I have taken all of my pets (cats and dogs) to Tillou since about 2005 or so. I even did a short internship there while I was in Vet. Tech. school. I loved Guy. He was the kindest man and took amazing care of my pets and made sure to keep his prices unbeatable. He even took geat care of cats, even though he was allergic to them. Lol. I really respected him and his practice. My pets were only seen by Brett a time or 2 up until Guy retired. Brett was always rude, condescending, and arrogant. He spoke to and treated his father and staff that way too. I witnessed it several times as an intern and also as a client. The majority of the staff is fantastic. After Guy retired and Brett took over, things definately changed. The facility updates are great, but Brett seems to have gotten even more arrogant and rude. Also, getting an appointment is like pulling teeth. I feel like they have some sort of kick back agreement with OP Vet Hospital because that's where they always refer me. That place costs a small fortune and Tillou knows it. He is most certainly NOT like his dad. And the new vet is not so friendly either. Which is a terrible shame. Although they are still fairly reasonable priced, their prices have increased. I'm saddened and disappointed at the decline of care and compassion at Tillou. I believe it may be time to move on. I'll be happy to pay a bit more if it means I and my pets will be treated with respect and dignity. I couldn't get my sick dog in to Tillou today, or for 2 weeks at least because the vets are on vacation and they are so booked out. Of course, the recetionist referred me to OP. No Thanks. I found another Vet that can see my girl today. Of all goes well, I will be switch vets for good. This posting my decision is not because I was turned away today. It is a result of too many bad experiences with this place than good. It has been well overdue. I cannot be loyal to a business that no longer treats their clients/patients like they are respected and cared for. read more

I brought one of our cats here today after my wife had made an appointment with them, but her elderly father had a medical emergency and was admitted to the hospital the evening before, and she wouldn't be able to make it to the vet, so she asked me to go. My wife had prepaid, but either didn't hear or forgot to mention to me their policy where new patients NEED their paperwork present or, and I'm quoting, "You will be asked to leave." The kicker for me is that I was then told that there was no chance for rescheduling, and that I was effectively banned from their office. When I asked if that meant forever, she, seemingly with satisfaction, said yes, forever. I don't fault my wife at all for this, but do blame their ridiculous policy for distressing my wife, distressing our cat, and for taking our money with literally no services rendered aside from a bad attitude. The woman who had initially led me back to a room (before I was asked to leave) was rude and looked fairly upset and sort of angry that I didn't have the records on me despite my telling her that I was only the messenger. I called back after I had returned home, and was able to speak with the owner, who said there was nothing he could do, which, seeing as to how he is the owner of a small facility, is patently untrue. I know I'm not special, but the lack of any wiggle room, even after saying I didn't care about a refund and just wanted a new appointment, especially given the circumstances, is telling. Oh, and there is literally NO mention of this policy anywhere on their website. I will never recommend this vet to anyone, and what is really said is that i had heard good things about them, and was excited to have a new vet I thought I could trust. I know now thatbpatient relationships are last on their list, if on it at all. read more

We have taken our pets here for a long time. They are always reasonably priced for any service. We just had our dog there to remove a growth and it was only $400. They are set up so you don't have to exit from main door. read more

Dr. Brett really needs to learn to speak to people with respect or compassion. He is very difficult , he gives the attitude that he is totally disinterested in your pet being there . His skills as a vet are not a question at all he definitely should learn to talk to people .. he really is a horrible representative of a business . The staff is kind and responsive. read more

