Tijuana Flats is a solid stop for lunch or dinner. We'll often for for taco Tuesday or Burrito Thursday to take advantage of the special. Sam and I wanted something quick and easy from our current at home regime and tjs sounded like it's hit the spot. I tried something new with the chicken Tonga burrito. I wasn't overly impressed and would rather have a blackened chicken burrito or beef. I always tip my food with several of the great hot sauce selections available. Dined 12/8/2020 for the weekly Taco Tuesday, a meal for the Dos Tacos price. Everything was fine, except I asked for no dairy, still got cheese. It was my lunch break and didn't have time to have them remake, so I didn't ask. It may have been an app issue again, as I changed my drink order midway & maybe some of the defaults reset, although if that happened, I probably should have got sour cream as well. IDK, it's confusing. I may have to just go back to face-to-face ordering. Dined 12/7/2020. This has been a go-to for a good, quick meal for some time, and I have high expectations of satisfaction when I order from TF. I've been a TF fan since the early 2000s, primarily while studying at USF-Tampa & enjoying the University Plaza location. This visit, I ordered a Chicken Tinga chimichanga. "Tinga" is shredded chicken with chipoltle & other flavors, a popular Pueblan stew. I had all the dairy off of this order. TF's tinga is chicken with, TF's red chipoltle sauce; it has a good flavor with a hint of smokiness, but not as strong as a chipoltle from a can or bottle; it is spicier than chile colorado (enchilada sauce). The chimi was not really picture-perfect, tightly rolled, fried & holding shape; rather, it seemed kind of flat. I'm not 100% sure it was fried. The menu does say "flash fried" so, maybe that's it. It tasted fine, but no crunch. For the filling, onions, jalapeno, tomato & cilantro would improve the chimi. Flash frying seemed to have so little effect on the tortilla, I can't imagine it would cause issues with anything added into the tortilla. The side chips were in the styro container with the chimi. In the three minutes walk back to my place of work, the chips became soggy. The chips should be bagged separately. When I glanced at my order, there was a bag, but not with the chips inside as expected. Everything else I order there seems to come with the separate bag of chips. The chips are normally very good, fresh-tasting and enjoyable. I ordered spicy salsa; it was fine, but not that spicy. The order came with a cup of shredded lettuce, two jalapeno slices, and about two tablespoons of chopped tomato. This was not on the menu description, but not unwelcome. I just had to ponder what to do with them. I ended up dumping these on top of the chimi & soggy chips, and the crunch of the lettuce hid the soggy chips somewhat, although the tortilla flavor came through nicely. From the hot sauce bar, I tried the "Ogre" sauce. I was a little concerned because I don't like ketchup much & it's the lead ingredient. After trying it, I think it's quite good. There's a little tomato flavor, and a hint of sweetness, but it's a nicely balanced, spicy, hot sauce. I probably wouldn't order anything "tinga" again, on balance. A regular chimi is $1.60 less, and if you actually wanted the red sauce on top (or green, or queso dip, for that matter), you'd still be $.31 better off with much the same flavor and more choice on fillings. Glancing at taco & burrito versions, I think the same with the regular vs. tinga, because tinga is always a premium. The app needs a little work. If you change your mind on a specific item for your order, it's too easy to get backed out to the start page instead of having breadcrumbs to back up a step at a time. read more

Always efficient curbside service. Never once had a mistake or questionable meal. Their veggie burritos are always massive. Well priced and delicious. I recommend using their rewards program, Seems like I always have a free entree or appetizer to redeem. They have wings now too, while I'll say $10 is a bit rich for 6 wings... this is where the free entree comes in handy. Also, the wings are legit. I got them with habanero agave sauce. They weren't as spicy as I'd hoped but had a bit of a kick...nothing a bit of mofo insane (be careful, it's hot) sauce can't fix. read more

