We came here with a giant group for restaurant week. It was a prix fixe menu. My friend and I shared our dishes to maximize the experience. For apps, we got calamari and dumplings. For entrees we got sushi and salmon with a peanut sauce. For dessert we got creme brulee and chocolate cake. The calamari was okay, it was flavorful but the breading was extremely soggy. The dumplings were not good. It was mostly dough and the stuff inside was not flavorful. The salmon, I kind of liked the peanut sauce. The sushi rolls, one was fried on the outside with cream cheese. At first it was good, but it got too greasy. The other roll was a salmon roll, which was pretty good. The chocolate cake was chocolate cake. I'm not a huge fan of desserts. All in all, I think I've had much better. I don't know if it's because I'm extremely critical of asian food because I'm asian, but I would not come here again, nor do I recommend trying it. Not only that, parking was $5 because it's downtown and I don't think there's any way to get around paying for parking. read more

We got done with business and spent an hour looking for a good place within walking distance. We settled with Thrive. As we were walking from downtown we noticed it getting a little seedy. Luckily we had just made it. We didnt make a reservation and they were booked up, but they did have 2 seats in the bar. Thank goodness, we were hungry. The bartender let us know that they had an unexpected rush and the kitchen was backed up for 30 mins. That was fine since we were in no rush. I ordered the lamb shank and my coworker ordered the tuna. They came out quicker than 30 mins, which was nice. Pretty and tasty dish. Lamb was fall off the bone tender and the polenta and sauteed greens were great with it. My coworker loved her Tuna dish. She said the black rice was a little underdone, but when eaten with the Tuna, it was great texture. There were a few homeless people who came to the bar and just stood there a few times and said nothing then left. And then another man was asked to leave and he attacked the security. If it wasnt for that happening right by me, I would have given 5 stars. Bartender was absolutely lovely. I think her name was angelique or something like that. read more

Conveniently located in downtown Atlanta by the Arena, Thrive was a great spot to have dinner. We went in on a groupon, 2 apps, 4 entrees, 4 glasses of wine and 2 desserts. For a party of 4, it was plenty of food. We started with the calamari, which came with the sauce on top and peppers. The sauce was good, but it did soggy the calamari a little (which was all rings). We also go the heirloom tomato starter which was tasty and very light. The entrees were split down the middle, 2 filets with french fries and chimichurri sauce and 2 duck breast with vegetables and orange marmalade sauce. All dishes were cooked to perfection and was full of multi-note flavors which all blended very well together. They only serve 2 desserts- Flourless cake with vanilla bean ice cream and a dessert that was like a frozen tiramisu made coffee ice cream. Both were very good. Overall, we really enjoyed the meal, environment and the wait staff was attentive and thoughtful. We will definitely go back. read more

