I booked a couples massage and spent the entire hour repeatedly explaining specific pain points over a dozen times each only to be completely ignored. Instead of targeted work, I was slathered in baby oil with zero pressure or attention to my actual issues. I even demonstrated with my own hands where I needed relief, but nothing changed. It was frustrating, ineffective, and a total waste of time and money both of which I value deeply. I would never recommend this place to anyone. This place is pretty pricey. I was asked multiple times if I wanted 50 or 60min. I kept saying 60 but in the end the massage was only 50min. Why keep asking and charge me extra for 10min I didn't receive? So strange. The reason I went was because my quads were very sore from exercise. She barely spent any time on the quads though. Instead, I left with pain in my shoulder in addition to the existing pain in my legs. I would've let it go if the experience wasn't so expensive - $180 (including tip) for 50min. Working from home without a proper desk and desk chair has wrecked havoc on my body. After a night of back pain I booked a massage at Tea Spa. The COVID precautions made me feel safe. Temperatures are checked at the door, hand statuses is provided, staff wear masks, and shoe covers are provided as well. I was taken right away to my room so I didn't have to wait in the lobby. The massage was excellent and certainly relieved some muscle tension and tightness. I received my full 50-55 minutes and had about 5 minutes left to gather myself before paying. I was able to leave tip and pay with the card on file from booking my appointment online. The only issue I had related to the forms they have you fill out prior to your appointment. You are asked to fill them out online and they ask somewhat extensive questions such as you stretching and exercise routine, health issues, what kind of pressure you prefer, and history of professional massages. Another question on the form asks if there are any areas you do not grant your masseuse permission to touch. I selected 1 or 2 areas on my forms. However, those preferences weren't honored during my massage. I was okay with this, given they were just preferences for me, but I imagine someone who may have a history of having others cross their boundaries may have been upset about this. Other than that one concern, my experience was great. I will be back soon granted I will be working from home for the foreseeable future. read more

Make sure to get a massage specifically from Suzan-- I have taken a massage once and came back for the second time and most likely will be back again in the future. Suzan doesn't put all her energy to unnecessary parts of your body while massaging, instead she pays special attention to those unique spots where she knows precisely how much pressure to put-- not too much, not too less. For example, she almost travels on your shoulder with her hand and as soon as she finds that secret spot on your shoulder, she knows how to gradually dig in and it doesn't even hurt. No idea how she does that! Suzan knows what she is doing. Plus, she is a very respectful and friendly therapist. In short, you can't go wrong with Suzan. Tea Spa is the best place to go relax and get immediate pain relief. It's extremely clean and has a very laid back atmosphere. Li is by far, the best massage experience I've ever had. I had a very bad reaction to the COVID jab that has left me with some musculoskeletal and vascular diseases that cause a great deal of pain and inflammation throughout my body. Li is an expert at lymph node drainage. After a few 80 minute sessions, my pain is relieved and I'm once again able to walk for 10 minutes at a time. Li assessed my specific issues and tailored my massage accordingly. Thanks to Li, much of my inflammation has dissipated and that has helped me walk again without some form of assistance. Lovely massage with Randi. 50 minutes for $119 not including tip. It was definitely worth it. She was gentle and listened to my concerns. I had a sensitive area on my back and let her know in the very beginning. She was careful and didn't hurt me. At the end of the massage she offered me water or tea and I was allowed to sit in the waiting area to enjoy my tea before leaving. The atmosphere is great, although the sound does travel into the massage room a bit it wasn't too bad. Great massage via a Groupon deal, professional and courteous check-in, very short wait. The only down side is that this is in a bustling area, so you hear a lot of street noise, which could be controlled with more insulation or soundproof walls or a quieter location (none of which is easy to do). Come here to get the job done at a decent price. I've had their couples massage, aromatherapy, Swedish, deep tissue and hot stone massages. I'm giving 3/5 stars today because my most recent massage felt very rushed and the dealing etiquette was very poor. The room was very relaxing with perfect music and lighting. You could slightly hear the cars outside but not to much so that it's a distraction. I've been going to this Tea Spa location for at least 3 years now (maybe even more). It is close to home for me and with several deals through Groupon, you can get a good decent massage or facial for an affordable price! Massages: I generally go to Karen for a DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE. She is SO SKILLED. She understands pressure points, areas of tenderness and simply has excellent communication skills in terms of firmness and temperature control (there's a heating pad underneath the table). She's very considerate and she's always been my go to. I've tried other masseuse at this location and they're decent, but not quite up to Karen's standards. Facial: There's only one person who does facials at this location (but I forgot her name!!) She does a fairly decent job with proper exfoliation, hot steam, extraction of white/black heads and moisturizing afterwards. It is a bit on the pricier end, but not unreasonable at all. I really love how they provide tea or water before and after their services! They definitely have great customer service skills. The only downfall I would say at this location is parking. The parking lot in front is quite small and gets filled quickly. You have to be aware of your parking spots as well because some are handicapped but the signs are faded or small and not always noticeable at first glance! read more

