Close your eyes and think back to 5th grade when you went to your classmate's birthday party. Where your classmates urged you to ask out another classmate but you were too chicken. Are you there? Now when you open your eyes, you'll magically be transported to Thunderbird Roller Rink. Seriously, this place looks almost exactly like what I remember to be a 28 year old memory. In all honestly, I thought I was not going to have as much fun as I did. I thought roller skating wouldn't be as fun as rollerblading and was disappointed that I hadn't brought my Rollerblades, but it was "cheap skate Tuesday" and it was great. We skated for about two hours and I only fell twice, both while attempting to do tricks that I hadn't attempted in decades. For the most part, everything was fine. Some of the younger kids who don't know what they're doing will zoom out or bite it right in front of you. Just be prepared. They've done their best to make an old rink look less old with a coat of paint here and there. All in all, a good time. Do it even if it's for nostalgia's sake. read more

weird they require a mask to get inside the doors... to the lady behind the glass, but not inside .... so what was the point?? but want to sell you one (of course--- for what though?) ..They kept making several announcements that nobody could make out about bc they were too close to the microphone while pausing the flow of skating. To yell at everyone for doing almost everything but breathing. All but 1 of the employees was rude, and seemed to be having a horrible day. The overall atmosphere was not a fun experience it was tense like walking on eggshells bc you never knew who was going to do something wrong again. I suggest going elsewhere bc the people running this place are not happy and you can tell by their staff. Also if you over 10 and a birthday kid you have to put your hand behind your back in the money machine... seriously.... heaven forbid the kid actually grab all 10 of the dollars that were put in there in the 10 seconds they are in their in the first place. I so wanted to rate them 5 stars but they are repeatedly so disappointing. They are nice people but they're food area had no burgers or pizza even though it's on their menu!!!!! The slush machines were not frozen. When I asked the girl if they would be ready before 8pm when they close she said MAYBE!!! What????? We brought 22 people tonight and planned to provide dinner for the kids. All they had was popcorn, microwaved unsalted fries( yuck) , microwaves mini pizzas and soda. They never cleaned popcorn off the floor. Kids skated through it all night in the snack area. This is disgraceful and not safe!!! The staff and business in general seem to be struggling perhaps.... When I ordered food the girl kept telling me what I ordered was not available so it was slim pickings. My thought is why not just revise your menu board so you don't set people's expectations up thinking they can order food when they won't be able too. It creates unneeded stress and unhappy customers. Most everything is microwaved. They never put water out for skaters and typically they do that. They never called our names when our food was ready. They have a microphone but they don't use it to let people know their food is ready. Many parents left with their kids early because they were hungry. This place really needs to rethink their snack area and customer service. But we can't bring friends here anymore. It was embarrassing. They charge $3 to rent the pvc pipe trainers and $4 to quad skate. That's so much for renting the pvc pipes things. It's dirty and they didn't announce closing the snack bar until ten minutes after they had already closed it. What a shame....... read more

It's seriously like stepping back in time when you go into this roller rink!!! Had my daughters 9th birthday here and it was great!! Kids got to skate for an hour, then got 30 min in the party room for pizza and cake, and then could head back out and skate. Party host set up the party for us & had everything ready for the pizza and cake! Four pizzas included with the party were PLENTY for the 20 kids and some parents. It's a little dirty inside, but it's an ancient place so I guess that probably comes with it. Overall, great party and experience!! read more

I like the way the rink is still as smooth as it was in the 80's but I don't like that fact that the carpet was lumpy in many areas. I don't like the fact that every time I had to open my locker, I had to deposit another 75 cents in it each time to get it to lock again. The bathroom mirror was dirty but the toilets were constantly cleaned thank God. The hand dryer barely works so I hated having to dry my hands on my shirt. not a bad roller rink considering there's only 2 near frisco. it's a bit outdated and it's obvious they haven't replaced anything in the rink for years. still a fun time and the rink is quite big so there's lots of room for everyone to move around in without feeling too cramped! just personally not a fan of the upkeep and decor, other than that not bad. read more

