My biracial kids and I just left this place. I am fully black in all my God given beauty. Ok, so I…read moredid not use the pool which was clean and well kept. The kids refused to set foot in the shower area since they we're grossed out by a bug or two but that's neither here nor there or the primary cause of concern so far.... I normally let racist experiences like this slide if but since relocating from Seattle, (which I have not ever overtly been on the receiving end there), I must say this is the first time since moving 2 years ago that I was this grossed out by grown folks' behavior. This was a new feeling. From the swimming teen staff , as well as the other patrons. It was the weirdest thing watching all the white moms and their kids (around 15 total) congregate, quite packed on one side and they appeared unrelated,, and then on the other side (we were there first BTW) just me with 12 other empty pool lounge chairs! . Yup. I am not making this up folks, it was quite entertaining but I had work to do so ignored active "segregation " which was too coincidental to ignore. As for my kids, they ofcourse had a blast AND will be back with their aunt that grew up a block away and physically " fits" right in! I will be back if they insist but the vibes were not receptive but I've educated them to not let their value come from others. I stayed an extra 10 minutes in the car to immediately render this review and saw the side I left slowly started being occupied, and I feel good articulating this as a warning to anyone new who is either black or a minority to let them be aware of this. I am happy to say we were definitely not bothered or experienced negative oral communication, however as we hear growing up..'actions speak louder than words'. Do not recommend based on the above. Lifeguards as well showed poor hospitality to an acute degree. But it's learned at home for the most part isn't it? And yes, it's still 2018, lol. "Buyer Beware" depending on the 'type of buyer you are. We then went next across the lake to Alexander's Ice Cream which has routinely been a top pick for a delicious bite or treat while enjoying a Safe, Inclusive environment when I make the 15 minutes trip to Cicero.

The kids area looked to be updated with a toddler slide, and the big slide was fast and fun!!! I will definitely be back. They are open even in the winter and it was a good day to go today because it was slightly raining out. 4 stars because they have a good court with nothing in it.

Eh -- Indy Island is OK. I'll start with the positives:…read more 1. There were always at least half a dozen lifeguards circling the perimeter of the pool and water area. They were constantly walking back and forth, checking things out, so I always felt like my kids were safe. 2. This indoor aquatic center is open year-round, so kids have a place to splash, wade and swim even when it's freezing outside. The day I visited, the water temperature was nice and warm, and the ambient air temp was just as inviting. 3. It's really inexpensive. Prices range from $4 to $6 dollars depending on age and the day you visit. Kids 2 and younger are free. 4. This is a small indoor water park, but it's big enough to have fun for hours. Now for the negatives: 1. This indoor water park is really old and in need of an update, and it shows. The playground structures in the water area are visibly rusted and look dirty. 2. The lock to the bathroom / changing room I was in DID NOT LOCK. It goes without saying that their changing rooms should have working locks. I had to stand by the door to block it, hoping that no one would try to come in! It also didn't have a trash can, for some reason. 3. The hallway to the changing room was super dark and didn't have any lights. Pretty much the last place you want to be changing in is a dark and creepy room. Fix the lightbulbs! This is another simple thing that could be fixed if they kept up the place. 4. They don't allow outside food or drinks inside the aquatic center. You can buy food and drinks at their snack bar, but when I was there (on a weekend), it was closed. Not sure what they expect visitors to do with a closed snack bar during operating hours. I like that Indy offers places like Indy Island so kids can enjoy swimming and playing in the water indoors. But this place is in need of some TLC in order to compete with some of the other indoor aquatic centers.

We drove past the newly renovated Riley Pool last week and my kids, seeing the big water slides,…read morerock climbing wall, splash pad, and diving boards, have been hassling me to take them since. We live a good 30 miles from Greenfield but I don't mind making the drive for some fun. We went this afternoon and ... well, as the star rating indicates, it could have been better. First, the positive: the facility is clean, large, and has a lot of options for seating. The splash pad is the largest I've seen and very well maintained. The landscaping is nice and the playground out front is nice and artistic-looking. But... and I hate that there's a "but" ... This place is run like a prison yard, with 16-year-olds in bucket hats instead of burly guards in uniforms. They must go through a lot of whistles with all the reprimanding they do. Among our offenses: I dove off the high dive, my 9-year-old son wore goggles with a nose covering, my 4-year-old daughter high-stepped it too quickly through the toddler area... I know there were other things. It got to where every time I heard one of those whistles, I jumped and assumed I was doing something wrong. I noticed several other families being tweeted at as well. I don't have a problem with rules. If no headfirst diving is allowed, fine. If they don't want swim masks being worn, cool. The issue I have is that there were plenty of teenage kids doing ridiculous stunts off the diving boards, wrestling each other on the pool deck, holding each other underwater, cursing each other out... and the lifeguards just sat there waiting for this 40-year-old mom to sit the wrong way on the side of the pool. My kids just wanted to leave after being hassled for an hour and a half. I think whomever is responsible for training Riley Pool's staff might want to remind them that their peers should be under the same level of scrutiny as parents and young children.
