Okay. Tiger Sugar was the hype a few years back on both coasts and people would rave about how delicious the boba was. I've heard about how sweet and tasty brown sugar boba is and have always been curious about why it's so good. As always, Michigan is pretty late to the game. But it's better late than never, am I right?? Today was the day for me to finally try it. I got the #4 (best seller, apparently) which is the "Black Sugar Boba + Pearl Coffee Latte with Cream Mousse". Sadly, I could not adjust the sugar level for this drink, so I had to prepare myself for the amount of sugar I was about to inhale. I'm a 0% or 30% sugar kind of person, and I expected the sweetness to punch me square in the face. Boba came out like the "tiger stripes" as promised, and I gave it about 15 shakes or so to mix everything up well. Fortunately, it was not like that at all. I would say the sweetness is about 50-75% at a generic boba shop. It was a too sweet for me, but then again, I have low tolerance. I liked the brown sugar sweetness and the chewiness of the boba (which is also sweetened). Also, great coffee taste! It really came through nicely. I can see why people went nuts over tiger sugar boba but can't say I'm a huge fan myself. I could barely taste the tea in my drink (mainly just sweet milk with some coffee) and didn't like that the pearls were different sizes, which threw me off a bit. Overall, I'm glad I finally got to try tiger sugar boba and would recommend people to give it a shot if they haven't had it before! read more

Thanks to Yelp for hosting an event for 1 free drink for "Celebrating The Year of The Tiger". This place definitely gives me that Cali vibe that you get when you walk into a boba shop. It's clean and the menu has a few options but not as much as I'd see at other places. I hope they can add more drinks onto the menu in the future. It's in the same business plaza as Target in Madison Heights. I love where the boba shop is because it's next to many businesses that people frequent. Customer service is good and the staff were friendly. Boba in my opinion was OK. It didn't taste bad but it wasn't something I prefer. I think they may have other better options from the ones I picked but I got #4 (a coffee drink) & #6 (with cheese mousse), #6 was definitely something different I've ever had with boba but I manage to finish it anyway. Great bubble tea shop! I've come here a couple times and the drinks are so so tasty. I would say to halve the sugar though, the standard sugar is too sweet for me. I love the fresh taro and I always make sure to order it since I don't usually find it at other boba places. Service was quick and I appreciate the ability to order with the tablet or at the register. The decor is cool and it's nice to sit and chat, but it's also right near a Target so you can grab your boba and then hit Target which is what I usually do haha! read more

This location is conveniently located in a shopping center. There is a lot of available parking. We went on a Saturday around 5:00pm and the store was not too busy. There were a few people ordering in front of us, but it didn't take too long until it was our turn to order. Since I'm pregnant, I opted in for their classic brown sugar boba milk and my husband tried their chocolate malt milk. The inside of the store is very cute with Hello Kitty décor for the summer collab and their classic black and orange color scheme. Very Instagram worthy to take cute pictures. There is not a lot of seating inside, but they have a few tables and couches set up. Their menu is simple, but I think it works for what they do. We go for our drinks and their suggestion is to shake the cup 15 times before you stick the straw in, so everything is well blended. Overall, it was good, but I had better. Maybe because I didn't get milk tea mine was not as flavorful. My husband also said his drink was just okay. We were a little disappointed, but it did itch the craving. We've driven by this place a few times, finally got a chance to stop in. Love the color theme inside. I tried the pearl and Boba coffee latte with oat milk, it was OK. I asked for very little pearls and Boba, and it was far too loaded. I only like a little bit and not have to chew my entire drink. The coffee and chocolate did not mix well with the oat milk so I had to keep stirring it make it work. I would come back, but will try a fruity drink next time instead. read more