The hours of operation are inconsistent across yelp, google, and their own site. When I called the skating rink the voice mail said that the most accurate hours would be on their website so I go by those hours. Today I went when their site said they would be open and they weren't. It wasn't just me who thought they would be open. There were several other cars waiting as well. For the ULTIMATE old school party experience rent out the entire skating rink at Thunderbird for yourself and your retro-fabulous friends. Go the extra mile and make it a themed party and it will be an evening you and your guests will not forget. Albeit nearly a month late, I decided to celebrate a milestone birthday at Thunderbird Saturday night from 11pm-1am to the tune of a 70's disco jamskate. When my friends and I arrived 15 minutes early, the place was still packed with kids of all ages. Here I was thinking roller skating was just popular when I was a kid! Did us adults feel a little out of place walking around in our bell bottom pants and afros amongst all the little people? Heck no! Not when you've had several pints of liquid courage beforehand - you feel totally bad ass until some kid wants to pet your fro. The place cleared out 10 after 11pm whereupon every gleaming square inch of the wood skating rink was all ours. Upon request, the DJ spun 100% 70s disco tunes like KC and A Fifth of Beethoven. Ah yeah! Now that's what I call Saturday Night Fever! For two glorious hours, my pimpin' crew jamskated on the dance floor like it was 1979. These guys are pros at doing birthday parties. For $300 you get entrance and rentals for 30 skaters, free soft drinks, 2 hours of skate time, and a trip to the Money Machine. I may have only grabbed $7 from the Money Machine (not quite enough to pay the bill in its entirety), but I did feel like a $30,000 millionaire for a very brief moment when I emerged clutching my crumpled $1 bills. I thought I was the oldest "kid" to have a birthday party there, but apparently they had someone celebrate their 65th birthday there so I guess it's never too late to have a roller skate party. Do yourself a favor. Go to your closet, dig out your old four wheelers, and hit the skating track today. Do it. Best two hours you'll have in a long time. read more

This is a cool place. I had my birthday party here and everyone had fun. So why only 2-stars? The owners are pretty incompetent. I met with the owner dude and settled on the date and time. He offered to reserve me one of the rooms and allow me to bring some snacks and bottled waters. He then told me to finalize my guest list so we can negotiate a per-person fee for the party. After I got my guest list together a week later and to go meet him again, he tells me that he gave my room away to another party. He didn't even bother to call me to follow-up. The guy has no clue on how to run a business. This place has so much potential if the owners actually had any type of customer relation skills. I would HIGHLY recommend getting things in writing because he will go back on some of the agreements at the date of the party. He probably knows he can squeeze people when faced with desperate situation. Hrmm....maybe I should have changed this review to just one-star. read more