During the aftermath of the snowstorm last week where there was still a driving advisory in Hamburg, my very sickly dog that can't use his rear legs had an issue walking up to the door, causing me to be MINUTES late for my appointment. After waiting, then being brought back to a room to be seen. I was advised that I was too late for anyone to see him as the dog was having a nervous breakdown and shaking. RIDICULOUS. Not sure what people are talking about. Tillou Veterinary Hospital is by far the best place I have taken my dogs. I originally dealt with Dr. Tillou Senior but have had nothing but great dealings with the Son Brett. They have always gotten me in immediately for problems and show nothing but care and compassion for me and my dogs. Would never consider anywhere else at the current time. Have been going to Tillou forever, loved his grandfather and father, yes Dr, Brett has a personality problem but I am not his patient my dog, Dog is. I just had my dog at the vet saw Dr. Caldwell very pleasant and professional, big change from Dr Brett. The care given to my Dog was fantastic. She explained everything I needed to do and Made sure She answered any questions if I did, she was very caring and so was the staff. I feel bad about not remembering their names but the whole staff is Fantastic. Dr, Brett takes some getting used to I said something to him first time I took my dog, after that no problem. Took my almost 15 year old Weimaraner to see Dr. Brett Tillou, thinking I may be losing my friend, but surprisingly came away with a positive outcome. Dr. Tillou was very informative and thorough. He always answers any questions and his staff is conscientious and friendly. His practice is affordable and available every day. Ever since the old man Tillou retired this place is nothing that a commercial revolving door with no empathy and sympathy for a sick dog whatsoever! Took my dog in because her abdomen was swollen and not eating. Dr. Tillou ordered x rays and a splenic mass was found. Was told that could be hemangio sarcoma which is a very aggressive cancer. Dr. Tillou said we could take her to Orchard Park Animal hospital to have a scan done to see if it spread. It had not but was recommended to euthanize because during surgery these masses can rupture. Dr. Tillou offered to remove mass with the understanding he is not a hospital and does not have blood products. I took her to another animal hospital with the same recommendation of putting her down. Nothing is worse than being told they can do a surgery but will be 5-6 thousand dollars. And to pay that and she may not survive. Dr. Tillou offered again surgery at a quarter of price with the understanding he has no blood products. I took a gamble because everyone was saying mass could rupture at any point. He performed surgery with understanding if it spread he would call me DURING surgery to make my decision. She made it through the surgery without rupturing! I am so impressed with his skill of this surgery! HE called me constantly to update me then to check on her at home. He accurately called it the it didn't look like hemangio sarcoma. It was a different type. My dog came home and was acting like a 2 year old puppy. Sadly while waiting for special stains to find out the exact type of cancer she had developed more tumors throughout her body. Some of them ruptured and we had to euthanize our baby. Dr. Tillou gave us the gift of another month with her and it was the best month of her life. My family and I will be forever grateful to him and his staff for that gift. read more

They have always taken the best care of my dogs and I never had any unnecessary procedures or medications pushed on me. Jess sees Dr. Caldwell and absolutely loves her. Dr. Caldwell takes the time to listen and always addresses my concerns making sure I leave feeling fully comfortable. I trust my pets health with them 100%. I have taken my Aussie there and now take my Pomeranian to Tillou's. My experiences have been great. They did surgery on my Aussie for a growth and got him in quickly, worked with an outside source for funding with me (Red Rover) and everything went very well. Recently had the Pomeranian who is older and was cryptorchid neutered and it went great. The dog is doing well...didn't even require stitches. Their fees are less than many other vets. They have been very caring and willing to listen and to explain. I have been very pleased with their services. read more

The prices here are cheaper than some vets however keep in mind, you get what you pay for. It's a father and son operation. The father is fine. Knowledgable and easy to deal with. The son has an extreme condescending attitude that is prevalent in every office visit. I also believe he acts this way because he doesn't possess the knowledge that he purports. I have a few speciality breed cats as pets. Among them are a Munchkin and a Manx. Body shapes are completely different and the Manx is missing a tail. They are a year apart in age but both small in stature. I once took them in together for shots and Brett (son vet) asked if they were litter mates??? I recently took my Munchkin back because he had an ingrown claw. Brett listed him as a domestic shorthair. The breed mix up doesn't offend me however as a vet I believe you should be aware of the cat (s) you are working with. The reason for my concern is that a specialty breed - to my understanding working with info from a friend who was a vet for years however recently passed away - cannot be transfused by a common cat should blood be needed. I don't know if this is the case but I believe that a vet, as a doctor, should read previous medical records to ascertain basic info. I called 2 days ago to set up an appointment for my Corgi who is shaking her head and scratching at her ears. Ear infection is what I suspect. Receptionist asked if I attempted to check and clean her ears because they request that you do this before setting up an appointment.While I do clean my cat ears I have never had any reason to check the dogs and I wouldn't know what I am looking at or what to do that is safe and beneficial for the dog. I just called another vet...and maybe you should too. read more

