Rare sighting!!! The Thunderbirds all lined up!!
    Jessica P.

Wow-wee!! I always get excited seeing US Military fighter jets, whether it be the US Air Force Thunderbirds (F-16 Fighting Falcon) or US Navy Blue Angels (F/A-18 Super Hornet)...I love watching them in the air, hearing them roar by, or lined up sharply on the ground. I mean, how about the latest Top Gun Maverick movie??!! Sooo good!!! And how lucky are we that Nellis Air Force Base in Southern Nevada is home to this Air Demonstration Squadron - Thunderbirds!!! We normally get a glimpse of the one Thunderbirds aircraft exhibit on static display just outside of the Thunderbirds hangar, but this time we were able to visit the museum on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, around 10:30am. Bonus: from the parking lot we got a peek of ten Thunderbirds F-16's lined up! What a treat! We sat in the movie theater for a mini documentary, walked through the briefing room, and viewed various memorabilia such as log books, uniforms, photos, and also video of celebrity VIP's in-flight and watching their reactions. Actor Josh Duhamel pulled over 9-G's (9x his body weight)! Must check out the conference table...seats are numbered for the 12 Thunderbirds Officers (8 Pilots and 4 Critical Support Roles). Notice the #5 number is upside down. I learned the reason is the pilot spends most of his time inverted in the sky! Must have a DoD ID or be sponsored to access installation to enter museum, which is subject to closure without notice due to high operations tempo of the squadron. View their show schedule online. This year on November 5-6, they will be here at Nellis AFB for the "Aviation Nation Air Show" which will be open to the public! Mark your calendars!!

Speaks for itself! Absolutely incredible! We visited Nellis Air Force Base for Aviation Nation (air show), 11/6/22, and wow were we not disappointed. My wife and I walked through a C-5 Super Galaxy and sat in a T-33 and sat in an F-16. What an amazing experience! We watched a "battle" between an F-35 and an F-16. Aerobatic Champions Bill Stein and Rob Holland made an appearance and showed off their skills in the Edge540 and MXS. The F-22 Raptor tore up the sky in an incredible display of its unmatched tactical fighting power! The Thunderbirds performed and we were in such awe, as aviation lovers, that the time flew by and we didn't want it to end! They held an autograph session at the end and we got our model Thunderbird signed from The Commander, Thunderbird #1, callsign Astro! Definitely recommend this experience to everyone who loves aviation, or is looking for a lifetime experience. We will be keeping a close eye on their air show schedule for next year!

I came to Nellis AFB for a work trip and was really looking forward to seeing the Thunderbirds museum. I called the Public Affairs Officer number to confirm that the museum would be open and the voice message said the museum was open and their operational hours were Monday-Friday 0900-1500. I got there at 1145 on a Friday and the doors were locked. I decided to grab lunch and come back after 1300. The doors were still locked and no one picked up their phone lines. Super disappointed since it was the one thing on base I really wanted to see.

We booked our tickets ahead online because it appeared that in the past they would sell out, but we could have easily purchased them at the door. The museum houses old working and non-working neon signs from Las Vegas past. There's everything from old cleaners signs to old casinos like the Stardust. I highly recommend that you visit at night so that you can see a lot of the boneyard lit up. They offer guided tours but we opted out. There's plenty of signage throughout the museum to give context and history to what you're looking at, although the guided tour would have been cool. We spent about an hour walking amongst the signs and I didn't want it to be over! They have a separate fenced off section with signs that will never light up, but I wish that we could have explored that section as well, since many of the signs that they had on display in the main area also didn't light up. It was so cool to see this piece of Las Vegas history.

It was really cool to see and learn about Vegas's history, and it was fun checking out this spot! Night time 8pm-Midnight is where its at here, doesn't seem like it would be as cool to see during the day. Tickets are overpriced though - you can get a similar experience walking through Downtown Las Vegas/Fremont Street. I fortunately was able to get a $5 discount per ticket for both mine and my friend's ticket (I paid for both of us) with my USC student ID as a graduate student, but the girl selling the tickets got confused when she thought that meant I graduated already - I had to clarify that no, that means I finished my undergraduated (bachelors degree) and am working on my Masters degree.

