I never thought I'd be bed-ridden in an acute care facility at the age of 30. That all changed after I was hit head on by a wrong way driver on route 39. I just wanted to take the time to recognize the staff at Thrive of lisle, they have been taking great care of me. I feel like I'm being treated as if I'm family. Shoutouts to CNA's Allan & Harrison; nurses Shirley and Gina. They are the best! Kelly from activities, Jerome and Sue are always roving the halls and engaging with residents. The positivity and enthusiasm of staff is truly contagious and has made this long recovery journey easier for me. Therapists Susan, Ed, Keyenna and Tiffany have been helping me work towards my goal to be able to walk again and use my left arm. I love Thrive, and the staff here. Thanks everyone! -Tim read more

All window dressing, no care. A loved one spent weeks here and was subjected to care ranging from blantant negligence to reasonable PT. Their time was wasted here on Medicare's dime. Do not believe the shill reviews here. This place is a money machine and should be reported for Medicare fraud as they absolutely did not provide the minimum PT, OT and ST hours mandated by Medicare for the reimbursement they received. Numerous charges for faceless docs, useless labs, no MyChart portal available for family and PCPs to review, lip service from the leadership and staff, completely inadequate medication management. When we first walked in, we thought, ok this will be nice. Wrong. The communication is awful. PT was sometimes ok and sometimes what are you doing? We were told to come with car to practice getting in and out and last minute they didn't have us on the schedule. Then to be released and we took off work early to find out that she wasn't going home, and nobody called. We found out from the assisted living place she lives at. We would call so she would have help to go to bathroom (she wasn't allowed to get out of bed without nurse) and one time it took 45 minutes. Nurse said she was on lunch...Nobody else can come and help?! The facility said 3 weeks is the longest anyone has stayed and now we are at 4 weeks after we were told she was going home. I think they found out her insurance was good. the food is horrible. The one lady working with food is not nice at all. I work healthcare and work in a place that works with rehab and I have made a point of telling people not to go there. I don't know how they have good reviews read more

