And if you've ever been camping, you know…read morethat tiny stores out in the middle of nowehere are salvation in the form of first aid supplies, food, ice, firewood, and coffee to go. So then add a small diner. And gas pumps. And a bar. And a few pool tables. And three of the nicest, most welcoming men working there, at least two of whom also act as area emergency fire and rescue workers. We didn't eat at the diner, didn't buy gas or firewood, didn't require emergency fire or medical attention. We absolutely would have drank at the bar had we known about it the night before. Lesson learned.

In the last year it has had some significant upgrades and revamp in both structure and STAFF! From the kitchen, store, bar and camper/cruiser hook-up, upgrades are a weekly thing now. Biscuits and Gravy, Taco Tuesday, Biscuits and Gravy, Earl Special, Biscuits and Gravy it's all good. You can tell a place is a hit when the parking lot is full. They are always adding dishes and items, open to input!!! Full bar, music, pool table, big screen T.V.'s outside area, good selection of beers, bottle and on tap and very good Bloody Marys! Everytime I go in, more items on the stocked shelves. A must stop place for the lake, or day rides on your motorcycle or hot rod. Oh and they have gasoline!

Issuing a rare 5 stars here, but The Beehive is truly special…read more On our low-stimulus, off-the-grid vacation, a trip down from the mountain had us stop in for a late lunch/early dinner right at 4pm. We couldn't have prepared for the quality, and memorable nature of the meal we were served. Cannot recommend this enough for readers. Arrival and Seating: First, the welcome was warm and the service attentive--even at the start of the shift with a lightly-staffed crew. We were greeted in a warm manner by a fellow wearing a SF Giants cap (always a good sign), and invited to choose our table. We sat indoors on a warm day (it was about 95ºF) window-side, and enjoys wicker and bee-themed decor. The chairs had a relaxed shape that had me slouching (in comfort) immediately. Drinks: As I was driving, my partner ordered to his palate--which included two mezcal drinks. The first was the Tropical Storm, which had a great balance of passionfruit, pineapple and lime against a well chosen mezcal--smoky, but not acrid as can sometimes burden the spirit. The second bevvy was the She Devil and was a spirit-forward drink combining smoky mezcal and Xila with herbaceous Strega and Aperol (or Amaro in course case), balanced against lime. All delicious, as I confirmed with poison-tester sips. Tapas: We compared the tuna; on the Smoky Ahi Tuna, the flavor of mezcal was incredibly unique; on the Chicharrón de Aton, the texture of the fried tuna was nice and chewy, along with a spicy Fresno chili garnish. Entrees: My partner had the burger, which was juicy and served evenly cooked for medium--which we found desirable. An unlikely star on the plate, however, was the papayas braves substituted as a side. Their sweet berry glaze (blackberry?) made them almost like candy, and was perfectly balanced with a chèvre aioli. I went with the Chicken Poblano Pasta (never had fettuccine with corn sauce, I thought), and whoo boy was I in for a treat. The sauce was verdant on account of the poblano pepper, which lent a great flavor. Balanced against it was the corn, which was both grounding and provided a pesto-like texture. It was a hearty proportion with the large grilled chicken breast, but we came hungry and I left no crumbs. Last Thoughts This modest little restaurant in a modest little Northern California town was so good it became a memorable experience in itself on our modest little vacation. We left content (and full), and feeling good. I hope you have a chance to stop in, and leave feeling the same.
