I've been referred here for years for various family members and myself for all sorts it teeth and jaw surgeries. It's always been well staffed, super helpful and friendly . Everyone here treats every patient like part of the family giving the best support and care on an individual based that they can. I like how informative and helpful the care is here, especially when suffering from mouth pain and not always being able to have patience and in a good mood. (Me, not them) I'm the have the most anxiety going to an oral surgeon then anybody and great care is being able to put up with my dismissive nonchalant personality. Hello?!. This post is long over due. While the work seems solid enough, the billing is not. The pricing kept fluctuating and when I requested for a specific portion of the procedure to be billed to insurance, as had been done successfully prior, they pushed back and had all sorts of excuses. I gave up and then paid my balance IN FULL as presented to me for the prescribed service leaving me with a zero balance. As a note, the services I went in for did not change at any time - I received exactly what was initially discussed and it did not change at any time. I again asked about billing a portion of the service to insurance as it had been previously covered and they finally agreed to do so. And guess what? A balance magically appeared on my account for the amount they were going to bill even though I had already paid the balance IN FULL. So, they collected from the insurance company after I had already paid the bill. When I questioned them on it, they treated me like a moron, talked down to me and enunciated how "prices are subject to change" even though the services I was receiving hadn't changed and I had already paid in full. They got an attitude and the X-ray tech was exceptionally rough on me. When I pulled back because she was hurting me, she admonished me to "stay still" in an angry tone like I was an uncooperative child. The best part? The entire staff refused to even acknowledge or say goodbye to me when I left the office. They all saw me and turned away, all because I had questioned their corrupt billing practices. This was after I spent more than three thousand dollars with them. I have had many procedures over the years and have never experienced anything like this. If you enjoy getting manhandled, ripped off and treated poorly this is the place to go. read more

I was referred to Dr Nakano by my primary dentist, and I am a very complex case. I found this oral surgeon to be extremely compassionate caring. He took his extra time to really go over my case and come up with an exceptional treatment plan. He explained everything to me fully and reassured me that we could do things slow slowly and take it step-by-step. As a complex medical patient and palliative care I've been through a lot. Losing my teeth is not an easy thing to go through and I'm not really a candidate for implants. I really appreciated his time and his caring. Above and beyond that his office was super nice. Everybody was so kind, reassuring and easy to talk to. It was easy to make an appointment easy to fill out the forms. The office is absolutely beautiful probably the nicest dental office I've ever been to and this says a lot because I've been to many. Over the past 9 years I've been to Dr. Nakano for consultations and procedures a number of times. He is an efficient, kind, reassuring professional, who also knows his stuff. I've always experienced good care from him and his staff. Since my last visit they've moved to shiny new offices on Long Court in T.O. Conveniently located on the first floor, the office was easy to find. The building has adequate free parking. They offer online patient forms, which gather a thorough health history. Once I was checked in and in an exam room, one of the assistants went over it with me to make sure they understood certain aspects. A 3-D x-ray ensued, with good news that I have sufficient bone for an implant in a key area. After Dr. Nakano confers with my other dentist, it looks like I'll be pursuing that path. Fun times! For better or worse, my policy with my wisdom teeth was "when they bother me, I'll get them out". At 55 years old, I figured the two I still had, which were problem-free over the years, were "lifers". But life had different plans for my lower, impacted, wisdom tooth. It got infected and it hurt. A lot. My dentist put me on antibiotics and referred me to Dr. Nakano. A week later, with the infection cleared up, I went in for my consultation with the doctor. They took a panoramic 3D x-ray. Let me note that their x-ray machine is modern and comfortable - none of the biting down on the plastic bite wing, gagging, etc. Doctor and I agreed on a plan, since the extraction looked to be a difficult situation. I told him, "I'm here. Can we just get it over with?"... knowing that if I was given an appointment for another day, I might have chickened out. Doctor Nakano consulted with his assistant, and told me "let's do it". So, I had the tooth out. I was pretty scared about the anesthesia more than the extraction per se. But everyone involved in my care was wonderful. They were comforting and professional. They sedated me enough that I was oblivious but still conscious. The after care was great too. Doctor Nakano personally kept in touch with me as did one of his nurses. I have no problem recommending Dr. Nakano to anyone who needs an oral surgeon. Thanks guys! read more

