There are two simple reasons: 1) Scheduler doesn't allocate enough slots for current patients who have pressing medical needs 2) Dr has limited schedule and only works 30hrs a week. To compare, my kid's pediatrician has always accommodated same day appointments. I've asked him how he's able to do this and it's quite simple. Scheduling and the amount of hours he puts in. The staff here is good at telling people to call their Urgent Care. That's where the money maker is. These doctors don't have to work 40 hours or more or have a quota of patients to see a week. They get paid regardless. There's no reason for them to work longer days and accommodate their current patients. Saving the best for last. Was suffering from major pains and asked Dr for recommendation. Staff called back and said Dr isn't able to provide any because she hasn't seen me in almost 4 years. I laughed so hard. The first time I experienced this was right after the car accident. Now I am absorbing the cost of medical mistakes once again. So far it has cost me $3000 in lost wages and likely $8000 in medical cost. It will likely cost me several more thousands in lost wages. A simple 3 minutes assessment and some imaging would have prevent this. I just paid off another medical error that cost me $5000, that could have been prevented by a doctor at her practice. Her response-pay payments-knowing full well that I have previously experienced additional financial loss due to medical errors. It took me 6 years to go back to the doctor after the first experience, only to experience more preventable errors from her and her office. This, after another experience event under her care in which my records are false causing more harm- emotionally, physically, and financially. Correct medical records could have help me recover emotionally, physically, and financially from previous medical errors. She said she wanted to advocate for me and help. The next breath she threw me under the bus. She was angry how I was treated by previous providers, then turns around and does the same thing, but worse. I arrived for a 2:30 pm appointment with an order for 2 liters of IV fluids. I then waited around…read morean hour to an hour and a half before being seen. When the infusion finally started, I was told that I would receive only one of the two prescribed liters. That was significant because the full amount was part of my treatment plan. I was told they needed me out by their 4:30 pm closing time. This was concerning because I had arrived on time and had already waited. Had my treatment begun closer to my appointment time, there would have been more time to administer the full two liters that my physician had prescribed. In effect, the delay in seeing me became the reason given for cutting my prescribed treatment in half. When I asked to speak with the physician about the change, I was told the physician was unwilling to speak with me. The one liter I did receive was administered so quickly that I was physically shaking from the cold and discomfort. I then left, still feeling unwell, having received only half of the prescribed treatment. Before I left, a scheduler approached me and strongly pressured me to schedule another appointment for the next day, saying that if I didn't book immediately, another spot might not be available for some time. Feeling sick, pressured, and without having had my questions answered, I chose to go home. What concerns me most is the level of indifference I experienced. Providing only half of a prescribed treatment because of a closing time, after the facility's own delay left insufficient time to complete it, was concerning enough. Refusing even a basic conversation about that change made the experience more troubling. Medically vulnerable patients who come to facilities such as this deserve compassion, clear communication, and physicians who recognize the vulnerability of the people entrusted to their care.
