Trying to move forward, I asked what he specialized in, and he said he'd "come up with something." I agreed--but very clearly stated: no rum, because my body does not react well to it. After watching him make drinks for people who ordered after me, he eventually handed me a cocktail I never even saw him prepare. That already raised a flag. I took a few sips, and sure enough--my stomach immediately started reacting the exact way it does when I've had rum. When I asked what alcohol he used, he said, "I don't even know." We are from Jersey and I had been searching for something to do so I found this place and we went, and I wanted to get the whole experience of being able to take pictures in the booth. However, when we arrived, someone quickly rushed us inside. He even entered the passcode instead of allowing us to do it and get the experience.. This is the first "speakeasy" I've been to that legitimately doesn't look like an obvious bar. Walking inside is like stepping into the past. Dark wood, leather couches, and the smell of cigar smoke sets the tone as you settle in for something special. I normally do not drink liquor, but made an exception because I was with friends. And you need a code to get it. I love that kind of old school stuff. So, I got the code and in we went and smoked, drank and laughed all night. That's called living!!!! In town visiting friends and thought it would be cool to check this place out. Cool concept and nice atmosphere, but the drinks were not up to standard for a speakeasy. The drinks were watery and lacking in flavor and cocktails that were served in rocks glasses were filled with small chunks of ice which quickly melted and watered down the drink even more. For a speakeasy bar to not have large form ice cubes in cocktails is inexcusable. The service was barely OK and once the server realized that we weren't going to buy another round of bad drinks, she disappeared until I had to track her down to get our check. Would not recommend this place. The one we went to in Buckhead a couple of years ago was a much better experience. read more

I understand having a dress code, but when you open the door to a customer and immediatelly insult them and think that that's OK... you probably retrain your front of the house staff. Totally unexpected and random speakeasy. We were staying at The Ritz during the Peach Bowl and after the game, we knew that everywhere downtown would be packed and we were right. Being that the game was on New years day, a few places were closed. After going by three establishments, we stopped by Amalfi and were quoted with a 2 hour wait. While standing in the stairwell checking Opentable and Resy for reservations, we were approached by someone that shared a college affiliation with a member of my party. We were then offered a chance to come to the speakeasy where they shared the same menu as Amalfi! What a stroke of luck! We exited Amalfi and entered the "red phone booth" outside, entered the code and were granted access. I cannot stand strong smoke, especially cigarettes and while too much cigar smoke can affect me, I got over it and enjoyed our time in this super cool spot. After a while, I did not smell anything, however, the next day, my clothes and my hair did not let me forget. This place is pre-prohibition which I love. We had the first word, the last word, old fashioned's and the st. germaine margarita. The drinks were crafty and delicious. The music selection was not a good selection . It was more like TV show themes of music. This was my 2nd time here since last time i was in the area i was absolutely amazed!! This place is really cool. The smoked old fashioneds were well worth the price. I mean...they cut their own reverse osmosis ice and it's fun to watch from the bar. They have a nice cigar selection in their humidor and even with all of is smoking in the lounge, the air filtration system handled it just fine. Our server was great, but then got a little unprofessional towards the end. Wait time for drinks was about 25-30 minutes, and drinks were delivered to the wrong people so some were left without a 2nd drink. Towards the end, it seemed like the waitress was trying to hustle us to buy her drinks...and was way different than she was when we first came in. When paying the bill, there were a bunch of fees that were not disclosed on the POS machine, but maybe i just didnt scroll down and see them.
