After leaving the world of big corporate after 15 years, I have spent the past 2 months on a personal rebranding mission with the goal of putting a profile together that not only spoke of my experiences but better beings out my personality. My top priority was to have new headshots done that were more than just a "nice shot." I had a great intro chat with Tim to first learn about him- how he started, what motivates him in his work, and how the life adventure that he's been on since picking up a camera as a child. It was important for me to get a better idea of how he sees life through his lenses, both literally and figuratively. I then shared with him my goals and desires with my new headshots, and the message that I wanted to convey with the different looks and poses. I look a lot younger than I am, and often spend the first moments meeting someone by establishing my experience and seniority (41). He did a great job with different looks that conveyed confidence and authority without losing a bit of youthful, subtle, whimsical charm. I sent a Pinterest board his way of what I liked and he gave his opinions on why certain looks would or wouldn't work with me. I appreciated the direction... he is the pro, not me, and gave good direction to make sure we had the "nice shot" and "right message." His studio is great. Easy to find, inspiring and special place that helps get you in the zone. Music pumping (because we both wanted it) to bring life to the shoot. We worked with a certain pose and lighting, with and without my glasses, and stopped every few minutes for a quick look. Some ideas just didn't work and we both agreed, quickly discarded them, and steered ourselves to the right direction. I appreciated the confidence he had, but also the humility in acknowledging that a certain shot/look didn't work. I chose one shot for him to touch up, uploaded to LinkedIn, and was surprised how many hits I got just from the photo change from the typical boring corporate shot to something with more personality. I have 100+ shots from the shoot that I intend on using for personal branding material (website, speaker notes, bios). As I continue through this career transition, I look forward to working with him again on more environmental/in action shots. Lastly, working with Tim has inspired me to take my beginner DSLR camera and try to take my own hobby to the next level. What a great experience! I reached out to Tim after an unsatisfying experience with another company, and Tim and his crew couldn't have been more helpful, kind, and professional. His assistant, Nicole, stayed in constant contact with me -- even responding to e-mails after 10 pm! -- and made sure I had all the information I needed to arrive on-site, ready to go. And the site itself? Really cozy and un-intimidating. You'll love it. I told Tim up front that I don't enjoy having my picture taken, and he immediately put me at ease, having me sit down for a quick, casual conversation before the shoot, letting me know exactly what was going to happen, and telling me how everything worked. Tim will make you feel at your best the entire time, and he'll give you specific prompts and instructions on how to pose and where to look, so you're guaranteed to look great. And he'll shoot and shoot and shoot, letting you check your photos regularly to talk about what you like and don't like. He'll suggest different backgrounds or lighting, and it's completely up to you to decide what you think makes you look good. Unhappy with a backdrop? No problem. Lighting looks weird? He'll talk with you about that. All told, Tim goes out of his way to make the shoot about YOU and YOUR likes, not his -- but he'll guide you every step of the way. I had a blast, and (as I said) I HATE having my picture taken! One last thing: I'm a writer, and I rely not only on a great headshot, but I also need to ensure the photograph is cleared for usage in all formats (book jackets, author websites, publicity material, and so on). Unlike some studios, Tim's photos are cleared for your use immediately -- there are no additional charges to 'clear' your own image for use. (For those of us who have to deal with photo clearances, you'll know it's no small thing when I tell you this is a VERY. BIG. DEAL.) A really great experience, and really terrific photographer. I cannot sing Tim's praises enough. My teenage daughter needed acting headshots, and we went in knowing literally nothing about the process. After reviewing several photographers we decided on Tim based on the photos we saw and his reviews. We could not have been happier. Tim's warm and fun personality immediately made my daughter feel comfortable with process. Even from my initial inquiry we were guided through the process. Hair and Makeup with Carla was phenomenal, and Tim and Carla worked together the whole time to make sure my daughter was camera-ready. Most importantly the photos are literally strokes of genius, magic. Tim managed to bring something out of my daughter that is hard to catch--that glimmer in her eye, that confidence that is there but hides sometimes, that "I've got a secret." Honestly, we are blown away with the images. We went in putting full trust in Tim (and Carla) and I'm so glad we did. I can't thank him enough for giving our daughter a leg up in the next step of her budding acting career. We couldn't have made a better choice! I've been wanting to get professional head shots for a while now to step up my game, and when I crowd-sourced the NOVA subreddit