Update: No bleeding after and my guy is on medication for his heart .Dr. Nokano did an excellent job and today he doesn't need ice or pain meds . I'm encouraging ice to keep swelling down. He's able to eat soft food , soup , pudding jello , minced roasted chicken , mac n cheese . We also received a phone call around 8:30 Am today from the office to check up on the patient . EXCELLENCE IN CARE . Yesterday My man was at the office for an extraction. Dr Nokano is very though he's also involved in care , Dr. told us that he wanted to do the procedure today so that if there was a complication he could manage the care tomorrow and not try to figure it out over a weekend . He thinks exactly like I do about surgeries (i've had several) . This fact got him 5 stars in my book. most docs don't care beyond the last stitch. Dr. Nokano does care . The office is very thorough. I had two implant with Dr Nakano since last year. Generally, I think he did a good job on removing the teeth and putting the implants. However, like the other review mentioned, he's always rush to other patients. But the main reason I have to give two stars is the cost. When I called and asked about the price for doing implant, I was told it depends on my insurance which I understand. So I had a consultation and an idea of the payment. But didn't get any paper regarding all the breakdowns information or total price. And I had no idea the implant is only for the surgery and the post. I thought I will have the everything including the crown be done by the doctor. This is because when my husband did his implant done a few years ago, his doctor did everything. I think the office should have explain what the implant includes and all the cost involved. But no. I have to pay each time I went in. And I had no idea how much money I will be spending. And there's only one lady who knows about the payment. So if the lady is not there, I have to wait until she comes back to work. Although the lady is very nice and gave me a discount, I still have to pay a lot because somehow my insurance didn't want to pay for both teeth as she was told by my insurance. Anyway, I ended up having to go back to my dentist to finish the crown. But I later found a dentist who could do everything from surgery to implant and crown for both teeth for $3000 less than what I have to pay. Which means I could save even more if I use my insurance. So this makes me feel I was being overcharged too much!! read more

Dr Nakano and his team removed all 4 of my wisdom teeth yesterday and it went better than I could have imagined. Everyone there is so friendly and caring. I was a bit nervous but once I got in and started getting prepped they kept my mind occupied by talking with me and before I knew it I was waking up done with my surgery. I like to say first of all that I have had a lot of problems with my teeth and mouth since I was 7 years old (unfortunately) and I had a jaw surgery years ago, I am not new to Dentist and believe me I always went to the best, that said I am AMAZED by Doctor Nakano so I like to review him and his staff. He really really is the freaking BEST! I went for an extraction last week and it was kind of difficult the tooth was all broken ecc ecc , so I am thinking while he is trying to take it out, oh my gosh is going to be a painful week after I get out of here....poor me!!! But, lucky me he is unbelievably gifted and talented and I didn't need pain killers, antibiotics or ibuprofen!!!!! There you go!! Although the staff was incredibly friendly and the wisdom tooth surgery went well, I cannot recommend this place. I was charged for 4 15 min (1 hour) increments of anesthesia although I was asleep for less than 30 min, with proof of that. I asked about this and they claimed that the time starts when you are hooked up to any machine, including a heart rate monitor. The ticker report they showed just so happened to be exactly 45min long, and immediately at 45min they charge you for the last 15 min segment, even though I was awake for the last 5 minutes at least of the ticker. I cannot believe I was overcharged by close to $2,000 and all they give is a half ass excuse. Don't waste your money here. Additionally they messed up a number of times with very small/forgivable things that are barely worth mentioning, but along with overcharging it is too much. At least change the name of the charge to not only specify anesthesia. Again, I am thankful to the staff for being kind and doing a generally good job, Dr Nakano was great and the surgery went well. But I will never recommend this place because they will overcharge you so incredibly unfairly. read more

