I have enjoyed visiting this bakery twice. I love their tamales and have gotten them both times. The sweet breads are tasty. I do prefer the sugar coated breads and pastries. I plan to come back anytime we are celebrating a family event. The staff is pleasant and helpful to me and my little Spanish language knowledge. Prices are reasonable.

We ordered a Tres Leches cake for my daughters birthday and it way above our expectations. Not only was it delicious, it was so pretty! The frosting was light and not super sugary like store cakes. The whole family loved it!!

Part bakery, taqueria, beer store, meat shop, international telephone landline spot, and produce market. They have huge cuts available, like upwards of 10 lbs. beef shoulder, cheek, whole lamb legs, and various tripes. Cecina, beef and chicken marinated fajitas, steak for tacos, etc. are always ready for the taking. You might even find seven pepper salsa, pico de gallo, beef shank, homemeade tamales made down the street, imported Mexican cheeses, chayote, and green coconuts if you are looking for something different to add to your ethnic fooding experience.

Delicious is just beyond those doors!

I went to get bread and when I picked it up, there were roaches crawling around. I told the workers and they just said sorry.

Went to the bakery for a quick Birthday Cake. Picked a small cheesecake and a Black Forest cake. Both were great

They are known to sell expired food. Watch out for any cheese and milk products. Don't buy fruits and meat as they don't follow health code.

Prices for baked goods are outrageous. Two buns for hamburgers tonight and a doughnut costs $4.05. Last visit was today.

I know that's…read morethe typical thing you think of for Mexican food, but it has been on my list to find places that serve it in the Midwest. After trying different variations from other restaurants in Chicago and Madison, I have to say they have the best carne asada fries (titled Loaded Fries under the shareable section). The fries are wedged with an assortment of quac, sour cream, their own cheese sauce, and pico de gallo. What made it so good was the ratios of the ingredients and the cheese sauce. The portions are enough for two people to share, though you may leave with clogged arteries. Although at times there may be a language barrier with staff, they were attentive to our needs and checked on us regularly. A fun fact is that they are located behind the grocery store aspect of the place. Vibes were great.

GF got 2 steak and one chicken tacos. She said steak was good but chicken was flavorless. I got lengua and cauliflower. The lengua was not cleaned well or seared so it was just gray meat with veins and other sclera in it. Cauliflower was typical bar food "deep fried buffalo" style, but on a taco. Guac was decent. I think the gal making margaritas mixed up sugar and salt and our drinks were salty. Poor service - total of 3 people attended our table but nobody returned to check on us. Total experience $45.

Happy hour everyday which means half off select tacos and beverages. Like $3 Pacifico's and $5 for two tacos. Vegetarian tacos with potatoes were well prepared on corn tortillas. The flank steak carnitas frescas was outstanding. Little crema, little lime for acid, dash of hot sauce for heat - just delicious. Hard to describe how friendly and inclusive the vice was at Canteen. It looked really good when we saw their post on Facebook right before we went. There were only a few people there when we arrived, so we were seated right away. The waiter came pretty quick to get our order, but unfortunately, when we tried to order the burger week burger, they said they weren't making it. This was really the only reason we stopped here for lunch, so we were slightly taken off guard by this. Since we were already there, we decided to order the lunch special of two tacos, rice, beans, and a drink for $12. It took a little while for the food to come out, but everything tasted fine. The carne fresco tacos were quite tasty and I would definitely order again. Overall, the food was fine, but it was a disappointment that they didn't have the only item we came there for. We ended up ordering ahead from a different restaurant participating in burger week and went to pick it up so we at least got to try one.

Came on a Sunday afternoon to a nearly empty restaurant and got seated immediately. Ordered horchata and enchiladas verdes and ny girlfriend ordered the enmoladas. The horchata was nice, though it wasn't fresh or homemade. I was mixed on the enchiladas verdes, since the rice, beans, and chicken tasted great. My only gripe was that the salsa verde was lacking in flavor and acidity I expect from a salsa. I got to taste the enmoladas and the sauce for that seems to be their signature. Delicious and complex. My girlfriend was very happy with her meal. I was also pleased to see that you can pre-order a dozen tamales a day ahead any time (not just seasonally) I will come back again, especially to pick up more tamales rojas and to try some other dishes