I was pleasantly surprised to find Tim among the recommendations. I immediately filled out the form on his webpage to book an appointment, and his response was quick and courteous. He was able to work around my schedule and still make a prompt appointment. The photography experience itself was also great. I opted for the hair and make-up package and James, the stylist, was friendly and professional. I have a big head of curly hair and he was able to style it so that I kept the curls but looked professional, which is no mean feat, and he did it without overheating my hair or putting a lot of product in it. In fact, the customized blend of conditioner he did use made me want to buy some from him! The make-up was similarly great - understated but really flattering in photos. As for Tim, he was relaxed but professional, making sure I felt comfortable in front of the camera but always making me laugh so my smile was genuine. He let me see the photos as he took them so we could discuss what was and was not working. Though I trusted myself in his hands, it was nice to be a part of the decision making process. Once I paid Tim had my high quality photos to me in about 30 minutes. All around it was a great experience, definitely worth the money. I would be happy to be a repeat customer. read more

I was looking on and off at getting my head shots redone for the past year and kept coming back to Tim's name. The reviews don't lie. Scheduling was a breeze, and Tim and his team were great answering my questions in a timely fashion. Their read-ahead packet had some great advice, but my session was definitely tailored to me. When I arrived the day of the shoot, I first met James Cornwell of Cornwell Styling while Tim was setting up. James was a delight to work with and talk to. I only wish I could make myself look so good on a daily basis! Both Tim, James and I worked to pick out the best clothing options, backgrounds, etc, for the look I wanted to achieve. Obviously they had great insight, and I was happy to rely on their insights to get the best photos possible. Tim was great at giving direction which immediately translated into results, showing me what was working as we went along. Towards the end, Tim gave me a review of what he thought were some of the best photos, how the delivery and follow up process worked, and some thoughts on what photos I might want to use. Tim did a four image shoot for me for some online dating photos, and they are wonderful. I love them! They are just what I was looking for--fun, relaxed images with colorful, cool backgrounds that show off the real me. The shoot itself was surprisingly fun too. Tim and Carla, the hair stylist and makeup artist, were so supportive and efficient and kept the energy in such a good place the whole time. Tim was able to get so many great shots. He really delivers. Carla did a fantastic job with my hair and makeup. I am usually very low key that way, and she created a look that was surprisingly natural but made me look amazing. She has serious skills. The studio observes careful safety precautions regarding COVID. Both Tim and Carla wore masks the whole time and kept six feet away except for during hair styling and makeup application. My mask was on most of the time during both. Everything was extremely clean, and there was plenty of hand sanitizer. Suffice it to say that they take all precautions necessary to keep everyone safe. I definitely give him 5 stars or more! The whole experience was wonderful, and of course, the pictures came out are all wonderful! I'm really happy. He's not only a good photographer, but also good at making the atmosphere really easy and fun. He's very flexible, too. I brought over 10 clothes, and kept changing my mind on what to where, and he's OK with it. We tried different clothes, different background, and we both checked pics each time. It was really like "working together" to get the best shot. I felt I'm not the only one who wants the best shot but he also wanted me to be happy with the pictures. And he captured right shots! It's no wonder because I was enjoying the process with him (and almost had fun), so I look happy and nice in the pictures, instead of anxious, worrying if he's tired of me switching around poses and clothes, not feeling comfortable with him, etc. I ended up paying more because I liked more than 2 pics that was included but I'm very satisfied with no complaints! I was looking to do a photoshoot for my daughter who's interested in pursuing acting. I stumbled upon Tim Coburn Photography using a simple Google search. Wow! My daughter was anxious and a bit nervous since this was her first time doing anything like this. When we got there, his studio was easy to find, based on the instructions he provided. Tim's studio is so clean, creative, and have such a good energy when you walk in. We were greeted immediately with nothing but professional. He has such an amazing aura and personality! He gave my daughter great direction and was playful to help make her feel confident and comfortable. He gave recommendations along the way. The pictures came out amazing and it literally took us about 15-20mins tops!!! My daughter's and I just adore him!!! Tim and his team couldn't have been more amazing to work with. From the time I contacted them to setup an appointment to the end of the shoot it was a great experience. Ervin Green handled the booking for the shoot and sent me multiple options for dates and times. It was great to just be able to pick