Walking into San Simón felt like stepping into some funky speakeasy hidden in plain sight. Dark lighting, moody atmosphere, David Bowie playing in the background, wild artwork on the walls that makes you stop and stare for a second. Just a great vibe all around. The kind of place where you sit down and immediately relax into the evening. The cocktails were excellent. Not overdone, not syrupy, just really balanced and well made. One of our favorites was the "Some Positive Feedback," which came with this sugar rim that looked awesome and added just enough sweetness without overpowering the drink. Bright citrus flavor, refreshing, smooth, and dangerously easy to drink. Then we asked the bartender if they could just make us something off the cuff. We said vodka, lemon and lime forward, not too sweet, maybe a little spice. They absolutely nailed it. Crisp, refreshing, layered citrus flavor with just enough heat on the back end to keep it interesting. Honestly one of those cocktails where everybody at the table takes a sip and immediately goes, "Oh wow." As a bourbon guy, I was also pleasantly surprised with the whiskey selection. The bartender recommended Stafford's Reserve, an Oregon bourbon, and I am glad I listened. Smooth, approachable, a little sweet up front with some spice on the finish. Easy sipping bourbon that fit the whole vibe of the place perfectly. What really made the night though was the staff. Everybody was friendly in that genuine way where you feel welcomed instead of "served." By the end of the night it honestly felt like we had been there before, even though it was our first visit. The outdoor setup deserves some love too. Bend cooled down at night, but the fire pits and heaters kept everything comfortable. We could have easily stayed another couple hours just hanging out. Pricing felt fair for the quality of drinks and atmosphere. This is not a dive bar pretending to be fancy. It is a genuinely cool cocktail spot that knows exactly what it is. If you are in Bend and enjoy craft cocktails, bourbon, cool music, quirky atmosphere, and places with personality, go find San Simón. Half the fun is finding it tucked down the alley in the first place.

It doesn't feel right to me to pay so much for a simple shrimp skewer. I've ordered that before, but it's just not worth the cost. I just feel like the menu needs a little more depth. More veggies and more exciting things for those of us who don't love meat.

We have been going to Timbers for over 15 years. A few months ago my wife and I went into Timber's East on a Sunday night after we went to dinner with friends. At the end of the evening my wife was paying the bill and I went outside to wait for her and decide if I should move my truck if we were going to leave it overnight As I was standing next to the door, seeing if an Uber was available, I was approached by a kid that seemed high on drugs he was jumping up and down and asked me if that was my truck? I said yes and He told me I better not go near the truck. I told him to mind his own business. My wife had a coat and other things she wanted to get so I started walking toward the truck. He kept repeating I better not go near it. That he had already called the cops and my truck was being impounded. I was confused and getting madder by the minute. He repeated his threats again when my wife walked out and saw the confrontation she went back inside. The guy kept running circles around me, taking pictures, videotaping me and kept saying over and over again I'm going to ruin you're life. I had no idea who he was and instead of getting in a fight I got in my truck and moved it out of the lot. I had no altercations with anyone and I had no idea who this creep was and thought maybe I was being confused with someone else? I remembered my wife didn't have her phone on her but I knew she was safe inside. I knew I couldn't go back or I'd get in a fight, and no Uber's were available so I walked home. My wife beat me home by a minute via a cab. I learned She ran back into get the manager who came back outside with her as I was pulling out of the parking lot. Apparently that crazy kid was calling the cops with his cell phone. The manager just turned around and looked at her and said you have to deal with him. My wife never saw the kid who was freaking out on me again until two cops pulled up. She showed the cops where the truck was and they called her a cab. The kid kept telling her that he was trying to protect her and she asked him multiples times from what with no response. She kept asking what we had done wrong also with no response. As my wife was getting into the cab the cops told her we could never return to the property. Now we were both dumbfounded. We weren't drunk, there were no altercations or concerns about our behavior throughout the night, so WTF? We later found out he was the bouncer! What? The manager served our group drinks! He knows me! He knew I wasn't drunk so what the heck? The alleged bouncer did not identify himself as such and didn't have security clothing on either. He never said he was concerned about my consumption. Just kept threatening me. By the way he acted I figured he was either a looney tune on too much Red Bull or on drugs! I would have never imagined he was the bouncer. So I spent a Hundred dollars on video poker plus a few drinks for myand get attacked by an employee and now I can never return? Nice customer service Timber's. We have not returned. We had hoped the manager who we have known for years would have made this right, but we have yet to hear from him. Beware if you go to Timber's for a drink!! You may not be allowed to drive home or leave without getting attacked. Just ran into some friends last night and they told me they had a very similar experience and they are no longer allowed into the bar again for the rest of their lives. Completely unbelievable. We have been going to that bar for years and years and have been friends with everyone there and for some odd reason there has been a turnabout and they are going after anyone they can. I have now witnessed undercover police in a gray SUV issitting in the parking lot watching people at Timbers. It seems to me it has even got worse. read more

i've been to this location a handful of times, both in the midday/morning time and evening. Never have I experienced good service here, usually the bartenders are too busy fraternizing with each other or with friends and ignoring the patrons waiting on them. The most recent time I was in there, I ordered a drink and some food to go... I sat there with my drink finished watching my food in the window for 22 minutes before one of them pulled away from their conversations with their friends to grab my to go order. There were 3 bartenders working at the time (approximately 7:30pm), so they were definitely not short staffed, yeah all of them were giggling and laughing and talking amongst themselves and their friends and ignoring most of the patrons sitting at the bar. The food was cold and much too salty to be edible... Which made this particular experience all that much worse. This place is a cesspool and unless you're looking to get into a fight with a redneck or a biker, or if you're looking for terrible service, I would avoid it all together. read more
