Seven months ago I was badly injured after being thrown from my horse, breaking my lower back, compressing several vertebrae, severely damaging my neck and sustained a severe concussion. Ever since I have been in excruciating, debilitating pain that has prevented me from returning to school, work and physical activities. After seven months of crippling pain, visiting 5 other chiropractors (including one of the most popular chiropractic offices in SCV), physical therapists, cervical specialists, several visits to the ER, urgent care, assessments by neurologists, numerous visits to my primary care physician, I have FINALLY found relief from my pain! Based on the number of positive reviews, I am sure Dr. Polucki is an effective chiropractor, but I was very upset and disappointed by my interaction with him. It is my hope that others with chronic health issues that are desperately seeking answers and are exhausted emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially, take note and proceed with caution. I made an appointment to try PEMF. Dr. Polucki initially seemed very empathetic and compassionate as we discussed my symptoms, many of which I have dealt with for decades, the medical debt that I have accrued from various appointments, tests, treatments, and therapies, and my current state of health. Dr. Polucki told me he didn't believe that the diagnoses I received from all of the previous practitioners was the root cause of my neurological symptoms (which I agree with and why I am still searching for answers). During our conversation he also told me I was doing everything right and shouldn't be impaired in the way I am by my symptoms and he had the answer for me. He told me he could get me at least 60% better. After the two PEMF appointments, Dr Polucki suggested I return for a consultation so we can discuss what he feels is the issue and his proposed treatments. He attempted to guide me from the owner login of his google listing to his list of services (not sure why these aren't on his website) and the cost of treatments so I could go home and read about what he offers. I appreciated this, but unfortunately, I was unable to locate this from the visitor page. So, here I am the day of the consultation unsure of the treatments he offers, what his actual diagnosis is, and the costs that will be associated with treatment, but I figured this would all be discussed during the consultation, so I didn't need to worry much about it. When making the appointment, I forgot to ask about the cost of the consultation, so called his office staff (both of whom were very sweet and pleasant), to ask the cost so I would know what to expect. His wife was not sure how much the consultation would cost and told me she would have the other lady that works in the office call back with the price. A short bit later I received a call from Dr. Polucki. Immediately he said I seemed more concerned with medical debt than getting better (which is incredibly heartless if you are at all familiar with the plight of those suffering from chronic conditions that have spent huge amounts of money on high-interest credit cards, unable to work enough due to the chronic condition, and still unwell....EVERY SINGLE CENT counts). He then said he didn't want to waste either of our time on a consultation with that being the case! I was so taken aback! I explained that I had been looking forward to the consultation and was feeling hopeful about what he had to offer me, I just wanted to know what to expect. He went on to ask me to rate on a scale of 1 to 10 how serious I was about getting well to which I replied, "Well I am still pursuing answers decades later, so I would say a 10." He then asked how a friend would rate me as far as being coachable (had to laugh at this one). I said "Do you want to know how compliant I am? [with a chuckle]" I told him "I am a critical thinker and want all of the information before I make decisions and I don't blindly follow doctor's orders, but if I feel confident in the treatment and find the doctor credible I am totally compliant." He then asked what would allow me to feel he is credible. I replied that I want to know what the actual treatments are, I would love to be provided with links to research, and to be able to speak to other clients that have the same constellation of symptoms I have and have experienced positive results. He then said I have someone right here you can talk to, which raises HIPPA concerns if he is discussing my case in front of other patients. In essence, what it came down to is he was asking me to make a commitment to work with him without a consultation, without knowing the diagnosis, the treatments he proposes, or the cost! He was very hostile and aggressive when I wouldn't simply put my faith in him when so many times before I have done this, without meaningful results. If he has ever worked with chronic illness patients he should understand this. I even explained what has happened to me in the past and one would think that this would evoke some sort of compassion on his part, sadly it didn't. I certainly could have worked around his social deficits as many brilliant people do possess deficits in this area, but I could not accept his hostility or lack of compassion. As soon as I told him I didn't feel comfortable going in for the consultation because of his tone during our phone call and because he expected me to make a commitment without having the slightest clue what treatments he offers, he abruptly said "Ok, goodbye, and hung up the phone." So I guess I can now add unprofessional to the list of red flags. read more

