I have walked past Gown & Glove probably six zillion times since it opened on Cornwall Ave, most often while on my way to get breakfast at Arlis's next door. Finally, I had the occasion (literally) to stop in when my daughter needed a prom dress. I was super impressed with their collection of fancy gowns in every shape, color, and size. There were super formal options, as well as less formal dresses too. In the front of the store are two racks with shorter gowns, and in the back are racks and racks of longer gowns. The owner, Blanca, was really helpful in showing us how to navigate the store, even though she was simultaneously doing a bridal gown fitting while throngs of moms/teens circled the store looking for prom attire. The store was scheduled to close for the day when we were there, but being the savvy biz owner that she is Blanca stayed open with a smile on her face and we never felt rushed to finish our shopping. While my daughter ultimately didn't find her perfect dress here, I can safely say this will be our number one stop for future formal shopping. When I got engaged, I went to Gown and Glove to "just look" at dresses. I had an idea of what I wanted and was not finding that on my own after trying about 20 dresses. The owner, Blanca, stepped in to help me. She put me in a dress 5 sizes too big and I was perplexed, until she tightened it up around me and shortened the gown (I wanted a short skirt) and my jaw dropped. She transformed what felt like a blanket on me into THE dress. It was magical. What really made it perfect was Blanca tailored the dress herself- so from start to finish she saw me through with this dress. She saw what it could become and she made it that way. It was really special to me. I loved that we could take a maybe worn once dress and make it mine. Blanca had me come in for 3 fittings- after the 3rd it was perfect. She also helped me find a sweet little belt that worked with the dress flawlessly. My mom and I stopped by this place after hearing rave reviews from a few friends of mine who have found their wedding dresses here. I wanted to share my amazing experience with finding my wedding dress here: Our goal initially was just to try on some different shapes and figure out what looked best on me, then look at some other boutiques and buy a dress new. I was so surprised at the amount of dresses they had in the store, and how relaxed and easygoing they were - they let you grab whatever you want and take it back to the fitting room. Not once was I hassled or pressured. After trying on about 10 different dresses that ended up not fitting, the owner Blanca kindly approached me and asked what kind of shape I was going for. After telling her, she showed me a dress on a mannequin right at the entrance of the store that I had completely blown past and didn't notice - it was love at first sight. She was so sweet and helpful and reassured me that it would likely fit even though it was a size smaller than the other dresses I tried on. Once I was in it I knew it was THE one. She helped lace it up in the back and offered honest and helpful suggestions for potential alterations. Blanca clearly knows what she's talking about and has an eye for detail - she swapped out the tie on the back of the dress with a color she thought would look better and it looked amazing. What I really appreciated was that she gave us our space and let my mom and I talk about potential options for alterations and about deciding if we wanted to buy the dress without pressuring or hanging around. When we noticed the gown had a small discoloration on the front, Blanca offered us $100 off the dress, saying that she should have caught that when she put it on the mannequin and priced it. She also helped me find a beautiful veil that matched the dress perfectly. She gave us a recommendation for a dry cleaner in the area and was so helpful and sweet. She'll be doing the alterations on the dress and gave us a price estimate that was very fair. I'm SO glad I stopped in to look at dresses, and couldn't believe I found the one even though I'm so picky. I'd highly recommend this place to anyone who's even beginning to think about their wedding dress - you never know what you might find! read more

I have called and emailed them multiple times and no one answered or responded back. I even have an open case with them through the BBB and they still haven't responded to that either! I bought my wedding dress from Gown & Glove and had a really fantastic experience there. Walking in, it felt like a Goodwill for wedding dresses, but as I looked at the actual gowns, I realized that they had some really great ones and very good prices. I was in Bellingham for only a couple days of wedding planning so was by myself, and even though it was a busy Saturday, they made sure to check on me in the dressing room and help me get zipped and bustled. There was one dress that really caught my eye, but I had some questions on whether or not it was able to be altered enough to fit. To make a long story short, one of the employees arranged to have an alterations lady meet me there on Monday morning when they opened at 11am so I could try on the dress and get her opinion before I bought it. This was wonderful because I had to leave by about 11:20am to get on the road to catch a ferry. The timing worked out perfectly, and I ended up buying the dress. They really went above & beyond to help me out in my situation, being there from out of town for only a couple days. read more

