I really wanted to like my experience at TIGI, the student who worked on my hair was so sweet and understanding. However my cut ended up extremely choppy, unblended, and had gaps that were especially noticeable when I wore my hair naturally. The right techniques had not been used and I would have preferred if the student had asked for help if they were stuck on what to do. I now have to go in every month or so to get my hair trimmed to prevent breakage and had to have multiple stylists assess my hair to see how it could be fixed. I also asked for a balayage, not a highlight, I was not looking for anything streaky. I checked with the student prior to see if that would be achievable. Unfortunately the result was much more uneven, patchy, and streaky than I was hoping for. The color also seemed to be lifted far beyond what was necessary to for the look I wanted. I came in with dulled dark brown box dye and hoping to add some brunette dimension not blonde. I didnt expect perfection, just a blended result but my hair needed to be retoned and was streaky and patchy in certain areas. My ends are damaged and overprocessed, and there are a few chunks of straight blonde. My hair was also extremely roughly from roots to ends which led to my head being tugged and a sore scalp. My biggest issue was with the instructor who I felt dismissed my concerns and said the color looked just like my inspiration photos. Although my base color was not exactly the same as the photos, I clearly stated I did NOT want to be blonde and my hair was nowhere near the intended shade. This review isn't about blaming the student, who was extremely kind, did her best, and was so understanding. The students here just need better and closer supervision and instructors who are more open to client concerns to prevent results like this. read more

I went to Toni&Guy several times in the past and had good experiences*, so I went back. This was after getting my two Coronavirus shots. I hadn't had my hair cut or colored in over a year, but I wanted what I had done before. It was the worst experience I ever had!!!! I showed photos of myself, asking for the pictured hair style and coloring I wanted. Even though an instructor supervised the procedure, everything was wrong. For one thing, I asked for a shoulder-length cut. My hair, which had grown practically down to my waist, was cut much too short. It was also terribly uneven. Secondly, the color was terrible. I asked for light brown with blond highlights. It came out very dark brown, and no highlights were apparent. It was really a mess! I went to another hairdresser and she corrected the mistakes. What a terrible experience I had here. I mentioned that I bought a groupon and they booted me out because they over booked and were totally non compliant to work with my schedule (being an educator on spring break) What a waste of my time. They had 22 people booked for 1pm and I was the only one asked to leave due to coloring, and over booking. Also apparently they don't do highlights after 1PM. Just another fun FYI. It's a risk to go to a hairdressing academy, so know what you are getting into.... but with a $29 foil & cut groupon, why not... The initial walk in was chaotic. Instructors and students were running around, yelling, walking back and forth and just looked manic. After waiting 25 minutes, a student wandered in "from lunch" and I was finally in the chair. What I didn't like was the fact that before the appointment students were not already assigned; that seems like an odd way to run a school. The facility is pretty high use and beaten up - not exactly a clean bathroom. My student was a "senior" (of a 10 month program) who had done "a few blonde highlights." The instructor (Dan I believe) was watching closely on the color mix and once it was on, and suggesting fixes and appropriate processing times, etc. He assigned another junior student with seemingly nothing to do to help with foiling and that caused more problems than allowing the senior student to just do her thing. Regardless, he checked in often and made sure that the overly brassy tone had appropriate toner put on, etc. Without his vigilance, I do believe I would not be rating this experience a "3"! Unfortunately, his backup instructor was the only one around during the cut.... The other instructor, I didn't catch his name (a younger guy who seemed completely flippant on all instructions and reviews) was checking in through the color, and said more than once "oh purple shampoo." (!!!) That same instructor then inspected the cut, and he actually MESSED UP the cut that was very conservatively done by the student by my direction. It's not terrible, but if he had not touched it it would have been better. No one was watching or checking in on the student DURING the cut, only after it was "done." The younger instructor quite clearly could have cared less about the whole process. Outcome: My hair is much blonder than I would like (looks more like an all over hair color than highlights) but it isn't terrible. The cut has some mistakes, but they aren't obvious when it is done. Overall the process took 3 hours from in chair to finished, so 3.25. The other observation: while I was waiting for my color to process, a group of "freshman" were sitting in the next row having VERY unprofessional conversations with a "senior" student - loudly. It was inappropriate when a client was in a chair. The school probably should consider teaching these students professional behavior in front of customers. Saving $200 once in a while is great by me....but I don't like to wait that long after making an appointment I don't appreciate that the cut wasn't supervised, nor that the secondary instructor seemed to think that wrong color can all be resolved through "purple shampoo." Without Dan, I think it would have been a complete disaster, so I think I got lucky. read more

BEWARE!! I just got off the phone after trying to make an appointment for a full highlight and haircut after purchasing a Groupon for the same about a week ago. I was once, many moons ago (at least 8 years or more), a customer of Ricky's salon for a brief period of time; they've since been bought out by Toni & Guy apparently. Per the fine print on the Groupon: "New clients only. May be repurchased every 180 days. Not valid for clients active within the past 6 month(s). Additional fees may apply depending on hair length, texture, and density. Appointment required. Merchant's standard cancellation policy applies (any fees not to exceed Groupon price). Limit 1 per person, may buy 1 additional as gift. Limit 1 per visit. Valid only for option purchased. All goods or services must be used by the same person. All services performed by students under supervision." I called the salon and was put on hold for 10 minutes the first time, and then had to hang up and call again. When I finally got a person on the phone and attempted to make my appt, I was told that since I'd been a customer in the past (when it was a different owner and over 8 years ago), they are unwilling to honor the Groupon despite the fact that the fine print on it days you can REPURCHASE every 180 days!! I reminded her of this and was given some lame excuse about how that was a mistake, and they're trying to fix it on Groupon. What a CROCK!!! Good customer service should dictate that until YOUR mistake is fixed you should do something to honor the error YOU made!! Even if it means providing the service at a discount to make up for the inconvenience you put "potential returning" customers through!!! I haven't allowed anyone besides my mother, who is an ex-hairdresser, to do my hair in over 6 years now; I finally decide to try something new, and this was my experience. I will NEVER, EVER use Toni & Guy based on this experience. I'd give them 0 stars, but that's not an option. (FYI, Groupon gave me a full and immediate refund for the salon's stupidity). read more

I am so surprised about the other reviews. I have been getting my hair done here for almost 2 years, and each time I go away feeling like I just won the lottery. The service is impeccable. There is always a senior staff member on hand who are completely involved in the process. The caliber of students is really astounding. I have gotten my hair done at all price points at other salons and this is really my favorite place. I won't even get into the price.... Every time I go to pay I can not believe how little it is. I have since had my older daughter here and even my 2 smaller kids and I love the place. It's a bit of drive for me but completely worth it! read more

The students are friendly and the place looks nice but that's all I can say for this place. It's a school and not once was I supervised with the cut and highlight job I got. The young lady did not seem to be all there. I drive home to discover serious bleeds all over the top and sides of my head. They didn't even want to address the issue. Upon going back I was greeted by one of the owners who was very cold. He told a student what to do and she did not fully listen. She did however confirm that the first girl was a complete airhead and that's why my hair came out bad. What the heck is that? And Again no one checked my hair!!! You'd think the owner would have. What kind of school is this? I had to repay another place to have it corrected and of course there is no way to completely correct it. And the money wasn't the problem so much as all the time wasted on this. Three salon trips! Unacceptable! Thanks guys. read more

I bought the groupon for $29 - full foil and haircut. I had a great experience. Abby was my hairdresser and she did an amazing job. The instructor was always around available to questions and feedback. The entire process did take 3 hours, but that's what I had expected.