Social worker did not assist at all for smooth transition to home.There was zero accountability and still waiting for after care services. called facility after discharge to follow up, and have not received a call, text or email. My experience was positive overall with the exception of dietary. Almost daily the food was cold, or I didn't get what I ordered, or got what I didn't order. What stands out is the pushback borderline hostility I got from (i believe her name is Cheryl) standing right next to a big customer service sign on the door. But that's really my only complaint. Upper management, including Sue and Carrie, was professional and responsive. Kellie is an amazing bundle of joy and beyond funny. Therapists and most nursing staff were great. The following are noted as superb: Sue; Kelly, Drew, Mark, Liu,Teresa, Rogene, Tyria, Alfonso, Omayra, Atlantis, Mikala, Krysta, Traci, Vaness, Jennifer, Jamie, & Dulce are all exceptional at their jobs. Ii apologize if ive left some people out. I've carried this list around, losing it several times. My mother had three recent stays at Thrive of Lisle for physical rehab after being hospitalized with a severe illness. To begin with, I will say that the facility itself is very nice and modern. Everything felt pretty clean and welcoming, which is great for creating an environment for healing. My only criticism is that with all of the hard surfaces, the building is pretty loud - to the point that when something down the hall happens, it sounds like it is happening in your room. The admissions staff, the head nurse (she was great for my mom), and most of the other nurses and CNAs were very good. I loved how people throughout the building would engage with mom and make her feel welcome. Even the activities director knew her name despite mom not being an "activities" person. As others had pointed out, however, the food was almost always cold, which was exceptionally bad for my mom who was already experiencing appetite issues. My biggest gripe, however, was the quality of the actual therapy that mom was there to receive. The therapist who was over my mom (Rizza) was exceptionally horrible. Because mom was struggling with repeated infections and depression, getting her to therapy was not always easy. After a week and half of refusing therapy, the facility was going to discharge her. My brother and I got very active and told mom that she needed to follow through in order to get better. She agreed to try, and both my brother and I offered to go to her therapy sessions with her. My brother was the first to attend a therapy session. Both the occupational (don't know her name) and physical (Rizza) therapists showed up to mom's room. Mom was not able to dress herself at that point, and the CNA was running late. The therapists scolded mom for not being ready and told her that them getting her ready would count against her therapy time for the day. Once they got her into her wheelchair, they brought her into the gym and just told her to "stand up." Mom had not been on her feet for close to 3 weeks due to issues at a previous therapy facility. Plus she was still experiencing PTSD from a previous fall at the last facility. Both physical and occupational rolled their eyes when she didn't stand up and then told her to go roll herself into the lunch area. That was PT and OT for that day. My brother called and complained. I showed up to mom's next therapy session, and the CNA did not have her ready at the time when she was supposed to leave. When I called her in, she told me, "I have to take out the garbage first in other rooms." I was mad because I knew that therapy would use mom not being ready as an excuse to not give her therapy again, so I pushed and she got mom in her wheelchair. When Rizza showed up, she immediately had an accusatory tone, implying that mom wasn't cooperating, when she absolutely was. We went into the therapy room, and Rizza simply buckled mom into a bike-like thing and told her to pedal for 15 minutes. Rizza gave no instruction and just walked away. Mom continued to pedal constantly, without any complaints, however Rizza stopped in when mom was about 7 minutes in and said, "You have to do this for 15 minutes!" even though mom was (no encouragement - just discouragement.) She walked away again. Occupational was better during this visit. The young guy did help mom and explain what she needed to do. He added resistance to challenge her (Rizza did not.) After mom finished a half hour on the bike (mostly by herself without a therapist around), the two therapists wanted to get her to stand up again. They had her in a wheelchair where her feet did not even touch the ground and expected her to stand up. They were both small people and tried to pull her up by her sweatpants. Mom tried, but it was unsuccessful. Rizza rolled her eyes and said therapy is over. While everything else at the facility was a great experience, the one thing that mom came there for was a complete disappointment and borderline Medicare fraud (if not actual fraud.) Rizza was obviously unqualified for the position they gave her, as she continued to fail to treat mom for things she needed help with. Observing Rizza's techniques (if you want to call them that), it made me seriously question whether mom was turning down therapy sessions because she was being stubborn or because the therapist was simply embarrassing her and setting her up to fail. How a place could keep an individual like Rizza on payroll AND allow her to act in any official position (referring to end mom's therapy) is beyond me. This place has great potential, but until they can figure out how to deliver the one thing that they are supposed to be offering, everything else is just lipstick on a pig. read more