I took my son here for oral surgery. He prescribed opioids with NO counseling about the risks of these very dangerous and often unnecessary medications. I had even expressed my concerns directly to him about addiction risks Anna history of substance abuse in the family. STILL was given an RX with no medical advice. PARENTS please use Tylenol or Ibuprofen and DO NOT even fill these garbage medications that are exposing your precious child to the risk of substance use disorder. I came to Dr. Nakano following a failed procedure that got infected - done elsewhere. In correcting the procedure and fighting the infection, Dr. Nakano made the decision to direct me to the Los Robles ER. There, the ER Doctor recognized that I had a heart attack. I was then directed for a heart procedure at Simi Valley Adventist. Once there, my issues were diagnosed as much more life threatening and I was transported to Tarzana Providence Cedar Sinai Hospital where I underwent a quadruple heart bypass. I have been holding off having my wisdom teeth being removed for so long. I finally decided to have them removed due to the fact that they were beginning to give me excruciating pain. My mom had her wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Nakano and she had a great experience with him. I called and spoke to Paulina who I believe is the office manager. She had scheduled me in the next day for a consultation/exam and the actual appointment for removing my wisdom teeth. Paulina was amazing, very thorough with giving me instructions on what to expect before and after the procedure. I loved that they had all their patient forms on their website that I could fill out prior to my appointment! Not even exaggerating, I was in and out of the office in about an hour. My appointment went so smoothly, and the staff was great.I had expressed to the staff that I was extremely nervous and they were very comforting. Dr. Nakano is direct and very formative. I was recommended to Dr. Nakano by Bar-Zion Orthodontics. The consultation was straight and very easy to understand. Roughly two weeks later (today), I got the procedure of having all of my Wisdom Teeth removed. My Experience I was taken back to the operating room where they gave me an IV, a blood pressure monitor and explained the procedure. Just before they started, I was given oxygen and it was game over. All I remember was them telling me your wife is here to pick you up. I was definitely having great sleep :). The aftermath definitely included slight to medium pain which is to be expected and the bleeding has already stopped at the moment which is awesome. I have a mixed review of this office. My older son had a surgery in this office in 2016 and again in 2018. Both of this experiences couldn't be any better. Fast forward to end of 2022 when my younger son needed all four wisdom teeth removed. The surgeon is still fantastic, the surgery went smoothly and the post surgical time was smooth as silk. Where I have a problem is that the office staff is no where near the quality of my first son's time in the office. We went in for a consult in October and decided to do the procedure in December and set up the day and time before we left. When I called in 4 days before my youngest son's surgery I was told he was not put on the schedule but could put him on now. When I went to the pharmacy to pick up post op meds the day before the surgery they had only called in 2 of the 3 meds. The straw that broke the camels back for me to write this review was 3 days after surgery I called because my son was having cold symptoms (congestion and a cough). I tested him for COVID and he was negative but needed to know what I could give him for the coughing so he didn't dislodge the blood clots in the tooth sockets. They told me that I could give him whatever I normally give him. I said I normally give him Tylenol cold and I was told that was ok. I knew it wasn't because he was prescribed Tylenol with codeine for pain as needed. Everyone knows you don't give Tylenol on top of Tylenol! Although he wasn't taking the pain medicine regularly, we are at the time post op that if he was going to get a dry socket it was now and those are painful. I asked to talk with someone else and new person backed the girl before and said don't give the Tylenol pain just give ibuprofen. Yes this is more correct than what the first girl said, but no one was listening to what I was saying. I was looking for something else to give for the cold symptoms so that if I needed to give him the Tylenol with codeine I could. Sometimes LISTENING is the best part of customer service especially when you dealing with a parent caring for a sick kid. I give 5 stars for Dr. Nakano and his surgical skills, bedside manner and surgical techs but I give only 1 stars for the office staff. read more

I've been unwell the past year under a Dr's care for fatigue and seemingly a low grade infection. My dentist referred me to Dr Nakano to remove an assessed remnant from a previous extraction. I only just realized that the remnant, the broken off tooth now embedded in my gums was actually left there by Dr Nakano about two years ago. His poor work caused my continual infection. It is almost unbelievable that a specialist oral surgeon would not do a proper full extraction of a diseased tooth. read more