As we all know this 2020 pandemic has taken a toll on all of us. I am a fitness instructor and working at home has been a challenge. Avoid this guy! Gives legit chiro's a bad reputation. Everything seems nice on first impression. However, this is not my first rodeo. I suffer from a chronic upper cervical pain condition. The only thing I ever heard from him "we" do things "differently" what is it you ask, well it can only be explained after I choose to accept you as a patient. (red flag #1) After I provided hm historical images from primary care, we met again. We watched a dumb video from the 90's on my condition. Gee I don't think i've seen such info before..lol. Ok, I can treat you after he reviewed my images he says. Now here comes the pitch. The treatment is "comprehensive" and I can't explain fully to you...yet. You must sign up for 15 months of treatment and pay in ADVANCE! $4100! But what is it that you actually will be doing?.....He literally held the "proposal" in his hand and was very reluctant to give to us until we gave him an answer. Ultimately he only allowed us to take a picture of the first page...which didn't say much at all. A lot about supplements I must use as part of the regimen. We asked for a day to think it over and the dude came off as we have a lot of nerve to think it over. Last week I woke up with numbness in my hand and severe pins and needles and extreme pain if i touched anything at all. I also had a muscle spasm in my neck and back. From the moment you walk through the door, you feel that this is going to be different than what you expect. Dr. Polucki's office has an Asian decor that is warm, rich and relaxing if not slightly out of pace in a Santa Clarita chiropractic office. The front desk reception is out in the open and you sigh in on an I-pad. In all the times I've gone there, I've never waited more than 5 minutes and while I like to be treated in the open area, where I've made some lasting friends with other patients, I have seen some people who prefer their treatment in the private room. I like that you get a brief exam on every visit and I've noticed that every person gets their own treatment based on what they need that day. Some chiropractors I've been to, in the past, treated me exactly the same way, every visit and I think they teated every person that same way too, from what I could see. But again, my experience with Dr. Polucki has been different. When I first went there, I wasn't able to sleep for more than a couple hours at a time, I had been hospitalized and heavily medicated, but I still was not sleeping and my life was falling apart. A friend recommended Dr. Polucki, but when I found out he was a chiropractor, I didn't want to go because I had just recently tried a local chiropractor, who was charming but didn't help me at all. After a few more attempts by my caring friend, who had also been to the chiropractor that I had tried and told me that Polucki was very different, I agreed to try chiropractic one more time. My consultation with Dr. Polucki was different. He asked me a few questions, listened to my answers and then asked a few more questions. He explained that the first visit was going to be about finding out why after all I'd been through I was still not better. He did a brief exam, like a nurse would be at any doctor's office and then he started feeling and measuring my back. I have pretty severe scoliosis ever since I was a teenager and at times the back spasms are really bad. He told me that the scoliosis could not be corrected, which I knew, but he said he believed he could improve my posture, especially how I leaned forward and if he could improve my posture, the spasms and the sleeping would improve. I was skeptical but desperate for relief, so I agreed to give him five visits to see how it was going to work for me. The first treatment was unlike anything I'd had before. There was no hot pack, TENS or vibrator, there was no massage or twisting or cracking. He just measured my posture a couple of different ways then I got up on the table and he pushed some spots on my back and neck with what I can only describe as a baby Heimlich procedure. Then he had me rest there for a few minutes and while I didn't feel anything with the "adjustment" I did start to feel a warm relaxing feeling in my back while I was laying there. When I got up he measured my posture again and it was a lot better. I could feel it and I started to cry. He hugged me and told me that everything was going to be okay, and for the first time, in a long time, I believed it would be. I went home that night and slept for four hours, that's more than I was able to sleep even with medication. By the end of the week I was sleeping six hours and for the first time in my adult life I woke up and it was light outside. I don't know how it is possible, but I am grateful that my friend made me see him, he saved my life and I can only hope that if you have some reservation about chiropractic, as I did, you can put it aside for a week to see what can be possible for you with the right chiropractor. read more
