more

Came here with a few friends on a Friday night and we were sat pretty much right away. I tried the brewhouse burger which had a delicious bacon jam on top. I upgraded the fries to a garlic parm fry but they were hardly garlicky and the fries were a bit soggy. read more

I don't even know how to start this review, there is so much good! I started with the peanut butter & espresso martini which has a delightful rim of I don't know what but it's dammed good and my husband had the Rosemary, Gin Me Martini which smelled as good as it looked and tasted even better!! It was a new menu, which threw me because I have my favorite here but being pushed out of your comfort zone is a good thing! I ordered the Teriyaki Honey Salmon with Parmesan Pea Risotto and crispy carrots and... Oh. My. God. It was amazing. I'm always afraid to order salmon because if it's overcooked it's terrible but this was marvelous, so moist and fork tender, but I shouldn't be surprised because I used to order the winter salad with grilled chicken and the chicken was always juicy and delicious. I may have been inappropriate with my verbal enjoyment of the salmon, (almost Harry Met Sally level enjoyment) but I blame the martini! The Parmesan Pea risotto was also amazing with fresh peas that burst with flavor when you bit into them. My husband got the appetizer charcuterie board and it was massive! I would love to package that up and bring it to a vineyard! Friday and Saturday they have live music which can be a little loud at the bar but they have an enclosed seating area outside where the music is a little more muted but the temperature is still comfortable. The restrooms are enclosed in the seating area and are clean and warm (this matters if you've been to the restrooms at the wharf in the past and had to brave the elements to get there) All in all, in spite of my initial dismay at the menu change (I'm a creature of habit), it was fantastic. Wonderful spot only a few miles away from the casino. Downtown Norwich but easy parking and so worth the trip. Great selection of brews on tap and the food was absolutely delicious. I had the fish and chips but I subbed the special of street corn for my chips and it was so delicious no shortage of crema. My husband had the caprese flatbread that had an over abundance of mozzarella. So overall a wonderful experience. The service was spot on and a very comfortable atmosphere. Had a reservation for Father's Day for 3. When we arrived we were behind a walk-in party of 4. They requested to sit outside and the host told them it could rain, but they still wanted outdoor seating and were sat on the patio among other guests. When it was our turn at the host, we said we had a reservation and would like to sit outside and didn't mind if it rained a little (they had umbrellas and it was only supposed to be a passing sprinkle. She flat out said no - it's going to rain, but we insisted it was ok. There were plenty of patrons dining outside. So she proceeded to sit us at a table with no umbrella away from all other guests. Dropped the menu ls and left. We had our 1 year old so my husband had to go and chase someone down for a highchair. We ask our server for an umbrella (since there were many open tables with one) and she asked that same host - who immediately replied no. We couldn't have an umbrella. We felt like she was treating us poorly on purpose. Which sucked because we chose this spot for Father's Day and she was acting like we were trouble. Parties after us were sat outside no problem. The host was just extremely rude to us. We didn't received side plates or silverware until after our food came. The server was pleasant but rushed. I've been to These Guys a Few times and always have a nice time just catching up with friends in a friendly atmosphere. The people who work there are so kind and sociable. The burgers are truly great. This winter vegetable risotto is definitely worth a try! I've barely had risotto but I swear it's like heaven in your mouth! So good. It is a very small menu which is actually great because it means it's curated and they've focused on a few dishes they know they can do super well. And they do do them super well! The photo is not great cause there are some spots in the place that are super dark but you can tell even in the plating how much care goes into every dish they send out. I love how the risotto is flowing out of the pumpkin. It's not only picture worthy but the pumpkin was yummy too! I always ask at any brewery what their "fave" beers are and choose from that. And I believe I got this lemonade.. shandy or something? So so good! I've never had a beer that's disappointed here to be honest. I really do recommend if you're looking for a calm atmosphere for dinner on a weekday. My next goal is to try their brunch! read more

We stopped in for dinner on one of our nights in the area. After a long day, we were looking for something cool to drink. Mr. B started with the Beautiful Stranger beer and enjoyed it very much. I chose the Papaya Sangria. It was fruity, crisp and cold, the perfect start to dinner. We chose to share the Potato Barrels, and OMG, they were delicious. We thought tator tots, but no, these are potatoes cut to look like a barrel, stuffed with cheddar cheese, beer queso, broccoli and sour cream, topped with crispy onions and then wrapped in bacon. It doesn't get any better. Then we shared the mac and cheese with bacon and topped with crispy bread crumbs. Our server was great, and we were lucky enough to get parking out front. Love the casual setting in this historic building. The high tin ceilings, old fans and mix of high and low tables as well as the bar are perfect for a casual night out. We didn't feel like cooking so we ordered a couple of Thames River Red and some apps. The goat cheese croquettes were crunchy and creamy delicious. I've already left a review for their other location, we finally tried their new one. The American Wharf building is a fantastic venue. It's open and on the water, a wonderful place to eat. These Guys offer a top flight brewery with great food. Carlos, our server was attentive and helpful with the menu. Their beers are excellent with a nice selection, I had a Hefeweizen, my wife, the Queen B, an amber ale. Both were balanced and fresh. The Hefeweizen was light and refreshing, the ale full bodied with a nice bottom, a slightly sweet finish. We started with the vegetable stuffed mushrooms, They were very good, flavorful and satisfying without being too much. I had the hot lobster roll. Lots of meat, on a buttered roll with fries, excellent. My wife had the stout onion soup. Again, very good and well seasoned. Highly recommend for an afternoon or evening. read more

I love an evolving menu! Yes it's a brewing company and while the selection of beer is expected to change, the menu of delicious eats changes as well! I came here because it looked like a welcoming chill atmosphere. I had such a good time. The service was great. The patrons were friendly, and made me wish I lived locally so I could visit all the time! The food was amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection and the presentations gave a fancy upscale vibe. I believe they have a highly skilled chef running the kitchen. Normally I list what I order, but I see that the menu changes so it probably won't be here unless you come like tomorrow lol.
