Beware the high cost of the low interest rate. Customer service is ok for HELOC applications. However be forewarned that the rate quote does not prominently disclose the $275 annual fee, which effectively increases your rate. Once your loan is approved, everything goes downhill. It is impossible to reach anyone by phone - your call goes into a long queue, then you get transferred and disconnected. Chat is probably your best option as nobody responds to secure meesages online. The website was designed during the stone age. If you want to set up autopay that must be done through a manual form. I am very frustrated and disappointed with working with Third Federal on my mortgage. I had to call them to find out that there were paperwork issues with moving my loan forward, and we are 9 days out from close. My loan officer went on vacation. Then, I found out that the person who was supposed to be overseeing it while he was out was also on vacation, and therefore it fell through the cracks. Which is incredibly irresponsible and poor customer service. I have tried to get answers and ahold of other people, and I don't feel like anyone is taking my concerns seriously. read more

Customer Service Unreachable and Useless. I received a letter for the first time on February 8th stating that my hazard insurance information was missing, and I rectified this issue on February 9th. The lady I spoke with on the phone sent me an email with a number and instructed me to reply to the email with the necessary file. After sending her my insurance information, I never received a reply. One month later, I received a FINAL notice repeating the same message but without details. My agent had to call many times to finally speak with someone to understand what the issue was. The lack of detail in the letters, the failure to respond to my email, and the absence of customer support all indicate a significant problem, leading me to decide that I do not wish to be your customer in the future. This is a new low for your company, so disappointing it's unfortunate. read more

Every month I call to check checking account and request to use ATM card in Israel so travel agent can credit my atmcard. It takes a long time to get a real person on phone. Most are unccoperative. They verify and leave me on hold and then usually hand up. It usually takes a hour from abroad and many calls to get anything done. They write me letters answering my complaints and they cover up their terrible attitude and performance. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. I won't go into the experience I had with them today in regards to my 98 year old mom who just got out of rehab, who can barely walk and who I have power of attorney for. No, in order to get an insurance check signed, they insisted I bring her in. It took 40 minutes to get her out of the house and down the stairs. In the end they refused to sign because they said the paperwork wasn't enough...even after talking with her insurance agent. The whole ordeal took 3 hours, no satisfaction, and my mom fell on the way home. This place is heartless. I believe they knew they weren't going to endorse this check immediately, but for some cruel reason they said they needed to see my mom. They closed my home equity line of credit by accident and would not refund the $95 fee and I never used it. horrIble customer service and horrendous attitude. they used to be good but not any longer. there are plenty of other banks or savings and loan. Should have listened to the 1 star reviewers - decisions made by them to refuse insurance document was a big red flag and management does not work with you to resolve. Heloc application due to best rates in first week of February. Submit my documents right away...weeks go by. Call in but never have a direct line...always something else, they never know what is status or who is handling anything. Now mid March... they decide I am ineligible based on my current mortgage payment and debt! All information available from day 1! And my home appraised even higher than expected! What a disgrace of customer service. Shame on me for wasting valuable time on this joke. This is a follow-up review based on the message from the bank owner. This should be informative for people thinking of using this bank and to take serious consideration if the extra charges are something you want to deal with. The first month I used my heloc there was a $133 Finance Charge ON TOP of my principal and interest payments. What is this initiation finance charge you ask? It is not disclosed anywhere on the statement nor was it disclosed before I had set up my heloc account. You won't know what it is, but expect you'll have to pay this too when you start using your heloc. 2nd month, I repaid back my heloc 100% to have zero balance. I called in to make this happen to pay the full amount plus any potential interest between then and my statement. The statement amount was $0.00 after I made my last payment over the phone. Fast-forward to now. Another Finance Charge is posted to my account...out of nowhere... I have not used the account after paying it off completely. There has been a zero balance on my account since I have paid it off. There should be NO finance charge if I am not using any of the funds. The bank owner says most likely because I "withdrew money" from my account which I had already explained I had not, and there is no balance on the account. The bank owner says there is no charge to use your account. I am telling you there is a finance charge you will see on your account on the first day you use your heloc (mine was $133, but it might be different for you depending how much you take out). And it appears there is always a finance charge every month on top of your principal/interest payments given my experience of only using my heloc for 2 months. Since the bank owner doesn't seem to understand and disagrees with all this even though that's what is shown on my statement, given that he doesn't understand what's going on with his bank fees I do not recommend using this bank for your heloc needs. I already have contacted the bank and received no reply regarding this. I am sending out a warning to other future heloc people. These are the extra fees you can expect from this bank. Obviously, they're not a lot, but they are fees nonetheless and they will not be disclosed to you. So here I am disclosing them to you so you can make an educated decision on what's best for you. Absolutely atrocious customer service. Please heed the advice of us who have had a terrible experience. I had a HELOC that was closed due to a personal refinance of my home. The account was locked but not closed for some reason even though I had no access to my credit anymore. They continued to charge me fees for the "frozen account". What exactly am I paying for if I no longer have an open line of credit? I was originally told they understood and recognized that this was of no fault of my own. In my attempt this afternoon to get everything buttoned up, I was then told I had to pay the fees or they would not close the account and leave me open to even more fees. Yes you read that correctly. Either ineptitude or malfeasance amongst the ranks but there must be a better institution to work with. Marc, your company is an embarrassment and is not what it used to be when I originally chose to do business with you. You are the leader of this institution and this falls on you. As a man, you should look in the mirror and truly ask what you see. Enjoy my money. I will spread this experience on every platform I can find. Over the last six weeks I have complied with every information request made by your organization and that includes completing the Mortgage Passport application. Over the last 30 days you requested that my wife and I move into our home so that we could prove that we lived there and we did so but then that wasn't enough. You then sent an appraiser to look at our home and he nitpicked several minor items that had no bearing on the livability or completeness of our home and that stopped the processing of our application. In a subsequent conversation that you and I had you said that you would be able to get a waiver from your underwriting department on these items but that didn't happen. You also told my wife that we would need to provide even more information beyond what was originally requested, like bank statements. We don't get paper statements so the only thing I could furnish you with and did give you, was a 2-month running total of bank balances which referenced check numbers and check amounts. I am beyond frustration dealing with you people so my wife and I have decided take our business to a local bank even though their rates are not as competitive as yours. But then again you can't lose what you didn't have so any comparison between your bank and the one that we're going to use is moot. Since I just threw $325 into the wind and wasted hours of my time dealing with you, Third Federal Savings and Loan can eat the appraisal fee. read more