Dr. Nakano planned on charging me the highest price for the most expensive type of extraction, despite me not needing that type of extraction. I went in to see Dr. Nakano to have my wisdom teeth removed, and after the appointment the treatment plan stated that they wanted to charge me for four complete bony extractions (this is when the wisdom tooth is completely embedded in the jaw & is the most expensive type of extraction). After some research, I thought the diagnosis was odd considering two of my wisdom teeth had broken through the gums and one was just about to. I got a second opinion, and my suspicions were confirmed. Only one of my teeth was a complete bony, and the other three were cheaper extractions - a partial bony & two surgical. The second orthodontic surgeon also explained the X-rays and looked inside my mouth, two things Dr. Nakano didn't do. Dr. Nakano's office also *conveniently* didn't send my X-rays to the insurance. The extractions wouldn't have been covered by my insurance because they would have denied the claims (for being the wrong type of extraction) and I would have had to pay out of pocket. I wholeheartedly believe he uncharged me for financial gain. Always get a second opinion if the situation warrants it... I saved about $1,500 because I did. read more

I have to say this place is a lifesaver. I had a tooth that went bad and I thought I would be in surgery a long time. I scheduled an appointment and was hoping to have it done that day. We went and saw Dr. and he said yes need to remove it. In a matter of thirty minutes I was in the back surgical room and I was being given the sleepy medicine and the next thing I knew I was coming too seeing my beautiful wife smiling saying you okay? How was I feeling? I was groggy but I was able to stand after sitting for a few minutes then started to walk out the door with my wife to the car. The staff was amazing and super friendly. I am not a dentist person at all so coming here was nerve wracking but I felt like I was at home with them. Thanks to everyone here I am pain free and happy. read more

What a wonderful experience! Great staff, wonderful attitude and extremely Professional. We could not be happier with the service we received from Dr. Nakano himself and the rest of his staff. We came in for a consultation regarding a Wisdom Teeth extraction for my 16.5 year old. We entered a top notch office- very clean and where COVID-9 restriction are meticulously enforced. We were on time, staff was very courteous ans Dr. Nakano was on time. He took a thorough look at my son and the Xrays that were sent from our orthodontist, decided they were too old and immediately took new ones (no extra cost on top of the consultation). He took his time and explained in details how the Surgery is going to happen- stage by stage to my anxious teenager, which found him very patient and nice. Answered all our questions and we set the date to 2 weeks later. The morning of surgery, we were received on time, again with a very nice and patient staff that took real good care of my boy. Surgery was quick, and as Dr. Nakano said there were no complications expected -and so it was. All 4 teeth came out with minimum Pain after and a swelling that was gone less than 24 hours after surgery. We were amazed by how smooth this whole process went. HIGHLY RECOMMEND DR. Dr. Nakano saw me in the morning for just a consultation and was able to schedule me for an extraction that afternoon. They put me under a twilight sleep and I don't remember a thing until I woke up. The process was easy, considering what it was. They explained everything to me and my wife and Dr. Nakano called me that same night from his cellphone to make sure I was good and if I had any questions. I was referred to Dr. Nakano after one of my wisdom teeth became severely infected. I have a tremendous fear of dentists normally, but I was especially terrified because I knew I would need surgery to remove my infected tooth. Dr. Nakano made me feel instantly comfortable. He was so warm and understanding, and he educated me as best he could about what he was going to do, which really put me at ease. I came in for a consultation, but he decided right then and there to operate on me that day, and as a bonus, we was going to remove ALL my wisdom teeth. I didn't feel a thing, and it was over so fast. I was actually laughing in joy as soon as the surgery was complete! That same night my swelling was completely gone and I went to a party and no one knew I had just had oral surgery hours before. I had barely any pain and happily went to work the next day. I believe this is a real testament to Dr. Nakano's skill. Also, all the ladies in the office were unbelievably lovely and sweet. They knew how scared I was, and they did their best to reassure me, I even got a hug when I was on the verge of tears! But Dené, the surgical assistant that prepped me out, was the coolest. We were cracking jokes back and forth while she tried to find a vein to administer my anesthesia, and besides the doctor himself, she is my favorite person there, hands down. I was referred to Dr. Nakano's office by my dentist for wisdom teeth removal. I delayed the procedure for years but finally decided to just do it and get it over with. I did my own research to understand the risks & benefits and prepared a list of questions during my consultation. Dr. Nakano was super friendly and