I'm a chocolate-girl, so I went with the Black Sugar Boba + Pearl + Chocolate Malt Milk w Cream Mousse (#3), and was not disappointed! The drink was like a delicious and creamy chocolate milk with the boba pearls sunk at the bottom, and slurped up with the giant straw at intervals. It was a fun sampling of another cultures popular drink! Bubble tea is from Taiwan; boba pearls are usually made w a tapioca starch. The boba I tried today didn't have a particularly strong flavor, it had the consistency of almost a really firm gelatin or a very chewy gummy. Tiger Sugar is so good!! I'm from SD and was so excited when I saw a TG location in Detroit, I got it every day while I was there on a family trip I tried their famous Brown Sugar drink and it definitely lived up to the hype, although I recommend getting less sugar for sure! The mango sago was also sooo good we ordered 6 of it. There was so much to chew on, I loved the texture of all the different toppings. I will say though that I didn't expect a smoothie-like consistency for the drink itself, but it was still very delicious! We also tried the strawberry yogurt drink and it wasn't one of my top favorites (but that's only because I hate strawberries), otherwise it is suchhh a delicious and refreshing drink with the perfect amount of creaminess. Where the staff almost seems impatient but they aren't; your just asked 25 different questions because the options are odd. I will continue to go here BUT the last two times my tea has been sort of warm. That's been annoying. Also!!! The last time I was was there... it was myself and another human but the staff called my "number" and I didn't grab a receipt so I didn't know what my number was LOL Anyways staff is young and helpful. Stopped by for some boba after lunch. We are from California and I have actually not tried the Tiger Sugar in California so I was excited to see that there was one in Detroit. We have not found a good boba place yet so we were excited to try. I ordered the brown sugar boba milk and my girlfriend tried the new Tiger Mango Sago. Both drinks were really good. The mango drink was reminiscent of the desserts from Hui Lau Shan if you are familiar with that mango dessert restaurant. The boba was delicious. Tiger Sugar is one of the best boba shops in the world. Originating directly from the the land of boba, Taiwan, you know it already comes with a default level of expertise as such. I was so excited to see that they had finally opened up a location in Michigan, and it such a great spot as well - in the same plaza as the best Asian grocery store in SE Michigan! Do yourself a favor and visit Tiger Sugar. They are basically the inventors of black sugar boba and their recipe is consistent across all shops I've tried around the world. It's so good, it'll ruin your taste for black sugar boba anywhere else! What sets Tiger Sugar apart from all the "trendy" spots right now too in particular is that you can't "edit" your ice/sugar levels. Tiger Sugar knows they have perfected their drinks to the perfect balance/proportions of toppings, liquid, sugar levels, etc. and I think that's the mark of a great shop. That you *don't* feel the need to change the levels and it's a mark of old school boba shops when you just couldn't do so and enjoyed the drink immensely anyways. Their service was SO fast as well. You can order at the kiosk, which makes things super easy. The only changes you can make to the drink are what kind of milk you want (dairy, soy, or lactose-free), which is definitely appreciated. Additionally, when I received my drinks, I could feel through the cup that the boba balls at the bottom was still WARM. We love freshly made boba yummmm! Also, EXCITING NEWS: Tiger Sugar offers paper boba straws and paper boba straws ONLY! It's been a journey to find a good reusable boba straw (none of them come with a sharp edge, which means you can never use them to puncture the lid), so I'm glad that at least we get paper-based, environmentally-friendly straws with the SHARP POINT at Tiger Sugar so I don't feel as bad about the sheer volume of boba drinks I consume. Because it's paper, you'll definitely need to drink your drink a bit faster because the paper straw is going to soften in time. These paper straws have a much better structural integrity than the standard straw size kind of paper straws though, so it'll definitely last longer than you might think. And if we're completely honest, the drinks are so good, it'll be gone before your paper straw even begins to soften ANYWAYS! :) Lastly, It is IMPORTANT that you shake the drinks THOROUGHLY to mix everything up before you puncture the lid to stick your straw in and make it more difficult on you to mix. Once everything is blended together, I hope you enjoy the drink as much as I do! We tried 5 drinks in total but only two that we would reorder. The number 4 has espresso shots and it's unreal! The one problem with all of their boba based drinks are the two different sized pearls- one is a little larger than the size of a tapioca pearl you'd get in the pudding and the other is the classic bubble you'd get in a standard drink. The only reason why I think that this is problematic is because your mouth is ready to except one size pearl and then it is met with two or three of the smaller sized ones which can be a choking hazard due to the different sizes and travel velocities through the straw- LOL! I had a super salty almost clotted chunk in the T1 but the flavor of the oolong was great. Would not recommend anything with the cheese mousse it was really unpleasant to me- which is shocking seeing as it's cream cheese based. The matcha was more for my friend as I'm never a big fan of it however when I tried it I had a huge clump of the powder in my sip. The #5 was actually delicious but the pudding came in two huge hunks that was really hard to break down but If you like flan you'd love it! The base of this drink was much creamier than any of the rest. Overall, give this place a shot but just do yourself a favor and order the #4! read more