My money is being held hostage by Third Federal and they don't seem to care at all!!! I have been trying all week to get some of my money out of my savings account with no luck. I know there are limits but I had transferred $0 out of my account in the past 30 days and I couldn't transfer any money (except $3,800) out in spite of the limit being $15,000 per day and $25,000 per month. So I called them on Monda, and Wednesday, and Friday. What a waste of over 2 hours of my time. Twice I was told a manager would call me back and twice they failed to do so. This is ILLEGAL-it violates their funds availability policy and yet they can't seem to fix it. I offered them a simple solution, overnight me a check at their expense-I can only presume they don't even know how to do that! I truly don't think they even care. BOTTOM LINE: DO NOT PUT YOUR MONEY IN THIS FRADULENT BANK!!! P.S. I am sorry to admit that I am enjoying seeing how much of their time I can waste due to their incompetency. Third Fed's "bonus" CD's are a gimmick. You are lured in by a high, short term initial rate. If you average the APR over the entire term, you will find the rate is worse than other banks. Do your homework. You will find better savings at other institutions. read more

I truly wish there was an option for no stars. I have had 4 other mortgage companies between multiple properties before my current loan was bought by Third federal. We had to jump through literal hoops with notary and excessive paperwork to just even set up direct deposit. Then we were charged a late fee more than once because they did not process the paperwork correctly despite many customer service calls to the company. Now they claim we owe them over $2500 for insurance they purchased for our property despite us having email proof that we sent the information to the address they provided to us. We will be seeking a refinance just to get away from this mortgage company. read more

Until my experience with our HELOC in the last two weeks I would have given them a 5/5. Epic fail since. I called about two weeks ago to check on our HELOC checks since we had never used them in 4 years and were looking to buy a truck. Found out we had the wrong ones (we probably got rid of the wrong ones when cleaning. Our fault). At the time I was told we could get a debit card to use with the account. We could use just like the checks. That card came last week (about 10 days). I activated it on 7/20 and added a PIN. Called the 800 number to confirm I would be using it for a 30-40,000 payment on a truck depending on my trade. Assured that I had over 100,000 in equity and would be no problem. Maybe a call to confirm legit purchase. Signed all the papers at the dealer and card declined x2. Dealer kind enough to let us leave with dealer tags and deposit on credit card. Called Third Federal on Monday. Discussed with customer service and a supervisor. Told that there was a 10,000 limit on the card (not what I was told Saturday). Told I could call back on way to dealer on Tuesday and a manager would raise the limit to allow for the purchase on the debit card. Called on way to dealer. Limit was raised and confirmed that I could use debit and my pin. (dealer charges 3% fee on card purchase as many businesses do these days). Get to the dealer and declined again. Called back and spoke to customer service was told they had to reset on their end. Walked through process on line with customer service of putting in card and my PIN and declined again. Placed on long hold and now told that the purchase must go through as a credit card!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. WTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That would have been over a $900 dollar fee. No other options. Asked about overnight checks, wire the money, etc..... Asked to talk with supervisor. Was told could not speak with them. I knew from my call they day before that supervisors had a meeting after 10 and asked rep to get one out of the meeting. NO. Apologized to rep telling her that I knew the false info from prior conversations was not her fault but I wanted to talk with a supervisor (yes I was angry at this point). NO. Then was told I was being mean or nasty and she was going to hang up. So I ended up getting a car loan through dealership. I asked for someone from customer service to call me back yesterday before the call ended. It's 1100 the next day and still no call. Asked them to review the calls I had to confirm what I was told. This bank is an absolute nightmare to work with. I've been attempting to close accounts due to a loved one passing away. The first time they lost the paperwork I had to have notorized. I sent in my last official copy of the death certificate, and they sent it to God knows where after they assured me it would be sent back. I had to have a supervisor involved because they couldn't manage a basic process to which they should be familiar with, and she wasn't that much help either. Do not do business with them. By far our experience working with the Third Federal Savings & Loan team at the Coral Springs, FL location was absolutely the best. Patricia Wolfe was our loan processor, and she was unbelievable. She followed up all phone calls and answered every email the very same day and even worked on weekends to ensure our equity loan was processed efficiently, timely and at the best rate. Absolutely brutal! They used a classic bait-and-switch on me, and I was dumb enough to fall for it. We had been initially approved for a $80K HELOC, and then decided to up the amount to $120K (wife's going back to graduate school). They said, "Sure, no problem at all. You have to just reapply." Hah! They sent out an utterly incompetent appraiser, who submitted an appraisal for $135K UNDER the fair market value as determined by previous and reliable sources. Heck, my next door neighbor's house was appraised in May of 2018 for $400K! Same builder, same upgrades (except for their finished basement), with slightly less exterior maintenance on their house, and our appraisal was $235K less. I would have NEVER given up the initial $80K HELOC - and certainly never have wasted my time reapplying - if I hadn't been told by our loan officer that the physical appraisal was just a "formality". In retrospect, I'm kind of glad this deal fell through before I actually pulled anything from the HELOC. Who knows what kind of shenanigans they would have pulled after they had us on the hook! read more