I went here for a 60-min signature massage with lavender oil. I found this spa on Groupon and it's a good thing because I would have never noticed the location otherwise. It's located on the 2nd floor of a small strip of businesses. Leave a little extra time to park and find the door. Once inside it was very clean and they had cute decor that has nothing to do with my massage but it makes the business seem a little more like a spa and less like a strip mall massage joint. The massage was a great head to toe situation with heavy pressure, and a heat pack for my achy back. The room was clean and quiet with soothing spa music. The table was nice and toasty, which made me wonder why I even tolerate massages on tables that aren't heated. The only downside to my experience was booking because I left two phone messages that weren't returned. So I've never had an issue with Tea Spa until today. And this in no means is meant to rate my masseuse Iris who did a great job. This review is more so for the business and customer service of the receptionist. After feeling good from my massage I'm about to leave when one receptionist during check out informs me of their spa membership to which I stated I would take a look. The other receptionist then decides to chime in and state that I can no longer continue to use vouchers since I've been there more than once. So I explained to her that I m aware of that policy in reference to Groupon vouchers which is how I found them in the first place. However over the last few years they have emailed me with specials every once in awhile which is when the price comes down and I'll purchase and book a massage. So I tell her that this isn't a Groupon voucher but one of their specials that they emailed me. She informs me that I shouldn't be getting those specials and since I've been there a few times on the special and not on the membership that they will cancel my account altogether. I simply stated okay. Now I'm not sure how they run their business but that was extremely rude and unprofessional. As far as I'm concerned they can take my name off of their list. read more

I went to Tea Spa recently because I've been working from home and my back was in a lot of pain. I was initially nervous to go since this was before I had my Covid vaccine but the experience couldn't have been better! There were a lot of measures in place that made me feel safe- 1) I called when I arrived and was told to come in so I was the only person in the lobby 2) you can wrap your shoes in disposable booties or leave them at the door where there is a big sanitizing station 4) Everyone was wearing masks and I filled out my massage intake form electronically before I arrived so there wasn't need to use any pens/papers 5) I wore my mask during my massage and so did my massage therapist and it was very comfortable, I still felt relaxed. It was overall a great experience and I can't wait to go back. This is the best place in the DMV for a massage. read more

