We love staying at a B&B rather than a chain hotel when we can. We took advantage of the Crayola Experience package, which is offered for either of the two-room suites that accommodate up to four guests. The main room has a King. The second room (more or less a sitting area on the way to the bathroom) has a twin with a trundle that can accommodate two kids. The package can be booked for a single night and includes admission tickets for up to four people, a Crayola gift pack for each kid, and a tray of snacks. Ours included some fabulous homemade peanut butter cookies! We booked two nights (the additional night was less than the first with the package). As a family of three we basically broke even on the additional package price vs. buying our own tickets, gift, and snacks. But this is vacation and to have that all taken care of plus the fun surprise for our daughter waiting in the room made it more than worth it. Lafayette has a comfortable, family feel. The wrap-around porch was a great place to sit (and run if you're a toddler) and everyone made my daughter feel welcome. By the second day she was calling it "our new house." The breakfast menu for the next day was posted in foyer each night. We had made-to-order omelets with choice of bacon or sausage each morning with different fresh fruit and homemade baked goods each day. Yogurt, cereal, and a variety of breads were also available. There were to-go cups for coffee along with mugs. Pastries plus coffee, tea, hot chocolate, whole fruit, and sodas were available all the time in the parlor. Having a DVD player in the room allowed us to have a family movie night. We brought our own, but the front desk also had lots to borrow. Only wish we had had some popcorn!

The decor was very cool and interesting. It had classy vibes but on a budget which is exactly the types of places I enjoy going for drinks. 4 of us hung out there and had 2 rounds each and I was floored with how reasonable the pricing was! I almost didn't want to write this review so that no one else would go and I could keep this little gem of a bar to myself! Everything was also clean and kept. There was a small annoyance however. In our particular room there was an air conditioner right at the ceiling above the bed which had a very bright blue light. There was no way to turn it off unless you turned the AC off, so if you're anything like me and need it to be dark, bring a mask or something. My husband even said "I feel like we're on the moon..."

Gratitude to my niece who we asked for a recommendation of where we should eat for a nice meal to celebrate my husband, after a big achievement. She has lived here for three years and as a trained nutritionist and chef herself. She said the only place you should go is the Woolverton Inn and its New Restaurant. She will be receiving a gift! Lastly, I was so overwhelmed upon entering the restored barn that I forgot the name of the elegant man who received us with such grace. We just got back from a weekend at Frog Hollow and while the house and grounds are still fantastic there were a few minor miscues and one major problem overall that likely will lead to us never returning. 1. When I called to make the reservation I spoke at length with Mitch while he went entirely into TMI territory in regards to Patti's father (I really don't need to hear about catheters, infections, and his entire medical file when I'm calling to make a simple reservation) and to me that is just bizarre seeing we are not family and we had only been to their B&B one time prior for only one night so we are not even friends. We barely know them and they barely know us but yet I'm getting the whole medical file and history? 2. During this call he asked if there was anything for breakfast that we did not want to see and I let him know that we both disliked mushrooms immensely. We'll I'll be damned if for breakfast this past weekend he didn't make omelets that had mushrooms in them our first morning. My wife being the trooper and demure person that she is decided to eat most of them to be nice where as I disassembled the omelet to pick out all of the offending fungi. Why ask what we don't like if you're going to serve it anyway? It's a three room B&B not the 1949 room Marriott Marquis in Times Square. It shouldn't be that hard to keep track of guests requests, likes, and dislikes. 3. Mitch has an Alpha Male attitude problem. Meaning that if certain topics are discussed he is completely not afraid to show his disdain/displeasure for your itinerary or in particular the place you went to dinner that evening. We had gotten back on Saturday night and after he asked where we went I mentioned that we had gone to particular touristy spot amongst our travels because it held some sentimental value for us and his reaction was to scrunch up his face and very condescendingly ask "Why" while shaking his head. Duh you douchebag, I just explained why. The place in question holds meaning for us. Maybe it doesn't for you, great. And if it doesn't shut your mouth and be hospitable. I've been in the hospitality industry a whole lot longer than him and if I were to question guests and pass judgement on their dinner plans, itineraries, etc. like Mitch does I would offend a whole lot people the same way how he offended me with that and also with his constant pining need to be right and to jump in and interrupt where ever he feels it's appropriate to add his opinion as he did on more than one occasion when I was speaking with Patti. I guess maybe if we were more like most of their regular clientele in that we were over 55, have either grown kids or no kids, or be successful wealthy yuppies instead of more blue collar folk than maybe we would have been seen as "worthy" and not have gotten talked at or down to by him on a few occasions this weekend. But enough of the rant. I guess it's one of those things where you had to be there. Breakfast on day two with fruit parfaits, sausage, and ricotta pancakes was much better and that's not only because it was mushroom free. Overall the location, house, and grounds at Frog Hollow are superb. While Patti tries her best to be hospitable and to show interest in her guests it was clear to me early on this visit that Mitch either somehow did not like me/us or because we were not his age/status/economic peers he was just going to be sour and that's fine because it's their house and he can say what he wants the way he wants in his house. But obviously we will vote with our wallet and that very likely will not include any future stays at Frog Hollow due to an inhospitable and cranky owner.

They even put out yummy snacks & nice notes for their guests, to enable them to feel like family. The place is right off the river & as wonderfully scenic as one could get, while being in Milford, which is also a plus, since it is such a nice little town to wander through, with plenty of places to eat out & enjoy. All the people are so very friendly. We would love to stay here again, soon, however, when my wife called, they were all booked up till after Christmas.

We stayed in Room 10 which features a king size bed and a large soaking tub. The bed was comfortable, clean, and the bathroom was sizable. We always felt like there was a lot of space to unwind and relax when we were in our room. We were offered the Fall menu when we were there. On day 1 I had the apple crumble French toast (AMAZING) and I'm not even a big French toast guy. Your table has fresh orange juice, water, and coffee/tea when you come down and get seated. Loved this. On day 2 I had the traditional breakfast and enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff was friendly and accommodating - as expected from a well run B&B. We were on site for a small gathering of gamer friends and so I also tried some of their offerings in the small cafe. I tried Italian wedding soup for lunch and got several hot tea drinks. All excellent. They have a small "snack room" near the main entrance that has popcorn, and water, coffee maker, and other small amenities to make your stay more enjoyable. Overall, this was one of the most visitor-focused B&B we've had the pleasure of staying in. It sounds obvious to say that, but it his place really puts your money to work to make you enjoy your stay.
