I've been doing cryo for the last 4 months and have tried a variety of places in Los Angeles, New York City, park city and now here in Rockville md. I wouldn't say the thrive was my favorite in my cryo travels simply because I didn't feel like it was super cold. That being said. Just having cryo is awesome and I love going. The healing benefits on my body and inflammation have been great. Lauren was great and very friendly and I was able to get in and out in fairly short order. I think one other review griped about false medical claims. My view is that alternative therapy can always have an element of voodoo and it might not work for some. I've found it great personally but I don't believe for a second claims of elevated calorie burn etc. Give it a try. First two sessions are $60 or $30 a piece which is a great deal. read more

Had such a COOL experience at yesterday This was the first time I tried cryotherapy which is where the body is exposed to extremely low temperatures (for 1-3 minutes) to trigger the body's mechanisms of self-protection, self-recovery and self-rejuvenation. It's kinda like taking an ice bath or standing in a really cold refrigerator which is great for athletes or anyone who consistently workouts out. This is my first time. I read all about it and wanted to try it out. I went to the studio in Annapolis. It was a bit hard to find for me while driving. It's located on the second floor, above PetSmart. Once I found it, the whole process was quick. Completed an easy one-paged health form. And met Ashely, the manager shortly after. She explained everything I needed to know and then I was in the machine in and out x3 mins. Changed, signed up for next time. Done! Everything was completed in 15 mins. I've now gone 3 times to Thrive CryoStudio at Symmetry Salon Studios (Rockville). I'm now starting to bring some friends (see pics). Brandon and Kim are great. Very informative, safe, helpful and fun! They take my blood pressure and make sure all my questions are answered. The space is upscale, clean and professional. A very friendly receptionist. It's easy to find with lots of parking in the garage next door. I posted a pic of the front of Symmetry Salon Studios. The treatment is cold but not bad. Brandon and Kim talk you through the 3 minutes and the time goes quickly. So happy I tried cryotherapy the first time with Thrive CryoStudio. The lobby is super cute, sharing space with various beauty studios. Brandon is very cheerful and super smart. He will walk you through and explain simply (or in more detail, if you are a geek like me) what to expect. It was cold - but not as badly as I expected - and you recover pretty quickly (again, Brandon has tips for this). I have been sleeping so much better now. BTW: I tried a different studio when I was traveling and got a little freezer burned. Their machines were older and disbursed the nitrogen in a more concentrated way than at Thrive (even though they hit the same temperatures). read more

Wow what can I say this is truly amazing. I always saw professional athletes using this after a hard workout and didn't think it was something I'd ever try till I was introduced to it. I work out 6 days a week and it takes a toll on your body after a while. The owner Brandon informed me about the effects of cyrotherapy and after a brutal leg workout I went and gave it a shot. It's like taking a ice bath to relive your aching joints and sore muscle without the effects and shock of getting ice water all over your body. Felt amazing after it and recovered quickly. I wanted to try cryotherapy after first seeing it on a 24/7 episode, featuring Floyd Mayweather to speed up his recovery. Later, I listened to a Tony Robbins interview who owns one. I have tried Thrive Cryotherapy. They also visited my gym twice and let the members try it for free which was nice. While cryotherapy and cryochambers may be fun and make you feel good, I want to let others know who may also go to this business that the company is making medical claims about the sessions and these medical claims are NOT proven. Cryotherapy can be fun and invigorating, but the cold air diffuses and doesn't really penetrate the tissue. When I tried it, I noticed that the cooling wasn't as effective as when I use cold packs and cold soaks and cold wraps for my arthritis in my knees (thank you cross country). I think all businesses should be honest in their marketing and not claim to do things that aren't proven. I didn't like that the waiver I had to sign states that "this document constitutes the entire agreement regarding your participation in [Whole Body Cryotherapy aka "the Activity"] and supersedes ALL PRIOR DISCUSSIONS AND REPRESENTATIONS ABOUT THE USE, BENEFITS, OR THE RISKS of [Whole Body Cryotherapy aka "theActivity"]." Statement 5 of the waiver contradicts the claims on the web site because the statement says "NO REPRESENTATIONS OR CLAIMS ARE MADE AS TO THE THERAPEUTIC NATURE OR OTHER BENEFITS OF THE ACTIVITY. THE ACTIVITY IS NOT INTENDED TO DIAGNOSE, TREAT, CURE OR PREVENT DISEASES, ILLNESSES, IMBALANCES, OR DISORDERS." Hmmmm, then why does the flyer you gave us state "Benefits of Cryotherapy: relieves pain associated with arthritis & fibromyalgia; decreases severity of migraines; lessens symptoms of psoriasis...." The list of claims goes on further but you get my drift: it's a contradiction. All I'm saying is this: cryotherapy may feel good and be fun and invigorating, but that doesn't make the claims kosher especially for those of us who do suffer from these conditions you advertise as benefiting from your services. To the owner: yes, these claims, which are also on Thrive's web site and in the studio, are medical claims even if they aren't claiming to cure anything - e.g., helps reduce migraine symptoms, reduces symptoms of psoriasis. read more

