After hearing John. G rave about the Birria Tacos at Los Gemelos, I had to stop by, and let me tell you, he was spot on--they were incredibly tasty! The tacos were generously filled with meat, and the sauce added a delightful savory kick. The torta and burrito were also a hit, boasting substantial portions that left me satisfied. I appreciated the thoughtful touch of being promptly served salsa and chips upon being seated. I'm already eager to return to explore more of their menu options and pay a visit to the Mexican supermarket attached to the restaurant.

I had been to Tienda Los Gemelos awhile back but couldn't remember too much about whether I liked it or not. I swung in here during an early weekday lunch when I was craving some tacos to go. I sat at the bar while I waited, and definitely would come back here to sample some margarita next time. All of the staff I interacted with were very nice and the food service was very efficient. Got my food quickly. I ordered three tacos to go - a steak, chicken, and pastor taco. All were yummy, cooked well, and had ample amount of meat inside the tacos. I certainly hope to return soon for dine-in at the bar and will update my review as necessary. Worth checking out, especially for the reasonable prices!

What an amazing place! I love that it is a grocery store and a restaurant. I ordered 3 tacos (2 steak and 1 steak and chorizo) and a side of rice. I love an authentic Mexican restaurant.

Los Gamelos is definitely THE place to get all your Mexican food cravings in Madison! My first visit was 2 years ago and I have been coming every time I was in Madison. They were closed for quite a long time due to remodeling so its been a long time since then. I really enjoy eating their tacos. Tacos arent palm-sized like most of the tacos sold in Los Angeles but rather hand-sized. Its pretty big so it fills you up really good. I tried Carne Asada, Pastor and Pollo and they were all great. I personally liked the Pollo the most because it was sooo moist and yet flavorful. Soft cheese on top of shredded chicken meat was quite pleasant. Tostadas are also one of my favorites to get. If you dont want to get too messy, please dont order tostadas. You're going to end up getting messy no matter how hard you try. Not just here but EVERYWHERE else! Avocados, Queso Fresco and Crema on top of crispy tortilla bedded with your meat choice gives your mouth full of variety flavors! Maybe they can add or ask for thinly sliced onions and it will be PERFECT. Chips and Salsa is given as complimentary as you take a seat at the table. Servers are friendly and nice but sometimes its hard to find your server. Parking is spacious enough to accommodate large groups. As you enter la Tienda (store), feel free to grab a bottle of Jarrito to your table and they will just charge it onto your bill! After recent remodeling, redo of the store and the restaurant, Los Gamelos seem even more promising than before! Why dont you come and try their food with some margarita tonight?

Great Mexican Mexican in the back of a pretty decent mexican grocery. If what you want is traditional mexican food, served in a slightly run down and beat up store, this is your place. Full Bar. Salsa's are on the spicy side, fyi. I would give the food a 4, but since they have the full grocery, it gets bumped up. If you want super clean and neat....well....It's clean enough.

This place initially threw me off as the entrance is in the back of a Mexican grocery store, but they have some of my favorite tacos in Madison. I love their steak tacos and have also tried their tostadas which were great. They always bring ketchup containers filled with salsas to the table and I love adding it my tacos. Most recently, my friend got one of their pambazos, it was kinda like a greasier torta and quite tasty. One warning is that more recently their service has been pretty terrible and we basically had to flag down the servers to receive service at all, but sometimes that's the price you pay for a good taco.

Arrived around 2pm on a Sunday afternoon and the place was packed. Took around 50 minutes to get our order of steak fajitas, pork tamale, side of guacamole, 3 tacos (steak, chicken, pork) and Gordita (potato and chorizo). Waitress was nice but man, that's a long time to wait for food like that. Fajitas were just okay, more veggies than anything, lacked flavor (and salt), tamale wasn't good, but the proportion of meat to masa was admirable, gordita was okay, and the tacos, especially the steak taco, were delicious. I will go back for the steak and pork tacos. Chips and salsa at the table prior to meal - chips from a bag, not hot and fresh, green salsa, lots of heat and cilantro and fresh tomatoes. The guacamole was very good, freshly made, and only tomatoes, onion and cilantro with ripe avocados. The chips that adorned it were considerably fresher than the ones at the table. The beans were okay, the rice was terrible. It is definitely hidden; I knew about La Mestiza which is nearby (across the street) but you'd have to know this was here to even go looking for it. I'd likely go back for some margaritas and the steak tacos but that's it. There are other comparable authentic Mexican places in Madison - like Los Atlantes and Taqueria Guadalajara.

My favorite - their tacos. A MUST!

If you're looking for some excellent authentic Mexican food, you need to come to this restaurant! The BEST Mexican restaurant in Madison. Service is efficient and the perfect amount of niceness! Only thing to be prepared when coming here is that it is inside/connected to a grocery store - which you have to enter through. But as you head towards the back to the restaurant, you'll be surprised at how big the actual restaurant is! Esther's favorite: the pastor tacos!

    Their horchatas are sooo good!
    Christina O.

I absolutely love this place! The prices are super reasonable. I have had their potato and chorizo and shredded chicken gorditas, their pastor pork on the sope was amazing and super flavorful and that thing on its own is filling for under $4, their quesadillas were a bit different than I have had before, they were deep fried and looked like a taco, but boy were they cheesy! I had the quesadilla with shredded chicken and it went well with it. Last time I ordered the shredded chicken over a sope it was bland and not as flavorful as my second time around. Their milenesa plate is by far my favorite dish they have. Their horchata, micheladas, and salsa are all yummy. The restaurant is on the side of their store. Lots of goodies and fresh bakery goods at the entrance. Good views of the televisions from the seats, but both times it was a show that was in Spanish. There is a bar area in the corner that doesn't seem to be used much. Don't forget to grab a $1.50 paleta ice cream on the way out. One of my favorites is the rice cream - horchata on a stick.

Pistachio one was my favorite. There were many Asian ice creams. Propitious mango was a good one. There were a lot of small food places in the food hall. I tried food from a lot of different places. The food hall had a lot of seats, and was neatly maintained. It was never crowded. Kawasaki is close to the entry of Global Market. So the first time I was there, I went straight to this place. I think I should have gone for some of their more favorite items like chive and pork dumpling. From Nice Flavor Stir Fry , I went for a sauteed sliced lamb with cumin. Generally this is a really flavorful dish which you cannot go wrong with. But it wasn't as good as I expected. Flavors were off, and the quality fo meat was not as good as I expected. Stir fry chicken mei fun was my favorite item from Bowl Bowl Rice. It came hot and was flavorful. I also had a tea leaf flavor egg. It was just $1. But it came with egg shell. I had to peel it. Egg was slightly less flavorful than I expected. Mochi donut is the main item in Glazed. There were some food items as well, but I didn't find takers for that. I went for 3 donuts - Oreo, honey dew and churro. The flavors were all interesting. May be oreo was my favorite. Donut texture was more chewy. From S&B Hmong Kitchen, I went for a fried rice from this place. It was flavorful. Cilantro and scallion on top gave a nice flavor kick. From Poké Mì, I went for a drunken noodles as my entree. Ordering is easy-make your selection and pay in the front. I ordered a 1/2 pound of pork belly and a link of sausage. I liked that both were fresh and presented right in front of you. From an execution/taste perspective, both were good (but not great). The sausage was on the greasy side and lacked the punch of lemongrass and other seasonings that are the mark of a good hmong sausage.
