Plan was to paddle from Old Forge to Inlet and get shuttled back to OF. We go in to get all squared away for the day and find they had cancelled the shuttle. A bit of a bummer, since that was all part of the day's plan, but we made the most of it. We decided to paddle to Inlet anyway and back. We make it about 2 miles away from the Inlet boat launch, but the wind kicked up and my tiny self couldn't paddle against it as fast as hoped, so we got ourselves back to Old Forge so we could return the rentals with time to spare. Great day on the water despite the cancellation and not reaching our destination.
I wasn't going to leave a review until my boyfriend informed me that he was contacted by an employee of Tickner's stating they didn't arrange a shuttle because they doubted we could make it to Inlet, saying it would be a "hard day." Well if we didn't have to paddle back to Old Forge, we would have made it easy peasy. I understand that a business needs to make sure they're keeping their clientele safe and keeping realistic expectations. But it's unfortunate (and even a little offensive) that they assumed we weren't capable of the trip we planned. And I know it upsets my boyfriend who spent so much time looking up travel distances and arranging a rental that could do a shuttle. Now in Tickner's defense, they do state in their dated website that shuttles are generally reserved for weekly rentals, not day rentals. But in prior communication with Tickner's they stated the shuttle would be fine, so I'm wondering why this ended being an issue.
I've decided to update my review (lowering by a star, but maybe more) following suspicion that one of the employees is writing a good review for this business following my boyfriend's poor review and also giving his competitor a poor review on the same day. Completely unprofessional and not beneficial or honest to the yelp community. read more