I cannot speak highly enough about the drs and staff here. From the initial phone call (that something is wrong with our puppy) to our visit with the doctor, everything is great. They are sooo accommodating and efficient, and the doctors are both so courteous, concerned, and friendly that I'm so glad our pup goes here. my family has been going to Tillou as a vet since I had my first dog at 10...even before that. Guy Tillou is a wonderful, kind man and a very good doctor. His son Brett is only a shadow of his dad. Guy retired 2 or 3 years ago and the place has gone done hill since. making appointments was a joke, i got turned away 2 or 3 times for emergent visits with 2 of my dogs...luckily I was taken else where, and today Brett was rude, arrogant and talked down to me. I realize I am not a vet, but i am a mother and i know when my babies aren't feeling well. I will never go back there again....and i have dozens of family and friends that left or are leaving and going else where. Brett's attitude certainly trickles down to his staff too. I cannot say enough good about Tillou Veterinary Hospital!!! We have been taking our fur kids there since 1978, when the vet was the father/grandfather to the two current vets. Over the years, my husband and I have had MANY fur kids....we always have three dogs at a time....and we used to have a cat. They have always received such caring, compassionate, professional, and proper care at Tillou Veterinary Hospital. We get the appointment times we need for our schedule for regular visits ~~ and this practice has always accommodated us VERY QUICKLY in the event of an emergency. In addition, my husband and I have also received very compassionate "emotional " care there, especially at times when we have had to say "bye for now" to one of our fur kids. Our pets are family ~~ they really mean everything to us ~~ and that is understood by Tillou Veterinary Hospital staff. Our fur kids are recognized there as our family, and that is VERY important to us. We most always see Dr. Guy Tillou ~~ I do not have words to praise his work and his ethic and his knowledge and his compassion and his humor enough!!! He is a true "legend" ~~ and my husband and I appreciate him more than we can convey!!! We have seen Dr. Brett Tillou once or twice, and he seems very knowledgeable and helpful as well. My husband and I are VERY HAPPY with this practice. We give it five shining stars ~~ and the highest praise we can!!! read more

I've been taking my pets to Dr Tillou since I was a kid. I'm sorry to say that I'd rather pay more money than have to deal with the sons attitude. I would enjoy taking my pets in and having a conversation with the dad and deciding the best course of action for our pets. The son however will give you an attitude and even snotty comments if you don't agree with his assessment and course of action. I have been taking my pets to this practice for many years. The father was in the practice and the son joined him. When I had a choice I would make my appointments with the father. The father has since retired and I have been forced to see the son. I have been there 4 times and the son has been rude, condescending, and down right dis- respectful to me 3 of those times. You should never pay money to be treated poorly and not given the information you request. I was flat out told "I've been doing this for a long time. I know what I'm doing," when I asked about the anesthesia being used on my extra large breed dog. There was other conversations where I was shut down completely and treated like I was stupid. I left that office completely upset and humiliated. I have left the practice. read more

First of all let me state that these are not bad guys, and their skills are top notch. I've been going there for decades with every animal I've had. I'd be rich if it wasn't for my animals. But never again! I came home to a sick Corgi, with a uterus infection just as Guy Jr. had previously stated would happen. If I didn't breed her or spade her she would have problems. They stated I couldn't get into see the vet until Thursday, to go to the Orchard Park Vet Hospital. This was after putting me on hold twice .... so obviously the powers that be at the Vet Hospital were involved. Maybe I'm just as guilty and a bad pet mommie for not having my animals be seen more regularly and this is their way of punishing me. Called the village vet who was moving, then called Sunset Vet and ended up getting her spayed there. End result she's a happy dog. But be advised, you shouldn't be able to pick and choose which customers you want to see. And I certainly will never return with any of my 4 animals and I won't advise my friends to go there either when they let you down when in a crisis. read more

After 25 years we have decided to move to another vet. The last 2 years have been a roller coaster of ups and downs with them. We did not care for how the new female doctor treated us when we had to euthanize our oldest dog so we requested only appointments with Dr. Tillou after that. Maybe this is where things started going wrong for us. There are times Dr. Tillou can be spot on, caring, and polite; other times he's as others have described in their reviews. Not sure if it's stress or just a busy day when this happens but we have had as many as 7 dogs at one time coming to their practice so they know us and know we know our dogs. When we say there is something wrong, there is. There were a few small issues that were annoying but we brushed off because we trusted him, then there was a phone conversation when he hung up on me (I was taking too long and he was in a hurry), then one of our dogs almost died because of a misdiagnosis and refusal to do a simple, cheap xray. We've always valued their belief to not over test and do unnecessary procedures but this was taking it too far. What would have been a $50 xray and 10 minutes of his time turned into hundreds of dollars in diagnosis fees at another vet and then emergency surgery at Orchard Park hospital. I have used Tillou for several years. There have been several times I have been somewhat unhappy with them, but they were reasonably priced and close to home so I continued to go there. NOT anymore!! I called for an emergency appt. for my cat, it was only around 10:30 in the morning. I told them, my cat was crying in pain, looked as if he was having trouble walking, every time we tried to touch him, he was growling and hissing. This is a very laid back and gentle cat, so I knew there was something seriously wrong. They refused to see us that day, told me they were booked! They couldn't fit me in until the next morning at 10:30!! What kind of vet refuses to see an animal in pain. Is there precious schedule more important? I found another awesome vet, that would see him that day. Turns out that he had bladder stones and had to be sedated them cathed and flushed. Thankfully no surgery! Tillou would have had us wait another 24 hr., a cat in pain that was unable to urinate! Who knows how bad it would have gotten, if we had waited?? Reasonable price, is not worth the horrible service!! read more

