Really love that you can buy local honey in bulk here. There's a great selection of teas, loose dry herbs, and feminine supplements (menopause, vitamin pH balance, etc.,). I feel like there are two main employees who've been working there for awhile and they are on their A game. Then there's the "others" (cashier's) who seem to hardly notice a customer and seem bothered when you go to checkout or ask them a question. This lovely little natural foods market is staffed with personable & helpful people who are very approachable & knowledgeable. *To update my last review, I should have mentioned that they stopped carrying fresh produce several years ago because it wasn't selling very well.* William's is my go-to place for bulk items (like organic grains, bulk teas, dried fruits, beans, nuts & seeds) as well as convenience items (like kombucha, frozen vegan burgers & vegan cheese.) Their prices are often ridiculously low & I can always count on them to stock a wonderful selection of lotions & hair-care products, as well as plenty of Dr. Bronner's castile soaps. I appreciate that William's always carries Now brand products (including the most delicious, fortified nutritional yeast flakes) as well as Bob's Red Mill flour & packaged grains & cereals. Their chocolate section includes several brands that are on the Food Empowerment Project's "recommended" list & they always have several varieties of vegan ice cream & foods in stock. LIttle-known trivia: William's Natural Foods has been around since the 70's (my best guess) & I remember visiting William's as a tiny little kid - back when the business was located inside Hilltop Mall. I ended up spending about $90 on oils (Vanilla is super expensive). There was a sale of 15% of each bottle which really helped to bring the total cost down. I have been coming to this place since I was a little kid. I remember the old days when they had organic fruits and veggies that were so beat up, that I was shocked that people wanted to buy them. I remember the days of big Bill and little Bill ringing up charges on the old cash registers (there were three aisles). But I went to college, got fancy and started shopping at Whole Paycheck, and the bowl in Berkeley while living in Oakland. My mom still went to Williams. And after my sister rediscovered it, I chose to visit as well. I'm glad that I did. I have since rediscovered their store and realize that they have a lot to offer. They have these line drives that are amazing. The store has been upgraded and looks great. I love the fact that I can get my bulk foods, herbs, vitamins, and teas and that I don't have to drive all of the way to Berkeley to do it. I also like that they have some good prices on things. They no longer have the store in the mall or in Vallejo. They no longer have the wilted, bruised organic produce, however, they are still around, had done a major upgrade and have fantastic prices. I hate giving bad reviews but this is for utter frustration. Today-- Basically, the day after -- THE DAY AFTER... ONE DAY...after I purchased an on-sale enzyme bottle made by NOW that was recommended to me by a man who was one of the store clerks, I returned to store to exchange for a different product, RECEIPT IN HAND and the guy who rang me up remembered me. The pill size was bigger than the picture on the box and I gagged on them twice, with increased severity the second time. There was no way I was gonna force myself to continue. I returned to Williams to exchange for a different product. The man who rang me up just pointed to the "Vitamin Manager", a woman named VEENITA SHARMA, the unfriendly lady in the back. She was not particularly nice to the customer in front of me, a friendly lady who purchased about 7 products and had placed a few on order as well. Veenita did not even smile at her friendly comments. My Turn Next. I did not even receive empathy for gagging on the NOW Enzyme. VEENITA merely said NO RETURNS and pointed to signage on the counter. I never saw that before. No one pointed it out when I bought the product. WHO WOULD EVEN IMAGINE THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WOULD BE SO ROTTEN FOR A PRODUCT THAT GENUINELY PROVES IMPOSSIBLE TO TAKE? I didn't want my money back. I wanted to exchange. Veenita was non-pulsed, cold as ice and unreasoning. I left -- FURIOUS AND SHOCKED. I left the big bottle of too big enzymes (bigger than the picture on the bottle). I left the bottle of different product for which I wanted to exchange the NOW product. I left angry, super frustrated and WITHOUT ANYTHING. Williams has my $30 and the gaggy enzymes. WHEN I THOUGHT ABOUT IT - SIMMERING - I REALIZED that this stupid small business -- or at least the "vitamin manager" Veenita Sharma -- sacrificed building a long-term relationshipo with a prospective customer who lives 5 minutes away for a measly $15 bucks (their cost). NEVER GOING BACK AND TOLD ALL MY FRIENDS. SAD. I would have liked to have supported their small business. NOPE. Very Sad. read more

