I show proof of my reservation with pricing and they say "oh no these fees and taxes are wrong they're higher" On a reservation I had made just the day before... So they didn't honor the price AND a young driver fee that was never mentioned during booking (despite entering our age) was added too. I tried reaching out to their customer support and it's just an online form on their website, no email, no option for adding an attachment to show proof. Two days later they still haven't reached out to me. Overall would not recommend, instead find a rental that is more transparent and offers good customer assistance. My Thrifty Rent A Car experience at this STL airport location didn't start out so great, but in the long run it was fine... Upon arrival, we waited for a shuttle for what seemed like forever. In reality, it was probably 20 minutes, but after a 3+ hour flight with two antsy kids, every minute is challenging! Once we arrived to the Thrifty location, we had to wait yet again... There was one employee working her a** off and I felt bad for her but she was a champ with multi-tasking and helping those in line. We finally got our paperwork done and were assigned a car, but had to wait yet again as this place was either short staffed or the employee that was supposed to be working check-out was slacking. After that, however, our car sufficed throughout our stay and when we returned, the shuttle driver was super friendly and fast, as was the checkout process. We did pay a bit of a premium on gas because I forgot to top it off, but I think that happens with all rental car companies! read more

After dropping off the vehicle, they would not provide an invoice and argued saying, "we're busy, we will email it to you...just leave the keys in the car". No invoice was ever received. We contacted them hrs later after receiving multiple texts to remember to return the vehicle that we already returned. They appologized and said don't worry about the texts and we should receive the invoice in just a bit. Three days later we still had not received an invoice and called. They finally sent while on the phone with us but the invoice charged us for 3 additional days and claimed that we had the vehicle up to that moment. The clerk on the phone said he can't help and forwarded to a VM. Aside from billing issues, the staff were eating in the conversing while we were trying to check out. The shuttle van driver complained that he had to turn back for us. The entire experience is not one that we would wish on anyone else....pay a bit more for much better treatment! read more

If I couldn't would give a negative star review! I have been using Thrifty for the past few weeks due to having car issues. I recently used them last week and needed to extend my reservation because I had an unexpected trip planned that may have required me to leave Missouri. I called and asked for the extension but it seemed as if that was a problem! I bypassed that and paid like I was asked and went on about my life! I was due to turn Thrifty there car in 2/3/25 @ 3pm. I made it my business as I always do to get them their vehicle in the we hours of the morning. This particular morning, I stopped by and a car wash and vacuumed out the car to get out the crumb and dirt off the carpets, I stopped by the gas station and filled the tank! I walk into their office and checked in with what I assumed a nice gentleman by the name of Tyler. Tyler went outside and checked the vehicle, came in and stated verbatim "Thanks for filling up and cleaning the car, most people don't do that" He proceeded to check me out, marked the paper and I went on about my day. I misplaced my receipt and called Thrifty 2/5/25 to have an electronic receipt emailed. The guy sends it over and looks at the receipt and see that I HAVE BEEN CHARGED A SMOKING FEE AND FUEL CHARGE!!! HOW TF DO I GET CHARGED FOR SMOKING WHEN I CANT SMOKE! IM ASTHMATIC!!! To throw a smoking fee on me and diabolical!!! I called back up there immediately and spoke to a gentleman, he explains to me that usually the person who checks the car in will have to report it to a manager and the manager has to investigate before they charge the fee. I told him I understood and appreciated him for explaining the protocol as to how a smoking fee is determined. I also explained to him how I never left Missouri and wanted to be refunded those out of state travel fees. He stated that he will speak to his manager about that and that he will forward me to the manager to leave a VM pertaining to the falsified smoking fee. I left the vm and called the following morning. I spoke to who I was told to be the general manager by the name of John. As I'm explaining to John about these charges, he cuts me off to tell that he will need to go investigate the vehicle and get back to me. But just yesterday one of his male reps stated that a manager is who places the charges. So where are the discrepancies coming from!?!? Who TF IS LYING HERE??? I called back to get a follow up from John about this matter and now I feel like I'm being dodged like a sports ball. Now he's at lunch, he left for the day! John calls me back and then tells me that he went out to the car and found some tobacco shavings?? Like huh?? That's don't mean they are mine!!! Wait!! I'm not finished, he also states that they found some thongs tucked away in a backseat pocket that smelled like death!!!!!! He said it left a foul smell. Even if those drawls were mine, that language was distasteful and derogatory to a woman. Especially coming from a manager. I then responded and said I will come in person to show you that I have wayyyy too much ass and I can guarantee that those panties don't belong to me!! Under no circumstances!! So he states that he will refund me on my travel expenses that I didn't utilize and only credit me back $11 of the $350 charge!! Like whatttt, how tf am I not getting all my money back? How have I not left a review for this place yet? Been here about a half a dozen times over the last several years. Always get a great deal! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The facility is clean. Restrooms are well lit, stocked and clean. Free shuttle to and from the airport! The shuttle bus drivers have always been pleasant and safe. Not that I've ever had a problem, but always be sure to document the car before and after, taking now if any scratches or dings are in the car veggie leaving the lot. They will ask you to document as you are leaving, but if you aren't prepared, you could end up signing the ticket without noting any problems. Book ahead online for the best deals. read more

