While I love the clothing selection and brands with a lot of options here, the pushy salesperson is just too much. This is my second time to visit this store, but sadly it's my last. She clearly hasn't learned to read her customers. Following you around the small store while trying to force you to try things on isn't my definition of good customer service. The salesperson ( who I found out is the owner) seems to know what will look good on me. And she is such a good size guesser. I moved to Bellingham right before the pandemic, so I really hadn't explored very many businesses in Fairhaven. My friend was visiting recently from Austin, Tx and we were checking out all the stores in the village. We both hit the jackpot at 3 French Hens. The owner helped us picked out numerous outfits which all worked great. I hadn't shopped for anything new in about 3 years and it was good to get back into finding interesting clothing again. The owner is short like me and recommended really wonderful outfits for a short person. She also told us both when things just didn't work. I really appreciated her honesty. At first, I thought she was being a bit pushy cause she seemed to be listening to us, but then I realized she was just listening so that she could understand us and make good suggestions...she was just trying to get to know our style. You don't get that type of help very often any more from people that really know the merchandise and can size you up and help you put things together. read more

Recently moved to Fairhaven so was wandering downtown exploring the shops. This one looked so cute from the outside, and with a name like "Three French Hens," who could resist? Went inside and was met with a cordial, "Are you looking for anything in particular?" Me: "Nope, just looking around. This is such cute shop!" Her: "Thanks." After that awkward exchange I wandered past some clothes and she followed every step I made. Mind you, when someone is constantly 5 ft away casually fluffing random merchandise, it's extremely obvious. There was a smaller room off to the side with more intimate items, the slippers looked cute.. yep, she followed me into that tiny 10x10ft room as well, pretending to be busy arranging the already-meticulously-placed items. Funny thing is I literally could've bought anything I wanted in that store, but the rudeness of this person has turned me off forever. I'll admire the architecture from the outside, but truthfully, nothing very special in there anyway (and very much overpriced). Sad too, as most of the Fairhaven stores are so friendly and inviting. read more

*Update 4/15/2015* I recently visited this store again and was as impressed as before with the quality and selection of clothing here. The tops felt like "buttah", many still made from bamboo, all in classic styles but with subtle, contemporary details. In other words, these are the kinds of styles that will weather time and trends but aren't matronly. They look and feel "today". And the quality is such that the clothes will definitely last a long time. They had pants that I'd kill to have: amazing feel and look, stretchy without looking stretchy, in gorgeous tones of camel, red, black and neutrals. They have some sort of control panel built in to the front stomach panel, but it's imperceptible and I couldn't see anything or feel anything out of the norm for pants. They're killer. The brand is Lisette and I marveled how they're from Montreal (my home town). And the fantastic tops are by Tribe, another Montreal brand. Yeah, Montreal! There are gorgeous lingerie items and under-clothings in the rear of the store. They appear to be French and very lacey and frilly. The clothes here are definitely pricey but this is one place where the adage is true: you get what you pay for. The clothing is incredibly well made and you won't see them on every second person (like you do clothing from chain stores). And the sales ladies here are very nice and knowledgeable about their merchandise. I hope to one day have the budget to do some serious shopping here! read more

Great collection of clothes and accessories. Really unique clothes for all ages and body types. Got some great stuff on sale - a gorgeous black dress and really cool top. My sister also got beautiful stuff and we're totally different shapes and wear different styles. Will definitely be back when I visit Bellingham again! read more

I came in with a dress that my wife wasn't a fan of. I'm a guy, I tried. The customer service that I received was amazing. Liz not only treated me like an actual human being, but she instantly became my personal shopper. I know my wife likes it when I pick out things for her rather then just get her a "gift certificate" and honestly, most of the time I'm so intimidated...I usually give up before I'm even greeted. Liz not only greeted me with a welcoming, friendly attitude...but she was patient, informative and made me feel at ease. She showed me different options and even color coded everything for me. All I had to do was say yes or no. My wife is a big fan of comfy soft pajamas but I didn't want to get her just the norm. I ended up with not only one perfect set, but two! My friend and I had the exact same experience of being monitored closely in an obvious manner and only spoken to once in a dismissive tone when we first stepped in. This store is chock full of french imports, unique knick-knacks, greeting cards, decorations, and really fancy items. There was a whole line of bamboo fiber clothing and a few pieces of bedding- I was so enamored with the feel of the cloth- like cotton, but silkier, and 100% sustainable. I want a pair of sweats made from that bamboo cloth! They had this candle that reminded me of my grandma- some sort of soap she used to use. Prices are up there, but there are a lot of quality items here, so stop in and take a look around! read more