Walking in we were greeted with a very friendly smile, were shown the map, told highlights of the museum and had all questions answered with very friendly service! I loved the striking giraffe statues and loved that all animals except the large eagle were taxidermy! I couldn't believe just how massive the giraffes were, it is a very striking impact to have them greet you at the entrance! Great placement! Stuffed animal room was very neat to see, I have only seen animals like this in a museum in Elko Nevada. We moved on to the aquarium room, saw some small sharks, and some cool fish like puffer fish! We loved the dinosaur room and that would have been way cool if my kiddo was younger!!! The highlight for me, what I was here for was the Egyptian exhibit! Wow!!!! I learned sooooo much and can't belive the actual artifacts that are on display here!! They were absolutely amazing!! This exhibit alone was worth the money!! Our kids loved all the interactive exhibits, especially the fossil dig, the moving sand table, and the hands-on play areas. There was plenty to keep them engaged, and they also enjoyed seeing the dinosaurs, marine life, and live animals throughout the museum. Admission: Around $15 for adults and $7 for children (ages 3-11). Kids 2 and under are free, making it an affordable family outing. Parking: Free parking is available, which was a huge plus. Tips: * Plan for about 2-3 hours to see everything. * The hands-on exhibits are the highlight, so allow extra time for those. * Great indoor activity, especially during the hot Las Vegas summer. The museum isn't huge, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5, but it's clean, well maintained, and offers a fun, educational experience for young children. We'd definitely recommend it to families visiting Las Vegas!

And unless they show us the numbers and budget and all that, I'll continue to believe our money is being pocketed. They do not check on their properties or clean them up. They put out a lot of survey's but nothing ever comes of it. I'm still wondering about that in house inspection about 2 years ago... even the guy doing the inspection was shaking his head at how bad things were and it's been crickets since. They do not care about your life with these out of date fire detectors and none of them are near anything that would catch on fire which I don't understand. The landscaping company they hire does an awful job. And they don't clean up the massive amounts of dog crap in the "parks". Yes, it's the dog owners responsibility, but at the end of the feckin day, it is YOUR property to upkeep, Hunt. Commissary is a commissary. Foods constantly out of date, or damaged. Terrible produce, and terrible stock rotation and ordering. It's gonna be worse when they privatize it soon, or just flat out close them. But, right now it's the cheapest place to go in these expensive times. We of course live on the worst side of the city. And it's not the people's fault it's the gentrification of the rich. The BX is like an old 90's mall, but all of the stores are open and there's vendors lining the middle of the halls, and a food court. They also have a lot of unnecessary and expensive stuff. And do not EVER buy something large (like appliances or furniture) and have it shipped to you from AAFES. We won't *ever* make that mistake again. You won't know when it's coming and it'll come completely damaged at that and you'll have to do all the work of doing a return. Just avoid it entirely. 5 stars to the on base shop at the gas station. We trust them with our vehicles.

This place is a huge indoor playground with three floors of hands-on exhibits that kept them moving the whole time. They loved Toddler Town on the first floor the desert themed soft play, sensory elements, and crawl spaces were just right for their age. But the real highlight was The Summit, the giant 70-foot climbing structure that spans all three floors with 12 levels. I was surprised how well our 2 and 3 year olds handled it! They climbed the levels with no problem, exploring different challenges and interactive spots at their own pace. It was great to see their confidence grow as they went up and down. They also enjoyed the water play area (smocks provided still recommend a change of clothes) and some of the imaginative play zones. We spent about 2.5-3 hours there, and it felt like the perfect energy-burner in air-conditioned comfort a lifesaver in Las Vegas! The museum is clean, the staff is friendly, and it's very stroller-friendly. Admission is $15 for Nevada locals with valid ID and $20 for non-locals (kids under 1 are free). We went on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded, which made chasing the boys around much easier. Helpful tip for families on a budget: If you have a valid EBT, SNAP, or WIC card, you can get admission for just $5 per person (up to 4 tickets per adult cardholder cards must be shown at entry for verification; in-person only). If you have active little ones who love to climb and explore, this is a fantastic spot. Highly recommend -- we'll definitely be back!

I realize a lot of the animals here are rescues, but I truly felt sorry for all of the mammals here... do they ever see the sun? Are they allowed to go outside and get fresh air? Or do they just stay inside basking in the fluorescent lights? I feel like if they had that information posted it wouldn't be as a bummer seeing capybara's, wallabies, and tons of birds, in small cages; inside of a mall. If you're local and you haven't been here yet, it's definitely worth at least one trip.