It reminds of the skating rink of my childhood, but the looks of this rink is still in the past. The actual wooden rink is in good shape, but the AC vents are covered in filth. First of all let me say that I had to do a ton of research on this place this past month due to the horrible reviews I found all over the internet. I asked friends and other parents I know have been here a few times or people that go consistently. I found out that most of the bad reviews on the internet are from kids that either worked there at one point or were friends of kids that did. They tried to spam every site with exaggerated stories or outright lies about this roller rink due to whatever argument they had with the owners. Pretty pitiful imho especially when we are all just looking for a place to skate and or have a party. We don't care about your internal power struggles. I can tell you I had my son's 8th birthday party there this past Sunday. I had almost 30 kids show up for it, and it was crazy. When I arrived, a very friendly woman greeted me and explained how she would hand out tickets to each child attending, and she stood at the door juggling 4 other parties at the same time but every single one of my guests got their ticket with no issue. Even with all the other parties going on at the same time, we had plenty of table space to use for presents and purses/shoes and the kids all had a blast. The top 40's music was fun and toward the end the DJ played games on the rink with the kids like limbo and races. The only suggestions I have are that if you do purchase a party package with pizza they do not make the pizza in house. So you have to wait a while to get into your party room and the kids can get thirsty. So either bring your own drinks or show the kids the water fountain. Also, the girls behind the snack counter are the ones that set up the party room, but they did not stay in the party room to help out. That I do wish was different. Also there are only 3 party rooms but they had booked maybe 4 or 5 parties so we did have to wait quite a while for a room to be free and apparently for our pizza to arrive. We had my 6 year old's party there today, and I think it went very well. I gotta say I wasn't keen on a roller party, all the rinks are old. All of them. Get past that, and you'll see these guys throw a great party. It was a bit hectic, not having a party room or home base area the entire time, but I knew what I got going in. We bought the $125 party and there were no surprises. Yeah, it's old, or retro, what have ya...but when the kid demands roller skating, this is your only bet. Haven't been here for 25 years or so....nothing's changed! That good for the retro feel, but not so much in that it's very run down and FILTHY. The carpet, walls, everything is old and dirty. Wow...I have no idea where these bad reviews are coming from, so I want to share my experience and get their rating up! We've been here twice in the past four months or so...and had a blast with our 8 year old, and are even planning his birthday party here. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews. My only complaint is that the intercom system isn't the best, and it's difficult to understand the DJ sometimes when he's on the mic. Other than that, I think the staff is extremely helpful. They have "referees" skating on the floor making sure there is no rough-housing, they will assist small children or beginning skaters when they're out on the rink, and do a great job of "monitoring" the older kids who are there to ensure there aren't any shenanigans going on. As far as a skating rink goes, this place was nice. But the reports of the owner having Zero People skills... They couldn't be any more truthful. Trying to speak with him makes you want to smack him. Very straight forward, doesn't really care about anything other than getting your money. (But he is running a business, so it is somewhat the expected operation of things) I did witness him being rude to one of the associates there. A young kid, maybe 16, was walking past and the guy asked "Where are you going?" in a very rude tone. The kid said, "I'm heading home now." Right in front of everyone, the owner said, "You don't leave until I tell you that you can! Get back behind the counter!" It wasn't exactly the correct way to treat an employee in front of customers. But anyway. The place didn't seem very clean, but it is an old place. There was a smell in the air... Seemed like there wasn't a decent amount of air flow in the joint. We were there for a party, and they reserved a party room. That room was like an oven! The smell in there was even worse. The bathroom had a cleaner smell to it. Aside from all of that... The skating aspect was fine. Maybe they could lower the price for kids though. The music was all types of genres. The concession stand wasn't too over priced. Maybe eat prior to showing up. It was clean, they handled the skate checkout and walker rental well. Biggest buzz kill and ruined the day=they kept getting on the microphone and yelling rules. I understand the need for rules and they have every right to have them. But they need to be out on the actual floor enforcing them. We were there for 1.5 hours and they came on the mic 6 times, including one irate woman yelling about "yall's gum." Again, PLEASE GET OUT ON FLOOR, skate around, and remind people of the rules. I guarantee you that the younger skaters will abide by the rules better if you actually tell them face to face, rather than using the microphone. Super crowded on Saturday. read more

New owners took over about 7 months ago, I believe. Not much has changed, but I think that may be part of the appeal-retro. The bathrooms could use some repair. Otherwise, my children had a blast! Our birthday party we had there, right when the new owners took over, was very reasonable and we were pleased. I did not think the gun/hunting video game was appropriate for children, or anyone for that matter. I'm not going to lie. As a kid who grew up in the 80's this place is exactly like the roller rinks I used to go to. Completely retro with a decent snack bar for the kids. My two kids love this skating rink and I can't blame them. On the weekends (during the evenings) they have a Plano Police Officer at the skating rink to ensure safety. I feel safe enough to leave my kids up there for a few hours without me having to be present. The employees are always helpful and they help enforce the rules when other skates aren't knowledgeable on skating etiquette. Horrible customer service!! The DJ talks half the time and rarely plays songs. Beware that if you book a birthday party you'll only get the room for 30 minutes to eat pizza and have cake during that timeframe. Don't even bother bringing decorations because you won't be able to use them. Parking is a disaster and the check in room is always packed so beware that you'll probably have to stand outside in the cold. Today myself and a group of friends hosted a back to school party for our children's fifth grade class. From the time I confirmed the party on the phone through the party time in the room everyone was very nice, helpful and truly kind. There was plenty of pizza and drinks, the games on the rink were fun and interactive. Then... As the children were putting on their shoes to leave a lady comes screaming, and I mean screaming at everyone to leave as she said, "We have a private party people and you need to leave now"!! Well, first of all our party was until 5:00 and we cordially gave up 15 minutes of our time. No discount offered for the reduced time period. Second of all it was 100 degrees outside and I was with three children who hadn't been picked up yet, since it wasn't 5:00. Then the lady who I spoke to originally on the phone said, "oh I told you on the phone the party was to end early". Uh No! I didn't mind the party ending early, but the rude and obnoxious manner in which everyone in the rink was treated was just mind blowing. It wasn't just us. When we went outside many children from other groups were waiting in the 100 degree temperature. No water was offered and I really felt bad for all the patrons. This roller rink needs a face lift both in decor and in the manner they treat their customers. Our last impression will stay with all the guests who were thrown out of the building. read more