My father was at Thrive for approximately 24 hours and I can say if we ever had to pick a short term rehab again this wouldn't even make the list as an option. Last week he was received a triple bypass. Upon his arrival at Thrive he was complaining of shortness of breath. The following day he said it had gotten worse and felt even tighter. After speaking with the nurses and the on call doctor via a zoom they said that he was perfectly fine and his vitals were all normal. They ordered x-rays and said they saw no signs of pneumonia or any concerns with the lungs. My father still requested to be transported to the hospital. I then called and spoke with his nurse Cindy who was more concerned with telling me if he leaves they only hold the bed for 24 hours and nothing about his condition other than the doctor evaluated him via a zoom call and said he was fine. I then informed them to call an ambulance. He was then transported to the ER where he was admitted. At the ER they did more x-rays and say a build up of fluid around his lungs. The hospital ended up draining 2.5 liters of fluid from his chest which was compressing his chest and heart and had he not advocated for himself and went against the advice of Thrive his heart would have stopped. But it doesn't stop there. The following day I went to pick up his clothes from Thrive. They had taken all of his belongings and shoved them into garbage bags and put them in a storage room. I then asked where his walker was. The receptionist said there was no walker. I asked her if we could at least check because my father and brother both told me it was there. The receptionist then went and got the Director of Reservations for me to speak with, Artemisa (Arte) Almaguer. I again asked about the walker. At this point "Arte" proceeded to inform me of Thrive's policies regarding walkers and how they aren't allowed. And I told her that's fine but I was told it was here can we just check. Once again she proceeded to tell me how it's not there and it wouldn't be because it goes against policy. After asking two more times she finally said she would check. Sure enough two minutes later she comes back with the walker. As soon as she gets back to me before I could even say thank you she goes into a a speech about how he can't bring this back if he returns and that they aren't allowed due to liability reasons. Like okay but clearly someone let him walk in with it. He can't walk without it. Instead of telling my not to bring it maybe your staff should have said something when he arrived. I then asked her if he had any medications that came with him that needed to be taken. She said she wouldn't know only his nurse would. So can the nurse check. Her response was why would the nurse check. Because it's his meds and I need to take them to him...oh well at thrive we don't allow outside medications. Any meds ordered by the hospital or his doctor or ordered in house and our pharmacy. Great so short answer is no. So I informed her sorry he wasn't even here 24 hours. Sorry we didn't have a chance to learn all of the ones and outs and policies regarding Thrive. The whole time speaking with "Arte" she gave the impression that she was so put out and inconvenienced for me asking questions. She was very short and rude and made me feel as if this whole situation was something annoying to her and Thrive. Like I was wrong for not knowing or asking questions. You would think being in a form of hospitality and care and human relations you would try and be warmer and friendlier. And being in a position to care for others who are dealing with what they are to be a patient there, a little more empathetic. Thrive should really look into this situation that their advice and care of a patient nearly cost my father his life and then to be treated like we were in the wrong for having questions or wanting to care for my father is completely unacceptable. read more

My mother was a resident for 3 weeks. There was only one very small grievance, but that PALES in comparison to the high-quality above and beyond care she received by the staff. PT/OT/ST made her stronger and reached each goal that was set for her. The aides went above and beyond for her. I have been in this industry on a professional and personal level for an upward of 10 years, and I have never experienced my mom become emotional because she was leaving. She met some very nice sweet people, which says a lot because she is very quiet by nature. A big shout out to her aide, Alan, and I wish I could remember the names of the others.. just so good. Cheryl in good service went above and beyond making sure my mom's food was cut up and set up so that she could eat with dignity. I just can't say enough. Somehow activities got her to participate, which is nothing short of a miracle. She enjoyed it too. Way to go Thrive!! read more

