Our heater/air conditioning unit (5 ton) broke down after 15 years. We called the company that installed the original unit for a quote (Gallagher's). We appreciated the quick response and a representative came out to our home (2300 sq. ft. Home) the very next day. After checking out our unit and crunching numbers (not really) we got the startling news of over $22,000. To say the least we were in shock and were just so unaware and unprepared to see these numbers. Our son who lives in Santa Rosa told us that those numbers were out of whack and told us to call Timberline Heating for a 2nd opinion. We did! They were here the very next day and went through everything once again. Timberline's quote was more than 50% less than Gallagher's for the same exact 5 ton Carrier Unit. Wow! Five days later we once again had heat and the much needed air conditioning for our Redding weather. The men who installed our unit were very informative, very conscious of keeping everything cleaned up and kept us informed regarding use, new rules for fire/smoke/carbon monoxide detectors. One more point please, the company representative we spoke with via telephone (Lexus) was so pleasant to deal with and offered to send several temporary floor heaters out to us for comfort before the new installation. After 30 years of operation they updated the system with a totally new unit. I was very impressed with the efficiency, cost and coordination of the process. The initial estimate came within days of the site inspection. It was well within my expectations and budget, and the original rough order of magnitude quoted on site. Scheduling installation was tailored to our needs. Actual installation was essentially way under a single work day, the follow up operational inspection happened the same day, and air balance testing the following day. The test report was available a few days later, which allowed final Redding building Dept inspection to be scheduled. The whole install /inspection process took only 8 working days. when our air conditioner went out during the hottest time of year, we called several A/C companies only to find that they all were scheduled out for 5 to 10 days! We called Timberline, the girl on the phone was very polite and helpful. Timberline also was scheduled out several days. The girl told us that sometimes their technicians will have an opening and would try to fit us into their schedule. later that same day, we received a call from timberline's technician Shon, who told us he would be able to come out after 5:00 which he told us normally would be an after hours charge, but since everyone is having extended days do to the extreme hot spell they would not charge extra for service. The technician stayed with my unit until it was obvious that it needed to be replaced. there was no diagnoses until they were sure beyond a reasonable doubt. The furnace went out and with temps in the 20's they had someone out meeting my requested schedule. They accommodated me, kept me informed throughout the day and the repair process.