Waited for a shuttle to pick us up for 20 min with another couple who also had a delayed flight. We found out that Thrifty just shuts down at 10:00?! Just stranded until a lovely shuttle person from budget said they probably had some cars No contact number, other than leave a voicemail from Thrifty. Let's start with the pros: 1.The van service was great with friendly, timely drivers. 2.The outdoor attendants also had great customer service and were respectful despite the many glitches in the system. Thus, the one star. Without these pros, I would rate this company as -5 stars. Cons: 1. The reservation desk was awful. They did not honor my reservation for a full sized sedan and I was overcharged. I was handed keys to a "dodge" went outside to see it was a sporty coupe charger that really would not suitable for the purpose of my trip. I requested one of the sedans on the lot & was told those were already reserved. What the what?! Um, like the reservation I had? Then I was told I was being upgraded and was issued a large, raggedy SUV that had damage(dents, scrapes, scratches) on literally every single panel of the car. I declined to accept it--especially since it was not even a sedan. Just too much liability... Next, I was issued keys for a Kia Soul. Problem: I ended up with a compact car but was still charged a full-sized rate. Total ripoff. 2. The next morning awoke to find the silly car would not even start and the way their customer service handled the situation was shameful. When I was trying to leave for the airport in 35 degree temps the car battery was dead! After going through a myriad of people on the phone for over an hour, sitting in a freezing parking garage they offered road side assistance that "COULD show up in a few hours." Um, ma'am, when people are traveling to the airport you don't have exactly hours for to wait for help that may or may not show up. I asked if they could arrange to pick up the car from the garage and issue a refund. The rep checked with a manager then came back and flat responded NO and I would be charged an additional return transport fee" if I left the car at the hotel. I hung up and was left to my own resources to resolve the problem and get to my flight on time. Thrifty's service, quality of rental, and policies are absolutely terrible. Upon pick up, without a greeting or smile, the lady at the counter refused my reservation by claiming that I needed to be the policy holder on a car insurance policy. I brought in the person with whom I am traveling as he has his own insurance. She refused to switch the reservation over to him by saying we needed a physical copy of the insurance card and having it pulled up on his phone does not count (who carries that around??). I said that I saw NO WHERE on the website or email about this, she shut me down by saying that it was on there. After finding an accommodating competitor, I looked up Thrifty's insurance rules. The lady at the front desk either needs completely new training or a stern talking to as, with one google search, their website said I didn't even need insurance to rent a car. The email confirmation mentioned nothing about insurance either. In the end, I am very upset, will use their immediate competitors, and will be calling their corporate line. read more

I had rented a one-day rental from Thrifty Rental Car. I was in town for a funeral. The pickup was noneventful. The drop-off was a nightmare. I had gone to the wrong Thrifty Rental Car location. This is my first time renting a car at Thrifty, second time overall. I had a bad experience previously renting a car so I was prepared for the worst. It was the total opposite! I was picked up from the airport so quick. The staff were so friendly. When I got there, the receptionist was really quick and informed me of all my options with insurance and car protection. I end up paying about $2 more than my quote when I booked. There were no "hidden" fees whatsoever. The car was what I expected it to be. At the car checkout, the staff was very thorough to make sure that they didn't miss any scratch marks or any defects in the car. I was given a 2020 Corolla. Returning it was also very quick and easy. Overall I am super impressed and would definitely recommend to a friend. read more