Are you kidding me? I order the same thing I've gotten from Tijuana Flats for years: dos enchiladas with ground beef, red sauce, all the way. Guy gives me deer in the headlights look 'cause, according to him, he's never heard of red sauce. Check receipt after ordering and turns out he put down flautas. First, how in the world do you get flautas from enchiladas? Second, turns out they're no longer serving enchiladas! What kind of Mexican place doesn't have enchiladas? Plus, when he was giving me the confused look about the red sauce, I specifically asked if the menu had changed! Ridiculous that he didn't tell me they no longer have enchiladas. Been a few times and enjoyed. Its like other tex mex type places but here you can enjoy a beer as well. So this place has a slight edge in my opinion. The salsa bar us another advantage. The salsa bar here has far more choices ranging from mild to scorpion peppers. Another thing i found nice is the manager came out to tables and made sure guests were happy with food and experience. Ok, for a quick lunch, if you have to. We stopped in looking to get some Mexican food for lunch one day. Being our first time here, we weren't sure if we sat ourselves, ordered first, or how it worked. We looked around for a few minutes and then found a few menus by where the line would be (if there was one). Another customer entered the store and a worker walked up to him and explained the menu and entire process, but we couldn't really hear him. I walked back over to speak to the worker when he was finished talking to the other customer, but he turned away from me and walked to the kitchen instead. Not a good start. We then entered the line and ordered without any real time to look over the menu or knowing what the deal was. I wanted to try a few items so I chose the "Pick Dos" menu item with a chimichanga and enchilada. We took our seats outside and the food was delivered shortly. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. The both items seemed bland, and if not for the queso on the chimichanga, they both would have been very dry as well. With all the other Mexican restaurants around, I wouldn't go back. The price was the same as a sit-down restaurant with a server, except we did the work, and the food wasn't as good. Next time I'd go to more authentic Mexican restaurant instead. read more

First time here, had the burrito(wet). Taste was great, only problem was that the fillings were separated just a little too much. Once burrito was cut open and mixed, everything was at better ratios. Nice quaint place with very colourful decor, tables are spaced far enough apart that you don't feel like your on top of the person next to you. It's easy to figure out where to start the line as there is a very large painted mural of a person pointing out the menus are in their pocket. The front of house staff taking the orders was very friendly and respectful, had a genuine smile as she greeted each person. While waiting for our food to come to the table we were able to browse the sauce bar and get sauces, in a just the right size cups to sample multiple flavours. My favourite was the Rasta sauce. The food was typical "quick" style food you'd get at a fast food chain which isn't really my thing. But I will state the restaurant was quiet despite there were people constantly in motion, customers chatting at tables, in line, staff bring out food and calling customers names to bring them their food. Right as we were about to finish our meal and leave the sky opened up and a torrential downpour ensued. Many customers had finished their meals but sat waiting for the rain to let up enough to not be thoroughly soaked before you could get to your car. The reason I gave this location 5 stars despite mediocre food: Although all of the staff were friendly, helpful and genuinely seemed to enjoy their jobs, one particular person went "Above and beyond" to provide exceptional customer service. A young man who had for the most part blended in with other staff behind the counter and running food. As the rain started to have small windows of lighter rain, it was still heavy but not the cascading waterfall it had been for the last 30 minutes. This young man saw customers trying to gather their families and make a run through the plaza parking lot to their cars and quickly grabbed an umbrella and went to sides, using his umbrella escorted moms and dads to their vehicles, extending the umbrella and covering the parent and interior of the vehicle while parents struggled to strap little ones into car seats, while he stood in the rain. He also went to each customer on the sidewalk greeted them with a smile and asked if he could please help them to their vehicles. Even those who tried to decline to save him from getting further drenched found themselves sheltered by his umbrella when he saw them trying to strap babies in. I knew I'd be writing a review and quickly turned off my phones flash and discreetly snapped a pic of this young man being a hero to the customers of this business. I certainly hope that his managers and the owner of this restaurant will recognise & reward this young man for going WAY beyond his job requirements to help others. I stayed on the sidewalk until he returned again and shook had hand and said thank you for helping so many people tonight and asked his name. He stated it is Carlos. So in case their is more than one staff member with that name, this occurred on today's date 9/27/18 and he was wearing a pink sleeve on his left arm. I used to go regularly to "Taco Tuesday" at Tijuana Flats, but due to reasons beyond my control have not been in a while. Today, I passed up Taco Bell to enjoy a Tijuana Flats Tuesday. To my surprise things have changed a little. Price: went up to $5.99. Food: Taco Shells have been changed to some sort of "airy" shell that feels delicate and breaks like a egg shell when biting into it. I thought maybe I had a bad batch, but the other was just the same. I imagine the people who have been going there recently have not noticed the difference, or maybe they enjoy the changes. I personally liked the old way better and will probably not have to many "Taco Tuesdays" at T.F. With that being said, I love, love The "Sally" Habanero taco sauce. So I will be back to buy the sauce for my tacos at home. read more