It was my first time ever, I want to share that I was trying from a long time ago but I was so nervous and scared that I didn't want to make it but I took the decision and I choose this chain (Rockville) and the staff was so friendly and welcome to this experience that those 3 minutes went so fast while she explained the whole process to me and I didn't feel anything (obviously was cold but nothing extreme), I just enjoyed my time inside the machine with the great explanation and I recommend it 100%. read more

This was definitely a "cool" experience! I saw some friends post a picture on facebook about Thrive and they raved about how good they felt. To be honest I was a bit skeptical, but my monthly visitor (yes that visitor) came and I was dealing with a headache and some pretty bad cramps. I decided to go give this a try, figuring I had nothing to lose. It was a clean environment and the guy was very nice and informative. He walked me through what to expect and asked me questions that made me feel more comfortable through the intake process. It definitely looks more intimidating and cold then it really was. So my husband works out hard at least 4 days a week and plays Judo on top of that. In a nutshell, he puts his body through physical hell weekly. At this point, I'm used to him coming home with some injuries/bruises and iceing himself in order to recover. He decided to supplement all this physical work by purchasing a couple of trial sessions at Thrive after seeing how it's caught on with athletes of all levels. He reports to me that he loves it! He likes Brandon the owner and is planning on going back on a regular basis to see what the long term effects are. I have friends in California that swear by cryotherapy, so I decided to finally try it after hearing about Thrive. They have a first time customer special, which is 2 treatments for $40 (I thought it would cost a lot more than this). This review is based off of my two visits. Going in I didn't know what to expect to be honest. I was a bit nervous and a bit excited at the same time. The staff here are great. Friendly and they really go over the the details of cryotherapy in detail. It put me at ease going in for my first time. Is it cold? Yes. Is it unbearable? No. After my first session, I didn't feel a huge difference. Which according to the staff, is normal. I did sleep much better that night though. I love this, it's super quick and you feel completely refreshed. Brandon is very knowledgeable, genuinely cares about your experience and clearly has a passion for cryotherapy. I would totally recommend this! I have been twice now. I feel so loose afterwards and just lighter and lifted. It does get cold, but it's tolerable. You have to turn 90 degrees four times so if you have ever done a spray tan, it's like that but so much easier to follow and no weird tan lines! I do Cryotherapy regularly in Minneapolis where I'm currently located for work for the last 4 years. I was visiting the Baltimore area (specifically Medford, DE) for work and stayed over the weekend to visit a friend. She was curious about the whole process when I explained it to her and happened to find Thrive on the Mindbody App on my phone. Scheduled an appointment for the both of us since I was feeling like I needed a little pick me up and she was curious about it since I swore by it. I love both the in-therapy and post-therapy benefits I've come to know having done it for so long. The fact that I hit REM sleep so well after consistent appointments in the cities is amazing and I feel so refreshed sleeping like a rock. It's also a great pre and/or post for workouts or sports. I highly recommend it if you are an active person, but who's getting older like myself that doesn't want to give up just yet. The studio was a little hard to find at first as it's actually part of the Salon at the same address. The young lady who was working was very friendly and very knowledgeable about the whole process. My friend was inquisitive about some of the benefits and I was able to share my personal stories that the young lady talked about during the introduction. She definitely put my friend at ease and was very kind. The Salon staff were also very friendly and attentive while we waited where their waiting room offers a variety of drinks. For me, that's where the good ended since I was the first to go in the chamber, which had seen a little too much time in between the previous appointment and should have run a cooling cycle, empty before ours. I've been in that style chamber before when I first started and it requires a bit of a touch to ensure that the chamber is adequately cooled before you get into it because it's got a lot of room to rotate so it requires more volume of vaporized, liquid nitrogen, otherwise you may not get the full benefits that newer chambers, which are smaller and more efficient, allow for someone to receive. Therefore, the temperature will rise faster than some of the newer chambers. The places around me in the Minneapolis area have the newer, smaller, and more efficient chambers. I barely got to -150C when the session ended and you really want to be in that range to at -160 for the full 2-3 minute session. At least my friend got the full experience since my session cooled the chamber properly so she got the full blast and received the timing to ensure maximum benefit. I have a feeling that they're just getting going with the whole thing and it's a learning curve for sure with such an amazing, yet simply, therapy! Thrive is definitely a place to go! read more