one and easily set it up. James Cornwell of Cornwell Styling did my hair and makeup and I've never felt more comfortable. We laughed and told stories while got me camera ready. Getting your picture taken can be intimidating and its more work than one would think. Tim is a true professional and an amazing photographer - in addition to being highly talented he also has the ability to make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and confident while he's shooting. It's rare to find a photographer that can do all of those things while making you pose in what feel like the strangest angles and smiling at the same time. I needed a new professional headshot and found Tim through a google search. It was a great experience start to finish--from scheduling the shot to payment to delivery of my image gallery. Tim was communicative, responsive, and efficient. I chose the package that includes hair and makeup and Carla, the makeup artist, did a great job of getting me camera-ready with a look that felt natural and polished. Tim took well over 300 shots with four outfit changes, helped me pair jewelry with each outfit, and made me feel completely at ease the whole time he was shooting. When I saw the photo gallery, which he had edited down to a manageable size (about 150 photos) before sending to me, I felt that together he and Carla had brought out the best possible version of me in the shoot. I recently hired Tim Coburn to conduct a headshot photo session for my real estate business. I initially chose Tim because I loved the work I saw in his portfolio and his website was precise, clean and easy to use showcasing him and his services nicely. I worked with Tim's assistant to set up my time and location and he was on time and charming! He made me feel very comfortable instantly explaining how the shoot would unfold and provided guidance on outfit choices and poses, etc. He took a lot of shots in order to capture the perfect 'me', and I am beyond happy with my results. I'm waiting on my retouched photos but even without retouching, these photos are amazing and I am so looking forward to promoting my business using them. As someone who HATES taking self portraits, I cannot tell you how great this experience was. Tim made me feel really relaxed, comfortable in my own skin, comfortable with my (awkward) smile, and the results were fantastic! As a Black man, it can be challenging to find a photographer who can capture the right lighting, the right clothing combination, and the right setting to accentuate the best features and ensure you are not washed out. The best part of the shoot was when Tim pointed out that my choice in clothing washed out my skin tone and was not the best look. HE WAS RIGHT! It was a great shoot, and the results are amazing. Absolutely great session with Tim for my daughter, who needed professional head shots for college and professional auditions. A very reasonable fee structure that offered professional hair and makeup options as well. Tim was engaged and very supportive during the shoot, putting everyone at ease and making it fun. He also made clothing and color recommendations in advance to maximize probability of a great photo. Carla, the hair and makeup artist, was outstanding and always nearby for adjustments and touch ups. They made a great team! (It tells you just how detailed he is!). The whole process couldn't have been easier or more fun. Hair and make-up were natural. They did a fantastic job styling me with my clothes and accessories... I am retiring from government and entering the private sector so getting a good professional photo was very important for me personally and professionally; at age 61 I wasn't exactly thrilled to have to sit for a "head shot." The best single word for my experience with Tim is (and I see this adjective also being used in other reviews here): "amazing." There are probably a thousand little ways that a portrait photograph can go wrong, from lighting to pose to clothing to facial expression. Tim knows all these things and knows how to get it right. Very positive experience all around. Used Tim for acting headshots as well as corporate. As a busy professional I don't have time for faulty inconsistent communication. Tim's assistant was prompt, helpful and happy to reschedule me without much notice. Where other photographers did not return email inquiries promptly or at all, I always heard back within 24-48 hours from Tim or his assistant. Tim is the only headshot photographer I work with. He did my first headshots in 2013 and my updated ones a couple of days ago. Tim and his team make the experience so much fun and so lighthearted which is great. His price for headshots has the option of including a hair/makeup artist for the price that some less quality professionals charge just for the photos! He sends a gallery of your best photos for you to choose from for retouching and you get to keep all of your best photos as well. He's organized, professional, and so much fun! I chose to use Tim based on so many positive reviews I read online about his professionalism and we loved his photo portfolio that was available on his website. This was our first time using a professional photographer and doing headshots for my son, which we plan to use in a modeling showcase in a couple of weeks. Tim was very professional and punctual, but also took his time making sure my son, who just turned 8, felt comfortable, had fun, and we got the perfect shot for my son's first professional headshots.