I would first like to start off by saying, the sushi was good. We ordered the Teriyaki Fried Chicken Sushi as an appetizer and it was delicious!! I reviewed the menu and our server recommended the braised lamb shank, which was pretty good. I asked our server if the mac and cheese was anything out of the norm, and she said "no". I'm real simple when it comes to mac and cheese, but not that simple. When I received my plate, I instantly noticed the mac and cheese. They served my meal with Kraft Velveeta Shells and Cheese from the box. I was beyond surprised! I've never been to a restaurant where they serve box mac and cheese on the adult menu. I've been to some chain restaurants where they serve boxed mac and cheese on the kids menu, but this was a complete surprise. I expected more from this establishment. If the Executive Chef does not know how to make macaroni and cheese, I would suggest googling a simple recipe. I would have rated 4 stars for the overall service, but serving Kraft mac and cheese was an epic fail. P.S. I reviewed the pictures the restaurant posted and the mac and cheese I received was nothing like the pictures provided. Came to Thrive for lunch on Wednesday 9/5/18. This place is directly across the street from the State Bar of Georgia so its super convenient for lawyers. Small setting inside but a pretty busy lunch crowd. The service and the food was impeccable! I dined with two other attorneys and had the tuna nicoise which was phenomenal! The others in our party had the spider which i tried and was also delicious, and the veggie plate. One of the owners even came over to greet us and check in our experience. This place deserves 0 stars! Ate here last night after attending at football game at the nearby stadium. I was very surprised that we were able to get a reservation for 6 on a Saturday night when 70,000+ people would be in the immediate area. But I was able to book a table the 3 days before. Now we got to the restaurant about 45 minutes before our reservation thinking there would be no way we would get seated early but figured we'd have a drink or two and wait. Well, when we go there the place was mostly empty, which we found kinda of strange, so we asked if we could be seated early and they said they would do their best. Ok, sounds good, we proceeded to go the bar for drinks. Ordered 2 drinks off their limited special cocktails menu, a vodka and cranberry and a sea breeze, well the bar tender didn't know what a see breeze was, she then proceeded to give a us grapefruit and vodka...perhaps this should have been our second clue to leave. We sat down and waited about 25-30 minutes until they sat us at our table. Again the place was still mostly empty. Our waitress was actually fairly attentive and seem to want to do her best. She took our drinks orders, this time we tried to order 3 mojitos and a another specialty cocktail. She came back after about 10 minutes And said the bar tender couldn't make mojitos, so the order Was changed to Moscow Mules. 5 minutes later the MM were delivered but not my specialty cocktail, a drink off their special menu, surely the bartender must know how to make it, I mean she had made one for me earlier. In the meantime we placed our dinner orders, 5 people ordered sushi and one person ordered a cheeseburger with cheddar cheese and bacon. Clue # 3 should have been a place that has sushi and burgers on the menu. After about and additional 15 minutes of waiting for my drink I asked the waitress and she said she would check, few minutes later she brought the drink and said the bar tender had forgotten to make it. And this time it was completely different then the first one she made. Our appetizer finally arrived about 4O minutes after we placed our order. It was suppose to be crispy rice, but instead was fried way too long and inedible. It was like someone left a frozen tater tote in a deep fryer way too long and it became hard as a brick. Another 20 minute wait and our dinners started to arrived , yes after about an hour they started to arrive piece meal, first came the burger and one sushi roll. Now the burger was suppose to be cheddar cheese and bacon, instead it had one slice of process Kraft cheese and no bacon, the sushi' was meh, a fried roll that was also fried too long but not as bad as the crispy rice. After about 10 minutes another 2 dishes were delivered, another 10 minute wait and another dish arrived. So at this point 5 out of the 6 of us had been served. The breaking point came when they started to deliver food to tables that were seated after us, well well after us. I went up to speak with the hostess and explain our frustration at what we had experienced so far. Well I was told that we should not be complaining because they had just introduced some new items the menu and they were having difficulty with them. I ask if I could speak to the manager or owner and she told me that he was standing there and had walked away, didn't want to hear the complaints. With some many places to eat, please give your business to a place that values it. I know that all restaurants are struggling in the current environment but this was beyond ridiculous. The waitress did remove some of the items from our check but it did not make up for our ruined, inedible dinners. read more

I attempted to setup a private event as suggested by one of the staff members of the restaurant due to my large party number (20 guests). The staff member told me to send her an email with the number of guests along with my desired budget and they would let me know what they could do within that budget. I was told the owner would contact me within 24 hours. I called every day after my request as I wanted to try to get everything setup and inform my guests. After four days I was finally able to get ahold of the owner. He was rude and told me that he could not accommodate my budget of 35 per person inclusive of tax and gratuity. The only reason I even gave this number is because the staff member told me to tell email my budget and they would work around it. His dismissive tone was very offensive. Further I am confused as to why the staff member would tell me to send my budget if they would refuse to work around the budget. I was prepared to pay for 20 guests at $35 a person. Someone please tell me was my request unreasonable? Seriously. Every staff member that I spoke to was extremely pleasant EXCEPT THE OWNER. I suggest you do a better job of informing your staff of how your business really works. Unfortunately I still have to find another place for this dinner. What a let down. read more