I chose #4 BS boba + pearl coffee lattefor my complimentary drink and then added the T9 vanilla black tea latte with mochi boba. 4 was really good, shook it up real nice as they showed me. The paper straw was not ideal but thankfully they had given me that metal beast which did the job. It was flavorful and kinda predictable but I would get it again. Let's talk about the T9 though.. holy crap. That was epic! It was wonderfully sweet and velvety. It tasted amazing. To the point that my daughter said it smelled good and asked for a sip. This never happens because she drinks chocolate milk and or water and that's about the extent of her experimentation with liquids. She tasted it, her eyes lit up and she asked me to save as much as possible for her. We shared the rest of the drink over the next few minutes and decided this was by far one of the best things we've had. We shall be back! read more

Ever since hearing about this place opening up in Madison Heights, I have been constantly checking on and off to see if it finally opened. When it did I was there at opening weekend excited to try the boba drinks I last had when I was in the Rosemead location in Southern California almost exactly a year prior. I was a pretty big fan of the place as I really did like the flavors that they brought to their drinks. I brought some friends with me as it was their first time trying this place. I got the classic #1 and it was quite delicious. It was not too busy either which was a blessing because other locations have known to be a pretty long wait. It was a pretty good experience overall. I will note to the incoming consumers that it does feel to be a little more on the pricey side for boba especially considering ice makes up a lot of the drink. Our new favorite bubble tea joint. Apparently, they call it Tiger Sugar because of the stripes the brown sugar makes on the inside of the cup when the tea is served. Their signature milk tea is not too sweet and has a pronounced and natural herbal flavor, as opposed to the artificial flavors you can get at some places. They use an unsweetened whipped cream, so you get the creamy flavor without the massive sugar rush. Also they give you two sizes of tapioca pearls, which adds to the drinking experience. I recommend adding the tiger jelly (little cubes of tea jelly) to up the flavor and textural experience. Sorry for being a bit pretentious on this one, but when you talk about a place that basically serves one thing, it helps explain the preference. Anyhow, definitely worth a stop if you like bubble tea. read more

Very good and very interesting place. I had heard of Tiger Sugar but did not know where it was until I went shopping at 168 Mart and realized it was just outside the strip mall. We got four drinks to try, their traditional brown sugar, their chocolate, a coffee latte, and the strawberry mochi. The ones I tasted were great, very easy to slurp down very quickly. The strawberry mochi was very unique with so much flavor and add-ins. The coffee was actually one of the best I have had at a bubble tea place, very nice and strong. I got the chocolate drink. I really enjoyed the smaller tapioca, it was like a chocolate milk pudding, and really added flavor and texture to the larger boba. My child who got the brown sugar drink originally wanted a milk tea, that is her favorite, but the traditional is just milk without the tea. She would like to return and try the one with the tea next time. The waffles looked good, but it did look like they did not have all of them and some of the snacks were sold out.