I dealt with Tillou veterinary for several years. When it was just the Dad (Guy) it was a mostly pleasant experience. Over the last few years his son (Brett) became the main vet and Dad just works here and there. Let me tell you, the experiences I've had with Brett are less than commendable. He is rude, pompous and I wonder if he actually likes animals. I helped out a friend by taking her mixed breed dog to Tillou when her delivery of her pups stalled. Brett referred to the pups as "useless dogs" as they were the product of an "irresponsible pet owner". I explained I did not appreciate this attitude as these puppies would be cared for and this was NOT my dog, I was helping out a friend who was at work. When we went back later to pick up the pups and Mom, Brett stuck a deceased puppy in my friends sons face and said "this is what happens when pet owners are irresponsible, he has a cleft palate, thankfully he didn't survive". Obviously, we never went back there. I recently had a very ill dog of my own that had to be euthanized. It was in the evening and my vet was closed. Out of desperation I called Tillou so my dog did not have to suffer another night. I explained I am a former client but can't stand to watch my dog suffer through the night, would they be able to help me out. I was told by the receptionist the first appointment they had was in two weeks. I was a faithful client there for more than 15 years and this is the thanks I get. I want to spread the word it is not the same there anymore. There are several other vets in the neighborhood, go somewhere else. read more

I scheduled an appointment for here and showed up 5 minutes after the scheduled appointment. The receptionist told me that my appointment was at 3:20 when i was told on the phone 3:30! She was very rude and nasty with me and told me I was very late and I would have to reschedule,when in fact we were only 5 minutes late. Also my poor puppy has been sick for weeks and she didn't seem to care about what I had to say! Absolutely terrible service and rude customer service by the receptionist! I never had a bad thing to say about Tillou until my cat was dying and he was SO insensitive leading up to and after my cat had to be put 'to sleep'. This was a year ago so I'm not writing this out of anger, just sadness. And the things he said to me to this day haunt me. Growing up EVERYBODY that I knew took their pets to Dr. Tillou. When I got my own dogs I started to take them there as well. The staff is super friendly and both the father and son are amazing. I am not sure why others complain about the son. Everytime that I have seen him he has been very friendly,knowledgeable and kind to my dog. We were in last spring and saw him, when he did blood work he said he would not worry me with all the things and treatment options that we COULD be facing, as he didnt know yet. He called me a day early to inform me that it was just a UTI. I was so grateful that while he was honest he didnt give me extra anxiety. Most recently we saw the father for my sick dog and he was very compassionate as well. He got her scheduled for a mon surgery (as it was a weekend) and made her a priority. Unfortunately my dog had more problems that the surgery couldnt fix. But again he was honest and didnt do the full surgery and let me bring her home. Im quite sure another vet would have took my money for full procedure then told me everything else wrong. This vet office is very honest, reasonably priced and compassionate. When the time comes to let my girl go, I will take her there. When were ready for a new dog well go there. They truly are the best! read more

I have been taking my pets to Dr Tillou for over 30 years. I have had both cats & dogs throughout the years and have always been please with the Tillou Vet Clinic. Prices are great, convenient hours, scheduling is always accommodating, accurate diagnosis and treated with respect. I love the fact that both father and son take the time to explain procedures and the reasoning behind diagnosis. They both are open to questions and have always treated myself and my animals with respect. I recently had a problem with a puppy and we saw Brett Tillou for treatment. I am happy to say that very was friendly, polite and even joked a bit like his father. People should remember that not everyone has a "warm and fuzzy" personality, sometimes it takes time to develop that skill of being a people person.