We eat here fairly often - at least once a month. Food is ok and usually quite fast. Had a take out order on Sunday 4/7/24 because we had an activity to go to and needed a quick meal before heading out. When I ordered it said it would be ready in 12 minutes so we chose to go this route vs picking up other fast food. I arrived a minute or so after our stated time and it took them over 20 minutes to actually get me my food! This was for 4 tacos, a quesadilla, and some churros. Seriously, I could have made tacos at home from scratch in half the time for a fraction of the cost. People who ordered in the store after I got there got their food first and while there were people there, it wasn't super busy. They had a few staff taking out food or just standing around, if the kitchen is short staffed perhaps they could teach all their staff to make the food. Took the food home and we had to scarf it down to make it to our activity. Will probably go less often now or very rarely - with the current economy budgeting is important, the prices aren't cheap and when you add poor / slow service to the mix there's better ways to spend our money. read more

This location was the best Tijuana experience we have ever had. We have eaten at many Tijuanas around the state and the staff here was amazing. My son bonded with the manager and he made sure our time in the restaurant was fun and memorable. Tijuana always has great food but getting to actually make a memory while grabbing a quick dinner was a welcomed surprise. I have enjoyed coming here a few times in the past for Taco Tuesday's. The food is a very Americanized version of Mexican food, but here in Florida people think Taco Bell is authentic! So the tacos are always tasty and fresh. Anyhow, they do the peculiar thing of bringing you salsa chips on your plate with no salsa. No other Mexican restaurant I have ever been to does that. But on my previous visits it was never an issue. I just asked the server for some salsa and they always happily brought me some. But on this evening an older server (perhaps a manager) I had never seen before told me she would have to up-charge me for salsa! After I told her no one else had ever tried to up charge me for salsa before, she agreed to bring me a small sauce container of it for free like she was doing me a big favor and said next time I would have to pay extra for it. Well thanks to her customer friendly attitude there probably won't be a next time. Petty things like this are what drive customers away! I suggest she stay in the back from now on where her winning attitude and superlative customer service skills can be of most benefit to the restaurant's future success. read more

This Tijuana Flats disappointed me a bit with the size of the tacos, but the service was excellent as always. Vibrant and energetic environment with music and tv's playing. I had the Taco Tuesday special that included 2 beef tacos, chips, and a drink for $5.99 and my wife had her usual black bean quesadilla. They really watched how much meat went into the taco shell with the top half of the taco being empty. They attempted to fill the taco with 2 inches of cheese to make up for the lack of beef, but I could clearly see it. Tasted like a larger version of a Taco Bell taco. May have just caught them on a bad day. The tacos typically have a good portion of meat in them, but was disappointed this go around. Once again, service was awesome. read more

