And this was only the second winery that I had been to during the event. I usually try not to purchase too heavily at the beginning of a wine event because I tend to find great wines at the last wineries that I visit. But woo wee, I struck gold here and couldn't leave without some wine. Rivino is a family owned boutique winery that's nestled in the hillside of Ukiah. This is not typically where I go wine tasting, but this wonderful wine tasting event exposed me to what I've been missing on this side of town. Their grounds are extremely charming! Their estate overlooks their beautiful ranch and vineyards and also features an entertainment space where they throw events and have live music from time to time. Winemaker Jason McConnell was there at the event pouring wines and mingling with guests and staff. He is definitely a character and has so many entertaining stories. You can tell that he really enjoys producing his wine and he is super confident about it too. But he has a right to be because wow is that wine delicious! Not only did he pour us their special event wines, but he also hooked us up with tastes of several of his personal faves. He even asked me what my favorite wines were and had me taste a few wines that he knew would satisfy my palate. What's amazing is that they have great whites AND reds. Usually I've found that one is better than the other, but they are both superb here. Oh yeah, and they're Blanc de Blanc Sparkling is also delicious! Their white wines are top notch. I was extremely impressed with their Pinot Blanc, Estate Chardonnay, and Viognier. Pinot Blanc is usually hard for me to find unless i'm in or near this area (Mendocino/Anderson Valley), so I knew I was going home with a bottle of it right after the first sip. Their estate Chardonnay is so crisp, citrusy, and tropical. I had to have it. So amazing. And their reds! To die for. Loved their estate Sedulous Red Blend and their yummy Cab Franc, but ultimately fell in love with their bright and fruity Tiger Juice red blend. So joyfully fruity and jammy. It also came home with me. Yeah, their wines are definitely fine with me. The only reason why I'm rating 4 stars instead of 5 is because a few of the staff members had attitudes and some of the exchanges between these ladies and the winemaker were kind of weird and at times... uncomfortable. Not really sure what's going on there but take what you want from that information. But even with that, it didn't ruin the fun time that I had here. The wine is superb and I can see why they have so many great accolades in the area.

Testa was recommended to me by one of the wonderful servers at Patrona in Ukiah. She told me that I had to come here for a tasting before I left the area, and I did. And damn, am I happy that I did! This was my favorite tasting experience while out in the Ukiah area. What I loved about the tasting room here is that it's quaint, intimate, and super relaxing. No big crowds that you have to push through to make your way to the tasting room. It's quiet, peaceful, and the views are just astounding. And it's doesn't hurt that their estate is so damn adorable! The entire setup is truly darling! There's a beautiful covered deck with the most comfortable sofas! It reveals the most majestic views of their pond, garden, and vineyards. They have several shaded picnic tables and a rocking chair. You can walk around the premises and get lost in all of the beauty that surrounds it. I was literally falling asleep on the couch while I sat out on the deck and tasted. Yep, that's how comfortable I was! Their wines are very tasty as well! They make a variety of whites and reds and have won many awards for their delicious creations. They have their award-winning wines and ribbons posted on the wall of their indoor tasting area. A tasting consists of 5 of their wines. I'm not sure what the cost is for a tasting, but the tasting fee is waived with the purchase of a bottle and their prices are really reasonable. I really enjoyed their "Black" red blend the most and ended up purchasing a bottle to take home. A fun fact about this wine: it was created by their own members at a winemaker's party that they had at the winery. I couldn't believe that the members actually put together such a good blend, but it's amazing! You can fish in the pond for free if you're member! Another interesting fact is that they only use 10% of the wine that they produce. The other 90% is outsourced to other wineries! Now, that's how you KNOW that it's good! Saving the best for last of course. The main reason why I enjoyed tasting here so much was because of JENN!!! That lady is friggin' AMAZE BALLS, mmkay? So much personality and knowledge packed inside of that little body of hers! I honestly felt like I was hanging out with an old friend from high school. Her passion for wine is so undeniable. People like her are so rare to find these days. She is perfect at what she does and Testa is so lucky to have her there. I hope she stays at Testa for many years to come because I want her to be there when I come back again. Whew! I did it again! I done wrote up another novel, y'all! So much so, that I actually preferred their white wine selection over their reds. Yes, indeed! Philo Ridge Vineyards is a cozy tasting room located in downtown Booneville right off of Highway 128. They offer a variety of different wines including Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris, Viognier, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and so on. The tasting room itself is smaller than all of the other tasting rooms that I went to while wine tasting in Booneville. However, I could tell that this tasting room was extremely popular amongst the locals by how busy it was. Unfortunately, it can get a bit cramped and this is what happened when I arrived for my tasting. Nevertheless, the majority of the wines that I tasted were exceptional! Let me just say that Jill is an absolute Doll! Although she was basically swamped, she was able to assist us with a smile and poise. Her vivid descriptions and passion around the wines that she presented really shined through. I feel like it made me enjoy the wines even more. The cheese bread that they were serving didn't hurt either! I didn't get the name of the bread or even what cheese that it was made with, but it tasted yummy even while cold. Now to the best part... those wines! I tasted their 2014 Ferrington Vineyard Gewurztraminer, 2014 Nelson Vineyard Pinot Gris, 2014 Nelson Ranch Viognier, 2012 Marguerite Vineyard Pinot Noir, and their 2011 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. I'm a love of Pinot Noir and although I liked the Pinots here, I wouldn't exactly call them my favorites. As I previously mentioned, the standouts here were their lovely whites! The Pinot Gris was light and fruity with the most fragrant pear aroma. I also really enjoyed the Viognier which had a very enjoyable floral taste with delicious notes of peaches and apricots. However, the torch goes to that Gewurztraminer! YEEESSS! Gimme some more of that goodness, mmm! The tropical fruits and crispness could be tasted from start to finish. If you love wines that are light, crisp, and full of floral and tropical notes, then this wine is definitely for you! It's the perfect wine to sip on a warm summer day. All in all, I wouldn't mind coming back to Philo Ridge to do another tasting. However, I would try to go during their off-peak hours to get a more intimate experience.