I was worried about the price, the pain, and the recovery of my daughter's four wisdom teeth extractions. Dr. Nakano and his staff made all of those concerns disappear. The cash price was less than I expected and worth the service that exceeded HMO dental. They prescribed the rx and shared post-op procedures ahead of time which made us prepared. The person who answer the phone has ZERO communication skills!!! She almost never answer the phone and if she does answer she put you on hold for long long minutes and hanged out the line. I had to have two teeth pulled. I went for a quick consultation and a few weeks later they were out. I was never in pain, either before or after. I had a pretty sore jaw for about a week. I was under anesthesia bc I'm a big chicken. My DDS could have done it, but I wanted to be asleep. They billed both of my DDS insurances and I pad ZERO! Woo hoo! The staff is SUPER professional and nice. The office is very pretty and welcoming, and also is really clean. Dr. Nakano was kind and matter-of-fact. Dr Nakano and the dental assistants are amazing. Very talented group of medical professionals. I've referred a few people here because of that. The office on the other hand- way too big for their britches. I called to schedule an appt almost three months after a procedure I had to have them tell me I had an outstanding balance because my insurance never processed the claim. (which the office physically mails on paper to the health plan) Claims take about 2-4 weeks to process so I was scratching my head wondering why I wasn't notified. The woman helping me scoffed and said, "Ma'am we did our job. It's up to you to call your insurance and find out what happened. You could have checked to see if I was processed." We did our job-what? How is that even in your arsenal of responses to an issue with a patient? I spent a very long time on hold w my insurance company only to be told I have to contact the office to find out what happened..after a hectic couple hours down the drain trying to figure it out they ended up mailing the claim again. Another example of this office being extremely unreliable is that my boyfriend who I referred has one of the most complicated cases according the the doctor (pretty scary, right?) has been trying to get a call back from that office for almost a month. They initially told him they would call him with an update post assessment, but never did. Over a week ago he called to try get the update and he has been told three times now that he would be contacted that day. He is way too sweet to make a fuss about it, but has been very anxious to hear what they want to do. That's not right! So yes, Dr. Nakano is excellent as well as his dental assistants, but now I am wondering if I've maxed out my coverage in the almost two month window they had to notify me that it was never processed. Having a good doctor is important, but this has made me realize that the people dealing with the insurance claims/office staff is also extremely important. Good lesson learned for me. If you come to this office you will get excellent treatment, but be prepared to be on top of your claims and to deal with unreliable/short staff. My dentist (who referred me) and endodontist also have very busy offices, but are so communicative and I'm so grateful for that, but if I could do it over, I would look for a good oral surgeon and go somewhere else. I was referred to Dr. Nakano by my primary dentist for a wisdom tooth x-ray/ exam. I had only one wisdom tooth that I thought would be fine without ever having it removed- but then early this year another one popped out and was causing me serious pain. I called the office and was able to make an appointment about two weeks later. During my visit the x-ray was easy and I didn't have to squeeze & hold anything in my mouth (that's always the worst part of having dental x-rays). Every single person in the office was kind and helpful. Dr. Nakano explained how he would remove the two wisdom teeth (my upper left and lower right) and the steps before and following surgery. I was back in the office less than a week later for surgery- again everyone was so kind and made me feel so comfortable. I remember having a conversation with one of the nurses about our tattoos and next thing I knew I opened my eyes and the surgery was done. First thing I said was "oh we're done?!?" "That's it?!" I was back home within an hour. *Also- I was pleasantly surprised at how aware I was just after waking up from the surgery. It felt like I had just woken up from an intense nap, and just a liiiiittle loopy (I was seeing double on the drive home, but I was fully aware I was seeing double. It's been 8 days and I'm nearly back to normal. The pain and swelling was minimal for me in the days after surgery. I didn't need the strong pain meds, the ibuprofen prescribed to me was enough. My lower jaw is the only source of pain (aches) but each day it gets a little better. 10/10 experience! I am so happy I got my wisdom teeth removed by Dr. Nakano and his team. read more

If I could give 10+ stars I would, Dr. Nakano was a god send during my hour of need. I developed an infection in my jaw from a cracked tooth that I had before COVID. I called in desperation on a Monday, looking for help and the dentist that day was leaving at 3pm. I got there at 2pm and he immediately jumped in to help me, it ended up being a very difficult extraction and went WAY past 3pm. NO hesitation from him or his staff and they took SUCH amazing care of me. I was so scared and concerned before the appt as I was DYING from pain and he put me at ease and handled it. He had me come in after a few times after just to follow up on my infection and to make sure my healing was on track. I would recommended him OVER and OVER!! Such amazing staff and Doctor. I wouldn't wish this infection on my worst enemy, BUT if you need help please don't hesitate and call his office. read more

Dr Nakano was wonderful and everything went perfectly with the extraction and placement of the implant. My complaint is about his staff: I had made an appt but the person I spoke to failed to put it in the books/computer, etc. I understand mistakes can be made, but when I showed up for the appt, the receptionist was completely unreceptive, seemed inconvenienced by my appearance and, overall, was very cold. Not what I'd call a "reception" at all. Second, the insurance they calculated was incorrect. When I tried to point this out, I was shunned by the front staff. I had to chase down their insurance person, who was equally unreceptive. I'd already obtained a copy of her calculation. When I explained that I had spoken to an insurance rep with the calculation in hand, she was still dismissive. I had to learn all the codes and the respective coverages. Nonetheless, she argued with me until the end and I told her I would only pay my calculated co-pay, which I did. After the procedure the insurance covered it EXACTLY as I had calculated. Of course there was no apology or acknowledgment. Sorry Dr Nakano, but this is why I am going to another oral surgeon now that my son need to be reviewed for a possible wisdom teeth extraction... read more

I went to Dr. Nakano for an implant. I was expecting it to be painful as the extraction at my dentist was incredibly painful. That was not the case. Dr. Nakano is very quick; I could feel the speed of his hands, but that's about it. At some point I felt the pressure of tightening the screw...but again that was pressure vs pain. There was nothing painful! Aside from his hands, he is very courteous and polite. His staff are outstanding; Kathy his assistant is superb and the clinic is very clean and new. Wonderful oral surgeon. I went in with a badly broken back molar which could not be saved, as it was in pieces. Getting an appointment was easy, the staff were very professional in a very nice office. The doctor was on time, clearly explained my procedure and took me in for an extraction on the spot, under general anesthesia, which I had prepared for in anticipation of having the surgery that day. I had a bone graft done as well so that a post could be put in in about six months later, or not. The doctor did not pressure me one bit or up sale me on anything. He could not have been more professional. I didn't have dental insurance and although the cost was high, it was not at all out of line with what anyone else would charge and he kindly gave me a discount. In 6 weeks the surgery has healed with no complications and I did not have a moment of pain the day of or anytime after the extraction. read more