As America becomes more aware of the many culinary traditions that fall under the banner of "Mexican" cuisine, and we become less insular in our dining tastes, I worry sometimes that the cuisine that paved the way for this explosion of gastric diplomacy, the oft-maligned "Tex-Mex," is becoming less accessible to diners outside of the American southwest. Places like Tijuana Flats help keep this decidedly fusion tradition alive, and as fond as I am of the Guadalajaran, Oaxacan, Chihuahuan, Sonoran, Baja and Riviera Maya culinary traditions I've encountered in the many years I've spent accumulating inches on the waistline, I'm happy to see places like Tijuana Flats surviving. The menu boasts all the usual variety you'd expect, steak and chicken (the latter also in a "blackened" option), served in burritos of multiple sizes (regular or "chimichanga" fried), tostadas, quesadillas, flautas, tacos, and enchiladas. Vegetarian options exist, but I've never tried 'em. The three key burrito sizes (regular, Tijuana and Megajuana) carry the load spectrum admirably from "sane" to "glutton," and your meal with come with chips, unless you ask for them "Cadillac," which adds rice and beans for a few extra bucks. Orders are placed at the counter, but brought tableside. Drinks are refilled by roving waitfolks; be sure to leave a tip. Tables are catch-as-catch-can and during busy times, you might have to send a member of your party to grab and hold one for you as you wait in line to order. The food's simple and good, the chicken and steak both marinated and flavorful. I detect notes of lime in the latter; the blackened chicken just tastes blackened. There's a "golden" flaky finish to the tortillas suggesting a bit of butter; they proudly advertise "no lard," which definitely takes the flavor out of classic Mexican territory and into Tex-Mex range. The venue's legendary pepper bar boasts roughly sixteen sauces, with tiny paper cups for sampling, ranging in heat from "safe for everyone" to "a bit painful." I found the hottest of their sauces (the Endorphin Rush, Scorned Woman, and similar top-shelfers) fairly mild, but then, I found Quaker Steak and Lube's Atomic Challenge wings "a nice medium heat." Sane people seem to find the bar stocks a good range of heats for every taste, so you'll likely be happy with its variety. What I love about their pepper bar, though, isn't the heat range, but the flavor range. There are some really inventive hot sauces there, for folks not accustomed to such variety, including a peach sweet sauce, a habanero jelly, a honey-based sauce, and a smoky green "Lizard Spit" Cajun vinegar base that's quite nice. They rotate the sauces often, so don't expect to see the ones you had last time when you return -- favorites recur, but the assortment changes regularly. It's a loud venue, boisterous and popular with the college crowds, with a slightly more aggressive music mix than you'd expect -- don't expect to have any quiet conversations there, much as the food and wild decor might inspire them. Also, if you plan to experiment with sauces, be sure to wash your hands afterward -- one touch to the eye after handling some of those sauces will be a lesson bitterly learned. The food's warm, flavorful and generous. Ten bucks a head will feed almost anyone well, and if you split an order a nachos as well, it's a feast to rival the fern bars and pubs for a bit less cash, and the hot sauce bar's a conversation starter every time. Tijuana Flats may not stand out as an epic culinary juggernaut, but it doesn't need to -- it's Just Plain Good, a little adventurous in a safe and manageable way that won't put off your friends, and that's a fine thing all by itself. It's classic, dependable, good-tasting Tex-Mex fun. read more

You get your choice of hard or soft, flour or wheat tortilla, choice of chicken, beef, carnitas (pork), blackened chicken, or for $1 more, steak. Toppings include lettuce, tomato, onion, fresh jalapeno, olives & sour cream. The sauce bar rocks! May I suggest the Georgia Peach and sweet onion or Jason's Mom Hot Sauce. DO NOT BOTHER!!!!!! This place is a joke. If you want dog food /taco bell type meat in your buritto or chimi then come on in. I ordered twice for take out and both times order was messed up. The manager Ray attitude sucks he blamed me as the customer for the order being wrong??? Learn some customer service and cook real mexican/tex-mex food and maybe you will be worth trying again but I doubt it. As for now Id rather drive to Orlando and go to Chuys.