When you have a special deal as an introduction to a new spa/ salon, it is a mixed bag. Most of the time, you should expect a taste of what you could experience as a regular customer. Isn't that the point of the special offers - to draw in and persuade new customers to become regular clients? Well, I can say that this spa was not impressive at all in the sense of trying to persuade/woo me to becoming a regular customer. If it were just me and I didn't see how other customers/ clients were addressed and helped, maybe I would go back, but... it seemed all around that clients/ customers were confused and asking for their special offers or clarification. There were 3 other clients/customers while I was there, and 2 of them were having issues that seemed to be very challenging to be resolved. Plus, when I walked into the spa, the staff did not greet me or help me for several minutes because of the dilemma with one of the other clients. It made me feel unwelcome. During my time there, I was surprised to see that there were at least 4 total staff folks working. I suppose they each had a specific job/ duty. As for the special deal I had purchased, it was not honored in its entirety, and there wasn't even any apology or question about that dilemma. Very strange. The actual experience, or part of it, for what I received, was 50 minutes long. Of those 50 minutes, 15 minutes were for me to relax/ "mask" at the end. Really? I realize the value of that part of the process, but, it just confirmed for me that the experience was only mediocre at best. For a cleansing facial experience, I kind of expect a little bit more. Facial massages are also nice, but, if that's half of the rest of the time, umm.... ok, I guess. Finally, the weather is heating up, but it's the DC metropolitan area. Hot weather is not anything new, surprising or unexpected. So, if I am supposed to be relaxing at a spa, when I feel uncomfortably warm, that's not a good sign - especially since I become cold very easily. For me to be uncomfortably warm, I feel bad for everyone else! The HVAC system either needs work, or, they need to make the summer environment a bit friendlier to patrons. The hours and location are somewhat convenient, as the hours are longer into the evening, and the location allows for finding parking within a block (street or across from the spa). Overall, I am hesitant to return, as I might melt if the weather is any warmer. Besides, I can massage my own face and put on a mask- much cheaper at home. read more

I bought a Groupon for a couples massage which I had last week with my boyfriend. After I made my appointment, I got a call from them asking me to move my appt- I said that I couldn't and had already made plans around other people and was a surprise for my bf. They said fine, that they would accommodate. Then I got a call 2 hours prior to our massage and was told we couldn't have the hot stone massage because they had no water... I thought this was weird but later understood as it was the whole block. We had to switch to the Swedish massage which was less expensive (even though I had already paid for the hot stone). We got there for our 2pm appt and waited for over FORTY FIVE minutes. ridiculous. Then I was told "well we called and asked you to move your appt!"... um, what? I was also told it was fine and could be accommodated! Don't tell me it's okay and then make me wait nearly an hour. If I hadn't already paid for it via Groupon, we would've been out of there. I was not a happy camper, however wanted to get my money's worth since it wasn't worth losing $100 bucks. They told us that there weren't enough rooms available for us (yet there were at least 7 masseurs just hanging out in the front area.... weird, why so many if there wasn't enough rooms for them all to work?!). I think my bf just wanted his massage so I shut up :-) The massage itself was fine. It wasn't my favorite but it was definitely nice. I thought it was weird that the guy kept leaving to go get hot towels, I felt like it was cutting into my massage time! I also had asked him to please focus on my lower back, and he told me he wanted to give me the "full body massage" and didn't work on my problem areas as much as I had hoped. The location, I agree, is a little sketchy, but it was fine once inside. From the wait we had, however, and the confusion (and irritation) with logistics, I probably won't be back. read more

I really enjoyed my massage at Tea Spa! Like many other Yelpers, I saw a deal on Groupon for a massage at the Tea Spa. My upper back was pretty sore, so I quickly called them and was able to book an appointment two days later. They honor their Groupon prices even if you don't buy a Groupon (as long as you ask), so I just did that! The building the Tea Spa is in is admittedly ugly, but as soon as you open the door, the nice smells of the Tea Spa waft down. The inside of the spa is nice, although a tad dark and the lobby feels a little crowded. I was helped quickly, and filled out their forms - one part asked how heavy you like the masseuse to be - light, firm, or deep touch. I really appreciated this because I've had so many massages that are far too light and don't do much for me. Mona, my masseuse (or "therapist" in Tea Spa terminology) was great. I think this is the first time that a masseuse has actually focused on the areas of my body I asked them to focus on - in this case, my upper back and shoulders. She definitely had a firm touch, which was also very appreciated! It sometimes was a bit much but I really needed it to help feel better. She was lighter on other areas, like my legs and arms - in short, really did exactly what I was hoping for. Honestly do not think I have ever had a masseuse do this before. Thank you Mona! It's now a day later, and my back/shoulders are still feeling better, which is awesome. Even though Tea Spa is at the intersection of two busy streets, it's pretty well insulated with regards to sound. I heard a car alarm vaguely for a few seconds, and maybe one other car once. We did not get what we paid for. The descriptions on the website do not match what they intend to provide. My wife booked the 'paradise package' which indicates a 'getaway for two'--with three services: a massage, a reflexology foot massage/scrub, and a 'sauna for two'. we both expected to get these three services for each of us. ONLY the sauna was for two. My wife felt bad so she gave me the massage and reflexology, she took the sauna. Well... I got the combination massage which was OK (didn't locate/work on any knots). I did NOT get the reflexology work (Linda said she spent more time on my massage instead--who told her to do that?? No communication) my wife took the sauna for one, and since they told me to dress after my massage I didn't get the sauna either. So we ended up paying way too much just for one person massage and one person sauna time (who wants a sauna with no massage?) Make sure you confirm all your services, ask a lot of questions, and tell them what you expect/want. They tried to appease us by taking $10 off (8%?) And then immediately ask for a tip.... Then gave us a 'St. Patrick's day special' promo card. We won't be using it.... Buyer Beware. read more