patient in addressing all of my questions and concerns. I could tell that he was very experienced and that I would be in good hands. I went back for a second consultation with additional questions regarding the proposed plan and details of the general anesthesia. The front staff was also very professional and helpful in providing me an estimate of my copay and coverage. Swallowing pills was never my forte so they customized my prescription for my convenience. Prior to the procedure, I picked up oral solutions for infection prophylaxis and pain prn. The procedure itself was quick and relatively painless. I was in and out in under an hour and sent home with very thorough instructions for post-surgery care and hygiene. Happy to report no swelling and no need for pain meds. Just some minor soreness and sensitivity typical with recovery. Highly recommend Dr. Nakano and his team for your oral surgery needs. They certainly exceeded my expectations. read more

If could give more than 5 stars I would! I had 4-wisdom teeth pulled last week and was preparing for the worst- well for one the experience with Dr. Nakano and staff was more pleasant than expected. I felt nothing when he hooked me up to an IV (I'm extremely nervous when it comes to my veins being poked and prodded), surgery was super quick but most importantly I literally had no pain. I'm sure everyone is different but at one point the day after surgery I wondered if they'd pulled anything at all because I felt great. Swelling was minimal, and I've healed up great. In another review for a local general dentist's office I mentioned that I had an infected wisdom tooth and that it needed to be replaced, the dentist then referred to Dr. Nakano's office for the consultation and surgery. I arrived at Dr. Nakano's office very early in the morning (at least for me ... 8am UGH). I had been on antibiotics and pain meds for a few days and I wanted this horribly infected wisdom tooth out, as well as the rest of my wisdom teeth. I so regret not getting those damned things pulled when I was in my early 20s vs my late 30s. Anyways, paperwork was a breeze, insurance was processed rapidly, and I found myself in an exam room getting a full facial X-ray to see how bad my wisdom teeth were. Yah, they were bad, and I felt like a bigger idiot for waiting so long. After a long discussion with Dr. Nakano we agreed that we would try for all 4 wisdom teeth today, but there was a possibility that it may not happen if he had significant problems with the extractions given the severity of the impaction. So I laid down on the chair/bed and the pleasant nurse placed a catheter in my arm, started me on all the monitoring equipment, started me on fluids, gave me oxygen and I just kind of laid there for a little while. I was given a mild sedative which made me feel nice and fluffy (yah I said fluffy!). Dr. Nakano came in ready to go, another injection was given and he asked me something about my job and I tried to respond but then ... nothing. I then awoke to my mother sitting next to me (she was my designated driver that day), and my mouth full of packing. The nice nurse pulled out the packing and then informed me that due to the difficult nature of the extractions, surgery had pushed into the 90 minute mark, and Dr. Nakano could only pull 3 of them and then had to move onto another procedure. I was a bit hazy, but I was OK with this and was expecting for him to actually only get two of those teeth done. According to the nurse all 3 came out in really small pieces, they were really just cemented in there. So the nice nurse helped me limp out to mom's car and home I went. Stopped by the pharmacy for more antibiotics and pain meds and I went home. Sadly, and through NO FAULT of Dr. Nakano I did have some significant complications, but this is where the 5 stars really comes into play. I had both the upper wisdom teeth removed and the lower right (the infected tooth) removed. I developed a severe case of dry socket on the upper left wisdom tooth, and because the roots of that tooth actually extended just a bit in my left sinus, this allowed for infection and inflammation to spread into that left sinus as well. For two weeks I was just so miserable, and the pain was unlike anything I have ever experienced. If I let the pain meds wane too much, it felt like some hammered a long, thick nail, through the open left socket, through my sinus and deep into my skull. In the extreme moments it then felt like that nail was being twisted around. It was brutal to say the least. Again, let me be clear, this is a potential side effect of this type of procedure, and Dr. Nakano did nothing wrong. Whenever I called his office during the day his staff would ALWAYS answer the phone (even during lunch breaks) and tell me to come in right away for a treatment with this clove oil that would greatly reduce the pain. Dr. Nakano himself would personally see me at 7:30 in the morning before other patients to see how things were going and even anesthetized the area to do a