I've bought two skirts: a denim Nic & Zoe and the other a linen skirt with pockets by Three Dots; also a navy blue bamboo maxi dress by Yala. I love this store because they obviously put a lot of thought into what items they carry. It's not a huge store like Nordstrom, so they really put the best of the best in here. read more

I loved this store so much. They had the most unique collections... I felt the Sales lady was very present, but not at all pushy. She was very nice, and seemed to be very interested in showing me what was new and Hot, but I like that kind of attention when I am shopping. I ended up buying a couple of items, that I felt were very unique. Shopping in a Boutique like Three French Hens is much different that shopping in the mall. I am new to Fairhaven and decided to take a walk downtown after lunch with my two adult daughters to check out some of the cute little boutiques and such. We saw the cute storefront of Three French Hens and decided to go in. The woman working in the store was obviously a very unhappy person & extremely rude. I commented on the french music and how charming it was and she responded with a silent nod and a look that I can only describe as condescending & rude. She also had a snooty and unfriendly attitude towards my girls and I in general. We could have dropped $$$$ in your not "so special" little boutique. Big mistake on your part. A word of advise to the owner ... get a new sales person! We will be sure to tell all of our friends in Bellingham to steer clear of The Three French Hens. You just lost 3 potential customers. I stop at this fabulous store every time I am in Bellingham. There is always something new and exciting about this unique shop each time I visit. My first purchase was some custom Bella Notte bedding for my baby girl. I wanted only the finest linens for my child -- and I was not disappointed. The quality and feel of this plush line of bedding is indescribable. I had some trouble deciding between the different fabrics. But, the proprietor of shop was very pleasant and helpful. I stopped into this quaint little ladies clothing store in Fair Haven just outside of Bellingham to purchase some clothing for my wife's birthday. Honestly me shopping for ladies clothing is a big stretch but I had heard some good things from my friends and they said that they had great staff who would help me out. The moment I walked into the shop I was immediately greeted and the lady that helped me out was amazing. I explained what my wife had in her closet and had peeked to see her measurements which I shared. I basically let her take over from there and I have to say if I could do all my shopping for my wife this way then count me in. LOL By the end of it I have a great selection of clothing or at least what I thought was and accessories, a couple accessories I actually picked out myself. The true test came when I gave them to my wife for her BD and she was blown away with what I picked out and now raves to her friends that her husband knows how to buy her clothes. A bit concerning if I have to go to a different store next time. I would like to keep this secret to myself for future purchases but my wife insists that I take her there so she can see what else they have. Be careful what you wish for. This is one of my new favorite shops! Too bad I live an hour and a half away!! But the two times I've been to Bellingham, I've shopped here and have always left a happy customer. My friend and I were in today and spent quite some time browsing, trying in very cute clothes and doing a little early Christmas shopping. The saleswoman was incredibly helpful and friendly. They were out of my size in an item but offered to order it for me, saying that the item was so popular, they would have no problem selling it. They then tried to pressure me into pre-paying for the item. It was so confusing! Why offer to order my size and assure me they can sell it, only to ask me to pre-pay for my special order item? This is only my 2nd time to Fairhaven in a decade, and now I wish I lived closer. This is one of those boutiques which has features that all boutiques used to have. Particularly nice is the special clothing, at reasonable prices for the quality and uniqueness of the find. A helpful, but not overly aggressive, staff and nice ambiance too (French music and nice temp control despite the hot day outside). read more