Worst experience every. This is a very small summary of what happened. If you have time to waste, go for it. They will not get you approved for a refinance. I spoke to several reps. There was no one person of contact. They are unorganized. They lose paperwork. I had to stay on top of them to get things done. They wasted over 2 months of my time. They said they didn't trust my numbers. They said this out loud. I went to their bank to show them proof after they kept asking for the same work over and over. Also, The appraisal was way lower than normal and my square footage was smaller than ever. Then claimed to have denied me over debt to income. My debt to income is fine. Third Federal left me at the closing table with no one to answer my questions about the HELOC and the paperwork in front of me. I tried to have these questions answered days before the signing although I was simply brushed and told "Its in the documents". The signing agent tried to reach Third Federal via 3 separate phone numbers to get answers to my questions although was unsuccessful. After 1 hour of waiting, the signing had to be cancelled as no one from Third Federal was able to get back with us. Its been a week since the failed signing and Third Federal has just reached out about the failed signing and has yet to answer my questions about the documents despite several phone calls and emails. Please avoid wasting time with this bank if you can, the low interest rates are NOT worth the terrible customer service and unclear documents when dealing with large sums of money. read more

This bank is not user friendly. They will take your money and payments electronically but claim they can only receive as they do not have the ability to transfer externally. Being in the IT industry supporting banks this is not a true statement! It is a blatant LIE! They choose to not allow this making it an inconvenience to their customer. Get a HELOC at your own risk. Third Federal does not make it easy to use the funds you set up to use. As more and more places are requiring transfers and not checks they are behind the times. We started out HELOC application early February, and submitted all our documents in a very timely manner. Expected the process to take 60 to 90 days, and the web site said so. Finally closed on May 14th., but we are still waiting (June 9th.) to be able to access funds. Cant get any checks or anyone to give us a straight answer. Whoever you get on the phone gives You a different answer. People appear poorly trained and no supervision over process of work. What good is it to get a good rate, but can't use funds read more

Used this bank for a 2nd mortgage to save a little money, but their systems are from like the 1980's. Can't login to their online banking system, nor can you reset your password having them call you (no texting). The security will lock you out if you get the password wrong a couple times, with no option to reset anything online. Customer service will refuse to assist you unless you follow their antiquated rules. REFUSE. Who does that? If there are any transactions need to mail them physical documents, even for simple things. NO EMAILING, cause they apparently have never heard of the internet. If you are not physically in Cleveland Ohio, it's honestly all very much a pain in the rear. If you enjoy banking using out-dated computer systems from the 1980's, perhaps you will enjoy your experience. We did not. read more

I make over 6 figures, don't pay a lot of W2 as most of my income are from distribution. processed took about 3 months from application to denial based on income. kept asking for more and more stuffs. and ended up denying on income. Applied for HELOC based on good reviews and information I got from the loan officer I talked to on the phone. I was concerned about my debt-to-income ratio & wanted to know what ratio they accept. Officer gave me some numbers which fell within my range so I proceeded with the full application. Had hard credit pull, appraisal done, sent all requested info in and application went to underwriting. I was denied 3 weeks later as they said their acceptable DTI ratio was no higher than 36%. Of course, they couldn't understand why the first guy told me something different. And the loan officer that actually worked on my app could have easily crunched the numbers before passing it onto underwriting or even pulling credit. What a waste of their time and my time. And now my previous excellent credit has gone down. They really looked like a great company - I am very disappointed. read more
