Last Friday I was in Lexington, Va and my "Check Engine" light came on. I stopped by a (Ford) dealership to have the code checked on my Kia and was told what it was (#3 cylinder misfire) . After checking several automotive repair shops (all too busy to look at it) I came across TIMBER RIDGE AUTOMOTIVE. Marty and Kyle were literally angels that were put in the right place at the right time for our family. After losing our youngest child less then 3 weeks ago we had to travel from NJ to Louisiana for our oldest childs wedding. Only 5 hrs into our 18hr trip our car broke down and the local autozone recommended Timber ridge. With no rental cars anywhere and knowing it would take some time to fix the car, Kyle the mechanic volunteered to stay late to fix it and Marty went right away to retrieve the parts needed. They got us back on the road 5 hrs later. Thanks to them and their kindness we made it to the wedding. I recommend this company highly. An auxilliary radiator in my BMW cracked on the way back to New England. I was so lucky to find Timber Ridge. Owner Marty Strecker and his team are honest and competent. They got the part expressed to them and I was back on the road next day. Charges were fair and, if I ever break down again, I hope it is in Lexington, VA. You are in good hands with Timber Ridge Auto Center. I don't agree with the few beefs on Yelp about this company. We were in bad shape on the Interstate far from home, with a truck fifth wheel trailer and lights on the dash that tod us something that was badly wrong with the brakes. Timber Ridge was the first place we came upon, and that was our good fortune. Our truck is 15 years old, and it wasn't easy for Marty to get the parts needed. But he did; they arrived the following day. He set aside his other work to do instal the parts, and got us on our way. He also advised us not to drive away, and found a level spot on his property for us to set up our fifth wheel. He helped us connect to his water and electricity lines, so we were comfortable while we waited for the parts. I have a British accent uncommon in Southern Virginia, and it wasn't always easy for us to understand each other. Marty has somthing of a gruff manner, but underneath that is a heart of gold. Whatever you do avoid this shop like the plague. I was traveling through Lexington headed for Richmond when my truck broke down. Went to this shop at the recommendation of the local Sheriff's department. Marty, the shop's owner was helpful at first telling me he was going to get us taken care of and at a reasonable price. I found other means of transport to Richmond and left the car in his care. On Monday he diagnosed the problem as a rod bearing and said the entire engine needed to be replaced. I was not pleased but had no way to tell if he was correct. He first quoted me $7,000 of which $6,000 of this was a used engine with 150,000 miles on it. This struck me as fishy so I started checking around. Within 5 minutes I found an engine with 50,000 miles for $2,800. I called the local dealership for the make of my car and asked them the cost of installing this engine and they quoted me $1,600, bringing the grand total to $4,500. When I went back to "Marty" with this he said he usually didn't allow "outside parts" but in this case he would do me a favor but his labor cost went up so that the cost of the repair at his shop would be $6,500. (Not the kind of favor I need) I told him I was not comfortable with his business style and that I would have the vehicle towed. Suddenly, "Marty" informed me that he had been charging me $35 a day in vehicle storage. So I had to pay him $140.00 in order to get my vehicle back because I didn't feel like paying him $2,000 more dollars to fix my vehicle. This guy is a crook from the very beginning. What ever you do stay very far from Timber Ridge Auto Center. As a side note, I used this place because a Rockbridge County Sheriff recommended it. In his words, it was an "honest place". I would also take this into account whenever speaking to a Rockbridge County Sheriff. read more

Not surprising, but a previous review was very similar to my experience the first part of Oct 2016. I was also traveling thru the Lexington area when water pump "blew". Upon recommendation of a local businessman I had my van towed to the Timber Ridge Auto Center. The owner quoted me a price of $455 to replace the pump and get the van going. He said he could do it that afternoon, "unless" a bolt broke off while doing the replacement. In which case it would take a couple of days for the repair. Waited around for an hour before he got to the repair and lo and behold he broke off the first bolt he tried. At this point he stated it would take a couple of weeks to locate a timing chain cover to replace the one he would have to chisel off in order to effect the repair. He also stated that since I had driven it a few miles that the engine was probably shot and it would cost $4500 with labor to replace the engine. He said he could do the repair but it would probably be in vain. He said he would give me $200 salvage price for the van from which he would deduct $50 for his "labor" (took him less than 10 minutes to screw things up). Since I was due in NC that night I rented a minivan and continued the trip. I stopped on the way back and elected to take the salvage price. I had checked with different "car haulers" and it was going to be cost prohibitive to have it towed home to Indiana. As far as the difficulty of finding a replacement timing chain cover it took a whole 30 seconds to find one on Amazon which could be delivered in two days. So unless you just want to give your vehicle to this guy abandon it along the roadside and let the state tow and sell it. read more
