I rented a vehicle for a week for the days between 12/30/2018 and 01/06/2019. The purpose of this rental was for transportation purposes to and from my place of employment as well as to assist me in running of errands necessary to purchase of a new vehicle. I currently work a 12 and a half hour overnight shift with a 1 hour commute time to and from my residence. As you can imagine this makes completing normal tasks like going to the DMV extremely difficult. I picked up the vehicle I had rented on a Sunday. And worked on Monday night into Tuesday morning and then from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning at 7am. The company which I am working for had a conference in Manchester, New Hampshire on Wednesday night until 630pm. When leaving the conference I had stopped at a convenience store in Manchester, New Hampshire. When I got back into the vehicle It would not start. Several warning lights came on as well as a message informing me that I needed to put the vehicle into Park. After trying several different things I eventually got the vehicle to turn on. I drove it one street over, at this point I decided to call the Roadside Number that was given to me at the time of rental. I was informed that the location that I had rented from was a franchise and that I would most likely need to bring the vehicle to the Worcester Airport where I had rented it from. The operator had instructed me to start bringing the vehicle in that direction regardless of me feeling uncomfortable driving it due to the issues it was having and the check engine light being on while they attempted to get ahold of the owner of the location and to call back in a little bit to confirm. After about 20 minuets to a half hour I called the roadside number again to confirm and I was told that they could not get ahold of the owner and to head back toward where I had just came from and go to the Manchester, NH Airport where they could assist me. The employee who helped me at the Manchester Thrifty/Hertz location was very personable and tried to be as helpful as possible. He did inform me however that there was nothing he could do to assist me other than rent me an additional vehicle that would be non-reimbursable. At this point, nearly 4 hours after the vehicle stopped working properly I was instructed to bring the vehicle to the Worcester Airport in the morning when they opened. So my one day off which I had minimal time to complete the necessary things I had to do to get my car on the road I had to wait until I had someone available to follow me from Uxbridge to Worcester as Roadside clearly would have been no help to me if the vehicle stopped working again. This didn't happen until 4PM at which point I had wasted my one day off messing around with a vehicle that should have been more than reliable. I informed the employee at the location of the incident when I had got there to exchange the vehicle. I was offered an SUV, and he took $40 off of the price of my weekly rental. I would have much rather had an economical car as I will be spending much more than that in gas on an SUV and will now need to rent the vehicle for an additional 2 days to complete the things I couldn't complete in the first place. read more
