Three times in a week- shameful, I know. But it's that good! First trip- black beans, Cali chicken taco, carne asada taco. All really good, but the carne asada was amazing and I couldn't wait to go back for another! Second trip-special of the day- grilled tuna tacos with black beans, side of sweet potatoes and asparagus. This was good, but not phenomenal. Third trip- last full day in Lewisburg, went for lunch but forgot the carne asada tacos aren't available until 4pm. Got chips n queso (maybe the best queso I've EVER had) and two braised beef tacos. I don't have a clue what ingredient was the star, but these were OUTSTANDING! - I could eat one every day of my life, I think! Staff is friendly and fun! The place seems to stay busy and has a great, casual, comfy vibe! As a taco fanatic, from homemade to Mexican places to street taco stands, I have to say open your mind- these are a bit different, but then open your mouth cuz this different is GREAT! read more

Wowee! What flavor. Delicious combinations with each FRESH ingredient coming through. Real Chimichurri, for goodness' sake! It's casual, friendly, people seem to know each other and if you're a stranger, you are made to feel welcome. My one pet peeve is that the interior is all hard, reflective surfaces. So between the kitchen sounds, the very lively music, the people talking and the street noise... it's pretty noisy. When I stopped talking (LOUDLY) to my meal partner and listened, I realized all the other patrons were also having to speak loudly, over all the noise. I'm no sound expert so cannot make a suggestion on how to dampen some of the ricocheting noise but I do suggest considering doing so. Put my partner and me a bit on edge and it was a relief to hit the sidewalk. read more

Awesome and delicious! An acquaintance in the area recommended this place, and boy am I glad I took her advice. Lots of amazing vegetarian options, if you're so inclined, and I hear the meat is first-rate as well. Also all locally sourced, which is always a good thing. And so much variety on the menu--it was tough to decide what to order, and if I end up in the area again, I want to go back so I can try out some of the other options! This place is cool and the staff were really friendly. I'd really give it 3.5. Took my two young children and they enjoyed the cheese quesadillas. I had three different tacos. Each one was $4. All were decent, but were lacking in flavor. My wife had the guacamole burrito, and found it to not have very much avocado or guacamole in it. She agreed with my assessment that they go a little light on seasoning. She also had a margarita which she says was delicious. I would return to this place for dinner, but if they resolved the flavor issue, it would be a much better place. read more

Nice to have a cute spot in town serving up something a little different! Would like to see some options that are grain free, I would eat there more often. Prices are a bit more than I would expect but the quality is great! Of course one expects great tacos in West Virginia. But oh my! I don't think I've ever had better tacos anywhere and I could eat the creamed chipotle corn forever. Plus a terrific beer selection. Great tacos and beautiful establishment! Let me start by saying that the inside of the building itself is worth going for. The décor is amazing, lots of hand-made art on the walls, not to mention the walls themselves. Super bright and colorful, feels like the kind of place you can easily sit and have a few drinks before heading out into the cold night. Then there were the tacos. They have some standard options, braised beef was excellent, but most of their tacos are of a more creative variety. I was a bit hesitant (grew up in New Mexico, so I have pretty strong opinions on what a taco should be), but now I'm confident that you can't make a bad choice. I had the Thunderbird, braised beef, and another one that I can't quite remember the name of. They were all amazing, but the Thunderbird was definitely my favorite. If you've ever had a taco on the beaches of San Diego, this will take you right back to that spot (minus the sand). We also had a Guacadilla (quesadilla with a ton of toppings on top), and several margaritas/beers. The spicy margarita was my favorite, they squeeze the limes fresh for each drink. The owners themselves were there the two times I went (in 3 days) and they were extremely friendly and open to give suggestions and info about the local area. For an otherwise relatively bleak outlook on restaurants in the area, this place stood out as a solid go-to for lunch or dinner and some drinks. read more

My family and I stopped in yesterday, Monday, September 3, 2018, and were very disappointed. We had high hopes for this trendy-looking place. My wife ordered a Regular Joe taco, and I had a Spicy Joe taco, my son a Tex Burrito, and my daughter, who eats like a bird, ordered a side of rice. The ONLY item worth eating was the Tex Burrito, and it was just okay. If ours hadn't been so bad I wonder if we would have been at all impressed with it. The side of rice with the burrito, and the one my daughter ordered were flavorless and hard, as in undercooked, or so old it had dried out. Both of our tacos, the Regular Joe and Spicy Joe, were bland, as well. Plus, the tortillas were dry and hard on the edges. Again very disappointing. Perhaps the most disappointing was the price; 2 tacos, 1 burrito including a side of rice, the side of rice alone, and ONE drink was over $21! We had eaten here once before with mixed results that time, and decided to give it another try. After this time, however, there will not be another experience for our family at Thunderbird Taco. I give it 2 stars only because of the atmosphere, which is very fun and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives-like. If not for that, I would have been hard-pressed to give it 1. I expected better from this eclectic town with all of its quirky charm, and very cool shops. By the way, no one on the staff asked how we liked our food, or seemed at all concerned about our experience there. read more

I was't expecting this, even in this hip little town! A Southwest/Cali vibe, very fresh ingredients. Tacos have amazing flavor profiles, with lots dally-sourced beef. The contrast in favors, textures and temperatures guarantee a return trip in our near future. Pickled onions and cabbage on top, perfectly thin-sliced jalapeños on the spicy varieties. Great prep technique.We had the Spicy Joe, Braised Beef, and a chicken taco that I don't remember the name of. (I do remember that it was delicious.) We had all on soft corn tortillas, perfectly prepared. In addition, we got a free sample of the soup of the day, a great mixture of hominy, pinto beans, tomatoes, chilies and southwest flavors. Carne Asada is only available at dinner, so next trip will be in the evening. Also looking forward to trying a Korean BBQ taco only available at dinner and some of the vegetarian varieties.
