This grocery store has a really respectable array of fruits, veggies and dry goods from Asia. A good amount of pantry staples, although not as vast as selection as say, Viet Hoa. What really shines here? Their food stall. I had the spam musubi and immediately went back inside to get 2 more lol. The person working the window even gifted me shrimp toast, which was very sweet. (The shrimp toast is fire). This is more of a pick up and go kind of spot, although they have stools and a counter if want to eat there. Think cafeteria vibes but not in a derogatory way. They sell out often. I know bc I came here yesterday around 2pm, SO excited for spam musubi, only to learn that they sold out of everything at 1pm LOL. Today? I made sure to get there around 1130am. Was able to get garlic butter shrimp (7 BIG shrimp, so flavorful) served with pasta salad (delicious, I usually do not love pasta salad), and rice. I also got a shrimp lumpia (delicious) and a spam musubi for later. Food was phenomenal as usual. The food scene in Madison is not as robust as other places I've lived, but this place? A gem. This is a really nice little Asian grocery store with lots of fun snacks as well as some hot food options. It's fun to walk around and look at what they have. I also grabbed the sweet chili tofu chips as a snack, which had a very unique and interesting texture with a little spice as well. They weren't my favorite snack but it was fun to try them out. A-Mart is my favorite Asian grocery store in Madison! They have many Asian food items/exotic ingredients available that are often hard for me to find such as Thai mud fish, shrimp paste, and fresh green papayas that I specifically look for. This market also carries some exotic international produce from other parts of the world which is always fun and interesting to check out all different items everything from jackfruit, cactus leaves, spicy Thai red chili peppers, and much more. It's a great Asian market to get exotic produce, meats, speciality frozen Asian food items, and of course some Asian candy at a great price! Definitely try their fresh hot deli bar that serves a variety of different types of Asian specialities daily showcasing mostly Thai, korean, Japanese, Filipino food. You order right at the window and they have a little kitchen inside. I love their Korean Bulgogi plate/kimchi fries, Thai fried chicken, Lumpia, and grilled sausage! Who doesn't love some lumpia and Korean corndogs also! I constantly crave their Korean beef Bulgogi plate which comes ontop of rice, a side of kimchi, and cucumbers which is absolutely delicious! Their hot deli bar is a hidden gem/one of the best in the city and a great place to get a delicious, quick, cheap lunch! I love browsing their daily desserts/bakery table to find desserts that give me a warm homely feeling with Thai mango sticky rice and tapioca cake! I stopped by on a weekend during lunch time. The store had a lot of interesting international food items. Coconute creme cookie and peanut crunch were my favorite food items. Taro cake was ok. Food from the food counter was very good. Prices were reasonable. Sugar cane juice with kumquat was very flavorful. Thai style fried chicken was my favorite food item. Chicken was fried real crisp. Stuffed chicken wings was good, but it has only stuffing no real chicken meat. Bulgogi plate and Korean taco were both good entrees. Sesame ball was a good snack item. I went for fried banana as well. It was ok. Outer coating was nicelly crisp. Vietnamese donut was enjoyable. read more

Being from the West Coast, we have an enormous amount of accessibility to Asian and international markets. When my kid moved here, those options became a lot more limited and I was happy to find this Asian grocery store. I arrived just after 9 AM and they were open. I came in for two items and only purchased one, but as I walked around the aisles, they had quite the variety of sauces, noodles, frozen products, meat, etc. I opted for some rice noodles, but I was also looking for some fish cakes, but they didn't have what I was looking for. The cashier with the long ponytail was super friendly. They also have a fresh meat and fish counter towards the back and other beverages in a cooler. As I left the location, I noticed they Have a hot food deli. I think it starts at 11 so I wasn't able to review that but I would definitely come back to get maybe some of the roasted Doc etc. Location was clean and there's a parking lot right out of front. Lots of surprising items and a great selection in this store! If you are Vietnamese, I think this is one of the only places in town to get Quoc Viet brand cốt soup bases: they have phở bò, bún bò huế, phở gà, and lots of others from the same brand. There were also surprising powder mixes: bột bánh da lộn, bánh dầu cháu quậy. They also had bánh canh noodles and miếng. For korean items they had radish kimchi, bibim naengmyeon and mul naengmyeon, ddeokboki and other goods. They have balut (hột vịt lộn), porks blood, different cuts of meat and vegetables, and a very large selection of instant noodles (even instant jok) and sauces (this is the only place I can find my favorite soy sauce brand)! The workers are nice and hospitable and the store is kept very clean, they accept EBT too. Recommend if anyone wants to cook Asian dishes or is missing Asian groceries! read more

There are some ingredients that are harder to find than others, this store carries fresh-frozen Pandan leaves (a necessary ingredient for some Sri Lankan cuisine). They carry some other goods of interest to Southeast Asian or Far East Asian cooks, and some harder to find instant and ready made food, high quality produce, fish and meat. The place is clean, brightly lit, much more spacious and comfortable than other Asian groceries. The employees are nice, helpful, and the parking is easy. read more

