My husband has been a huge fan of Moe's, but after this trip (6 pm on a Saturday) he's converted. My 8 year old got a taco from the kids menu, I got a no-rito rice bowl which had a crazy amount of food, my 14 year old loved her chimichanga with queso sauce, and husband got the burrito with turkey chorizo with extra meat. They asked us upon entering if it was our first time, gave us free chips and salsa, and explained the process. They came over several times to ask how everything was, and cleaned up plates, as well as gave me a cover to take home food, and a bag for extra chips. Will definitely be coming back! read more

My family and I have visited Tijuana Flats many times since the Lakeland location opened in (I think) 2009. The staff is always friendly, the service is always fast, and the food is great while being affordable. And don't forget the tasty hot sauces!! I hope TF is here to stay! read more

How the hell are you a Tex Mex restaurant and not know its Cinco de Mayo! This place is a disaster. All three entrees arrived separately 20 minutes apart. They were a cheese and chicken quesadilla and a 2 chicken tacos with cheese only. My blackbean burrito was stone cold by the time I was able to eat it. Looking around there may be people having a worse experience than us. I would say avoid it an go to Chipotle but that may kill you. Stay Home or step up to Abuelas. Hell Taco Bell would have been better than this. Probably better service as well. Stay home and avoid the heartburn and I don't mean from the food. I went here for the first (and only) time a few weeks ago. It was a slow night I guess, as I went during dinner time during the week. My food took 10 minutes or so to come out (I got a quesadilla), so I spent my time looking at the (oddly) named sauces and picking a few to take home with me. When I got home the food was, alright. I love Tijuana Flats. My first experience at Flats was on their VIP night prior to officially opening. They offered all you can eat/drink beer, wine and food in exchange for a $10 donation to the Boys and Girls Club (or something similar). I expected them to have 2 or 3 flavors of draft beer and maybe a bottle or two of wine. You can imagine my surprise when they offered many flavors of bottled beer and wine. The staff came to our table regularly offering up appetizer sized dishes from their menu. The service was top notch! I decided to give Flats another try when they weren't trying to impress their VIP crowd, so I went for lunch one afternoon. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and found them to be very yummy! The staff was very friendly and provided excellent customer service. Tijuana Flats offers 15 flavors of hot sauces - from mild to the extreme. I have found the "slap my ass and call me Sally" jalapeno sauce to be one of my favorites, but I also really like their onion/peach sauce. I know it sounds weird, but it's very tasty. The ordering process at Tijuana Flats was confusing at first, but the staff was waiting at the door to offer us assistance. If you're a first timer, you will get a menu at the door and get in line to order at the counter. Then, the wait staff will call out your name and bring the food to your table. Today, we had a gal bring us some chips and salsa to munch on while we waited for our food. Tijuana Flats offers tacos, nachos, chimis, burritos, etc...all of your typical Americanized Mexican foods. The prices are very reasonable for the quantity of food that you get. Two of us can have lunch for around $12 total. I would highly recommend Tijuana Flats to my friends and family. read more

I've lived in the south for all my life, with quite a bit of time deep in the heart o' Texas. And I've been lucky to engage in quite a bit of travel for work, which means that I've seen other American regions "interpret" some Texan staples, from Barbecue in Maine to Michigan's Tex-Mex to Chicken-Fried Steak in LA, the results are often, well, horrifying. ( That said, I'll take Maine Seafood and LA Chinese any day ) So, with trepidation, I thought I would give Florida Tex-Mex a try. Ordered a steak Tijuana burrito on wheat ( no corn tortilla options, which is an instant strike against authentic ), with everything to go. Service was quick, efficient and good. There didn't appear to be any to go containers for the salsa/sauce bar, so I skipped that ( Twenty years ago, I would have done some serious damage to it. Now, however, the heat gets its revenge rather easily ). There didn't appear to be anything along the lines of a Pico or a Tomatillo salsa, either. Got home, opened the container. First concern, no foil wrapper around the burrito. Might be OK for the smaller ones, but the larger burritos need a little extra support while eating. The chips were thick and chewy, which might appeal to some but didn't do it for me. First bite revealed the burrito wasn't wrapped correctly. Tried to fix it, but still experienced a total structural failure. Thank goodness for the included knife and fork. Steak was good, veggies were fresh. Two lonely Jalapeno slices imparted a wee bit of heat and the black bean count was pretty low. Cheese appeared melted to the tortilla, not the filling, which is odd and, in my mind, not particularly desirable. So, overall, there you go. I'll put it in the same category as Taco Bell, definitely not Tex-Mex, absolutely not Mexican. Some new generic hybrid. A star for the staff, who was good. And that's about it. Maybe the point is to set yourself on fire with the sauces, I dunno. Maybe, based on the other reviews, I hit them on a bad day. My advice? Buy some foil to wrap around the burrito, work on the filling proportions and seriously consider swapping out those chips. And maybe fly out to Texas, find a FreeBirds, and see how its done. read more