My daughter, son and I thoroughly enjoyed our cryotherapy session at Thrive CryoStudio. We are all very athletic and train very hard in both high school and college track and field and bodybuilding. So, the cryotherapy was much needed for all of us. My son had just finished an intense week of track practices and my daughter and I had just trained legs very heavy the day before. Needless to say, we all came in the studio extremely sore and were anxious to see if freezing our butts off in this Cryo thing would really work. In preparation for our sessions, they provided us with a nice robe, gloves, and booties. They give you the option of wearing your undergarments inside the chamber as long as there is no metal attached to the garments anywhere. I'm not going to lie, it was very cold inside the cryo chamber and I shivered for a few seconds, but it was bearable. Once I settled in and calmed my nerves, I was just fine. I honestly cannot stand being cold. So, if I can do it anybody can do it. I'm telling you, we entered the chamber feeling very sore. After about 3-mins, we literally came out with minimal soreness. I felt some initial tingling as my body adjusted back to normal temperature, but once I was back to normal I felt rejuvenated and slept like a baby that night. Some of the soreness eventually came back the following day, but it was nowhere near as intense as it usually would have been. The soreness definitely did not last as many days as it usually lasts. After experiencing it for myself, I am truly a believer in the benefits of natural recovery through cryotherapy. During our visit, Lauren was very patient and did a great job of educating us on how cryotherapy works and its benefits. Thanks Lauren for a fun, enjoyable, and educational experience. She also explained that we may or may not feel a significant noticeable difference immediately following our first session. The real lasting benefits for muscle soreness and recovery are felt even more after several sessions. You'll experience a big difference in the extended soreness and quicker recovery time. We felt the amazing results from that first session and will definitely return for follow-up sessions. For parents of student athletes like me, I would highly recommend that you include cryotherapy as part of their training regime. As hard as student athletes train, they should also focus on the recovery which is just as important for healing and optimal performance. Give it a try! read more

Something I had heard of, was curious about but never really put effort into trying until recently. The lobby is a bit hectic, much like a train station sharing a space with several other beauty treatments. The technician I had was Maggie, she was such a pleasure to work with. Sure to explain the entire process and talk to me throughout the session (trust me, the talking helps to pass the time in the cold) she was very personable and thorough. The experience IS cold, no doubt -140 is chilly but it is nowhere near the painful cold compared to an ice bath. I definitely noticed I felt more energized and did not feel the effects of flying since I had gone right after landing. Brandon was more than understanding & accommodating to the fact my arrival time had been thrown off and was able to see that I still made it in. The reason I'm even giving it a star at all is because it's so close to my house. Other than that I was really disappointed with the service or lack thereof, that I received this past weekend. To summarize, I called ahead on Saturday to make an appointment so I could use the session that I previously paid for. The assistant/tech said that I could either do a walk in or make an appt. But that I should make an appt. just to be safe, she said she would put me down for 2:30, I originally said 2:15, but she said if I arrived early she would take me. I also saw in my email later that I received a confirmation for 2:15. Anyway, I did arrive at 2:15, the receptionist informed the cryo assistant that I was there for my appt., however, the cryo assistant was attending to 2 people who were walk-ins at 2pm. I still thought, ok, since we said 2:30 originally then I would wait until 2:30. 2:30 comes and goes and around 2:40 I said something to the receptionist. She went to get the assistant who comes to tell me that she's sorry, which didn't do anything for me at all, but she was still attending to the 2 walk-ins and couldn't see me at that time, although I had an appt. I asked to speak to the manager, but she gave me the run-around about him not being onsite, blah, blah. Finally, another employee put me in touch with the manager and I explained that I was very unhappy and this treatment was extremely unprofessional. What's the point of making an appt in the first place if you're going not going to give them preferential treatment over walk-ins?? So the manager tried smoothing things over by giving me a free session the next day and I would still have my paid session to use at a later date. The manager was also there to meet with me the next day to facilitate my session as well the same assistant from the day before, which I thought was awkward since I wasn't given good service previously why would it change 24 hours later. So for record, I will not return to Thrive and the "free" session I had can just go against the session that I paid for previously. It's very unfortunate because I live in the Pike and Rose area, 5 minutes from the studio and I was prepared to purchase a package so I could go on a frequent and consistent basis to use in conjunction with my current workout program. A word of advice, either don't take appointments or don't take walk-ins within 30 to 40 minutes of an upcoming appointment. I am in client services as well and I always schedule time to accommodate each client to the point that they feel they are my only client!. read more
