Helpful, friendly staff, very clean, great equipment for the price. Crowded at times but people are generally friendly.

Had a really positive experience here. Dropped in for a quick workout while staying at the great wolf lodge (easy 10 minute drive). ~$10 for a day pass, which seemed very reasonable. Equipment was clean and well maintained. Loved the pictures of former members on the wall. Lot's of free weights, including two power racks with good quality barbells and bumpers. In early January I complained to the staff about the cleanliness of the mens locker room and showers . I mentioned the same soap and dirt was found in those areas multiple days in a row. This was finally addressed. In late January I spoke to staff member about locker room and sauna cleanliness. There were broken tiles on the sauna floor and the same trash for over a week. I return a couple days later to find the same issues. I also smashed my finger in the sauna door after the handle was re-attached too close to the door jamb. The person inside had also smashed his fingers. I mentioned this to the front desk as I left. On my next visit I smashed my hand again causing a small cut and bruising to my fingers. I reported this injury to the front desk and asked that a manager reach out to me. I left 2 voicemails for management at the Chehalis location and did not receive a return call. I stopped going for a few weeks and never heard back. My last visit was no different than the rest. The door handle was still in a poor location, I watched the guy that came in after me smash his fingers. The shower was filthy with trash, mold on the shower curtain and the locker room smelled like vomit. I mentioned all of this to the front desk and that management had not returned my calls. He took down my information and ensured a manager would call me back. I told him I had no interest in continuing my membership and to end it. Then my card was charged again while I was in Canada for a month. When I returned I went in and inquired why I was charged and she said because my membership was still active. I was pretty upset and cancelled it again with her. I told her I wasn't leaving until I had something in writing stating it was cancelled. She proceeded to cancel my membership on the computer having me sign the kiosk twice. When I asked her what I was signing she said the cancellation paperwork and she would print me copies. After signing she proceeded to tell me that I would still be charged for another month because it was 10 days before renewal. I was never informed of any such policy and it is very poor practice to have people sign documentation they cannot read first, possibly illegal. Then she handed me two slips of papers with only my signature, not anything in writing as to what I signed. Again, possible illegal. I told her absolutely not, I had already cancelled it once a month prior, had injury, and was completely disappointed in management involvement of customer complaints. Since then I have left two more voicemails for management and no return calls. Now my card was attempted to ge charged twice for over $75. read more

The wife and I are new to the area and we needed quick gym access for two days. Day passes are $10 per person - pretty standard. Unfortunately, both days, there is no staff present at the front desk. On the first day, one gym member helped us hunt down somebody so we can PAY and sign some waiver forms. I'm writing this review while I search and wait for someone to take my money. The members are friendly and I love the fact that they have boxing equipment. Restrooms are decent but with a faint smell of urine. Gym equipment (machines and free weights) seems pretty dated but there is a large number of them for variety - I kinda like that since It makes me all nostalgic. Oh, Staff finally rolled in. It is what it is for one of the only gyms in a small town. I've been going to Thorbecks since I was in college about 3 years ago. Pricing is WAY too high, especially since Centralia is filled with minimum wage workers who can barely even afford it. I enjoy it to see people I know and again, because it's literally the only gym unless I want to drive clear to Tumwater or Olympia. The Centralia facility is run down. Mats are ripped, chipped paint, broken machines. It's sad compared to their Chehalis facility. Management/Owners are nonexistent really, and don't seem to care much about their employees. I know a handful of people who have worked there. Never a positive, sadly. Snow, flood, ice, doesn't matter, they beg their employees to risk their lives to come in just to say hello to people and move on. But the management wouldn't dare. It's incredible, really. Especially since most their staff is so young. But, all of their underpaid workers are seriously the best! So helpful, kind and friendly! Another negative is the fact that CHILDREN, literally elementary/middle school aged kids are allowed to roam freely? I respect letting everyone better themselves, but kids running around isn't really pleasing when you're trying to workout. I really didn't want to make this review so negative, but there aren't a ton of positives aside from it being one of the only gyms around. You spend about $50+ a month for a few machines, but the plus side is they have a few classes at the Centralia facility. All the action happens at Chehalis though, unfortunately. You do have access to both, but some people with busy schedules can't make time to drive to Chehalis. It is what it is. I think owner/management could be more present and make their customers notice they actually care about fitness and their facility and not just money, but again, it is what it is. Hope to see it grow more someday because I truly believe it has potential, and I will continue to go until something better opens or I decide to finally make the commute to better, but thought I'd give my honest opinion. read more

This is a huge gym. Easily the biggest one I have been in. I had first entered through the swimming pool entrance and was directed to the "main" part of the building through a lengthy hallway and exercise rooms. The attendant at the desk was pretty busy when I was inquiring about a membership but she was patient, and knowledgeable about the facility. Membership is an average price but you get a lot for the money. Lots of programs, a good sized pool, huge weight room(s) across two floors, bikes, rowing machines, treadmills, you name it. I discovered a sauna for the first time here and was like "where you been all my life!" They have a steam room also but it is broken half the time, and between that and the fact that even with all the space you can have difficulty finding an open treadmill when it is even moderately busy, I gave it 4 stars. read more

