While their chocolates are tasty and their shop is really neat and they have a great and diverse selection of chocolates, I am very disappointed with how they boxed the chocolates I purchased for my mom for Mothers' Day. I selected a pound of various chocolates to get exactly what I wanted plus to avoid any possibility of the pre-packaged assortments being stale. These pre-packaged boxes however looked beautiful and all the chocolates were laid out neatly, with plastic wrap covering them so you could see what was inside. I figured the staff would place the chocolates I chose into a similar box and with as much care. Instead, to my horror when I opened the box at home, she had just thrown them into the box! You can see this in the photo attached. It upset my mom and is not the caliber of service you expect from a shop like this, furthermore, it easily could have been avoided: the girl who did it could have just placed a pound of candies into two boxes and tied them together with a ribbon or used a divider to create two layers in one box. There is no excuse, especially when something is clearly intended as a gift, for this sloppiness. read more

I just visited Thornebrook Chocolates this morning (2/15) for the last time! The conversation went like this: Question: "Do you have any chocolate covered cherries?" Answer: "Yes, we have these." (Clerk pointing to several small boxes behind a glass display case) Question: "May I see one?" Clerk retrieves a box and holds it on her side of the counter. Question: I extend my hand and ask, "May I look at it?" Answer: "No sir. It has alcohol in the cherries. I cant let you touch the box." Question: "The reason I can't look at the box is because it has alcohol?" Answer: "Yes Sir." Customer Departing Comment: "Enjoy your chocolates." Clerk Departing Comment: "Have a nice Day." Query: How does one read the ingredients without holding and reading the box? My wife visited several days before Christmas in a prior year to purchase some Marzipan. She was told they were making some later that day and to come back in the afternoon. When my wife returned she was told it had been made but all of it was sold. Overall, I do not feel customers are valued by this business and would never return!! read more

This Christmas, to send gifts to my family in the midwest I wanted something local that wasn't a basket of oranges. I picked 2 lb boxes of assorted chocolates from the world class chocolatiers at Thornebrook Chocolates. They packed a lovely selection of their delicious candies that included a centerpiece candy with a holiday decoration and shipped them in insulated boxes. They all arrived intact and were loved! Looking back, I could have included a personal card in the boxes, but (as usual) I didn't think far enough in advance. They have 1-lb boxes, but I wanted to be sure they had plenty to share. The 2-lber is basically two 1-lb layers, so two of everything! Unless your recipient is diabetic, I heartily recommend Thornebrook Chocolates to resolve your gifting choices. read more

Ive been here probably about once a year, for ten years now. If i happen to be in the area, I try to go in and get a few bits o'chocolate. Went in with my boyfriend yesterday and we picked out from the case 3 different kinds, which amounted to about 8 pieces overall. They were delicious of course. Not the best chocolate ive had, but definitely not the worst. What I really am disappointed in, is the way the place is set up. its dated. It always looks like its going out of business in some way. Little wooden shelves with baskets and clear wrapped chocolates seperated into easter, gator, st pattys day, themes. the cases themselves are too short, and too dark. you have to literally bed over, or squat to see the ones in the back, and even then its not lit enough to see the actual chocolate you want to buy!! They would do well to revamp the place, chocolate has come a LONG way in the past 10 years and thornebrook is being left in the dust. read more

This is a great chocolate shop and to my knowledge Gainesville's only. The staff is amazing! They are super friendly and will answer any questions you have. I have been in mulitple times but I came through for Valentines day and they made me look great with their chocolate covered wine bottle. If you have never had one you have to come by and get one to try. You can bring in your favorite bottle of wine or purchase one from their selection. They take the bottle of wine cover it place and then you pick, dark, milk or white chocolate for them to cover it with. They then cut out where the logo was wrap it in plastic so it stay good for a while and put a nice bow on it. I thing it was only $15. The rest of the selection is really good. They have all sorts of fun molds and then have a large selection of your standard chocolate offerings. They participate in a lot of festivals so keep an eye out for that. This place is worth a trip to Thornebrook alone. read more

I am not a huge chocolate person, but the milk chocolate here is delicious. The chocolate covered oreos are so delicious, they always are topped with a sugar-coated heart for valentines day, sports, clovers, easter eggs, candy canes, etc. If you go in the near future, then please get a pack of the milk or dark chocolate covered oreos. Chocolate covered gummy bears are good and guess what else they have? CHOCOLATE COVERED POTATO CHIPS!! At first I thought gross who would eat potato chips covered in milk chocolate. Their jellybeans are even better than jellybellys. Also, their display case of chocolates are very good too. This local business has moved to another location in Thornebrook-- an end unit on the westside of the plaza (directly down from the old location). You can now park close to the entrance. This is a larger space, so there is more available items for sale-- chocolates from the case, packaged chocolates, chocolate & other candy novelties, ice cream, fudge, jellybeans, clothing, mugs, Beanie babies, etc. Prices are not low, especially on the non-candy merchandise. The location of the cash register directly in front of the entrance can make checking out & walking in (simultaneously) a little challenging. And due to the register setup, staff had difficulty knowing the order in which each customer should check out. (In fact, a woman who should have checked out only after me was called to the register first.) The staff members were friendly & the store was clean. No real change from the previous space other than checkout. Will return when/if I seek another gift of chocolate. (*Follow up: the quality, taste, freshness & variety of the chocolates were a big hit w/ company. Multiple friends said they were "excellent." It's nice keeping the $ in the community!) read more

This is a great place. My favorite is the glaceed apricot in dark chocolate. What I really like about the shop is that they carry everything in milk AND dark chocolate. So if really love a particular filling, you don't have to get all sad because it only comes covered in milk chocolate, for example, because they have it in dark too! I like their seasonal items and the fact that the store smells super. It is a bit cramped in there though, so I don't try to take my little ones (who always want to grab everything anyway). read more

Delicious chocolates! We found out about Thornebrook Chocolates a little over a year ago and what a great find! It was around the time we were planning our wedding and we tried their chocolate Gator lollipops and loved them! We also wanted local, tasty treats for our wedding favors so we asked them if they could make 120 of the chocolate Gators for our wedding. Cathleen was so helpful throughout the process and answered all of our questions. Our wedding guests loved the chocolates; we saw a lot of them eating them during the wedding!
