After having my son I no longer have the time to make fermented and cultured foods. Lucky for me Three Stone Hearth offers a decent variety of fermented and cultured food and beverages to purchase. Plus the kitchen is just a few blocks from my house which makes it easy for me to pick up my weekly supply of Kombucha, kefir, sauerkraut, and kvass. I can't speak to the quality of their food because I do not eat meat or dairy and they adhere primarily to the GAPS diet and Weston A. Price food prep style. However their food offerings are diverse and balanced for those interested in these style foods. I find the kitchen to be a welcoming communal space. Costumers and staff are warm and friendly. Definitely worth a visit to enjoy the nourishing foods and vibes. read more

Incredible. Best of the bay area local organic ingredients, lovingly packaged so you can pick up prepared and semi-prepared foods...not so expensive it doesn't make sense as a "bridge meal"...meaning, we wanted to go out but instead had these intensely wonderful Marin Sun Farms lamb patties with pomegranate or this delicious peanut curry and Masa brown rice...and with no clean-up at home over a bottle of wine, still less than a dinner out and probably much better for you! Combine with a farmer's market run for greens and fruits...I find I only need head to Berkeley Bowl or Rainbow every few weeks. And I am feeling much less stressed and super happy about that. Plus, they are carrying raw milk now that Whole Foods (poo poo) dropped it. Also, their Beet Kvass is life changing! Give it a go, work it into your food budgets...its well worth it! read more

I live with chronic pain and fatigue and getting healthy meals can be difficult. Often too tired to cook (or shop) I used to end up nuking something frozen from Trader Joe's. As much as I love TJ's, let's face it, microwaved frozen entrees do not a healthy diet make so my naturopath recommended Three Stone Hearth. A new menu goes up every Thursday and you can order whatever you want. Pick-up is Weds night and Thursday 10-4. They also have delivery to the East Bay and Marin. The kitchen is on University Ave near Sacramento Street so pick up is pretty easy. The food is great. Healthy, organic, seasonal and locally sourced.This is the diet one SHOULD have if one has the time and energy to make it happen. Best of all, I feel better! Yes, it's pricey. Three Stone Hearth (TSH) uses traditional methods to make wonderful nutrient-dense prepared foods. Most of their recipes conform with Weston A. Price and Nourishing Tradition's guidelines, and many are also GAPS and Paleo compliant, with many gluten-free offerings. Some favorites include their delicious bone broths (especially chicken), casseroles, and soups and stews. They also make great cultured/fermented foods, including kvass, kombucha, pickled vegetables/krauts, and condiments. TSH also contracts with small farms and food vendors from Northern California, offering raw milks, organic pastured ​eggs, cheeses, meat, bread, lard, honey, and more, including beauty products. For a fee, TSH does weekly deliveries to homes in SF, the East Bay, and Marin. Just a warning, deliveries vary greatly in their arrival time from week to week. Fluctuations are caused by kitchen delays, number of customers ordering, traffic, etc. We had a delivery window of between 2 and 7pm, and it would usually be between 4 and 6 when our food arrived. Everything is packed with ice packs to keep perishables cold. Our delivery person was Miles, who we eventually gave a gate code for deliveries. He also picks up the last week's jars for sterilization/reuse. I hope to take a class in their kitchen one day. I love TSH! read more