Williams' Natural Foods is a little haven of health and joy for our Richmond and El Cerrito neighborhoods, especially for vegetarians, vegans, and folks with special diets! I've been shopping at Williams' throughout the pandemic and the before-times, and I'm always happy and impressed that they carry such a delicious array of foods, especially bulk teas, herbs, pastas, sweets, snacks, etc. I'm constantly finding yummy new foods in the frozen food section, and it's fun to try the new organic, raw, and gluten-free products they offer, as well as browse the sale items. I was SO glad when they started pre-bagging bulk products, because during the stretch when we couldn't buy bulk beans, grains, popcorn, nuts, etc. after the shutdown began, my cooking went through some sad times. I've also appreciated their health and safety practices during the pandemic, and I look forward to when the full array of bulk items are available again (loose green tea, please!). Sourcing my non-perishable groceries at Williams' and my fresh produce at farmer's markets/ from a CSA box, I eat like royalty at home, and my body feels wonderful. Thank you so much!! What a find! While William's is far from fancy, I love it because it reminds me of the natural grocery stores of my childhood. They've got most of what you'd find at EC Natural, just on a smaller, more curated level. Most importantly, the prices are noticeable cheaper than Whole Foods and EC Natural. Aside from an impressive selection of health foods, the vitamin selection is huge, plus they've got home, bath, and body products too. The one downside is they don't have any produce (but that's fine because we get our CSA box to complete our shopping). I'll be going out of my way to shop here, as I love the idea of a cute little neighborhood grocery store that's surprisingly more affordable than the big guys! BUYER BEWARE!! This store has very sketchy and deceptive business practices. After marking up products more than 30% higher than the average retail, they offer a "discount"to make you think you're getting a good deal. Example: Garden of Life Women's Probiotics that sell for an average price of $32 elsewhere (I buy them regularly) are $46 here. After the "discount" the price is still several dollars higher! This place was nice for bulk food, herbs, supplements, and seasonings. The pre packaged food items are a little pricey. We came in for some lavender and rose petals to make candles. The back room is full of all different kinds of herbs and hard to find spices at a great price. The employees are really nice. We left with two bags of lavender (great rolled up with cigarettes or other things) and a bag of rose petals for $5. They offer lots of Toms products, like deodorant and toothpaste. I'm glad to see they have a good selection of different scents, I'm all about my Maine Wood Spice deodorant- it smells like hippie Axe :D read more

If I could give this place no stars I would. I bought some items from here during covid and had ask one of the employees what the return policy was if I didn't like it. They told me that I can bring it back with a receipt within 30 days...so I did! But when I took it back WITH the receipt, they told me that due to covid, they could not take the return until everything starts opening up. Come today, I'm being told that I can no longer return it because it's passed the 30 day return window... Serious, get your policy straight. I don't know what kind of business these people are running but this is not ok to be changing YOUR OWN policy based on your feelings. Think twice before walking into this store. read more

I've only been in the store about 5 times but every time the staff weren't very friendly or helpful. Especially unfriendly. I don't know about you but when I spend my money I like it best when the store staff are friendly. I only go there when I am in a big hurry because they are really close to where I live. I don't know if it has changed because I haven't tried again, but one of the first times I went there I asked about a RO water dispenser and you would have thought I asked if they carried something incredibly unusual. They refused to tell me where the nearest place to refill my water jugs. I had just moved to Richmond that week so didn't know where to go. BTW, there are two RO machines for 20 cents a gallon on San Pablo near the Food Max and Big Lots. I go there because the price is sooo affordable. read more

I personally do not like giving negative comments or reviews but the people at the wonderful shop are rude, unwelcoming and have nasty attitudes. I am not sure if it is personal or prejudice. All that I know is that if I find another place to give my money I most certainly will. This review is purely for the customer service. If I could have given it a zero, I would. On my day off 03/9/2018, I stopped to pick up some needed items. I know on average my husband and I spend at least $50.00 a month or more. I placed my items on the register and the thin, small guy with the short dark hair at the first register start scanning my items. He never looked up or greeted me. I spoke and said, you can't even look at me. He said "Do you need me to look at you"? I said I need you to acknowledge me as a customer, ask me if I found everything I needed today,something. He said nothing, and I simply walked out. I'm not sure about you, but when I'm spending my money I would like some type of acknowledgement. I'm not sure what this guy's problem is, he always gives my husband and I a nonchalant look whenever we walk in the store, and never says thank you. He lacks customer service, not to mention just rude. I speculate he's selective when it comes to his customer service, or there lack off. How privilege of him to have a business or work for a company, and can purposely be rude to customers with no worry of circumstances. It appears as though he's projecting his issues off on others. I'm more a fan of the Vitamin Adventure affiliate in Walnut Creek, but this being a grocery store it has some things the Vitamin stores don't. Unfortunately the few times I've been in here they haven't had the products I was looking for... especially the truffle oil! Even healthy people needs to treat themselves! Love love love this place, they literally have almost everything if you're looking to go the organic route. When you walk in the first thing you smell are the organic herbs & spices, which they have a large arrangement of. Every vitamin you can think of & even a small refrigerator section with organic meals. Majority of their staff is very knowledgeable of the store if you have questions. I called ahead to see if they had what I needed and they were more than willing to check and give me prices. When I arrived I was pointed in the right direction and given clear direction on how to navigate that section. This store is great.