I also like that the have Chinese bakery items delivered in from Chicago. Much cleaner then other Asian grocers in the area. Also much friendlier staff then others too. The owner is usually there either checking people out or helping on the floor. They have an annual lion dance here for Chinese New Year this was our 3rd year going, our son loves it. A-Mart is a little different from most Asian grocery stores in Madison, as most of the staff is young--so you sometimes get a "Hello" when you enter the store. It's almost disconcerting to experience that compared to most Asian grocery stores! A-Mart focuses on food from a diverse number of East Asian countries. There's a little bit of Jamaican and Middle Eastern food, but the focus is on East Asian by far, and very few American products. They stock a limited amount of fresh bakery items from Chicago. Produce is inexpensive, but you have to inspect for freshness. No alcohol. Prices are comparable to similar stores in town. I wished I found this place sooner. I'm so glad I saw their posting on facebook, not sure how, but luckily so. I went the very same weekend I found out about their existence. I couldn't have been happier. The layout of the shop is very spacious, it's air-conditioned and very clean. You have ample space to walk around and do your shopping. They carry all the basic asian food stuff. They are priced very competitively with other asian marts, and have their own specialty to bring to the table. I found my favorite soy beancurd there. They call it sweet tofu. I simply love those and would never pass them up on every trip to chicago chinatown. This is the first time I've seen it being sold here in Madison *so exciting* I was also looking forward to the sashimi that they say they carry over the weekends, but have no luck as of now. Their bakery items are also a great find. They carry delicious awesomeness from chicago and other regions. For fans of Japanese kit-kats, they carry the macha kit kats and two other flavors directly from Japan! They also have a variety of snacks from the asian region as well. I would make it my regular go-to place for groceries. The fact that it's a stone's throw away from saigon noodles seals the deal. On weekends I could just go to saigon's for their spicy beef weekend special, and then make a stop to A-mart on the way home for some great groceries and tasty snacks. read more

A Mart Asian Grocery is awesome...it's my new favorite Asian market in Madison! It's hidden in the far corner of the complex that has Vintage Brewing in it and is located next to Sally Beauty Supply. Reasons everyone should come here: -super organized and clean -great prices -large variety of products -takes credit card (anything except AmEx) -friendly and helpful employees -itemized receipts so you know what you paid for The store just opened a month ago. The produce was a bit hit or miss, but I think that's mainly because the place opened recently and is tucked in an obscure corner so the produce turnover is probably low. I was able to find pretty much everything I expect at an Asian grocery store. A few things they did not carry the exact brand I typically buy, but they had several other options. This store closes at 9:00 PM, and at 8:45 PM today, I was craving lapchang. So I got there at 8:50, and I felt so terrible for coming in so close to closing time. But the employees were so nice, and one of them helped me out the whole time. He didn't make me feel bad at all, and I felt like I was very welcome. He told me to take my time and to ask him any questions, which I did. He showed me where to find vegetables and candy. Seriously, some of the best service I've ever received in a grocery store. Everything is clean and well stocked, and the vegetables were fresh and so cheap. In fact, everything is cheap. And the selection is wide and numerous. Warning: $5 minimum to use a card, but that's not as bad at all. I think I find my new asian Mart in Madison, and trust me, I've been looking. We noticed the new spot and finally made it in. Apparently it's owned by family members associated with Saigon Noodle. It's new, big and clean. It has all the basics: a reasonable looking meat and seafood counter; a vegetable section; some housewares and a small section of Mediterranean spices. Like everyone says, it's clean, it's got a great selection, the employee are nice, it's cheap. So I don't just go there for Asian stuff. I do as much supermarket shopping as I can there. I'm happy with the quality of the meat and produce. They have much of what I need. I can get some of th other stuff I need at big lots, Hyvee, or copps. They're all walking distance of a mart. Come here for some Asian ingredients you need! It's pretty much Midway but in a way cleaner and bigger place. I like it here. The aisles are bigger and really clean. The service is good too. I got to talk to the owner who apparently was an employee in Midway. I can see myself as a regular here. The BEST Indonesian noodle 'INDOMIE' is also sold here. I have no regrets! Aha! I love this place. It's not that big, but the selection is pretty good for it's size. I don't really shop for produce, so I can't comment on that, but the selection of everything else is quite good (noodles, dumplings, spices, sauces, etc). It's in a great location. Best of all, the three or four times I've gone the service was exceptional. Maybe better than exceptional. The staff would offer to help me without me asking. They would start a friendly conversation with you and even leave the register to help you. Speaking of the register, they're iPads! I thought that was pretty unexpected. I really hope they do well. I've had a blast every time I've gone and really hope to shop here on a regular basis in the future. I've been to Asian Midway, Oriental Shop, J&P, and Viet Hoa (been meaning to check out Yue Wah at some point) and this easily beats all of them in m opinion. read more

This is my favorite Asian store in madison. It has most of the things that I look for to cook my favorite south east asian cousine. Very clean and organized. Unlike other asian store, this one does not has any strong dry food smell. I would definitely recommend this one if you need to cook some authentic asian food. read more

I have been to Asian grocery stores all over the country. I practically grew up in them. A-Mart is the only store I have been to where the employees are not only NOT nasty, they are downright friendly. I thought it was a fluke the first time I went there...it wasn't. Every time I go, I am greeted with a smile and end up having a conversation with someone. Besides the nice people, A-Mart is clean, spacious, and priced fairly. It has a good selection of basic ingredients, including produce and meats, but just in case it doesn't carry what you need, Hyvee and Copps are right across the street. read more

Becareful with what you buy here. Too often their protein products are left too long on the shelf and has expired. Same goes with other merchandises. They don't do a good job at removing moldy items. We over looked the bakery and brought it home to find it moldy. Good news is they didn't make a stink with us returning it which many Asian stores do. This store in particular is more pricey than other Asian markets in the area. It is in a convenient location. I go here for last min runs. read more

By far, this is the best Asian market I've been to in the Madison area. The produce is cheaper than any chain grocery store, and the seafood is nice and fresh. They get their fresh items shipped in on Tuesdays and Saturdays (a kind worker told me - oh yeah, their super friendly!). You'll often see a basket of live soft shell crabs to grab (it's so funny to watch when they flip onto the floor and people have to catch them!). I'm also a dim sum fan, and they have a large selection of frozen items in the freezer. They make fresh bahn mi sandwiches for sale, as well. If you need to stock up on your Asian kitchen ware, they also have an aisle filled with an assortment of inexpensive items to choose from. read more