A God Send for busy families wanting healthy, nutrient-dense meals. I am the proud mother of a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old. While I used to enjoy collecting recipes, leisurely strolling through the farmers market for inspiration, and spending hours in the kitchen, now I just don't have the time. With TSH, I can get several amazing dinners for my family AND fresh and healthy baby food for my tiny girl. (Big Dipper Rocks!) It's awesome that they deliver to Marin! And now at most dinner times, I can spend a fraction of the time at the stove and the rest of my time enjoying my kids and dinner guests. We've been blessed by their food for years. Healthy ingredients, good tasting food, supports local producers. Good food costs a little more but we stretch their thick soups and stews by adding some of their beef or chicken broth and sometimes a few of our own veggies. On balance we find our grocery bills to be the same if not a little less since relying on Three Stone more since COVID hit. Their prepared soups, the staples like eggs, and occasional treats have been a godsend during shelter in place. The people are super friendly and go out of their way to serve. I love Three Stone Hearth and what it is doing. Their food tastes great, and it is what people are supposed to eat! Solid nutrition with pasture raised meats, eggs, organic vegetables, and no icky gluten! My only gripe is that they under spice a lot of their food to make it kid friendly. Well, that and it is pretty pricey. If you were to make your own dishes with pasture raised meat, you would probably be spending the same amount anyways. My favorite dishes: Black Bean Chili with Ground Beef (buy more than one!) Orangesicle Gelatina (or any Gelatina!) Chicken Liver Pate (I threw away the pork) Grassfed Beef, Chicken and Pork Broths (all are fantastic) Sweet Potato Custard (made my heart sing! I wish it wasn't seasonal) Mexican Chicken Soup (most soups are great) I have tried a few things that I didn't care for and didn't end up eating, and sometimes I buy one where I wished I bought four. It definitely takes some regular ordering to find out what you like. If you go into the store for pickup, they often have things to taste test to see if you want to buy it or order it for next time. Sometimes things are already sold out though, so be careful. I almost always really enjoy their casseroles and meaty pints! Dishes are sold in glass mason jars with a refundable deposit, so no bpa or waste! They also sell a lot of nutrient dense staples, that are fantastic! Great for those on the Paleo diet that don't have time to cook. They have many Paleo friendly dishes! read more

First, it's important to understand that this business has a philosophy of providing nutrient-dense foods made with pasture-raised meats, organic local produce, and properly prepared foods by soaking and sprouting grains, beans, and nuts. Many of the meals are gluten-free. This is also my dietary philosophy which requires a lot of time to prepare and procure these high quality foods. Since I have been busy lately, I decided to supplement my life with some prepared foods by Three Stone Hearth. It's awesome! They deliver the meals to me in San Francisco. Most of the soups and stews I eat with a salad or vegetables that I cook at home to make a more well-rounded meal in how I like to eat. I trust the food, the ingredients, and the business. I love supporting a worker-owned co-op that also supports small farms and local foods. The food is delicious. I like that it is flavorful without being overly salted or spicy. It is made well and it tastes really good. It's great if you have dietary restrictions like dairy-free or gluten-free since there are good options for meals made without these common allergens. I was lucky to experience Three Stone Hearth as part of a Bauman College class field trip this week. I have the utmost respect for the owners and volunteers at this revolutionary "community supported kitchen. They have created a truly unique new type of food business. We helped in the kitchen, and the care that goes into every item is very impressive. The "meaty pint" (what a great name) and granola I tasted were especially delicious. That said, buying a full week's meals is probably not realistic since, as others have mentioned, it's expensive. But what a unique place. I highly recommend that anyone who lives close check it out. I am in total support of a community kitchen such as Three Stone Hearth that uses locally grown, unprocessed, organic ingredients, prepared with love by mostly volunteers to support the nutritional needs of the nearby communities. For people who are too busy with other priorites in life but do not want to deprive themselves of nurishing and delicious foods at the same time, or for those who have health issues and are on restricted diets, TSH is definitely good news. Their meat are organic, grass-fed and eggs/poultry from free-ranged chickens. They always have a good selection of dishes on their menu and the menu changes weekly. I've ordered their beef bone stock and a few other items when I was not able to spend much time cooking nurishing meals. Each item comes in various sized-mason jars and I would put some in the freezer and they lasted for a few weeks. I also got the raw cheese and gluten-free bread. The bread was a little too coarse and hard though, almost like a piece of rock. They closed down their delivery spots on this side of the bay south of SF though, so there is no drop-off for me to pick up anymore since I live in San Mateo. I just wish I could get their stuff around here. Working 9-5 on the mid peninsula, I cannot get to either SF or Berkeley easily during the week, especially given the traffic after 5 pm. That's the main reason I have not ordered anything since a year ago. I am going to volunteer cooking at the kitchen on a Sunday one of these days. read more