The worse service I've had in a long time. I always order the same food each time being that I work in the building and I order a lot being that It's convenient. I ordered the salmon sandwich and stated no fries add veggies. I've done this before and was not charged extra. As I am picking up my food, which by the way took 30 min with only having 1 table, the guy with the blonde hair who takes his time to bring the food up hands me a check for 3.27 and tells me "this is for the veggies". I asked why bc I've ordered this before and his response is very abrupt stating "no i told u before I'll do this just this once but next time it's a fee." For one I always order online only so there were no dialogue between him and I. And i do not have twin I told him he did not and he went back and forth with me stating he told me. He has the worse customer service skills I've seen in a long time. I wish I knew his name but he cashed out as am server. As convenient as it is I will not be giving my money to this restaurant ever again and I'll make sure to let my friends and coworkers know. Enjoyed My experience on a Friday evening. The place was pretty much empty. We came in from the Glenn hotel across the street with a crowd of about 10 people. Although they dont seem to be used to a busy Fri evening they were accommodating. The severs took drink and food orders within the first 15 mins. The flash fried teriyaki rolls were great and So was the Mac and cheese. I had the melon cocktail which was tasty. The food came out quickly. We hung out at the front bar area. We had a late lunch here. We are visiting from Florida, so we were excited to check it out. I mean Southern fare and sushi? No brainer... My wife had the farm to table veggie plate so she could easily share it with our 1 year old daughter. They both liked it a lot. I had the Chef's special sushi plate. It had smoked salmon, tuna, and eel. I'd never had eel, so I didn't know if I would like it. I know now. The waitress was very friendly and patient. When I went to go feed the meter, the matre'd/manager let me know they would validate if I parked in the garage. That's what I did. They gave me a copy of a $10 bill, but it worked. I came to Thrive on a Tuesday night with a large group during a conference I was attending in Atlanta. The environment is super trendy and decorated pretty cool. We had to make a reservation after unsuccessfully trying to get in the night before (but I get it, we had like 10 people). The hostess and manager welcomed us nicely while they got our table ready. This only too a few minutes, and actually a surprise two people decided to join us, so the staff did a great job accommodate that request on the fly. I immediately had to use the bathroom, which was one stall (I hate that because there is always a line, especially for the ladies room). It was clean. Our table was in the main dining room which had a really cool full wall mural that changed depending on the light shined on it. The menu is half southern comfort food and half sushi, which I thought was a neat idea. Our server came over and he was fabulous and friendly. He was smart too, my boss is a BIG BEER drinker and doesnt like for his drinks to fall below the label. I wish I could remember the servers name but he did a great job keeping. Im pregnant right now, so he suggested a fun mock-tail that had some kind of pear juice in it that was delicious! He said only he and one of the female bartenders knew how to make it! I really appreciated being offered something besides water and tea! We ordered calamari, fried green tomatoes and potstickers for appetizers. They were all good but the fried green tomatoes were amazing! I ordered two cooked sushi rolls: The Teriyaki Fried Chicken roll which was a flash friend (not the whole roll) with Fried Springer Mountain Chicken and Avocado On Top drizzled with Teriyaki sauce, and the Shrimp Tempura Roll which had Tempura Shrimp, Crab, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Spicy Mayo, and Teriyaki Sauce. Both rolls were amazing! My friend had the Togarashi Crusted Tuna (which I couldn't try) but she said it was absolutely amazing! My other friend really enjoyed the Lowcountry Style Shrimp and Local Grits. The prices were about right for a trendy dinner place. The hostess didn't even attempt to try to accommodate us by verifying with a supervisor or a gesture to check a list or calendar. However, the staff behind the bar didn't come visit us frequently enough and when they did, it didn't seem like they actually wanted to wait on us. I would've ordered more drinks more frequently if they'd just come visit us more often. My dining partner's cocktail was too sweet, then they doctored it to make it too sour. Thrive has the gwwaargous decor and interior that J.D. talks about - swathed in white and chrome, it's the epitome of modernity, and I can really see some sort of music video being shot here. But that's where the personality ends. We went on a weekend night for drinks to check the space out, and save a few other dinner parties, it was fairly empty. Their website says that they open til 2 a.m. (for the 'lounge' aspect of their 'food - drinks - lounge' concept), but after a few hopeful looks from the wait staff, we finally left as the last customers still in there at 12:30 a.m. I can't speak to the quality of the food, as I came here for drinks only. But Thrive, please get some more people in here and improve the food. You can do this. You've got so much potential underneath that glossy chrome. read more

Went here today for lunch and it was actually very good. I like the space very much, although the design itself has the risk of being very dated very soon. The edamame was, well, eda-YUMMY! Really, really good - I liked that it was out of the pod and very spicy with chunky pieces of salt that tasted almost sweet - very unique and delicious. I've eaten here a couple times (since they're located at the bottom of my building) and I've yet to be impressed on anything they have to offer or their customer service. I've done take out, dine-in and happy hour. I've eaten most food items on the menu and the only thing above par is their salads. I used to do take out when it rained (to save the walk from getting wet) but I now avoid this place. It might as well be a cemetery to me. I always feel sorry for the people that waste their money here. Drinks are overpriced and so is the food. If you're really wanting to try it out, stick with a salad. read more

Sorry to do this to you Thrive, but here is 1 lousy star. The atmosphere was very nice and service was attentive. I tried the chicken pot stickers, the Alaskan Halibut, and finally the Crispy apple fritters with caramel sauce. The pot stickers themselves were ok, a bit dry, but the Thai chili sauce just set it off. That sauce was great. The Halibut was also cooked exceptionally well; crispy outside and super tender inside. But the 1 star was due to the Crispy apple fritter dessert. Just disgusting. I can't believe they are serving this to customers. I don't know, maybe mine was bad but it made me so sick. OK, maybe I should up my star rating, maybe I'm being too harsh. But if you want to exude excellence then you have to accept harsh criticism and you can't serve your patrons fried BS and pass it off as edible. No, no, no, not acceptable. read more

I am not the biggest on great decor, but this place was actually pretty hot. The colors are on point, and it just gives the feeling of cleanliness (what can i say i dont ask for much...). The hostess was very cool, the wait staff was great. This is a perfect spot for after work/late night drinks. The sushi is fresh and creatively delivered, seems like a place you'd see somewhere in LA or NY, but conveniently its sitting right downtown. read more