Would rate zero if could-my mom had a terrible experience here. Was left in her dirty diaper for hours. Nurses rarely checked on her and PT would often not show up. She ended up with a terrible bruise on her arm and elbow with no explaination. One stand out was a CNA-Allen, he was great, but not enough for us to let her stay. I was there for two weeks. Some of the CNA's (most of them) are way overworked). My call light was sometimes not answered for well over 1/2 hour. If I fell in the bathroom, I would have laid there for a long time. This place looks all nice on the outside, but it's just like all of these facilities, they just need more help. They brought in another resident in the room with me and all night she screamed and i didn't get one minute of sleep. The staff just ignored it all. One of the nurses is just rude and did no want to even give me my medication I take at night - and it is a prescription I have taken for years. My first shower seemed like a shock to my CNA - it was way past the time, and they had no towels - she brought blankets and one face cloth for me off an dry my hair. My second shower - same thing, no towels. However I had my CNA from the day before give me some to put in my wardrobe so I could shower, the rest of the residents were out of luck. This is not how I thought our healthcare system was run, but it is. I hear the same stories from other people at other facilities. I was a patient at Thrive of Lisle from September 28, 2024, through October 11, 2024. These notes document my experience at the place. Environment: My room was small with two small windows at floor level. Furniture was a hospital bed, small night stand and a recliner chair that did not work. No chairs, desk, nothing else. I asked for a better recliner but was told they're all the same. There was a small built-in wardrobe. Coat hangers couldn't be removed so you can't steal them. There was one 100-watt light on a pull string. The furniture was far from hospital grade, in a word "cheap." It had already started to fall apart. Food: Poor quality, small portions and limited selection. Meals arrived up to an hour and a half late. I asked for green vegetables and never got any. Juices were 4-ounce cups, half concentrate and half chemicals. There was a kitchen worker who tried hard and was very helpful. The Drive By Doctors: Ask your nurse to see a doctor/PA and one will stop by within a day. Not quite. They might stop by your room, but if you're not in it, they check the box and move on. Your fault you missed doc. When I checked in I was supposed to be checked for dehydration; I never was. The day I checked out, a doctor stopped by to tell me she prescribed an antibiotic a week earlier. I was told to hold the Atorvastatin when I was discharged. Not hard to do since it wasn't on my medication list. Nursing Care Staff: A tech said (screamed at) me "I don't care what your doctor said, get your shoes and socks on. I have rounds to make and I can't help you." I asked my nurse one afternoon when my room would be made up. She said I should call House Keeping. On and on. Some techs better and some techs worse. Responses to call button requests ranged from OK to never. Help got better (not great) after complaints, but heavy complaining should not be required. Sanitation: The first time Ed helped me with a shower the bathroom floor flooded because the shower drain was clogged. Ed cleared a large ball of human hair which was blocking the drain. Twice wash clothes and a couple of times towels came back from the laundry with material of unknown origin (adhesives?) stuck to them. Some Exceptions: Cameron from PT did a great job for me. Above and beyond. Ed from OT was concerned and did a great job for me. Jerome very good. Likewise, Sue. Both effective and proactive. Overall Impression of the Place: The place was constructed and is operated as cheaply as possible. Cut every corner possible to increase ROI. For me, one word describes Thrive: Toxic. read more

Overall poor communication and coordination of care effort. Thrive of Lisle discharged my father from their care with an expensive prescription to treat pneumonia, but they did not complete/submit the preauthorization paperwork for Medicare to cover the cost of the medication. They were unresponsive and uncooperative in resolving the issue. This soured my view of the facility after a series of smaller issues while my father was under their care. Twice, when I had to transport him to outside doctors' visits, they dropped the ball on getting him an early meal as requested. The social worker in case management was often unresponsive to questions by phone and email. A referral to continued outpatient rehab never materialized as promised. read more

Many issues with your place, but what needs to be corrected immediately is to return to me my medication that was owed at discharge. What you did is illegal. Why did you have to be so greedy? Knowing I wouldn't be able to get them filled. Leaving me in serious screaming pain. I need a response immediately. . My mother was at Thrive for CHF post hospitalization. The care was awful. 40 minutes to answer call lights. Not knowing if she had to go to bathroom or had a heart attack. Nurse might come in to see call light but would say not her job to take to bathroom. Wrong meds given. Nebulizer not given. Food was poor and always cold. Did meet with administration who seemed to care, but the actual care did not improve. Director of nursing was not helpful, did not come when we were told she would. Left facility and took her to CDH where she was readmitted. Do not send your loved one there read more

Do not place your loved one here for rehabilitation! PROS: Clean and bright Reasonably well kept (it is brand new) Reasonably good physical and occupational therapists, although very poorly trained for this facility CONS: Ineffective administration Incompetent and poorly trained medical staff - apparently the facility can't hire and train quickly enough as it seems one staff member is added and two others leave out of frustration Poorly trained, although reasonably competent therapy staff (not trained for the facility - everyone does what they want - no therapy plan) Extremely poor communication from both administration and staff both with the patient/family/designated representative and among other staff members Staff seems incapable of answering even the most basic questions Food, although there are random tasty dishes, is disgusting and many times completely inedible (I was able to cut three small bites off of a piece of beef covered with fat and gristle) Some of the staff overstep their bounds and say things to the patients that should not be revealed Patient progress is not what it should be Staff and administration blames absolutely everything on COVID when, in fact, they are just lazy (and probably very afraid of a surprise inspection). Thrive cannot exist with the current administration and until changes are made, do not go there! read more

