Straightforward and simple. I mixed up the arrival of my flight and they were very accommodating and pushed my pickup date later.

When I showed up at the Thrifty counter at Toronto airport at my pick up time with my elderly parents ( one in a wheelchair) on our way to my son's convocation, I was told that they had canceled my reservation because they didn't have a car for me. No apology, no offer to assist, just " we canceled your reservation. I had prepaid so when I was asked for a refund I was told to ring customer service. When I rang them, they told me that I had to call their 3rd party collection company, CarTrawler, for a refund. That was 2 months ago and I can't get a refund because Thrifty haven't sent the info Car Trawler needs to issue the refund. I've handed this over to my credit card company who told me they get these complaints for Thrifty all of the time. Thrifty is owned by Hertz so do yourself a favour and go to Budget or Enterprise. My saviour was the Budget guy at the next desk who heard my conversation with Thrifty, found me a vehicle and charged me the same rate as Thrifty. read more

On Sept 8th we returned the rent a car to the Calgary airport, few hrs later I realized I left my very expensive sunglasses in the car. As soon as we landed in Vancouver I spend hours calling, emailing every Thrifty location in Calgary and Vancouver to ask for help. I even paid their recovery agency 35.00 us to help me! Guess what no one got back to me?! Hard to believe and or understand this kind of behaviour . Those glasses were very expensive and clearly who ever kept them knew that. However those glasses were priceless to me as it was a gift from someone special who is no longer alive. On March 16 my mother rented a car from here and left a pair of glasses in the cup holder of one of their vehicles. We followed all the website's instructions on attaining the lost item but have not heard anything back yet. Furthermore, it is impossible to speak to a representative if you have any concerns with this location; I have called their phone multiple times and have heard nothing back yet. Clearly thrifty doesn't clean their cars when they are returned! Diabetic needle and looks like a cap for insulin? Called the 604 number, transferred to Oklahoma 1hour 13 min to find my reservation, by this point I was so vested I had to see where this was going. So I had a reservation number, and a contract #, she still couldn't find my reservation or car? Frustrating for sure. She said that all three divisions or departments of thrifty are not connected. Customer service, roadside and reservations. Ya think you could tie these in these days. They did, finally issue me a credit for 50% of the rental after I dropped it off. Thrifty Rent A Car - Car Rental Near Me - Vancouver, British Columbia

We booked a car online through Expedia, and then our flight was delayed 3 days. We called our specific airport Thrifty location to let them know we were delayed, but would still be picking up our reserved car. They said no problem and made note of the new flight info. That was the call. When we arrived to pick up the car, already 3 days behind on our trip, we were quoted a price that was FOUR TIMES higher than our Expedia rate. We contacted Expedia who still had our booking, and Expedia confirmed our original rate was correct... however Thrifty refused to honor it because we'd "changed dates." Apparently when we called to let them know of the delay, they'd created a new booking with a new rate without telling us or sending us a confirmation email with a new price. There was absolutely no mention of a price change whatsoever. We stayed at the Thrifty counter for over an hour talking to unhelpful Thrifty employees on the phone. Finally the one excellent person in this saga - Raj, the wonderful onsite Thrifty representative - talked to his manager and honored our original price. Unfortunately we lost another hour of our already-shortened trip fighting the surprise Thrifty rate, and who knows what would have happened if Raj couldn't help us (we certainly weren't able to pay 4x the price, especially since Expedia agreed that the original price for the booking was accurate). Additionally, two Thrifty phone representatives hung up on us while we were calling them to deal with the situation, and in the end we didn't get the kind of car we'd booked. We'd paid for a small SUV (Rav 4) but gotten an enormous Toyota Highlander. If we'd paid 4x the price... the car on our booking still wasn't available! There were no small SUVs in the lot. We had to take the enormous Highlander (which we did not feel comfortable driving). Ultimately, we'll never rent with Thrifty again... but while this is a one-start review for the company, it's a five-star review for Raj, who saved the day! read more

I returned to Vancouver last weekend and needed to rent another car. I steered way clear of Thrifty/Dollar after the rip off experiene the last time I was there. I rented from Budget right next to them and low and behold they didn't try to up sell or scare me about the snow even though it was dumping out. The bill I paid when I dropped off the car was exactly what I was quoted online. Thrifty in Vancouver are a bunch of thieves just walk 10 feet to your left and rent from budget and all will be fine :) read more

I've rented over 50 cars in my lifetime and have never had an experience like this. First, you're waiting in line for an hour to get your car. They gave me a car that basically had marks all over the paperwork showing little scratches, dings, etc. The entire car was marked up, so when you do your walkthrough, it appears that everything has been noted. There is no attendant in the parking lot, so even if you do see something that should be marked, you would have to wait another hour to tell them about it. You just drive out of YVR, no gate attendant or anything. As if this wasn't bad enough, when I returned my car, the lady checks me out with no problems. I think I'm done with this whole ordeal. A month later, I get a letter from Thrifty saying I damaged their rare bumper. WTH??? Do you know how many people could've driven that car in a month? Tried explaining my case to them and all they want to ask me is "how will you be handling these repair charges." SCAM SCAM SCAM!! read more

worst experience renting anything ever! when renting the car I had thought we went over everything that would be in the cost. I even said to the person at the till that it shouldn't be to much more that 800-900 dollars. he said probably! what he forgot to mention was that insurance was not included in that price (for 400 dollars for 11 days!) and that there was a 30 percent airport tax on top of everything! my total came to 2000 dollars for renting a piece of s@!% car for 10 days! when I called customer service they were rude said they would call back and never did. these jokers should be charged for fraud read more

My flight was delayed so my arrival at the rental car pickup was delayed. The staff all went home early. I had to wait until 6 am the next day to pick up my rental. I called the main reservation office. The staff were supposed to be there. This place is awful. read more

We booked a car at Thrifty through Rentalcars.com to be picked up at YVR Airport. Thrifty added several extra's without any kind of prior notice, while we only requested one additional driver. When asked for additional insurances or any kinds of extra's whatsoever, we explicitly said no. Assuming that the bill only contained what was verbally agreed to, and that we payed for everything we wanted well in advance in the form of a package deal, I signed the contract. At the end of the rental period, I noticed additional fees had been charged on my credit card. Fees that, again, we were never informed about nor we ever asked for, or gave our permission for to be added. Upon multiple inquiries, Rentalcar's customer service just replied 'we cannot do anything about this'. Very unhelpful and moreover extremely misleading. Both parties didn't show any sign of understanding nor recognition of these scam practices. Costs that were added without any prior notice or consent included "Personal Accident Insurance", "Premium Emergency Roadside Service" and "Concession Pass Thru fee" totaling an substantial amount of CAD228.