If I could give one star I would, the woman of color (only to specify because I do not the lady's name or I would mention her, forgive me if that came off racist) at Thrifty had a really bad attitude and she was not helpful at all. I set my car up to be picked up at 7am and when I arrived she told me I had to wait until 9am to get a verbal from my insurance company, they never said anything on the third party site, only at the franchise, she just walked me in circles. Then I told her about her attititude and she said "If I do not like the service she has the right to decline my rental" I apologized to her for my behavior if I was acting a way and decided to not wait until 9am and give my money somewhere worth it. I reserved my car at least a month in advance. When I got there they asked about insurance.i don't have rental insurance coverage with my auto insurance. The lady told me I'm not going to be able to get the rental. I asked if there were other options. She said no. I just emailed back and forth with customer service who told me they are not sure why I was given false information but that it would be reported to the branch manager. I was incredibly hurt when I left. I had a entire weekend planned for my nieces birthday party that seemed like it was about to be ruined. Thank God for other company's that treat you fairly. Initial quoted rental rate was low but ended up being way more than I've ever paid for a rental after overpriced insurance and fees. Thrifty feels a lot like a payday loan shop with signs everywhere about how you must provide proof an airline ticket and full coverage insurance for your personal vehicle (unrelated to your rental, they just want to know). Just experienced the worst car rental with this company! We rented our car in Missouri with an unlimited mileage Clause. First of all we were given an unsafe car, it had 50,000 miles on it, and as it turned out had not been maintained! Maintenance light kept coming on, no water in washer reservoir and to top everything off in that category we had to buy a new tire to replace the defective tire that was on the car! To date we have not been reimbursed for that!!! But the real issue was the unlimited mileage scam. We were never told at check out that to qualify for the unlimited mileage we had to stay in their boundary! We drove from Missouri to Texas and ended up having to pay a GPS finders fee plus $20 a day extra for being out of bounds. UNBELIEVABLE! Had we been told this ahead of time we never would have used this rental company! We ended up turning the car in early and will NEVER rent from Thrifty Car Rental again. I suggest you don't either. If I could have written this review with no stars I would have! Oh by the way. They also would not give us a receipt with our charges when we turned it in! Useless. Sign says they are open until midnight, but they aren't. Which is a pretty big problem. We had a reservation for 11pm, and our flight arrived just after 11. We approached the Thifty desk at 11:30, but nobody was there. A sign said they were open until midnight, and if no one was at the desk we should go outside to the shuttle, which is supposed to run every 10 minutes. We did this, and waited until 12:05, with no shuttles. So we called the 800 number, and we told that all offices were closed, and they would open again at 5:00am. This is long but you will want to read: I had return flight out of St Louis and needed to return the rental car at 6 am. I confirmed with the issuing agent that they open at 6 am on Sunday, their website states 6 am, their sign on the gate states 6 am and I received 3 text messages reminding me to return the car at 6 am. I arrived at 6:15 and no one was there, and the number is to the inside office, which is closed. At 6:50 the shuttle driver showed up and stated that they open at 7 am and have for 3 years. by now 3 other customers were there to turn in cars. The shuttle driver stated she couldn't help us until Brenda arrived. At 7:15 am Brenda decided to show up to work, the shuttle driver assisted my reading the milage and collecting keys. I received an invoice and was told that my $50 deposit would be returned. I boarded my plane and when I landed had a voice mail at 11:45 am stating I didn't return my keys and a $500 charge would be made to my card. 3 minutes later at 11:58 a charge was made to my account for $450. I WAS ON THE AIRPLANE AT 35K FEET AND COULD CALL HER BACK!. I contacted Brenda and stated that her employee took my keys and that I would not be held responsible for the charges. She stated that if the keys were not found I would be responsible. So know that if their employee loses your returned keys you will be held responsible. I called back 20 minutes later (because she wasn't going to call me) and she stated that they found the keys and I would receive a refund. I asked for a statement that I would be refunded and all she did was send me another invoice that was exactly like my first one with no refund info on it. The next day I attempted to contact "Jeff" the site manager who avoids phone calls, doesn't return phone calls and his staff won't go get to discuss the situation. I am now monitoring my account and waiting to see if I truly receive the return. This is not a TRUE Thrifty! It is owned by C&J Rental Inc and there is not contact information. I contact Corporate Thrifty and they acknowledged that they have received serval complaints regarding this location but unfortunately it is independently owned and operated. You may save $20 for your rental here but please trust it is not worth dealing with this location or staff. I gave 1 star because at least they had a car to rent. read more

