There are two prior reviews on this mortuary that are negative. I feel compelled to not only write…read morean extremely positive review but to try to correct some of the misinformation others stated. From the moment my mother-in law died the staff of the mortuary guided us through the whole process. From telling us to call EMS first, to sending two extremely professional gentlemen to remove the body back to the mortuary, every effort was made to comfort and advise the family and to explain every step in the process. We had long ago decided to cremate our family members and the mortuary guided us through every step in the process. I don't know how many people understand the legalities that must be observed with every death, but especially with a cremation. The coroner has to give permission to release the body to the funeral home when it was a home death. He has to decide that there are no nefarious or illegal circumstances. Then a death certificate must be issued and all,( 100 per cent) of the survivors( spouse and all listed children ) must sign that they agree with the cremation. Someone commented negatively on the costs but the family is given a very clear and explicit listing of the costs charged for every available service. The funeral /and or services can be as expensive and ostentatious as the family desires or as simple and uncomplicated as the family desires, it is absolutely up to the family. Unlike my prior expectations and perceptions there was no pressure to do anything other than what the family wished. We were presented with a very thorough list of available services and allowed to select what we wished. This facility is in almost constant use and really doesn't have the option of closing for renovations for long periods of time. The suggestion that they should move to acquire a bigger lot is almost ludicrous given the way that Greenville is growing and developing. The land the facility sits on is probably extremely valuable there on Augusta Road but it would probably be economic suicide to up and move the mortuary to say ,Five Forks or Travelers rest. The community they serve and the clientele they serve would not be well served by such a move. We would like to commend young Mr. Garrett, and Leah for carrying on the proud legacy left by their parents and commend them for their caring attitude to the grieving families. Thank you Watkins Garrett and Woods Mortuary. The family of Naomi Mozelle Hubert White.

Update to my previous experience. Please avoid this company at all cost unless you are paying cash…read morein full. Although MY BANK and I resolved my issues, with ZERO help from Graceland manager until after we had canceled the checks, I think it's interesting to note these FACTS. I have 3, yes 3 different contracts with different amounts. This shows you, that you are very much overpaying for their services and products. The first contract had my total at 5363.99. For an opening and closing, and a vault. When I brought this to their attention, the second contract was 5095.A difference of 268.99. After I started paying on the 2nd contract and Graceland lost the funds (5 payments of 424.65) I canceled the 2nd contract and requested a new contract as the second one was convoluted. So on the 3rd contract the total amount as 5079.65. I also during this time, BEFORE I stopped payment on my 5 checks, got an invoice from Graceland reflecting that a payment of 424.65 had been made to my account leaving me a balance of 4670.35. So, if none of my 5 checks had been cashed or deposited, WHO'S money did they apply to my account? Like I stated previously, these people lie and make excuses. The General manager when I first spoke to him LIED and then tried to deny what he had stated. However, I have a very reputable witness, who heard him tell this lie, it was my son's DDSN case worker who was here for a home visit. So to recap. When I got the invoice stating only 1 payment out of 5 was applied to my account. I started making phone calls and sending emails. I provided Graceland with statements from my bank, I printed up and drove directly to Graceland and handed them actual proof many times, Graceland NEVER ONCE SHOWED ME ANY PROOF the money was sent back, (because it wasn't). Graceland all of them lie, and the owner hides behind them, you can't reach the owner. Something as SERIOUS as what happened to me, 2123.25 taken out of my account and sent to Graceland that they admitted they received, then lied and said they sent it back. I have ASKE WHY? They couldn't answer, because they HAD NOT sent it back. I truly regret buying grave plots at this unethical, unprofessional, business, where lying is a requirement and the owner hides behind the liars. Graceland is a disgusting Cemetery, trashy, and not a place you would want your loved one, funny how Graceland will talk so sweet when you come in to buy and stab you in the back as you leave. Read the google reviews as well as Yelp. Different complaints, different people, but all say basically the same things I endured, Hundreds of people who don't know each other saying basically the same issues/complaints against Graceland.

My Father, who is 95 was so impressed by the professional way everything was handled from beginning to end. My Father was once the District Plant Manager for Timken, and so he is very detail oriented. My Mother Passed July of 2025 in a skilled nursing facility, and when the kind men came to get her at 4:00 am dressed respectfully in suits they gave us time to say our goodbyes. The following day my Father and Brother were able to select all the things we needed as a family to make a lovely celebration of Life. The Funeral Home is beautiful and we were able to have a tribute playing on a screen with 80 pictures and music. The organist who also has an amazing voice did an outstanding job. We were allowed to use tables in the different areas to display pictures and memorabilia to celebrate Mom's life. Everything went beautifully and on schedule. There was plenty of parking for our guests, clean bathrooms, kleenex and sanitizers in every room for the guests. All of the kind folks there listened to our needs and carried everything out to perfection. We will continue to use Woods in our family and highly recommend it to anyone in search of a Funeral Home. Sincerely, Christine Power

As you may recall, South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union and fought for the Confederacy. As such, you'll find a large number of Confederate soldiers laid to rest here in Springwood. And since it's Veteran's Day weekend, those graves are marked with Confederate flags. It's... interesting. The historical marker here tells more history. On the front, "Begun in 1812 as a single grave in a family rose garden, this was a private burial ground before being deeded to the City of Greenville and opened to the public in 1829. Its founder was Chancellor Waddy Thompson, Sr. The name "Springwood Cemetery" came into use in the 1870s and likely refers to a nearby natural spring. The landscape was formally laid out in 1876 and designed by architect Gottfried Norman." And on the reverse, "Springfield Cemetery is one of the oldest municipal graveyards in the state. More than 10,000 people are buried here, a quarter of them in unmarked graves. Occupants range from prominent Upstate leaders to Greenvillians of more modest stations, a diversity reflected in the variety of ornamentation used to mark the cemetery's gravesites. Springwood was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2005." The cemetery is in pristine condition. The lanes are easily walkable, the grass is clipped and the greenery is maintained very well. This is a lovely cemetery and worth a visit as it's located very close to the city center.