There are about 60 Tijuana Flats around the country, designed by a college kid after his college bars days. Painted loud and contemporary, it's pretty popular with the locals. On my visit it was crowded and confusing. I was seated by a blonde (waitress) with no eye contact and no "lips", just pointed and walked off. After waiting an extra-ordinarily long time (and having not read the other reviewers tip) a manager-type came over and explained ordering at the counter where 3 more employees with little to do hung out. The manager checked on me for drink refills about 8 times during the meal. it bugged me that other waitress-type employees (about 4 of them) played and hid in the back rather than keeping up with busing tables, etc. Bad reflection on a potentially cool restaurant. Extensive food options. I decided to try their small powerlite wholewheat bean burrito, aka fat free sour cream and low fat cheese. It was still a hefty sandwich, though it weighed in at less than 500 calories with 10 chips on the side. It was a decent meal. They have lots of sauces to try, the 3 lightly spicy ones I chose were all very good. One note, they use raw jalapenos, not pickled. This makes them hotter and for folks like me, highly allergic to the oils on the skin. They are in the salsa that comes with the chips, many of the hot sauces, and in the burritos if you don't remember to say leave out. The employees kept me informed but I probably can't make this a regular stop due to this little anaphylaxis thing. 1/2/14 revisit. Greeted with a menu while still in the standing position near the door. You go to the counter order so I guess they're trying to save you time. I asked the difference in sizes of the 3 burritos with cutesy names and was told "small, medium, large". Ummmm I gathered that, but how small is small and how large is large. duh. I ordered the medium--bean burrito. It had very little beans and a whole lotta rice. I didn't taste the tomato, lettuce, onion in it at all. Very dry but I used the salsa from the chips. No support/explanations on the overwhelming sauce bar (other than smiley faces and straight faces. Didn't keep my drink filled and there were only 3 tables in use. This was a $10 lunch. I took a star for the too many "lacks". Chipotle is much much better and healthier tasting. read more

Visited for the first time and I am eager to return.The manager offered excellent service. It is nicely decorated with a festive theme. The staff is very friendly and fun and there's good music and TV to keep you entertained. I had the Chimichanga with black beans and rice, it was the best presentation on a plate I've seen in a while and it was very delicious. There is a wide selection of sauces and the two I had was really tasty. I must give compliment where it is due. We were there 2 weeks ago, Saturday night at 5:30. There were 2 other customers. The place was filthy. The girl that took our order was friendly enough, but the girl sitting next to her between the registers looked up, gave us a dead stare, then went back to doing nothing. Our order was brought out to us. My wife's chicken tacos were COLD. We waited to have someone come us ask how to food was, or to even see a server come out from the kitchen. Nope! My wife took her plate back into the kitchen, asked them to heat it up. In the meantime, I ate my chips & started on my burrito. You guessed it, cold as ice in the middle. When they finally brought her tacos out, I asked them to heat up mine. They took forever to bring it back out. No asking about refills on drinks, just handed me my tray and disappeared again. This has happened twice in the last 3 months. Cross this off of our list of places to go. It's a shame, we've been going here for years. I go to this Tijuana Flats about once a week. This location has the friendliest staff and the food the majority of the time comes out fantastic. My favorite meal is the regular sized beef and refried bean burrito with no jalepenos on a wheat tortilla with a side of queso...delicious! Also try Taco Tuesdays- a great deal for $5!
