We are complete beginners and followed the advice of other reviewers to buy at this shop. We had excellent personalized service from Dennis who didn't try to oversell us, and set us up with exactly what we needed to get started. He took the time to show us how to put everything together correctly and made sure we knew how to cast properly before we left. He also recommended the best nearby spots to fish for salmon this time of year. this place is great. as i was making my way down the oregon coast, noting the plethora of lakes, rivers, and creeks that surrounded me, i thought, my goodness, where are the bait and tackle shops?! surely someone else sees what i sees and wants to provide the terminal tackle to allow people like myself to partake in nature's wonders of fishing? and though Bay City lacked anything, Tillamook offered this gem via Yelp, and loving and trusting all things Yelp, i arrived here, a little curious about its location off of the main stretch and its lack of photos, though it had overwhelmingly positive (though limited) reviews. and so i came (who cares! the masses shout, on with the review). so i pulled in, a little wary of the uneven gravel, and uncertainly walked in, but within a few seconds was comforted with ... well, a mom and pop bait and tackle shop! fishing rods, reels, and terminal tackle lining up the walls with a live bait refrigerator in the back, and who but Marie herself of the famed Marie's Hot Shrimp Scent was there to greet me and shot me around. i explained to her that i was there, not for the prized Chinook salmon or other trophy giant fish, but for the humble rainbow trout in the local freshwaters, as that's what my modest ultralight rod and reel with 4 lb test were equipped for, and she quickly set me up with some hooks, nightcrawlers, a bobber, and her secret hot shrimp scent. for a small shop, she was incredibly friendly, and i say that knowing what it's like to be an outsider, a Californian, a Los Angelesean (angelenos we call ourselves), and yet i didn't get any of the scorn or eye-rolling that my kind often get, but a really genuine, warm, friendly, down-to-earth good intention to get me on the fish, which is what any novice out of towner fisher really wants. she also gave me some tips on local crabbing, but i had to tell her honestly that i wasn't looking for that at the moment (and wouldn't know what to do quite frankly with a crab if i caught it. where would i take it? where would i cook it? i'm driving to an airbnb in portland with only a mini fridge after all this). anyhoo so she set me up with stuff, we chit chatted some, she seemed genuinely interested in what i was doing there and what it was that i was setting out to do, and left me with her card, and i went where she told me to go, and did what she told me to do, and honestly, i was one of the only people on the water that day catching anything. i caught a half dozen trout and maybe i saw two other people catch one each, and someone walked over and said, "are you the one catching all the fish?!" and for once, i could proudly say that that was in fact me. there are no other words to describe this bait and tackle shop. it's the bait and tackle shop of your dreams, of your past, of folklore. i am torn between having people "discover" and potentially exploit and explode this tiny shop, and having it get the recognition it deserves, but i suppose i leave that to my fellow yelpers. please say hello to marie for me and pick up some of that famous shrimp scent that got me so many bites today at Mystery Lake. it is definitely worth your time. read more

Don't waste your time at those super stores, like Fred Meyer or a sporting goods store. Dennis is the best. He is a very knowledgeable local and has a good selection of fishing tackle, bait and supplies. We brought in our poles, he rigged them up for salmon, and then directed us to some good fishing spots. Try getting that kind of service at the big stores. To really get on his good side, bring cash! read more

Live Bait Vending Machine.... come on, you know you want to go just to see it for yourself. The best place to get the low-down on where the fish are on any given day. Can't get sand shrimp much fresher than here! But one reason I stop out there... even have made special trips out there for the sole purpose of getting more of Marie's HOT Shrimp Scent. Not sure how they made it but this stuff is killer good. The place is not big but the results are! read more

We needed crabbing equipment and the couple who owns this shop were AMAZING!! They were so sweet and helped me pick out a crab trap and even helped me attach rope to it! As I passed the outdoor equipment retailer making a right on the loop road, I had a moment of hesitation thinking that I was passing up a great resource. In my 30 years of fishing I haven't ever been more lucky than I was stumbling upon this bait shop. When I first walked in, there wasn't anyone in the shop. I wandered around for about ten minutes looking a photos and the equipment for sale. I could tell right away that this place was a gold mine and had specific gear for every type of fishing in the area. I was about to give up when I caught the attention of the owner cleaning some fish in the back. He seemed genuinely glad I had come and bright be into the shop. We talked for a few about the type of fishing I wanted to do and he got right to setting me up with everything I needed. I feel truly honored to have found this shop and I would recommend it to anyone who loves fishing and the outdoors. Just stop by and see for yourself!!! read more

Dennis has the best customer service around! He knows where the fish are biting and what to use. If you are new to fishing he will even draw a map and diagrams too on how to set up with your bait and lure. He won't sell you anything you don't need. Wish there were more Dennis-like people in the business world! read more

Dennis was so helpful! We went in early before low tide, and he set us up for clamming - shovel, gun, rake, buckets and he had bags as well. All of that for two days was just 30. He seemed to have a lot of other fishing paraphernalia and willing to rent most anything with a deposit (refunded when you return it). They take credit cards as well! We came here because we read a good review online, and Dennis and Marie did not disappoint us one bit! Coming from Colorado, we had no idea what we were doing, but really wanted to try crabbing. Dennis got us all the rental equipment we needed to get out on the water and Marie pulled out a map of where we needed to go. We decided we wanted to show how grateful we were by bringing them some beer when we brought back our rental equipment and I could not believe how nice the two of them are.