I wanted to be able to write a positive review, however, I can't. The facility is outdated and my kids turned to me and said "it smells bad in here". Additionally, parking is very limited and the spaces aren't very suv friendly. Also, they don't give refunds (that should tell you something). I am new to the area, so, I googled roller rinks nearby. Thunderbird and interskate roller rink both were close. I chose to try thunderbird. On the site (Apple phone) it stated they closed at 9pm. When i got there at 4pm I already paid and I heard over the intercom they closed at 5:30pm. We didn't even step foot on the skate floor, and I went to the front desk to try to get my money back (no refunds). I showed the women their site stated it closed at 9pm, but she said they don't know why Apple is that way. On android it shows they close at 5:30pm. She did offer me one free skate coupon (I paid for 3 people). It was not meant for my family to be at that skating rink, and I won't be returning. We ended up going to Interskate roller rink, which had more seating, and it was cleaner. I am sure there are more roller rinks in the Dallas area too. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend spending your money at this particular skating rink. read more

Can you say remodel please? Where should I start? Well, how about the parking lot. Too many pot holes, so how come you can't fix it? Second, the smell of the place when you walk in. It's disgusting. Third, nasty, and old carpet that has never seen a vaccum cleaner. Fourth, the rude little girl who sit's behind the music area, and act's like she is the boss. Her music choice's are awful. OMG.... I just had my sons 8th birthday here and I can not say enough good things about this place. We had an absolute blast!!!!!!! My experience here was great from beginning to end. I'm going to be honest when I first thought about having his party here I was extremely hesitant because of the reviews. But we kind of waited last minute so we were limited with options. We went in to look at the place on a Tuesday to see what the inside looked like and we were pleasantly surprised. Ava (I believe she's one of the owners) was sooooo sweet and helpful, she answered all of my questions and seemed happy to help. We booked the party that night and the rest is history lol. The party rooms were clean and nicely decorated we had a glow room and the kids LOVED IT! The bathrooms weren't the most up to date but I have definitely seen worse. The skating rink floor was kept up and smooth. It looked the way you would expect a skating rink to look. It took me back to my young days and I loved it. Long story short the kids had a ball the parents were pleased (a couple mothers even said they may have their child's party here) and most importantly the birthday boy was smiling from ear to ear! It was for sure a success! If you're considering having a party here I would definitely say go for it!! read more

ummm where should I start... hmmm let just say, this place has an "retro" feel to it! No, FRFR! I doubt it very seriously if the csrpet has ever been changed ! honestly believe this stuff is Circa 1985. One good thing however, you can drop an entire meatlovers Pizza, Red Fanta, buffalo wings with extra sauce and would never know except for the smell. The bathrooms, hmmm at least they've managed to keep clean (sorta) that old school 1inch turquoise tile on the floor. I haven't skated in years and considering I'm from thr West Coast where the rinks were kept up to par, I doubt I'll return during this lifetime. Our daughter went here recently for a birthday party. I think it's amazing how all skating rinks look the same. This one looks like the one in Florida I used to skate at in the 70s. In fact, I don't think they've updated anything since the 70s. I'm not sure if they've cleaned since then either. The place is a bit dirty.