Terrible business practices. Having signed a business lease in a nearby town I was excited to find a local gym, to get back into swimming. I inquired via phone, was told a sign-up special was expiring end of that day, Feb 28, 2021, so I dropped what I was doing to take advantage and drove 1.5hours for the sole purpose of that promotion. Signed up for a month to month membership, told I could 'cancel any time'. March 28, paid $44.00 for month, had never used the gym (still have never). Sadly my business changed a few weeks later. Called Thorbecks on April 19 2021 and informed them I'd never used the gym, and needed to cancel because I wasn't moving to town after all. Person on phone said I needed to come in person, I explained 1.5hour drive, whereupon he said he had to inform 'membership' or 'accounting' or some department. Today, April 28, was charged another $44. Went back to read the email correspondence, realizing now they send from a 'noreply' email, AND there is no name given of a person OR a department of any kind to take responsibility. Their only solution is to call the same number that didn't help me in the first place. I'm disappointed as I had high hopes for what seamed like a good 'family run business' that would understand my situation. Sadly it's a money game with no regard for customers who take the bait, and apparently they put their name on the building but hide behind anonymity when stealing from their 'customers'. I'll happily pay for a month (already paid Mar 28) as I signed up in good faith, and they have a cost associated with signing up a member. I'm not asking for anything for free. This review is zero star for saying I could cancel any time, zero for not being able to help me on the phone, and stupidity they don't put a name or email on their correspondence. I was so excited to hear that the pool was bought out by new owners (managers- yes, I'm aware that the city actually owns the pool and Thorbeckes just manages it)! No, I do not recommend this place! They were closed and still charging people fees. I was told I could get a refund by the front staff. Three days later, I was told only a credit. Then their back of house accounting wanted to argue on the phone with me. Not professional at all, I did ask to speak to higher up. Funny never received a call. So I have 2 1/2 months credit that I will not be used with them. read more

This is a great gym!! They did a good job of staying safe during the last stage of covid. It is very well organized and not too crowded. The people working there are very kind and genuine. The bathrooms are super nice, the machines are easy to use, and it's always a good time!! read more

Thorbecke's is an institution in Lewis County. I had not even moved to the area and my office had already purchased me a three-month membership gift card. The facilities and equipment are functional and varied. You are never going to sit around wishing you had "X" or "Y" machine. Thorbeckes has enough equipment to work every muscle group. . . and some you did not know you even had. Although I don't take advantage, Thorbeckes has daycare while you are working out, a large lap pool, and offers numerous MMA, Zumba, and other classses. The staff is friendly 24-hours a day. They are attentive, respectful, and always professional. The gym gets pretty busy around 4:30 and it does not ease up until about 7:00, so try to adjust your workout schedule. Mornings and lunch breaks are clear sailing around Thorbeckes. Wish list: More treadmills and less highschool kids bumbling around the weight room. read more

This is a fantastic gym and the staff is very friendly. I explained to the receptionist that I'm military from Texas, visiting family and I was allowed to able to get a good workout here. They have all the equipment necessary for a good lift. Cardio, weight training and sauna is broken down into different sections and the environment was quiet and friendly. I greatly appreciate businesses who support our service members and I would definitely recommend this fitness center for people who live in this area read more

Read the fine print. I never thought this awesome place would become a money trap. But somehow they did for me. I wrecked my car a while back and fell on some of the hardest times of my life. Ive always been good with paying my bills, if I couldn't I made sure I got the money somehow or talked to whoever I owed the money to. All of the services I use are amazing at helping customers who are in tight spots who have been consistent in payments, I make sure they are because I'm young and have to stand on my own a lot and don't want to get myself in debt. But thorbecks....they're greasy and I found that out the hard way tonight. I called them after I got in said wreck asking to cancel my membership immediately. They said I needed to come in and sign a paper, even though I made it clear over the phone I couldn't and they'd have to mail it because I had no way to get there without my car or my job that I lost with my car. But they didn't listen. Instead they sent my number to a financial collection agency i had never heard of that called upwards of 3 times a day and resembled a robo caller scam, telling me in vague terms to get in and sign the paper or I'd owe them money. No one listened when I said I literally had no way of doing this, please mail it, I'll sign it and send it back. Eventually I got fed up with it and blocked the number. Even though I blocked it, I set it up in my phone to still pop up in my notifications if they called. It remained a ridiculous amount of calls for a while, then it dwindled. Then it went to nothing. And I forgot about it amongst trying to turn my life back around and get back on my own two feet. I'm almost there, ready to leave for school, about to do things I've wanted to do for a long time, I'm literally ready, and I get a letter in the mail from thorbecks saying I owe them $100 by the end of next week regardless of whether or not I've used their facility since the whole drama started or they will send my account to collections who will then take $167.63 out for thorbecks and themselves whether I consent or not. I'm FAR from happy. I feel taken advantage of and poorly treated, swindled honestly. They don't even get a half a star in my book, if I have the choice to not give any on a review I won't. Yes it was my fault for not getting in to sign the contract, but at this point they're not giving me an out or an opportunity to stand up for myself (not that they'd listen anyway) and never once tried to work with me on it. I'm in the hole at LEAST $100, and sooner than I'll have it to spend. I'm 18, new to the world, and thorbecks of all places, not a bank, not a loan, is the first establishment to teach me about debt first hand. So I guess just go into this knowing what I did wrong and knowing the kind of people work in the financial department so this crap doesn't happen to you. READ THE FINE PRINT read more

I'm there everyday. Great gym. Well managed. And there's a full sized swimming pool. I do about a half a mile lap swim every day.

Thorbecke's staff is the rudest, unfriendliest bunch of people I have ever met. I payed for months and didn't even go so when I went to cancel my memebership they said it has to be thirty days and it was 29 days, one day and they said too bad you will have to pay another month. I could not believe how rude the girl was, I have lived in chehalis my whole life and I have known Dale the owner since High school he is a great guy, but his staff is not at all!!!!!! I guess they are happy as long as they can squeeze as much money out of you as they can. I plan on living in lewis county for the rest of my life and i will never go back to thorbecke's or recommend it to anyone ever!!!!! Sorry Dale you have such horrible staff. I also have alot of family here and none of them will ever go there either, you don't need our money right. read more