This place is a nightmare and the administration is racist! I was in the hospital for over a month for a extensive surgery. When thrive of lisle was thirsty for residents and building was practically empty for three years! Their admission person was calling me nearly every day wanting me to come there for rehab and therapy so I finally agreed to go! The Nursiing staff was ok CNA staff very rude and not very helpful! I had a medical emergency after only being at thrive of lisle for only 10 days. Which I ended back in the hospital for over a month! I was told before leaving the facility That whenever I'm released from the hospital I will have a bed waiting! Which wasn't true. When i was ready to be discharged from the hospital thrive of lisle stated they didn't have any beds available! And told the social worker at hospital they decided not to accept me back!! I feel like this is very bad business and they have their quota for excepting African-Americans. The administrator was very rude and nasty when I talk to her and when the social worker from the hospital called her also, the food at this facility is horrible. When the food arrives to you it's already cold and disgusting looking sometimes you do not even recognize what exactly they're serving you, because the food looks so unappetizing. After reading all the horrible reviews I'm thankful I wasn't accepted back. read more

There were a few staff who were awesome. Mark and Allen communicated great and were very understanding and helpful. Kelly was really sweet as well. The other nurse was HORRIBLE!!! She told me she was not my mother's babysitter and that they are not a long term facility and that i was not to treat it as so. She also told my sister that what i said wasn't true meanwhile i was in the room and heard every word she said!!! I was not lying it was that she had no idea what my communication with the Administrator was. Also my mom is 81 with dementia and when she said she didn't want her pills the nurse said ok give them back to me! She is AWFUL! Even after my 2 complaints of this nurse they continued to have her take care of my mom. I would not go to that one unless you are 30 years old, completely aware of everything going on around you and able to communicate it! Also she was sent home with wrong medication and Home health care never called me! read more

This place is horrible. They brought my mother there on a Saturday and placed her in the last room at the end of the hall by the employee entrance. My mother had a massive stroke which left her comprehension and speech skills very poor. I was with her on Saturday for most of the day. After checking her in and getting vitals she had lunch and wanted to take a nap. I left for the day and came in the following afternoon to find her sitting in her own waste and was soaked through her clothes and was gathering in the wheelchair they left her in. Even her socks & shoes were wet. I couldn't find a single nurse or any staff for almost an hour. I cleaned her up and got her changed and disinfected everything before I finally found a nurse. She explained to me that no one told her that she had a stroke and that only the supervisors read the charts and they aren't there on the weekends. So she had no way of knowing. Apparently at 1:30 am that night, someone found her outside in the parking lot by the Ambulance Bay on the ground where she had fallen. Something, I don't know what, but something upset her so much that she wanted to leave. They moved her room by the nurse's station but the staff never got better and was even told by administration that it is very common for patients to have a call light on for an hour before a nurse comes in. Aside from a few really good nurse's who actually care most of the staff would tell me repeatedly, "That's not my job" or "She's not my patient" Physical Therapy: they were convinced that my mom couldn't get out of a chair or walk without help and that I shouldn't encourage her. I did anyway and yelled at staff everytime I was there. They called me on a Friday afternoon and said they were discharging her on Monday morning I explained they didn't leave me much time to explain to my boss or find help for her at home. The caseworker said to me, "that's not my problem, figure it out." None (ok, 2 were, maybe 3) of the staff were ethical, positive, attentive, helpful, competent, or compassionate. The facility is beautiful, the staff is a disaster! read more

A family member was a patient there for a very short time (less than 12 hours). He is a diabetic yet, on arrival, was not given any food or drink. At some point in the late evening or early AM, he fell and injured his head. Facility did not call us - his legal guardians - for more than an hour after ambulance had been called. They were less than honest about the situation or time-frame of accident. Terrible level of care for the needy. read more