My very sweet friend got me a gift certificate to tea spa for my birthday. She must have looked on Yelp to find a good spa place near my house because she lives on the west coast! Tea spa definitely did not disappoint. I requested a 90 minute deep tissue massage by a female therapist, but they didn't have any more for the date I requested, so they asked if I wanted a male therapist or to reschedule. I said a male therapist was fine. The place was easy for me to find, and parking was not a problem the time/date I went, which was on a Sunday afternoon. My masseuse was Ben, and he was amazing, focusing on the points where I had knots, which was my shoulders/upper back from too much work stress. I felt like he paid a good amount of attention to every part of my body, and I was very relaxed and happy after my appointment. Their membership looks like a good deal at $50 a year, with pretty big discounts on services. If you get a lot of massages, you should look into this. read more

I really really wanted to give this place 4 or 5 stars because it's so reasonably priced ($40/1 hr through Groupon but they have $50/1 hr Swedish Massage & $75/hr hot stone massage promo special) and 5 min from where I'll be living. However, a few things I noticed that keeps me from giving more stars. * During my massage, the therapist (her name was Alba) kept talking to me about the promos they were having & other types of massages. I felt like she was giving me a sales pitch as I was being massaged. It annoyed me a bit because I just really wanted to relax & just get my massage. * I didn't feel like I was getting enough of a massage. She would be rubbing part of me then pause to talk then start up again. It just made it hard to feel totally relaxed * Afterward, I didn't feel as though I'd really gotten much of a rub-down. I'm not sure exactly why because I've gotten massages before & walked out of there feeling relaxed & like a limp noodle. I walked out of Tea Spa feeling about the same as I walked in. On the flip side - it was affordable. I was able to make an appointment within a week & it's open on weekends and weekday nights. My massage therapist did check in with me to make sure the pressure was good. The foot scrub at the end I got was great!! And come on, who doesn't like a massage? Booked a groupon for a couples massage with me and my bf. We both filled out paperwork online about our preferences, place we wanted concentrated on, pressure, etc. which gave me high hopes for the personalization for our massages. Right off the bat we didn't get off to a great start because a male masseuse walked into my side of the room and a female on my bf's. Nobody had asked us if we preferred female, or if I was okay with a male - I was not, so we switched. Even though we switched, there was no discussion in the beginning for either of us about what we wanted (pressure or areas to focus on), so they obviously had not even looked at all the stuff we spent time writing out anyway. In the end, we both received very generalized massages that we didn't enjoy. And they were also both different... which means that each person kind of just massages in whatever way they feel like. We both have very tight areas in our bodies with knots (from working out and other activities), but neither of us felt relieved because none of them had been worked on. One nice thing was the ginger tea that was offered at the end (only to me, not my bf...?? Again, each person just does what they want?), which we both liked. I tried the CBD massage , I could only tell the difference in the consistency of the oil but it felt the same from a regular massage.