I have to say, I really like the concept behind this store. I wish I would have found a store like this when I got married. It just makes sense to get a gently used wedding dress, since you are only going to wear it once. That being said, I have consigned my wedding dress, and I hope that someone else will benefit from it...at a much cheaper price than I did:) I found the process of consigning to be very easy. Their terms and conditions are fair and make sense. It is true, they don't check up on the price of the dress. If you are buying, just apply the same rules that you would use when buying anything else second-hand. Know your budget, and have an idea of what things should cost. You may think this is wedding, prom and bridesmaids dresses only, but it is not!! they have so much more than that. They have a Huge selection of all those dresses, but I went in there looking for a semi-formal dress for a fundraiser and I got a marvelous designer dress for a fraction of the cost!! They also have everything else you are looking for, decor, shoes, accessories. The Owner is Very friendly and helpful, not at all pushy. Her goal is finding you a dress (or whatever else) and helping you save a buck or two buying it on consignment. I am incredibly disappointed in how my experience has turned out with this store. I brought my dress in at the end of summer 2014 to see if it would sell. When ownership changed, I was told that my dress would remain on the rack until someone called to let me know I needed to come pick it up. Twice in the past 6 months I have called and spoken to someone about the status of my dress, and have been told that it was still on the rack and that I would get a call back about whether I needed to come get it, but then never heard back. Last night on my way home from work, I drove by the store and called again, and even though they were open, they didn't answer the phone, so I left a voicemail. This morning Bianca called me back to tell me that my dress had already been donated, and I was not given any opportunity to come get it! I was assured that I would get a phone call back on Thursday (today) from the owner of the store. I have heard nothing. I'm extremely upset...I had made the decision (not lightly) to sell my dress in the hopes that I would get something back for it, and now that opportunity is gone. I contacted the store via private message to let them know how upset I was, and I know that someone saw the message (the beauty of Facebook Messenger) almost immediately after I sent it, but have still not heard a word from them. I am incredibly disappointed in the customer service (or lack thereof) I have witnessed here, and will be pursuing other venues to make this right. read more

I had gotten off work early to check out the finery at G&G only to find they had closed early. Crestfallen, I lingered at the door, noticing that the lights were still on, and made my most pathetic face....the owner, Sue, took pity on me and let me in. She had a granddaughter's birthday party to attend, but ever-so-graciously allowed me to peruse her excellent selection of gowns. Her customer service skills were superb, a long-lost and often-missed art in the city of subdued excitement. To any and all brides earthy enough to embrace the notion of a recycled gown, you simply must treat yourselves with a trip to G&G. The selection, prices and feel-good elements are all there. Just think, the money you save(on a dress you'll wear for, seriously, about 4 hours) could ridiculously amplify the luxuries of your...hmm, fill-in-the-blank-and-use-your-imagination. I stopped in the store one day to see if it would be worth my time to bring my mother here with me when she came to town to go dress shopping. The last thing I expected was to find MY dress! The dress was one the store acquired when another boutique closed down so it is a brand new dress, and it is everything I wanted in a dress but couldn't find. Stephanie let me put a small deposit on it and held it on "layaway" until my mom came into town. This place is awesome and came in real handy when I had to move my venue suddenly. They have a great selection and although I didn't find anything in my size in a simple dress, at the time, the people around my wedding did and they were thankful for the prices and selection including my flower girl dress and accessories. We were looking more for quality and ease after so much laddee dah crap at the boutiques. Honestly at the point I was at I really didn't care about the label, make or model...lol or the price...most of the dresses were priced pretty reasonable and I'm thinking that if the above is a huge issue maybe shopping at a consignment boutique is not for some. I just ended up needing a simpler dress right away and ended up paying heavily for it at the big bridal store; which wasn't my first choice. I would definitely buy my formal attire here in the future though...gorgeous selection! read more

Word of caution to other brides, do NOT trust the prices on the dresses at Gowns and Gloves. The owner admitted they do not research dresses when they come in and simply price them to whatever brand and price the consignor says they are- even if the dress supposedly comes in with "no tags" which seem to reappear later when you question the dress. I personally would just go to Preownedweddingdresses.com or Recycledbride.com if you are looking for a preowned dress, save yourself the money and heartbreak. I am still waiting to hear if I will get any of my deposit back, I will keep you posted on how they handle this situation, and possibly write a much more detailed review later. I do love the concept of their store, just not the situation the owner has put me in. read more

I took in some very valuable formal gowns and expensive amethyst rings for consignment and specifically asked about their 6 month rule. The woman told me that they were very nice items and would not be donated. I checked back a couple of months later, and nothing had sold, and she told me they would be fine. A year later, I dropped in to see what had sold and was told that they had DONATED them to CHARITY! I would have taken them back if I'd known this. I am out some very expensive items and was only told it was policy. It took her forever to find my original paperwork. (It is kept in paper boxes on the floor.) I think she wouldn't have been able to find my clothing anyway, because the place is a disorganized mess.... I was extremely upset and she has not only lost a customer for life, but I will tell everyone not to go there. Don't consign in this place. I don't think anyone ever sees any money and the owner is unsympathetic and rude. read more

The staff were amazing and didn't hesitate when I asked them too help me lace up a dress or take something back. I only had to try on a couple dresses and found the right one. Had a horrible experience brining my Dresses here. I checked on them every two months out of the nine months they keep them and each conversation was different. They had claimed I had been in to receive money for a dress sold on a day I was at work, when I asked for proof they couldn't show me. I showed up a different day with a different girl working and I looked for my dresses and found three of the nine I brought in and they couldn't find any others. Then they said they brought my dresses to a trunk show which was two months prior to my last visit and they never put them out again. Of course when I went in to speak with the owner she had different stories and said they were out on the floor for sale in the exact places myself and her employees looked. When I finally received a little bit of money after seeing the prices my dresses went for I didn't get the percentage as promised. I didn't fight it because you can't fix this place. All I recommend for this place is for the BBB to pay them a visit and check out their inventory and books. With the way they handle business I went in for cash, like they would ever send you a check that can "get lost" in the mail. read more
