Great meat market. Always get our Christmas prime rib here. Ni e selection of groceries for a small store. Best thing is their deli sandwiches. So good! My favorite is the tuna on rye. Hubbys favorite is roast beef and liver wurst. Where else can you get good liver wurst I tell ya! ? Also small but decent selection of chilies and Mexican products. Oh. And you can get bait here too. Finally! After years of searching for a quality butcher in my hometown, friends of ours turned me on to the Forks Ranch Market. The meat selection is small, but the cuts top quality. The pricing is competitive and really not much more than any of the supermarkets around town. If you do happen to wander in, be warned that you should take a close look at the cuts being packaged. Last night (for example), I asked for two bone in rib eye steaks and when I got home, one of the cuts was seriously as big as an entire roast. Normally I wouldn't complain, but when trying to time cooking time this can make for some minor complications (as well as major leftovers). I'd also love to see some grass-fed options. But if you find yourself in the Ukiah/Redwood Valley area and are looking for mouth watering cuts of beef you will not have any problem finding suitable choice cuts here. read more

To other reviewers First I've never seen these people practice unsafe or unhygienic food prep practices they always scrub and wash up thoroughly, gloves are always changed out. Second is if your getting what you feel is attitude then it may simply be a reflection of what your putting out. I've never had issue with anyone in that store. Hey we all have off days too. I drive by this little locally-owned market on my vending route and one day I had to see why there were so many cars and trucks parked in front of it. Inside there's a real, old-fashioned meat counter but they'll also make you one heck of a sandwich. The sandwiches are the subject of this review. Go up to the meat counter and there are slips of paper where you can specify what you'd like on your sandwich. You can detail out the meal right down to the kind of mustard you want on it, and the cheese, bread and meat selection are all terrific. There are certain days where there are hot barbecued pork sandwiches but there's something for everyone. The ladies behind the counter are always very friendly and these are the kind of sandwiches where you have to almost unhinge your jaw to get a good bite, and your mouth will thank you for the effort. The sandwiches are really, really good. Being a market, you can select all sorts of things to go with your sandwich from chips, nuts raw potatoes, etc. etc. Okay, maybe hold off on the raw potatoes but the variety of drinks and side snacks is just what you'd expect in a market. I don't understand why there's a line at any chain sandwich shop within 10 miles of this place as the friendly, English-speaking folks behind the counter make a sandwich that two normal people could easily share and be very satisfied. Even my healthy appetite is challenged by these meals on bread, not like the breadwiches those lousy chains make. The meat here looks good and, again, it's a full little market so they have all sorts of things but the sandwiches are my favorite and make me happy that it's vending machine fillin' day. read more

The Forks Market is now my go-to place for ordering my prime rib! Having placed 3 orders with them now, I can say with certainty that the quality of the meat is fantastic. The majority of the staff is friendly, accommodating, and a pleasure to work with. The only time I've had an issue, was with a slightly mouth-breathing female behind the meat counter, who could barely be bothered to prepare a sandwich for me--when she mustered the energy to do it, she punctuated the interaction with basically dropping my sandwich on the counter, so she could go back to staring at the wall. Completely bizarre. Anyway, when ordering prime rib, feel free to ask them to season it, they do a really nice job. I have it on good authority that their bacon laced hamburger is to die for--that's next on my list! read more

Have loved this meat market since the Hoover's took over. Randy and Nancy and their crew are always so friendly and helpful. We order our Christmas dinner meat from here every year. First thing I noticed was the awful smell, but considering it's a butcher shop I gave that a pass. The second thing was the fact that the front door was wide open with no screen, and as a result there were flies hovering all around the uncovered and raw meat. I watched some out-of-towners ask if this was the best sandwich place in town, to which the lady replied "yes." After taking a breather outside and regaining my appetite, I decided to give the place a chance. I ordered a vegetarian sandwich, which seemed to distress the lady preparing it. "Do you want, like, all the vegetables?" she asked me. I said "no onions, pickles, or sprouts", to which she indignantly responded "we don't DO sprouts." I got the impression that myself and the group of people I came in with were immediately sized up as liberal city folk of some kind, and subsequently treated very poorly. Once I received my sandwich, I was still willing to give the "best in town" a try. Unfortunately, I could only eat the first half of my sandwich, as I kept finding little grey hairs throughout the bun. Like, at least 4 or 5 little doggish hairs, which is disgusting. I work just up the road from the Forks Ranch Market, so I have about 1-2 deli sandwiches a month. Great sandwiches at a reasonable price made by a quick and friendly staff. I occasionally buy steaks and tri-tip from the meat counter and have never been disappointed. We had a company lunch today and we grilled two of their seasoned tri-tips and they were awesome! Nice deli, but beware when shopping for groceries. I stopped by tonight to buy hamburger buns. The clerk was just pricing them & putting them on the shelf when I walked up. As I was checking out, I noticed the buns in the bag felt hard. I asked the clerk if they had been frozen. He told me they had. While I thought that was a bit odd & that they really shouldn't be charging full price since they weren't fresh, I was in a rush to get dinner on the table so went ahead & bought them. After getting home, I saw the expiration date on the bag - May 2014! Buyers beware: groceries in this store may not be what they seem. read more