I've been to Thrive four times now. There has been a definite improvement since Valentine's Day dinner. They were not prepared for that night! Now, the place seems to be getting a good amount of business from the downtown lunch crowd. The restaurant is located in the bottom of the Centennial Towers. This is a prime location to conferences at the GWCC and nearby downtown businesses. The food is great- and they give decent portions for the price. They have a New American/Southern menu with a sushi bar. In the evening, the place -supposedly- transforms from a restaurant to a lounge. My friend celebrated her 30th birthday here. It's a fairly new venue so why not, right? Well it was interesting to say the least. Of course our group is going to have fun wherever we go, but the restaurant could work on a few things. First off it seems as if they forgot that they they took the reservation for the birthday party. Just the day before the bash, the person coordinating the birthday get together had gone to the restaurant and let them know about 10-15 of us would be there for drinks and appetizers. The night of the party the hostess tells us there is supposedly a party of 30 who already booked the section and that we may have to move. Oddly enough the "party of 30" never showed up and we didn't have to move. We slowly and methodically took over the bar area...one barstool at a time. The bartenders were a little less engaging than I'd expect for a place like this. Not very talkative or friendly. The service was decent, it just seemed they were more interested in talking to each other behind the bar than the people sitting in front of it. The only redeeming part for Thrive was the sushi. It was enough to make me want to go back solo at some point because the rolls were that good. They were a little cheaper than some of the other places I go so I felt like this could be a new place to fulfill my random sushi cravings, but I'm not sure I'd suggest this for a group outing again. Parking is a little suspect around here during the week and especially if there is an event at Phillips Arena. Updated: 9/11/2007 Have to make this update....I was here about two weeks ago for a happy hour and why did they try give me something other than what I ordered to drink!?! For the first round I had a Bacardi raspberry on the rocks. Well, when it came time for the second round they brought something out that didn't quite taste right. Well when I inquired the server took it away and comes back only to tell me that the bartender ADMITTED to running out and trying to give me something else instead. Do people in Atlanta have an idea what a sushi restaurant should be? It's certainly not a place that serves mostly rolls AND sandwiches on the same menu. The reason why I didn't give one star review: Cucumber salad although very basic, was plentiful and good. That ends the list of good points. This place (and apparently its patrons) has no idea what crab is and instead serves cheap crab imitation (pressed artificially died white fish). However they fail to indicate anywhere this vast difference in the ingredients. Any normal sushi place would have some lunch special where chef picks his own sashimi/nigiri for whatever is freshest on that day. Not the case with this place. I finally convinced dysfunctional waiter to let the chef decide. What arrived was thick sashimi slabs of _same_ fish and then 2 nigiri or _same_ fish. The slabs were borderline cubes so I had to use fork and knife to cut them. Nigiri was also ridiculous large. When I peeled fish off, the underneath rice patty was so misshaped like whoever made it never made nigiri in their life. I had to cut nigiri in half with fork and knife as well to fit in my mouth. My friend ordered (if I remember volcano) roll that was also ginormous and tasteless. I ate probably no more than 20% of my order because it was so gross and tasteless. Sushi restaurants tend to have chefs working in front of customers to demonstrate the cleanliness and skills but here the kitchen was nowhere to be seen. The waiter as nice as he tried to be, failed to communicate that the item "4 sashimi and 2 nigiri $6" was in reality $12 for both. Overall horrible food, definitely NOT a sushi joint. Im not quite sure why this place gets such negative reviews, while I agree its nothing to stand out and make memories, but its certainly worth a shot if you're in the area and would like to grab a bite and drinks before a game a the Dome or an event at Philips Arena... I used to work in the building, so I would frequent here a bit for lunch. I especially liked the after work mixer! My friends would meet me here after leaving their office and we'd grab a few drinks and apps before beating the rush hour traffic on Fridays! Also on Tuesdays, Armada Magazine used to have events here, so it would draw a good crowd, and they would have free sushi set out for everyone. While not quality, a nice gesture none the less! The Thrive Salad is AWESOME!! and Def a fav of mine! Generally I'd get it with the Chicken Sandwich as a combo, it was quite tasty as well, although sometimes the bread would be dry... There was also another salad I really enjoyed with goat cheese (I believe) and pickled apples, but I no longer see it.. bummer. For dinner? I reallllly enjoy the calamari here, Im not normally a calamari fan, but I love the sweet chili aioli pared with it (although I know this is nothing new..) The Lemonkani roll was very refreshing, and of course, citrusy! I think the Vesuvius Roll was quite innovative, and absolutely delicious!