My mom is currently at Thrive for care after surgery for a broken hip. We were very hopeful in the beginning and were met with a friendly staff. Sadly, the communication is horrendous. They did not have the orders correct from the hospital, did not know she was on morphine and for the first several days, never even received more than Tylenol. When my mom complained of bladder issues, I asked the nurse if they could check for a UTI. It took 4 days and us siblings begging for it to be done. Since they don't have in-house lab, it had to be sent out....took another few days. By this time it came back positive and she was in an enormous amount of pain. We met with the head nursing staff and asked if she could have her pain pill an hour before her therapy. We were assured this would happen.....they were always late with it or coming in right before therapy. We are now currently taking turns staying here to make sure she gets the care she needs. We understand there is a shortage, but as I sit here writing this review, I pressed the call light for my mom to have her pain pill at 11:30, and a nurse finally came in at 12:35 to tell me she was bringing in her pain pill that was suppose to be given to her at noon. There are some great people here and honestly it seems like all rehab places have so many issues. But I get tired of the excuses of "I don't have an answer because I just got here" or " It's my first day working with your mom" . Just wish the system was not so broken. Our elderly population does not deserve such lackadaisical care. read more

So, let me me up front. I was here a couple of years ago & the experience was excellent & beyond belief. My recent experience was very mixed. My admission was very rocky & they seemed unaware that I was arriving. I had a back injury and the bed that they put me in was like a torture device. After complaining to the General Manager, she was on top of it and did get me a bed that was air controlled and perfect for my back situation. Many of the staff are very concerned and try to do their best. However, I feel they are understaffed and have some staff that are just plain rude. I had one experience with a patient care technician, Juliet, I believe it was just Flippin and actually went out of her way to be rude if she could . While the food is well, prepared and tasty, it arrives cold because they do not have appropriate hot carts to keep the food warm. The patient techs that deliver The food are often doing other things which causes food getting cold. If you ask, they will warm the food for you, which makes it much more edible. The therapy staff is excellent and I would recommend them with no questions asked. Rita and Denise are rock stars and go well out of their way to do everything they can. I found out that since my first admission a couple of years ago that they have gone through a corporate change and are rebuilding their team. I think that overtime they will get things together again however, at this point things are sadly lacking. Jerome, who handles discharge went far out of his way to make things smooth for my discharge however, it just seems like sometimes the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. What I consider going there again? Absolutely as I believe even with the things that are lacking they are still far better than the other options that are out there and available. read more

I was currently discharged from Thrive, after four weeks of Rehab. It was the greatest experience I have had in a Rehab Facility! Honestly, I was sad the day I left because I felt like I was leaving family! #1 The Facility is immaculate. I never was in a Facility that actually cared about changing my bedding. #2 Never once did I receive a bad attitude from any staff member. #3 I want Thanks, again, to my entire team that worked with me! You know who you are! Excellent therapy, Medical Care, Respiratory Care, CNA's and my daily Housekeeper! Yes, the food was a challenge, but edible! They have hired a remarkable new Administrator and she is working very hard on improving the food. I seldom waited for anything I needed. I was put, last year in a Facility that was a nightmare and should be shut down. Private rooms and Baths. I think Thrive tries to address it all as a Rehab Facility!!!! read more

I'm sorry I have to leave a bad review, but I am fed up. My Mother was staying at this facility for a pulled groin muscle, back in December through the beginning of January. She suddenly passed away on January 7th, during her stay with you. My father received a phone call that evening informing him that she had collapsed but still had a pulse and was on her way to Edwards Hospital, and that someone at your facility would call him back and give him the details. (She didn't survive) We never received a call! In fact, we called several times and were told someone would return our call, which also never happened, and that was IF someone even answered the phone! My family and I are left in the dark, as I have tried numerous times to retrieve my wife's medical records. We sent the medical release form and everything else that was required. This is outrageous, to say the least! Can you try to imagine how my family and I feel, with no real answers to this day!? Please, Please get back to me. I have left messages saying we could pick the records up. I can't believe I had to resort to leaving this in a review, but I was given no choice. Your facility is completely unprofessional and clearly has no compassion for its patients. read more