Avoid this rental. The two women who "service" the counter were rude, obnoxious, and argumentative. They tried to rent me a car that had structural damage, and I could barely fit into it. The lot was full, and barely anyone renting - but they told me I'd have to pay more for another car. My reservation indicated I could get the car they offered or larger for the same fee. In addition to significant damage on all parts of the vehicle - it smelled horrible inside. One agent said she would look into it; I commented the car would be on the lot next year - nothing would be done. In fact, she "checked" the car and declared it rentable -- so if you choose this site, you may get a damaged, smelly, poorly functioning car and get to deal with obnoxious, rude, argumentative agents all for the bargain price of several hundred dollars. APATHETIC -- clearly, it is not "customer service" but "customers SERVE_US" Another agent offered to assist me. She was helpful and put me in a functioning vehicle. When I thanked her and commented I should not have to argue and fight with agents to get a functioning car - she completely agreed. Said they were the rudest, most obnoxious agents she worked with. There was a shuttle available from the airport to take us to Thrifty Car Rental in Saint Ann. The first employee we spoke to warned us to take pictures of the vehicle - inside and out - before we drove it off the lot. That was my first warning that something was not quite right. If goodhearted employees know to warn customers to protect themselves by taking pictures, that is a sign of something very wrong with the company culture. My daughter and I went to look over the first car. It was dirty. There were chips on the floor, mud on seats, and what appeared to be a booger from someone's nose on the driver's side door. Thanks to the Thrifty employee, I can provide photographic evidence. The second vehicle we were given was better, but it was still poorly cleaned and it smelled as if they attempted to cover up cigarette smoke with something else. Again, there were chips on the ground and mud on the seats. It smelled awful. We finally decided to get an Uber to take us to Enterprise Car Rental. We walked back inside and spoke with a different woman this time. I told her that I wasn't sure if there was an issue, but the people who were responsible for cleaning the cars were doing a terrible job. She told me that I wasn't being very nice in a rude tone. I told her that I didn't want another vehicle. I wanted to cancel my rental, so we could take an Uber elsewhere. She told me that they didn't want me there - also in a rude tone - and they would cancel my agreement. Then she went to the back. I walked up to the man behind the desk and I told him that I didn't mean to hurt her feelings, but I do want to make sure the manager is notified. My daughter and I left. We took an Uber to Enterprise Car Rental in Bridgeton, MO on Rock Road. They were wonderful. They were a little more expensive, but it was worth it to have a clean, nice smelling car that was booger free. The employees were also friendly and helpful at Enterprise. As we sat there waiting on a car, my daughter looked at the ratings and comments for Thrifty Car Rental in Saint Ann. They were terrible and similar to our story - dirty cars, rude employees, and customers being accused of damaging cars they say were damaged before they got them. read more

Beware: unlimited mileage does not allow you to take the car out of the region without incurring hefty penalties, and they are all too pleased to lather on those penalty dollars as you stand by helplessly, being interrogated about your itinerary. I travel extensively for work and have used Thrifty almost exclusively for close to five years; this is the only time "unlimited mileage" has not truly meant "unlimited mileage." Worst place to rent a car if you have to deal with certain staff. The cars are nice, clean, safe, run great, etc. 3 of the staff are wonderful people, very friendly, helpful, kind. The woman that handles the desk after 4pm is the most rude, horrendously horrible attitude person you will EVER encounter. She will yell at you and tell you not to give her the paperwork (that the person who took the car just gave you and said "take this to the lady inside"). She sounds atrocious with her way of speaking, lack of respect, and won't even acknowledge you are there unless you start to write something (I was signing where it states "customer signature") that is when she puts her phone down and starts yelling "uh uh, no, what you doin, what you writing" (must have thought we were writing a note on how rude she was). Then she starts saying I don't want that! (the car detail receipt where you list if it had damage). Finally, when I said, ok, if you don't need it, you can throw it away (meaning just that, it can be thrown away if you don't need it) she yells back NO YOU can throw it away. Clearly doesn't understand basic sentences and thinks people are trying to tell her what to do.