Their bone broth soups such as Chicken and Rice in Brazilian Coconut Sauce, and Lentil Chili with Lamb, are very hearty and tasty. I buy them in bulk and store them in my freezer so that I always have access to them. Yum. I get multiple meals out of each jar because I'll combine the soups with other ingredients. This place is in a word... amazing! They came highly recommended to me by a friend and I've been using them for years now. Once a week we get a menu, order our food for the week, and then wait for it to be delivered. The food is often tasty and FULL of good minerals. So much so I find I need less food then I might normally eat to get the same "full" feeling. I usually spend anywhere from $70-100 a week on these guys plus delivery to my door at $20 and it's always money well spent. For the busy health conscious foodie, this is a must! read more

I've been a TSH customer for 4 years. Although I am not always super happy with the taste of their food, I keep going back because it's healthy and there is no other such alternative in the area that I know of. I feel like I am feeding my family top quality nutritious food and it really matters to me. Some of their food tastes and smells way too much like bone broth, such as the cauliflower soup which I recently got. Cooking instructions are off, it takes much longer to cook their food than they claim (e.g. frozen meatloaf). Customer service sucks. I once bought baby food that expired the day after my purchase and when I complained, I never heard back. Three times. No response. Pretty inconvenient pick up times. Location works if you live in the area. Parking always available. read more

The first thing you should know about them is you had better like meat and animal products in general, because their food is rife with these ingredients. While there are a few vegetarian options, generally, this is a heavy style of cooking, kind of like being in Eastern Europe in the middle of winter. While the idea of a community supported kitchen is noble, I'm not convinced this meat-centric, calorie dense, rather stodgy style of food is really what most Americans need at this point. Maybe quite the opposite. It's also quite expensive. I've had some very tasty sauerkrauts and a ridiculously rich but undeniably delicious granola, as well as soups and stews. If anything, the latter should encourage you to make your own for a fraction of the cost, but then, that's the price you pay for convenience. A recent email testimonial about a woman who finally found dietary redemption after a rather tragic life of struggling with addictions, weight gain, etc., by beginning to eat meat again made me question their judgement and philosophy. While not doubting her individual experience, I have to question the larger message they are trying to send about appropriate diet and addressing illness, and the kind of over-the-top testimonial around it. There are good and delicious things here, and I'm sure the people involved have the best intentions. Just be aware that if you're not into seriously animal based, heavy food, TSH may not be for you. I give Three Stone Hearth my highest rating! They are a cooperatively owned and operated community supported kitchen. Think community supported agriculture (where you get a box of produce once every week or two directly from the source) and you'll begin to get an idea of how Three Stone Hearth works. They have close relationships with a lot of the best organic providers in northern California, buy directly from those providers, and then cook quality food. Subscribers can pick exactly what they want in their box, and order weekly or just every once in a while. Everything is slow cooked, and the nutrients of the food you eat are enhanced and preserved by the cooking process Three Stone Hearth uses. Some things available are complete in and of themselves (meaning you can eat them without further preparation) but they also provide component foods such as delicious broths that you can use in your own home cooking. I volunteered there for about five months, and learned a whole lot about food and diet. Their philosophy includes teaching, and they are good at it. Even though I can't volunteer right now, I still buy their food. They also host a monthly "Full Moon Feast" that features delicious food and interesting speaker. If you're interested in what they do, the Feast is a great way to try the food and meet some of the people responsible for this place. Bottom line: I find Three Stone Hearth a great way to support community agriculture and to give myself great food. read more

The ingredients are as organic as feasible. The kitchen soaks all their grains, nuts and beans. They ferment their own pickles, sauerkraut and kombucha. They use the highest quality oils (butter, olive oil, coconut oil). This is food for people who know about food and who eat for nourishment not just entertainment. I shopped here for the first time today and was not disappointed! The market is small but has everything that I need! I am dairy free, gluten free, and soy free and was able to find a few jars to take home and eat for lunch. I'm eating the Spring Zing salad right now and it's delicious! I love the Ruby Queen Kraut. I was also so so happy to see that they have raw goat cheddar- which is the only kind of cheese I can eat! They deliver, the food comes in waste-free glass jars, it is super nutritious and they sneak in bone broth and organ meat so you don't have to deal with preparing it yourself.