deep probe just to ensure that nothing got left behind (piece of a root or something). Thankfully after 3 weeks and at least 8 visits to his office it began to resolve. It was just a REALLY bad case of dry socket along with a bad sinus infection (insult to injury folks). Dr. Nakano and his office were on top of me and my situation the entire time. Every single person there were concerned about how I was doing, and they even contacted me at home a few times to follow up and see if I needed anything before their office closed up for the day. Shockingly enough, all of these follow up visits, one quick session of oral anesthesia, a couple of additional xrays, cost me ... nothing. All I paid was what my insurance company did not pay which was like $180 out of pocket. I have no reservations recommending Dr. Nakano and his office, they are kind, caring, efficient, and professional. I have 1 more wisdom tooth to get pulled, and it will have to wait until 2014 when my benefits reset, and yes I will be seeing Dr. Nakano again for that extraction as well. After that, I am sure you all can understand (and I hope his office will understand), when I say that I hope I do not see them again for anymore oral surgery (wink). Stay strong yelpers!! read more

I highly recommend Dr Nakano! He is wonderful and amazing!!! Recently I was bothered by the dental pain triggered by a dental implant for two months. I visited the dentist who did the implant multiple times and was told everything was fine. But my gum and bone was inflamed and the pain wake me up from sleep. I was so stressed and felt hopefulness. Then I decided to look for second opinion. I was so lucky to find Dr Nakano at Yelp after I read about all good reviews. His office called me in right away after they knew I had lot of pain. Dr Nakano checked me carefully. What made me so impressed is he believed my dental pain was true. He got me a CT scan right away and put me on antibiotics then scheduled me for the following procedure. During the procedure he did wise decision that only removed the inflamed bone tissue but saved the implant ! My dental pain quickly resolved after his procedure. I know I am healed and I am glad the implant is saved! Dr Nakano also texted or called me multiple times to check how I felt. What impressed me most is Dr Nakano listened to my story carefully instead of just assuming I was over sensitive to the pain. My name is Vana and I am Dallas Texas resident. Last summer my husband and came to visit my in laws in Thousand Oaks. We made a brief overnight trip to Pismo Beach to visit more family and while we were there I had a tooth crack and break. I was in pain, in an unfamiliar city, and terrified of the dentist. Having no choice I found a local dentist in Pismo and made an appointment. I was told he could not help me and it was urgent that I find an oral surgeon. I did some research and found that Dr Nakano was 5 miles from my in laws and had good reviews. When I called for an appointment I reached Pam. She was extremely friendly and went out of her way to fit me in Dr Nakano's schedule. I also spoke with Tiffany at one point and she was equally helpful and very polite. Once I was at his office I felt I was greeted with smiling faces and compassion. It was a very warm and caring environment. I am 33 years old and have been afraid of the dentist and have developed extreme anxiety my whole life over dental appointments. Dr Nakano immediately made me feel at ease. He has a wonderful bed side manner and I felt he really listened to me and understood how to handle what I was up against. He was very knowledgeable and talked me through the procedure and that made me feel very confident. The dental assistant that day was Dene and she was fantastic. I feel like she knew I was scared so she did a really good job of talking to me about other things, distracting my mind, and getting to know me. This of course helped me forget I was even in the dental chair. I later told her it was a very wise and much appreciated tactic. She has a really good sense of humor and it took me from tears of fear in my eyes to tears from laughing with her. After my appointment Dr Nakano personally called me to check and make sure I was feeling okay. I had several things that needed to be done over a period of time to get my dental care under control. I just had my fourth appointment and oral surgery with Dr Nakano on Monday and once again everything was as success. While I was there I also could not help noticing and thinking to myself that it really speaks volumes about how Dr Nakano must treat his team because it is still the same friendly faces. Because of the care I receive and how I am treated by him and his entire staff I will continue to fly from Dallas to LA to keep him as my oral surgeon. I cracked my front tooth, this tooth had an old root canal. I needed an implant to fix the issue. Dr. Jon Nakano and his staff were truly wonderful! I experienced little to no pain getting the tooth extracted and the implant installed.
