The only way out of pain is through - a good therapist makes it bearable. Therapy is hard and often painful. My husband and I worked with Alan for a few years in both personal and couples counseling. His warmth and humanity fosters an openness that makes it safe to be who you are, feel what you feel, and speak your truth, without fear of judgement. He was a guide, who walked with us through the rocky terrain of our issues, hurt and pain. As we instinctively replayed the events of our lives, he slowed the pace, encouraging us to mindfully name and explore the feelings that arose, which led to a new experience of the same old events. Eventually, it became apparent that as we repeat the patterns in our lives and/or marriage, we reinforce the stories we tell ourselves and our attachment to their meanings ... and become less able to see the forest from the trees. While the outcome was not what I had imagined, it created growth, altering the trajectory of my focus and experience resulting in less pain and more peace. While the work was mine, Alan put me on the path.

From our first meeting until 14 months later from her passing I have been seeing Lindsey from bi-weekly to bi-monthly now. I am so thankful and grateful that I had her to turn to. Therapy in itself has enriched my life in ways I KNEW it would because I opened my heart and mind to it.
